Claire Martino has a fairy-tale life anyone would envy, with a noble upbringing, a crown prince for a fiancé, and a promising future ahead of her as Noston’s most powerful mage. This one is a bit different from other villainess stories

I just finished reading the raws. For now there are 58 chapters which were last updated today by the author. At first I thought the story would have the same plot as the other stories, but no this one is worth reading. I wouldn't mtl it if it wasn't interesting in the first place.

Oh well I still don't like that two face bis- *cough* sister

The MC is too perfect. She's boring and there is no character growth. All the characters are 2D. The MC is not just boring but so naive. I mean really, the villain did something terrible. Don't try to fix her, that's really arrogant to think that she knows what the villain is thinking and can just "fix" them. The villain is also super dumb. I mean common if they can trick an entire kingdom, at least make them a little more cunning...

I MTL'd this one out of curiosity. It's good. It's not the usual change destruction flag stuff. When I read the synopsis I thought this was similar to that Villainess Doted by Neighboring Prince, but no. If anything, it actually has the same vibe as Akagami no Shirayukihime. Both girls ran away thinking she doesn't belong there. She met the prince and co., and was offered a new life in a new country.

1. Throughout the story I sometimes forgot this was an otome game. So that's good. Only the spoiled... more>> sister and the "dream" would remind me of it.

2. The conflict is pretty good; lighthearted but not boring.

3. The romance is pretty slow, but gentle and heartwarming.

4. The world building is decent.

That said, I think I missed 50% of the story because I MTL'd it, so some of those points could be far-fetched. 8/10 worth reading. Don't MTL it, it's painful. <<less

... I mean seriously? What was wrong with the first main scenario the novel had planned out? It's like seeing a sudden genre change that anime like Katekyo Hitman Reborn had from its original pure comedy anime to a battle shonen anime. But at least that was a good massive change. The massive change in arcs the author here decided to go with... just why? Not only does it not make sense, but it completely ruined my reading experience. I'm sorry author, but if you insist on sticking with this drastic new "arc" change that came without a warning, then don't expect people like me to continue reading this novel. It's like I'm watching Rokka no Yuusha all over again when the genre in that anime shifted from a seeming fantasy to a pure mystery anime just like that, and they executed said genre change in a terrible way.

You invest that much time and chapters into cultivating the romance between the two, and yet suddenly you go up and reset said romance to 0 for no reason what so ever? Why?!

Ok so I had pretty high expectations going into this one, and not gonna lie I was pretty disappointed. I can agree with others about the premise being interesting and different than other otome game reincarnation stories, but the execution is honestly just bad. Might have something to do with the translation, but it feels like there's no depth. To me, it reads like an elementary schooler's diary as they explain what happened throughout the day. Things happen, but it doesn't feel like there's any reason for why they do.... more>> The characters don't have clear motivations either. All this being said, though, the story isn't abhorrent or anything. If you wanna read something without thinking, then I'd say this one's a decent enough option. <<less

This thing reads like a fanfiction from 00's. Both in the story content and the way the available translation reads.

The way I'd describe what keeps happening the MC is "convenient". She continuously stumbles into the right people/situations, and of course those people instantly take a liking to her for no reason. Especially her encounter with Viek... talk about contrived. She's a classical Mary Sue, the kind that everyone loves and who is good and pure and perfect and always has good things happen to her. I'm not inherently against OP... more>> power stuff but at least make the story around it interesting.

And as I said, the prose reads like my attempts at novel-writing as a 14 year old. The writing style is incredibly stilted and basic. No offense to the translator though, tbh I figure the source material they were working with was the root of these problems.

I'm not gonna give it one star because I can see why some younger people would really enjoy something like this, but I can't recommend it to anyone above the age of 12. <<less

This is a interesting read! I loved every bits of it! Story is quite unique & it catches your interest pretty quick! I love the fact that the MC is quite earnest & modest! The suspense surrounding MC is interesting & is easy to figure out! I hope she gets the recognition she deserves & the truth comes to light & she ends up with pafit first prince! I hope everything goes well for our MC after the horrible treatment she abhorred at her father's country! I hate the fact... more>> that her two-faced sister got away with everything she did! I hope justice will be served & our MC's innocence come to light! <<less

I like the cast, all of them, they were all fleshed out like real character whom we can actually understand, not some random plot device here and there. Though quite one dimensioned, but relatable nonetheless. Which is a shame, like saplings without land, our characters got stranded in some ridiculous excuse of a plot without growth potential.

Cliché, main stream, etc... whatever the word. It's like a galge, or otome game to be accurate, without CG nor gameplay aspect, but worse, cuz there's no route or anything.

The world building, in my... more>> opinion, it's just bad. There are no substance, nothing. There's this country that has a family who's basically a "queen producer" for the imperial family, then the school, then the castle, done. Then there's this random country that'd been destroyed by someone else that magically connected to the FMC. Then here comes the bigger fish in the pond. Capital, school, some random nouveau riche, which is actually my favorite part of the story, NGL. Everything is just bland.

And this novel fantasy element, magic. Oh boy it's on another level of disappointment. Though I'm actually fine with that, if she, the author (yes the author is a girl, I followed her twitter), didn't use it as a convenient plot device throughout the whole story, multiple times.

The reason why I spend my time ranting like this is because the official release make no effort improving the storyline or something of sort, whether it's the author or the the publisher, which is kinda alarming. As far as I can see, the manga adaptation followed the same train wreck to a tee. No change at all. Like seriously whoever decided to publish it should have done a complete overhaul of this storyline, it got no future. I won't be surprise if it got axed midway. <<less

Official translation is good. Would pass as a western novel if not for the Japanese cliches

A tl;dr of this novel would be a generic shoujo version of Fake Saint of The Year

The story begins with a pretty basic "engagement ended with MC, her sister is my new fiancee" which is... well tropes doesn't mean something is bad, nothing new under the sun and all that. The distinct lack of "I've been reincarnated into an otome game" in the first 20 paragraphs brought hope to me that this is going... more>> to be a "proper" if not realistic aristocracy story.

Oh how wrong I was

As it turns out yes this is indeed an otome game, and it's revealed by showing 2 perspectives: the mc's game body and mc's "real" Japanese body, conveniently laying out prophecy of what comes next and critical information MC had missed via simple "someone tells me what's going on"

The characters themselves don't grow. They're exactly the same throughout the story and most problems are basically solved in just a few paragraphs.

The writing style is direct and, forgive me, very predictable. It's not like a twist is needed in every story, lest everyone knows it's coming defeating the point, but things being too predictable and problems solved quickly is a bad combination, it feels as if issues are brushed away. Like, how come nobody noticed this? Or how come nobody is bothered by this? How come nobody asked questions? Things like that

One of the infuriating parts is how the author writes the otome game reincarnation system. MC sleeps, she wakes up as a Japanese, her friend conveniently tells her everything she needs to know right now, she goes back to sleep, wakes up in her aristocrat body with her newfound knowledge. She got handed information on a silver platter, Fake Saint of The Year at least makes them put a bit of effort

Story itself is pretty basic: girl got kicked out, turns out she kicks ass, got herself a prince charming. There's not much going on due to love at first sight, and high society isn't explained much beyond someone curtsied and some such

This novel is mediocre. It passes as your first novel I suppose, but no more than that <<less

This story is great. At first I thought it will be the same kind of cliché that I always read in villainess stories. Although there are no character growth for the MC, this story gave the other characters a chance to grow. I hated the MC's little sister at the start and I thought she's a person who transmigrated in the body of the 'heroine' but she's not, which is a first in all of the novel that I read, but in the later part of the story it showed... more>> that she can eventually change. Also the interaction between the MC and ML is so satisfying. It's light-hearted and its wholesome. It's one of the best villainess story that I read. <<less

Novel is about average, with a Mary Sue type character that gets her halo taken away from her for all of like 3 chapters.

Nothing really interesting happens and if anything does it gets resolved super easily. TBH if you can turn your brain off this novel might be enjoyable, and even then half the things are kind of a stretch like,

Slightly more interesting than I expected. At first it was boring. Really boring. Just standard shojo, with nothing I hadn't seen before. Any problem the MC had was resolved super quickly. Like, lightening fast, blink and you'll miss it. The only thing that kept me from dropping it completely was that there hadn't been anything overtly terrible (and I was bored).

I was going to rate this two, maybe three stars if I was feeling generous. I will now give it 4 stars, because there was a bit of a twist... more>> I didn't see coming (if we could give half stars it would be 3.5, but I will round up).

At the point where the story seems like it is winding down, the MC is engaged to her new prince, they have the confrontation scene with her sister/the villainess/the original heroine and then return home...

The MC decides to go back in time. (She knows she will have the ability to for various reasons that are not really important). She re-starts even earlier than the story began, has the intention of trying to help her sister be a better person, and knows that she may not be able to replicate her treasured relationships.

I know there is another reviewer who doesn't like this twist, and they make some decent points, but really, everything was going so quickly I wasn't that invested in the romance (like, I'm pretty sure MC and Prince Charming only knew each other for maybe a month).

I was more interested in the fact she was willing to give it up because:

  1. Her friend had gotten seriously injured because of her sister
  2. The relationship between her home country and her new country was was badly damaged and at risk of escalating to war

The fact she placed those things above her personal happiness showed a surprising amount of sense for this character.

But don't get too excited. Even with this twist, things are still pretty smooth sailing for the protagonist. I don't think the author knows how to keep a conflict going for longer than a chapter and a half.

I suppose there are some merits to that, because things won't drag on for a million years.

Basically, if you don't go into this with expectations too high, and you keep in mind that this is definitely a cliche romance aimed at a young girls, you may find this an enjoyable read. It's quality is really barely around 3 stars, but I give it 4 for having some surprise creativity midway through. <<less

Just, was it really necessary for her to join school again, even though allegedly it's so that she can control her magic?

A really rare treat! I love that the character first exists in the otome game then gets a chance to peek in the real world and the game itself instead of the usual transmigration into the otome game. I really wanna mtl this one but I don't want to lose braincells.
