I think my standards for what constitutes ab*se are maybe too high for me to enjoy this novel fully, because the dogblood really was unconvincing for me. While I did think the emotions were well written, the reasoning behind the MC rejecting the gong so much just wasn't enough for me. Perhaps I'm just being too big an apologist for the gong here, but really I don't see the problem with their deal, giving the shou the crown in exchange for his body... I suppose it may have felt more coercive if I didn't love the gong so much to begin with, but if shou also loved him back from the start then what exactly made him so mad about the situation. The gong literally gives up the crown for shou and is constantly giving his full support- while he says he doesn't trust shou, the man literally is on shou's side 100% and basically dedicates his entire life to stabilizing the empire just for shou. Even with the pregnancy plot, gong straight up informs shou ahead of time that he's giving him the fertility drug, it's not like he did it secretly and just puppeteered the shou around. I just don't understand the plot of this novel unfortunately, and it didn't really trigger many emotions for me as I didn't feel the dogblood was situationally appropriate. In the end I just felt bad for the gong the whole time, he really deserved better... The r*pe is barely r*pe as it's an agreement, the baby is informed consent, and the tattoo was hot. Well, I'm just an apologist for this gong what can I say. It was just tiring for me to see the shou constantly dead faced and crying, when he had gong basically on his knees begging for affection.
