THIS. IS. SO. CUTE!!!! OMG. The romance is so heartbreakingly beautiful. In the beginning the MC dies because she fails to pass the thunder tribulation and leaves behind her little apprentice (ML). He goes mad and almost destroyed the demon realm, becoming the strongest demon cultivator in the process. After 100 years he is still searching for a way to get her soul back so he can bring her back to life. Everyone in the demon realm knows just how crazy and in love he is and countless storybooks have... more>> been written about their love (including some *cough* adult ones). They're so popular that they even reached the human/immortal realms.

The ML, after her death, became known as the #1 artifact refiner, creating puppets and machines that help to benefit everyone in the 3 realms with their cheap cost and easy-to-use functions. She is reincarnated 100 years later because she had a secret method of preserving the soul that her mother passed down to her. She remembers her little apprentice but thought he should be grown up by now and doing well since she left all her inheritance to him after her death. Little does she know that he's still desperately searching for a way to bring her back. He has always loved her but she has always been oblivious to it when they were together. It's so sad when you see how hard he tries to find ways to bring her back. Like using his blood in a formation to call her soul back but her soul has never entered the underworld so for 100 years he has never reached her and has countless scars on his arms and body, one for each time he's tried. My heart literally broke reading his side of the story.

I was so stressed when he met her new body (which was 6 years old at the time) and thought she was so familiar but had no proof. Luckily, this is a shorter novel so there's no Korean drama happening and the misunderstandings clear up after a few chapters. There are no rivals and things progress pretty quickly once she realizes her feelings. There is a time-skip so she can grow into an adult before they do things *cough*. I just adore this ML with all my heart. There's a lot of possessive MLs in CN novels with sad backstories, but this one just really resonates with me. He is cunning and cruel to everyone but her, but he can't bear to see her hurt even if it hurts him instead. He wants to keep her with him forever, but is willing to let her go because he always puts what she wants before himself. Even if he doesn't like everyone else, he will save people that the MC cares for because he cares for her. He is so sensible it hurts. But at the same time, he is so timid and shy and is absolutely the submissive one in the relationship. The MC is a strong character, with a very strong mental. Even though she was oblivious to his feelings in the beginning, once she realizes that she cannot let go of him then she is willing to do everything in order to be with him. It's just, SOOO SWEEEETT.

I give the romance a solid 10/10. The world building is also pretty good. The side characters are all pretty solid with a story background that you gradually learn. Not everyone is 100% good or 100% bad. Some people gradually become friends. There's a lot of technical terms and descriptions on cultivation methods that I gloss over (I was mainly hooked on the romance lol). The first part is mainly about her new life and him and her and the last part is mainly about fighting monsters and dealing with the main bad guy (the devil). The main bad guy is a pretty decent antagonist imo. But the novel ended very quickly, like I was so surprised I thought there should be more but nope, it just kinda ended in a few paragraphs and was kinda vague about it too. So honestly, everything was great up to that point. I wished it was a bit longer and there was a cleanup or settling down of characters but alas. At least the romance is still great. Overall I highly recommend reading/mtling it if you have a chance. <<less

Not the best of this author's works but not a bad read. I think my biggest issue with this story was the pacing. The story would drag during some parts I thought were rather mundane while glossing over parts that were more interesting. Also, unlike the synopsis I wouldn't call this a cyberpunk novel at all. The only cyberpunk element this novel has is the fact that people make enchanted tin puppets in this world.

The story works best when it focuses on the romance between the two leads because their... more>> interactions are very sweet. Though he's pretty cold with others, with the MC, the ML is easily shy, clingy, and super obedient. Plus, though they were strictly master and disciple in her previous life, it was nice to see that the MC had always cared for the ML and wanted to see her life together with him. The interactions between the MC and the other sect members and her family members were nice to see too and I wish there was more of it.

Finally, I felt like the ending was a bit rushed. I would realisitically rate this story at a 3.75 (decent but not a must read). It's a shame because I LOVED some of the author's other works, particularly, Let the Villain Go. I'm not sure about timeliness but I suspect that this story might have been written before LTVG because the writing feels less developed. <<less

Its a short cultivation and reincarnation novel from the author of "Dandere general and his Lord", "Let the villain go" and "Heroine saves a gentleman".

The 5 first chapters are already compelling and tbh, I've yet to read a book from them I didn't at least enjoy, so fingers' crossed!

Plus, her MCs are generally tough cookies and the MLs are always the sweetest souls which is a nice break from the usual.

So I'm impatiently waiting for the next chapters!

Oh, and did I mention that the translation is just lovely?
