Our female lead is Great. You know virtuous and shit.

OUR MALE LEAD HOWEVER.? It’s kind for me to say he’s dumb WHEN HE IS USELESS, UNREASONABLE, and A DICK. Not to mention his mother.

Female lead WASTED.

To be honest, I DON’T CARE IF HE EVER CHANGES IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE HE DOES NOT DESERVE THE FEMALE LEAD?????

I reading novel and watching drama. I didn't find this novel hilarious but annoying and frustrating. I hate how a**hole, ungrateful, spoiled brat and selfish immature male lead is. He doesn't deserved our such heroic and virtuous General MC. I hate his mother too, both mother and son are tr*sh and spoiled brat who only know to throw tantrums.

MC save their country from enemy and even protected male lead. She work hard to be virtuous and respect him. Even give everything for male lead as long as he like or... more>> wants. But male lead and his mother complained her saying that she is not virtuous and throw tantrum and blame MC which make me angry ?. They are most annoying and ungrateful selfish, immature characters.

if only male lead personalities was decent, I will give five stars but this spoiled male lead annoying me. He sleep with lots of female and even throw tantrums at MC. <<less

This is a great novel for people that hate gender stereotypes like "strong men, weak women". The female lead is a tough general who has no qualms about killing people while the male lead is a delicate and pampered royal.

The reverse gender dynamics lead to a lot of weird/hilarious situations such as a girl trying to become the male lead's concubine because she's in love with the female lead and all the male lead's concubines ditching the male lead to fawn over the female lead because she spoils them with beautiful clothing and jewelry.

The novel does feel a bit draggy though because there isn't an apparent major conflict pushing the plot forward. It feels a bit more like character-driven slice-of-life. <<less

When the FL gets pregnant, everyone is just like "We're doomed." Because she's leading troops! I remember the ML's uncle, the Emperor, was staring at the ML's stomach and to quote the author "wishing the baby was in his stomach instead"

I found this story really refreshing, it has the concept of a strong female general that does not let anyone bully her, she really is head strong but naive to feelings such as care and love. The only thing I disike is the male lead, he is so hateful, I also abhor his mother she is too pathetic. As I read I felt sadness for the female, she lost so much and now she has such an s*upid in law and husband that can't seem to acknowledge the fact that... more>> she is really powerful and could eredicate them if she wished. They should be thankful she accepted the marriage with that worthless, selfish tr*sh. <<less

This book is hilarious! A fresh breath of air. The deliberate unashamed gender dissonance, plus gaily defied tropes... The ML, so far at least, doesn't seem to me as bad as people keep saying. Yes he doesn't respect her, but if we look at him as a spoiled beauty pressured into an extremely face destroying, life threatening marriage he isn't too unreasonable. Maybe he get worse as the story progresses?

Anyway, hoping another translator picks this up. Pretty please? With a cherry on top?

I'm sad that this has been abandoned, the drama is so excellent! Not going to start this until someone starts translating it again, though. I've gotten interested in too many books that stop early on, leaving me hanging. If you haven't watched the drama, I highly recommend it though. It't great!

the FL is so awesome and cool! Hahaha. Some say they hate the ML.. I like him though. Because it gives a new feeling.. And that not all ML are the cliche "I am great, manly and strong" type.

The MC is a woman and a famous general and is very manly while the ML is a prince of the imperial family and looks like a girl :D.... Their marriage was forced by the emperor and the ML was very unwilling resulting in hillarious situetions with the MC using military war tactics in order to make their marriage work and take over the city :D (pfff)

Its an awesome novel! <3

Note: All the concumbines of the ML try ver hard to please the MC and she has many women... more>> wishing they could marry her often making the ML jealous :D <<less

I love this novel very very much.

Actually, for this story, I didn't start with novel because I read the description and saw the cover, it's so not interesting at all. Then when the drama adaptation "Oh My General" show, I give it a try and I was OMG it's my type. I love the drama, though it's not eng subbed at this moment and when I read the novel, it was also dropped at chapter 16 T.T

Alright, back to the novel, it was about a great female general who just... more>> got back from war and got married to a useless Junwang. The female lead is great and manly, yes. The male lead is useless, yes BUT he was spoil by his mother till lazy so he had no ambitious at all, though he's smart and had tricks under his sleeves no less than a fox.

All the characters had their own flaws and I love those, they're human after all. The story also contain lots of dry humour.

Last but not least, I hope someone will pick this up soon, please.. <<less

First of all, I love all the characters in this story.

there are so many novel with strong man and weak women. But this one is so refreshing. I am laughing so hard since I read the 1st chapter.

i will give 10 star for this novel.

I love, love it. It so funny and amazing. The roles are reversed here, FL is the stronger one. I just love the relationship and interaction between FL and ML even when he was still a brat.

I refrained from reading this novel given the negative reviews about the ML, Xia Yujin. But guys, this guy is honestly so cute! Of course, he was so despicable at first, but looking at his background, his attitude does make sense. He was sickly and he resembled his deceased father the most so he was pampered too much. He was also said to not live beyond 18, so all went according to his whims. Despite this, he was never cruel and did not care much about background when interacting with... more>> others. He is also very clever. Other than gambling (lol), he has keen eye in identifying fakes from real items and he is also well versed in dodging hidden bullets in politics. I understand the frustrations of others given his very patriarchal view, but that's the norm during their time😅. He was always complaining about the FL not being gentle and being too manly, but guys, I swear just wait for this guy to fall in love. He has learned to accept Ye Zhao the way she is, and he's even proud about it.

He was even reluctant and sad when the emperor took the FL's command of the army. When the war came, the officials were unwilling to reinstate FL as general to save their face, but he was the one who volunteered to send his wife to war, because he wanted to support Ye Zhao. He did this regardless of being ridiculed and being called a cowardly husband. Also, when he found out his wife is pregnant, he went to the battlefield and helped cover up her pregnancy. He even volunteered to be a decoy and pretend to be Ye Zhao, despite his fears. There's so much more! Just read it 😭

He has the most character development in this novel. 🥹 Sorry for the very long paragraph, I just like him too much and there is too much negative reviews about him! It's rare to find an ML who does not outshine the FL (you can find many novels with strong fl, but in the end, ML has to be stronger lol).

Both ML and FL match each other. Ye Zhao loves Xia Yujin the way he is and did not ask him to change. It was Xia Yujin who changed himself for Ye Zhao.

With regard to other characters, I felt sorry about the villain and our dear Liu Xiyin. 🥹

Given the backstory of Prince Qi, no wonder he turned into a villain. Of course, it did not justify sacrificing the country for revenge. However, this is just a matter of perspective. If he was the MC, we would have been rooting for him.

Meanwhile, I also feel bad about Liu Xiyin. Yes, she was vicious and scheming, but imagine loving a person for 10+ years. She even embroidered her wedding dress and was simply waiting for the war to end to marry Ye Zhao (who she thought was a guy and and who promised to marry her when they were children 😭). In the end, she sacrificed herself for FL. She loved Ye Zhao regardless of her gender 😭

As a translator of this novel and having read the whole thing in the raws, I just want to give my opinion on this novel!

First, the setting. Historical, but not set in any distinguishable era. This is not the kind of story you'll get deep knowledge of imperial China from.

There's politics at play, but not overly so. We never leave the protagonists much, except for a few chapters giving insight on the antagonists, so most of what the readers learn is filtered through the protagonists' view, which makes it both... more>> easier to follow along and more investing.

Like many readers, I think, I found this story after watching the show. I don't want to make a media comparison analysis, but I will say that this book satisfied several grievances I had with the show, especially when it came to the male lead's character and behavior. He's the one who changes the most in the story, so to everyone who is (understandably) frustrated by him in the beginning, I say: keep reading! I also liked the background we got on the female lead, which we did not get in the show. She's an interesting character, and I greatly enjoyed reading about her way of thinking, her motivations and the way she approaches her relationship with the male lead, even though sometimes I could not relate to it.

The most important thing for me is the balance and agreement the protagonists struck. You can really feel how solid their marriage is, and it's nice.

Obviously this story touches on gender expectations and the societal weight of a patriarchal society, and I think it does it in more interesting and deeper way than a lot of people (reviews) have perceived, mostly because it takes some chapters for things to appear clearly. The male lead does start as quite unlikable at the beginning of the story, but the whole point is that... He grows. And so does the female lead, who's far from perfect (though... I know).

I also enjoyed the side characters' storylines in this book, they have their own motivations and goals, but it never eclipses the arcs of the protagonists.

Finally, though this novel has plot, it's not a deep dive in politics or war; I think it's a nice balance between plot and character-driven development. It's also very funny in Chinese, I hope I managed to convey that in my translation! <<less

The first 3 chapters were pretty funny, but the MTL needs HEAVY editing.

Its very difficult to make out what is being said there and takes a whole bunch of effort.

So, while its first impression was PRETTY DAMN GOOD in content, but the cost of time and effort to understand it is too high.. FOR NOW

I will update this review later if there are any changes to this scenario, or even just going past 60 chaps
