In life, there are eight sufferings for human beings: birth, aging, illness, death, being apart from loved ones, being together with those you hate, not getting what you want, and the suffering of the flourishing Five Skandhas.

These eight sufferings, Zhou Qing had experienced it all.

After she died, her soul lingered to witness the tragic deaths of her loved ones, the enemy took her child’s place in enjoying all the wealth and glory. She hated, till her heart turned stone yet she was unable to do anything.

It was most likely that because of Zhou Qing’s sincere prayer in front of Buddha that she ultimately once again opened her eyes. But this time Zhou Qing had returned to the time four years before her death.

For a son, a mother had to be strong. In this lifetime, she could not afford to die.

First, kudos to the translator. They did a really nice job!

As for the novel itself, it's pretty much a mixed bag.

The early chapters were interesting. It has one my favorite theme, a revenge novel: MC and her son died a gruesome death, she wakes up once again as her younger self and decides to make the culprits pay.

I also liked the characters: MC is strong and courageous, the MC's family and entourage were really sweet, the ML was the dark and brooding type and even the villains were well thought... more>> off. But not only did the revenge plot end early on but it was also quite tame and anticlimactic.

Also, one major plot point, the one that created the rift between MC and ex-husband, or to be precise the r*pe and its aftermath was never really addressed. It happened off page: MC was r*ped by a drugged stranger in her room, in the confines of her own house, but it seemingly left little to no psychological scars towards the perpetrator. All the hatred was aimed at the mastermind (ex-husband). Hmmm, guess some people compartmentalize assault better than I ever thought possible and it suuurely has nothing to do with the fact that the perpetrator (albeit manipulated into it) is meant to become the futur ML huh? Honestly, that felt a little cheap.

And well, for the rest of the novel, there is some plot points but they seem to be there mostly to prop up the budding (and somewhat boring) romance between the leads. Ultimately, that wasn't my cup of tea, so I just dropped it 2/3 of the way in. PS: For the impatient ones (like me), the mtl is decent. <<less

This differs from a lot of rebirth stories in that the various plots against the FL, ML and their friends are a) fairly believable in their scope and setup and b) efficiently wiped out by the ML before they become convoluted- no superpowered mega intelligent badguys here. I actually really enjoyed that. The ML isn't really OP, just someone in a really powerful position who shouldn't be messed with. There are things that don't get adequately explained (how did they work out that the sister's baby was a substitute... more>> in the original life?) but no major plotholes and the ML, although the dark broody tortured type, dotes on his wife and child and does useful things to demonstrate that. The FL doesn't hold the initial r*pe against him (because he was drugged and taken advantage of by her creepy first husband) and apart from that encounter which occurs off screen, the ML treats the FL with respect and doesn't make decisions for her. A good read and a bit different from the majority of the ones I've read in this genre <<less

So far, the FL seems to have gotten her act together after being reborn, alas too late to avoid her husband setting her up to be r*ped. She is cleverly keeping her reputation even while thwarting her in-laws. Looking forward to face-slapping, hopefully I will not be let down.

This novel is pretty realistic and you see the MC progress with realistic settings and nothing too OP which made everything much more believable.

I MTL the end as I was quite impatient to see the end and even if the tone at the end is a bit more slice of life in that dynasty and less angst and revenge it was well constructed enough that I finished the main text easily. (Haven’t read the extras but the ending is satisfying enough IMO. Also thanks to the author for not cooking... more>> overused plots that wouldn’t have made sense.

She is indeed a woman from that time period that only was influenced by her own demise so I liked that she wasn’t as desensitized to social structure and norms such as the impact of divorce as most modern time travelling FL. One good thing is that she isn’t OP per se but relies (mostly) on her skills and good will built with others

Just the right amount of « pushy » to justify MC getting out of her shell without being cringe or criminal (NC is NC even if some readers can appreciate it in a fiction). Smart but not OP and not deranged either. As the plot is condensed it is the ML that moves the plot along but it feels justified by the setting rather h-than Mary Sue.

The translator is doing a great job but I ended up completing it with MTL.

The novel is not exactly groundbreaking but it's a nice rebirth story. It deserves a 4 but I gave it a 5 because of the current rating.

Very Fast paced story. All the development are quick, no lagging felt throughout the plot.

I usually dont write these kind, but....

I honestly think this could've been written better. This is a typical rebirth story where the only out of norm mode of meeting the ML who r*ped her while being married, the whole incident orchestrated by her own husband because he is impotent.

The side characters were all given little to no character growth, especially the cannon fodders- who were busy looking for death at every turn. The part which really... more>> ticked me off was that any character who stood on the loosing side would immediately feel disgusted and hatred towards the MCs (then they start plotting), I mean people are not inherently bad and that s*upid normally. At the least not every villainous cannon fodder would be that s*upid, so often. New ones are even created as the story progresses and just forgotten on the way!

It’s a 3.5

its an enjoyable novel. Felt the arcs were rushed out but for the most part well solved. I like the FL and although it’s initially a revenge plot it quickly change orientation. The ML is dark and brooding but not a jerk or a very domineering type.
