“You can sleep on the floor then.”

“What?” His eyes said he didn’t want to.

Well, yeah. The floor was hard. Then it couldn’t be helped.

“I’ll just hold your hand and sleep. You trust me, right?”

But, how come the bed broke on my first night with my husband?

But her husband, whose monstrosity she prepared for, was way too normal.

However, he belonged to someone else.

Only recently stumbled across and binged this novel. Big fan so far. Plenty of political backdrop and mysterious past (not yet fully revealed as is appropriate). Very well translated.

I'd warn of a sleuth of pesky villainous side characters, who I would consider as almost getting to the annoying stage, BUT the author makes great use of humour which in many situations makes it all worth it. This is one of the enjoyable novels I'd actually laugh out loud from 😊👍

There also exist misunderstandings between the FL and ML. At chapter... more>> 177 we're about at the stage where we'll see whether this would become a longstanding annoyance..I mean I get both ML and FL ain't great at communications, but the extent to which easily clarify-able misunderstandings dictate the plot.. Let's see how this plays out🍀 (can see the novel fall to a 4 from a 5 if long-standing annoyance). <<less

Im going to complain but this is a good plot. I meant the plot had the potential to develop more. But the whole story--how the author uses that plot--nah.

The story is super slow, in terms of development of the plot. Author keep on using characters in repeat and unnecessarily. One character name rosalyn, was often used. At first I thought she was a servant or commoner cuz the way they acted but they started to call her lady. I know nobles looked down on people who are not noble. But... more>> FL is a princess and an actual biological daughter of the emperor. Nobles value etiquette and their faces but somehow this group of court ladies, dont. They ARE rude and just plain annoying. While FL just do nothing, ignore them and uses words to face slap them and then repeat. It's the same with the knights it was not enough that one of the knight got broken nose and was in prison. MISSING, after what he said to his princess. They do what they want and FL just fcking don't care. I get it that FL dont care (in literally everything except when its about her) but the author do same thing over and over again, in the same characters and in the same context. It become unnecessary and simply annoying. It was prolonged.

Secondly, idk if this is on the translator but the more I read about their 'quest' onto making the scalpel the more I thought that the blacksmith should be called craftsman. Blacksmith are known to do weapons and armors. They are rough, burly amd uses hammer and heat. Blacksmith dont have the meticulous details such as craftsman but this one employee can make small things like accessories, that scalpel and sht, like a craftsman.

Also may I add scalpel wasn't the biggest issue in surgery it was the exposure of our insides, our body would hav trauma. The invasive thing. Risk of sepsis. Our organs are not meant to be exposed. That's why surgery mainly done in a controlled room.

She should just invented antiseptic solutions, that would be a game changer. Just alcohol would be really helpful, but I guess its alrdy existed in that world. Or even gloves if she may. Cuz scalpel only do is to cut. Yes it was all true about the list she made how scalpel could help but really its minimal.

What I like the most is how FL doesn't care. But also what I hate the most cuz I like things to be done quickly. She was ab*sed multiple times by the people from her own kingdom but never really deal with them. She just let them shouts at her, scold her say things in front of her or behind her just cuz ShE DoEsn't cArE. Ugh.

Dont get me wrong this is good. Just manage ur expectations. I recommend reading this. Cuz if you dont like it then we suffer together. But just try this and then judge it. <<less

I think most of the negative reviews are because it starts off slow: protip, read the manga for the first half and pick up the novel from there.

The storyline is quite good! Thank you translator-nim for your hard work!!

I really like the humor and misunderstanding. Funny as hell...

I wanna cry. Aristine is just way too cool. Everything is too cute and I couldn't help but puff my cheeks out of happiness. Aside from an infuriating extra bit*h who is too delusional, every people in Irugo are pretty good and warm. Well.. This is a treasure for me and I can say it is also one of the best romance novels that I already finished reading (especially since I'm the type that can't handle dark misunderstandings in a relationship). Instead, misunderstandings in here are pretty light, cute and... more>> funny. Please do try and don't hesitate to fall in love with Aristine 😊 (she's really such a lovable person). <<less

its interesting how she was able to learn so much just from her ability alone, but im really thankful for that. Because of her ability she was able to get through the schemes of the other people which dont like her. Im also getting bad vibes from the blue hair, I dont care if her brother died as a collateral but atleast dont use him to get the people to blindly follow you because of pity

It was ok, kind of generic. But towards the end It draaaags so much so unnecessarily, the translator is a rockstar but I just could not stand all the cringe, it all comes down to 'oh she is so pretty, and so smart, and the best and everyone wants to monopolise her attention' it gets boring and repetitive pretty easily. For me the story ends when they get the HE, anything after that I don't think it's worth reading.

this novel was not bad, like most novels, many things are predictable,
Spoiler

how aristine is the missing childhood friend haha

. Overall the pacing is incredibly incredibly slow, and the novel is supposed to end at 183 chapters but I guess the translator is changing the pace.

there's a manhwa out for this now, but I really can't stand average art so I prefer the novel haha, pacing is like 4x faster though

would recommend if you have nothing better to read lolol

Honestly, this novel is pretty mid. The romance is super slow... currently, the ML has recently realized his feelings, and the MC couldn't care less about him. It has been 200 chapters for god's sake. Alas, the 'business' and 'money' related aspect of this novel is not that interesting either. Everything goes exactly as predicted because the MC has a super op ability. The political intrigue and catty fights between the MC and her previous maids, as well as the ML's 'lover' are what I liked the most. The ML... more>> and his subordinates are also cute and entertaining to read about. The MC herself is a bit bland, lacks an interesting character and is kinda just elegant, smart and existing.

The main things that I dislike are the pacing and some of the character's one-dimensionality. The novel is slow af with a lot of meaningless drivel about meaningless things. It seems like nothing ever happens. Cute moments are few and far between. Some characters are just plain s*upid and have no reason behind their actions or thoughts. What could have been an interesting villain turns into a bumbling stepping block for the MC.

It is decently entertaining though. And the translation is very good. So I do recommend it for the casual reader :) <<less

This story is hilarious and cute, the beginning is a little slow, but for read the ML and FL interactions and "adventures" worth it.

Is important mention that the original chapters are short and two are one in reality (more or less), so keep that in mind if you think that all you're reading have taken much time.

I really love this story, and the growth progress of the principal characters is notorious chapter by chapter🖤

The story was interesting, especially the lore that cements everything. If you like fast paced stories, a big focus on revenge (we do get it though), and/or overpowered characters, this isn't for you.

There's a lot of twists and turns, which honestly is to be expected when a story has political intrigue and/or romance.

If there's proper reading comprehension most can be inferred. That doesn't mean it was spoon-fed. It was presented well and it wasn't boring, so the plot proceeded organically.

Although there's a proper ending, the side stories pretty much continue... more>> from there, That isn't bad, I find the side stories to be a cute way to give it a finish.

In terms of characterization... I'm going to start from the MC, and use her to go on with the review.

The portrayal of a person that was imprisoned alone, in a dangerous environment with her only connection to the world being what she can see with her power is very well done.

I was neglected and ab*sed, and my only way to understand life was books that I found in the tr*sh.

Change that to her sight and it's basically the same thing for a human's emotional and social development. So I can give my two cents here.

In her situation, one just doesn't get a chance to experience anything but pain and fear, getting numb is more than expected.

It makes pretty hard to understand and/or condone some things about human interactions and conversations as a whole that don't make sense from a rational standpoint, too.

It pushes to focus on body reactions, expressions, tones, etc, not just the content, to be able to get it going.

There's a reason these things are mentioned as her being attentive to detail and having a good memory, it's a survival mechanism, that also bleeds on her way to use the sight, regardless of how tiresome it is to do it.

Thus, there's no mismatch between her being intelligent and the social situations she's in turning the way they do, regardless of how annoying it may be for others.

Rather, it would be nice if the other readers used this to realize all the things that the social sphere forces without a proper reason to and the consequences it brings.

Of course, one can argue that noble society is worse by itself, but, to be blunt, ALL social interactions have the same core problems in the end.

I appreciate how the matter of revenge and will to live was shown too.

After being battered for so long, the sentiment to death being a soulless "oh, it's happening like this", is realistic.

On the flipside, the author shows the reader how just one connection and/or trigger can change everything both inside and outside a person.

I think the way the revenge turned out is just perfect. It wasn't the focus of the story, her growth is. But they influence each other and the story.

I don't entirely dislike the ml, he has a cute side, but honestly... as other males in this novel, can be very annoying and/or s*upid at times. That just goes to show how much FL loves him to stay around.

The brother's appearance situation was a good way to start the last part of the story. I'm not a fan of fussy people but I can understand where he's coming from to some extent.

As for the ml's father, it was interesting to see how things evolved with him all along the story.

The guy we could barely call second male lead, well, I don't like that kind of personality. That being said, he acted properly when he had to. So I think that his situation in the end was well written by the author.

The main antagonists are such evil tr*sh. I was very satisfied with their comeuppance, they totally deserved it.

The extras, in all honesty, it was pretty impossible to not facepalm or/and laugh with their antics. They made the story more lively. Also helped the plot progress when needed.

The romance between the MC and the ML was a quirky slowburn. Considering who's involved, it makes sense that it was that way.

That being said, the progress was fun to read, the recurring chest situation always managed to make me smile and it was a good clutch for the author to use.

The translation I found and read was great, I'm glad that it was available.

The art of the covers and so on its pretty. I feel it fits fine with the content.

The title of the novel may sound like a weird choice at first glance. However, I think it fits the core of the story and what happens.

At some point of her pov, we understand why she had that perspective at first, and why that changed. That also means we can understand her decisions for the future.

Her musings at that moment are the best way to show how she changed, healed, and got a purpose after all the hardship she faced.

That's why I gave this 5 stars. It was well written, and it was deeper than it seems if one gets immersed. <<less

The development feels forced and ham-handed. The author needed to have some reason to put her back in conflict with the people she escaped, so that the book could continue, I guess. Ugh. I rolled my eyes so hard, I think I sprained something. <<less

I had finished (?) this novel prior, but am now revisiting this novel after the manhwa reminded me of it.

The translation is amazing, and you can always count on Miss Ruby to deliver! I very much recommend RubyMaybe translations for anyone reading k-novels!

In terms of the story, I think the only thing that comes to mind is: “Chest-Obsession”. I’m not sure if it’s the author’s personal interests showing up too often or what, but the author really took manboob-loving and turned it into major plot development.
Spoiler

MC literally reveals her powers (powers she’s been hiding her entire life), to rush into ML’s battle via mirror after seeing him slashed—only for the climax of the scene be because MC thought there would be scarring on ML’s chest.

[collapse]
It was funny the first few times or when sprinkled in sporadically, but it’s a little much, no? It took me out of the story several times over.

The premise was interesting, but plot itself wasn’t the greatest execution of the storyline I’ve read. I stayed to finish for Miss Ruby’s translations and for some of the character’s antics!

I wouldn’t recommend for people looking for deep, conflict-based political romance plots. I would recommend for people who need something lighthearted with ever-so slightly stronger story baseline.

The translation is stellar as is the usual for Miss Ruby. I tune in every week and will continue to do so until the end.

That being said, my problem is with the author. There are multiple ch that didn't need to exist, it ruins the pacing and adds nothing of importance.

Still, I had a good time so it would be unfair to give any less stars. The parts that drag will be easier to read through fast now that the story is all out. It was torture having to wait weekly for the next ch only for it to be a nothing ch narrated by someone you hate. <<less

This novel starts out pretty entertaining but then it falters as we get towards the end. The final chapters feel like they are from a completely different novel than the rest of the story.

The MC is Princess Aristine who has a very unique power known as the Monarch Sight. She is a bit EQ stunted as she has been imprisoned by her father for nearly her entire life. She is sent to Irugo for a political marriage but has already decided that she will start a business, make money, divorce... more>> her husband, and then find some other faraway country to live in. She reveals a kindness that she somehow maintained despite her treatment by her father and half-sister as well as a shrewd intelligence. Upon meeting the ML prior to their marriage, she suggests that they become business partners as she feels no attachment towards him. Shenanigans and misunderstandings ensue.

The ML is the prince of Irugo, a young man who is unofficially competing for the throne. Initially, he did not seem to care whether he became King of Irugo or that the Queen's faction was constantly insulting him. It is only after Aristine arrives that he begins to put some effort into that side of things as he won't allow them to belittle his wife (not because he cared about her originally but because she was his wife). Gradually, he begins to fall in love with the MC but has already accepted the fact that he holds no place in her heart.

Spoiler

However, it turns out that the two of them knew each other when they were children. When the ML was 10 years old, he was sent to fight monsters and would have died if the MC hadn't unintentionally used her magic abilities to arrive where he was to help him. They spent days together before she returned to her imprisonment and he became a legend among his people.

When they met up, this is never really mentioned. Only that the ML has a woman in his heart and that he would never love anyone else. The MC, on the other hand, had been so distraught by how wonderful her freedom had been so she chose to force the memory of those days down and forget them completely. This leads to the ML having a one-off moment where he calls himself terrible for being in love with two women as he had already fallen in love with the MC at that point in the story.

It's only later when the MC arrives to rescue the ML from impending doom that they both realize the truth. The ML then proceeds to make it clear that he wants to do the deed. The scene is rather hilarious as he ends up using his special aura to keep their tent from collapsing which horrifies his soldiers (because aura is supposed to be special and to use it in such a way....).

[collapse]

We follow the story as the MC showcases her unnatural intelligence and develops new medical scalpels using the Irugo smith's talents. This leads to some conflicts with the Queen (who wishes for her son to sit on the throne next) but the MC pretty much charms everyone she encounters. There is one character, Dionna, who has been pining for the ML and deliberately tries to cause discord between the pair but the MC just doesn't get what she's implying.

Spoiler

The MC actually thinks that Dionna is the love of the ML's life but the woman has only ever been treated as a casual member of the military group (at least that's how I interpreted it) because her brother had been one of the ML's men and sacrificed himself to save the rest of them. Dionna is a white lotus in this, even instigating another of the ML's men to believe that the MC is having an affair.

Her ending goes about as well as one would expect.

[collapse]

Everything plays out with the same tone until about the point that the MC and ML act on their affections for one another. Then the story goes downhill. We get more world building about people like the MC (and others in the Imperial family line), sudden revelation of her having a brother and that her half-sister was just as terrible as her father. While most of it was neat, it's a knowledge dump in the last chapters of the story which make it feel like such a disconnect.

Spoiler

Seriously. Their first night gets her pregnant which requires her to return to the Empire because she needs a special flower as her child is born with power like she was. That's when we learn that the Emperor's bloodline has the ability to have minor powers and "Authority" powers. Authority powers can kill the woman carrying the child if they're not surrounded by that special flower.

Her elder brother has telekinesis and then we learn that their half-sister (different mother) has the ability to read someone's past by touching them. This leads to the half-sister trying to pass herself off as the girl who was "rescued" by the ML (when it was MC who used her magic to go to his side as a kid) before revealing to her father that the MC is pregnant.

The ML chooses to go get the flowers from the highly guarded palace to protect his wife and kid but the MC saw his impending death so she teleports herself there. Which reveals that she is "Ascended" and legend states that she is now the Emperor chosen by God (what?). Her father gets deposed and she later reveals that she doesn't need the flowers so long as the ML is beside her as he's her "flower" (... what?).

Turns out that the Irugo people were originally Knights of the Empire but a previous Emperor with Monarch Sight knew that if he did not send them to fight the demonic beasts in the plains then disaster would befall his people. He also knew that if he sent them, his younger brother would kill him for the throne. So, being a good Emperor, he sent his knights away and then his brother took the throne and would not allow the knights to return. The Irugo royal family were all descended from the Emperor's Knight who was apparently appointed by God to ensure that they wouldn't ab*se the powers given to them.

That meant that so long as the ML is next to the MC, he could use his aura to help her and prevent her from suffering harm. Intimacy was also the easiest way to transfer that energy (You know, if I had a nickel for every story I read that had s*xual healing in it, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but still weird that it's more than one).

As I said, it was like a whole other story at the end.

[collapse]

The ending of the Queen was pretty harsh but then, she did attempt to assassinate the MC. The ending for the Emperor and the half-sister felt fitting but the MC's personality took on such a distinct shift that it also furthered that weird disconnect.

Spoiler

The Queen, knowing that the child of the ML and MC was going to be treated as an heir, makes a plot to frame the MC with the idea that the child did not belong to the ML. This also involved another of the Irugo Princes (who was dumb as a pile of bricks as he believed he would get the MC after the ML abandoned her) and a few random people as witnesses. This fails and she gets imprisoned for perjury and some other things. Then she tries to assassinate the MC and unborn child which ends up failing due to the actions of her own son (who had fallen in love with the MC) who sacrifices himself to protect the MC and his nephew. This results in the Queen and her family all being executed.

The MC imprisoned both the former Emperor and her half-sister for their various acts but really only decides to deal with them after they attempt to assist the Queen in assassinating the MC, the MC's unborn child, and the MC's brother.

After taunting her half-sister, the MC magically revokes her half-sister's clairvoyance (.... yeah... what?) before her brother and the ML decide that the half-sister is going to live out her life as a s*ave as the MC left it up to her brother to decide the half-sister's fate.

The deposed Emperor, on the other hand was kept in the same place he had the MC imprisoned as a child and the MC deliberately had the servants do enough to keep his hope up. Then, on the day she was to be crowned Empress, she set out a lavish table for him to sit at. Despite the fact that he has no allies and no hope of ever becoming Emperor again, the man is still written as incredibly delusional. He sits at the table and eats the food like he's expecting the MC to ask for his forgiveness/blessing before the MC reveals that she was returning what he gave to her on the day she went to Irugo. Which is when she puts an empty vial on the table and reveals she poisoned him with the same poison he wanted her to give to the ML.

[collapse]

Over all, the story is a good read as the misunderstandings are pretty entertaining. Then everything happens at the end and it's like going from Harry Potter to Game of Thrones. <<less

I really like this novel. As a reader who likes romance, I really like the romance in this novel because it has comdey spices and other things.

MC's character/personality makes this novel interesting because his behavior is out of the box, ml's shameless behavior is also very enjoyable even though sometimes I feel embarrassed when reading it.

I also like how misunderstandings can be resolved quickly, there are novels where misunderstandings take so long and it really makes me frustrated so I really like the misunderstandings that are quickly resolved in this... more>> novel. Ahh Of course, except for first love stories.

for the antagonists in this novel, in my opinion, there are some of them who should be intelligent people but when they meet or maybe because of the MC's behavior it makes them emotional so it depicts them as unintelligent people so it doesn't really harm our MC, or maybe because our MC is smart and has the ability to cheat to see the future :v. <<less

MC was smart and resourceful though with her powers giving her access to lots of precious information, she was basically living life with cheatcodes. But she properly wielded her weapon and that counts. Favorite part must be when ML was being so whipped and MC was absolutely indifferent. At arcs that had the potential to be annoying, most of them were resolved pretty quickly, sometimes even before anything happened so it made for an easy read.
