[Update in Progress: Bug Fixing]

‘The Mayor Simulator’ is a game with an intriguing design.

As an infrastructure-building game, the protagonist can be killed by NPCs but can resurrect unconditionally.

However, there’s a bug in Vivi’s game: after resurrection, her body doesn’t disappear.

Looking at the body in front of her, she comes up with one, two, three, four, five daring ideas—

Being the mayor of Gotham City is a high-risk job.

But their new mayor seems to be doing quite well, lively and active even after more than a month.

Those who paid for the mayor’s life are furious, giving the assassins poor reviews.

One day, a certain Bat in the midst of battle accidentally enters the lady mayor’s office and knocks open a cabinet.

Dozens of casually stacked bodies tumble out of the cabinet with a thud.

The Bat: …

【Please select how to deal with your body—

[a. Spend 1000 gold and send it for cremation] [b. Hide it in the nearby cabinet/box/under the desk]】

Vivi: I choose option c! Gain greater economic benefit from the BUG!”

it is truly good

I won't give a full 5, because the ending was a bit rushed, in my opinion this deserves a 4.8.

For someone who knows batman too well, maybe can find some parts amiss, but as I knew only the general story I truly enjoyed a lot and I could sense the author did research before writing. I recommend giving a try

This is legitimately soooo much fun. The exploration of Gotham as a city is a great story, the translation is well done and the characters are (if not particularly deep) well written and engaging.

I can't wait for more chapters, keep up the good work translator!

Really Good, I actually read the raws in a Chinese website using a machine translation when they were starting the English ones so... without spoilers I can say that this is really a good fanfiction that involves batman, maybe there are some issues with some directions taken but, that just me.

Really good, I encourage you to read it for a while, is a good fan fic, and even adds more than just one thing...

so, read it for fun if you want

This is a very good fanfic. It's rare I see a Chinese story so well adapted, without any local nonsense or untranslatable bs. It's completely multinational, well written, well designed mystery story. Sadly, there are some downsides.

Like the ending. It was not unexpected much. It's also very confusing. There seem to be some foreshadowing just before the end, but generally, I failed to completely understand what the hell happened.
Spoiler

Protagonist seem to have accepted her true self and returned to her normal life.

Even if author tried to answer everything. The ending IS rushed, last chapters almost seem to skip a lot of narrative.

I'm also confused about the romance (?) thing? It seems to have no direct setup or signs, but we do see the guy spending more and more time with protagonist. And suddenly at the end everything ends with a hug. It's a mess.

Plus the story ended before real goal is even achieved. Feels like author thrown away the plans for the future and quickly ended everything in an instant. Literally, in a single chapter, with no setup.

Worth reading, but ending is unsatisfying. Not in answers, but in how it was written.

my first ever personal 5 star novel, there was a little something that I didn't like at one point but it seems to be absolutely minor as I don't even remember it.

a shame this novel didn't win any awards, unlike some tr*sh I had the displeasure of reading.

from start to finish I didn't feel I was reading a chinese novel, was it the translator or whatnot I have no idea, but damn it felt similar to reading LotM except it was better than that.

the only problem I might have with... more>> this novel is that it was too short, which made the authors month long timeskip feel that much worse, but on the other hand, it didn't overstay its welcome unlike a certain Klown <<less

Pretty good story, interesting, lots of events going on one after the other. I liked it.

It says "Gotham City" but the author did a good job making sure the main character was Vivi, and not any other known characters like Batman, Joker, etc. They really felt like side characters to Vivi's story and I liked that.

Some parts of the story were difficult to understand though, simply because complicated things were going on.
Spoiler

Although Vivi is only one entity, she ends up controlling like 3 other entities by the late part of the story, and she can use them simultaneously for her plots. Which is why the switching and plotting is sometimes a bit hard to follow.

[collapse]

Explanation about the ending: Yeah it was fast, but it also makes sense cause halfway through the story, I already noticed a few things were off about what was going on.

Spoiler

7 years ago, Ra's al Ghul tried to summon the projection of an Eldritch Horror to grant him immortality. The location of this summoning attempt was in Gotham City. At the time, a nameless orphan working at the mines was captured and killed as a sacrifice, cause summoning Eldritch Horrors tend to ask for human lives as summoning sacrifices. This orphan has the brand "VV" on the back of her neck. When we start the story, we're told that Vivi is the main game character created by the "player". However, she uses AA "Anna Alek" to act as mayor. This is like creating multiple game characters for one RPG, and you can switch between characters.

The major hint that it isnt a game for me was halfway through the story and she never ever logged out, not even once. As a gaming addict, I can play for days on end but I still need to sleep and actually rest, eat and do other human stuff. Vivi never logged out of the game in the first half, which lead me to wonder if she had more stamina than me or if this was a hint that she was trapped in the game or something.

[collapse]

The first half of the story was more easy to follow, episodic, fun events where Vivi really fixes the city using player upgrades and abilities. The second half is where things get complicated.

Spoiler on Vivi's different player roles:

Spoiler

Every single one of Vivi's identities is useful to the game. Vivi herself is the main point of contact used to interact with the superheroes. Anna Alec "AA" is mayor of the city (does everything related to mayoral approval and used for her ties to the Diamond family of New York and the R family, from the Court of Owls in Gotham City). Bella Bettywen "BB" is a police officer, later on Warden of the prison, originally useful for the 1st half of the story and then delegated to more of a backseat role. Mr. C "CC" is a sock puppet used to pretend theres someone backing Vivi and shes not just some player drawing things out of nowhere. Daisy Diamond "DD" appears in the second half of the story once BB isnt as useful, used to assist AA and interact with ancient magical texts.

[collapse]

Ending spoiler:

Spoiler

Vivi actually represents the soul of the City of New Gotham. There's the centuries old Gotham City who has a city soul, but also a separate city soul for the new city of Gotham rebuilt on the old city. Human vessels aren't enough to contain Eldritch horrors, so the descent was rather into the soul of a city. But since Gotham had two city souls, things didn't go according to plan. The summoning failed. Every one of Vivi's AA, BB, CC, DD's identities were linked to a real person, who had to die before they could be assigned to Vivi's game interface, their deaths and situations will be revealed in the last 10 chapters of the story.

Romance and other spoilers

Spoiler

I dont consider there to be any romance in the story. But I do admit the author probably has a bias for Jason Todd (Red Mask) cause he's the member of the Bat family that shows up the most with the MC. But considering that MC takes on the form of an 8 year old child as Vivi, they all feel a sense of protection towards her, not love. The ending is an open one, there isn't a final talk or chat, not even in the extra chapters, where the MC reveals what she really decides to do in the end.

One of the rare Chinese fanfiction that definitely earned its place as a web or light novel. Has typical Chinese humor that keeps you laughing up until near the end, but it wraps up nicely in a way you don't normally see with fanfiction in general. I highly respect this writer, because they made a complete and interesting world out of the existing canon along with a fully realized plotline. I don't normally read Batman or Chinese fanfiction, but I'm very glad I gave this one a try.
