Guide to Feeding a Villainous Husband

Description

Chef Qin Xia, while on vacation, met with an unfortunate accident and transmigrated into a novel.

He became the cannon fodder character who forcibly married the antagonist while the latter was injured and amnesiac-only to eventually meet his end at the villain’s hands.

The “husband” that the original character had bought from a broker was none other than Yu Jiuque, the future Head of the Directorate of Ceremonial and Eastern Palace (Embroidered Uniform Guard, jinywei’s department), who would one day wield immense power over the empire.

With a beautiful face but a venomous heart, Yu Jiuque was infamous for his ruthlessness.

When Qin Xia arrived in this world, the original character had already dragged the antagonist into bed, intending to consummate their marriage. Feeling the chill on his neck, Qin Xia stiffly changed the subject: “Are you hungry? How about I make you some noodles?”

Yu Jiuque then proceeded to eat all the noodles-five bowls in total-and declared himself to be Qin Xia’s husband, wholeheartedly devoted to warming his bed.

Since there was no way to get rid of this “great Buddha,” Qin Xia had no choice but to go out and make money before they both ended up in poverty.

The neighbors soon noticed that the local street thug, Qin Xia, had turned over a new leaf after getting married, even setting up a food stall. At first, no one believed that his food would be any good-until they tasted his iron plate tofu, grilled cold noodles, starch sausages, spicy sour noodles, grilled chicken racks, Chinese pancakes, thumb-sized dumplings, egg burgers, and steamed rice cakes…

Qin Xia’s food stall became a hit!

Before long, the food stall turned into a proper restaurant, and people realized that Qin Xia could do more than just street food.

A honey-glazed ham, glistening and tender, sweet and soft;

A pot of braised eel, tender and flavorful, perfect with rice;

“Three Crisps” from the mountains, beautiful and bursting with the freshness of spring in every bite; “Wensi Tofu,” shredded as fine as hair, left everyone in awe.

The restaurant was bustling every day, bringing in a fortune.

But one day, Jiu Ge’er suddenly disappeared from Qin Xia’s side. Everyone speculated that, as they say, “men get rich and then go bad,” thinking that Qin Xia must have abandoned him to marry a wealthy wife.

Months later, in the distant imperial capital, the most feared man in the court, Yu Jiuque, suddenly sneezed. He placed his hand on his slightly rounded belly, his face darkening with displeasure.

Under his formidable gaze, the ministers in the hall fell silent, trembling like leaves.

— Lord Yu’s thunderous wrath. Today, someone would likely lose their head!

But after a long pause, they only heard Yu Jiuque’s icy voice: “If you have something to report, speak quickly. If not, get lost and don’t delay me from going home for dinner.”

Author’s note: The original plot is just a backdrop, and the story mainly revolves around food and business management. The romance is sweet and slow-burning, light-hearted, and warm, with no problematic relatives. There will be children and family-building later on.

I love it! It's the kind of novel you'd read when your taking a break from a novel, I'm on a break from Erha so this is fun to read. It's interesting, I haven't finished this yet since only c14 is out, so I don't have many criticism + it's a gong MC novel so I'm really happy.

aaaaa this is the danmei you need if you are a foodie. Forget about all the rest of the cooking danmeis, this one will make you hungry and feel like you're reading a cooking show 😮‍💨 The author really knows how to describe the food and how it's cooked very well, it made me jealous of the ML who gets to eat all of MC's food 🥹

If there is one thing this danmei has taught me, I need to find a husband who is gentle, considerate, great at cooking, pampering... more>> and strong as the MC. I can gurantee you will have a long lasting marriage like the MC and ML 💖

Beside the cooking element, plot is also pretty interesting.

Spoiler

So the MC transmigrated at the start of their marriage and manage to capture ML's love through food which I thought was funny. However ML's health is really bad especially since he also lost his memory so they didn't consummate until a bit later on.

So the first half of the story is the MC making money with his cooking since used to be a michelin star chef in his previous life so he invented many new food from the food stall until eventually a restaurant. However the plot took a turn once ML recover his memory and realized he was a palace eunuchs who was helping the deposed crown prince reclaim the throne. MC already knew ML's identity so when ML told MC, they both told each other the truth of their identity. Afterwards they had to separate for a bit until the situation with the crown prince is settled before the MC joins the ML at the capital. Then you have a focus in the latter half of the story in the Capital where MC opens a restaurant. There are a few political parts but overall there is no main antagonist.

MC and ML have one child that is a ge'er who has the same appetite as the ML

[collapse]

Usually in most seme protagonists story, the ML doesn't really have a strong role and is seen as a support to the MC or if they do the MC often outshines them and ML becomes dependent on the seme. In this danmei the MC and ML have their own strengths and role (job) that is completely different but they provide each other support that doesn't try to outshine each other's role but instead compliments them. MC understand ML's heavy responsibility in his role and doesn't try to restrict ML or get in the way but instead took care of ML whenever he is sick, tired or need emotional support. MC is a 10/10 husband material for any working partner I tell you 😭 <<less

I love this, 10/10 must read and re-read. So sweet, daily pampering, minor misunderstandings and a lot of food, it might not be for someone who find reading cooking descriptions tedious but I love it. The extra at the end is also super sweet and could be read as it's own short book.

The most heteronormative yaoi that I've ever read.

In this novel, there are 3 genders, men, women, and ge'ers- essentially men with wombs. The novel's treatment of ge'ers equate them to women, and perpetuate gendered stereotypes. The novel repeatedly emphasises how women and ge'ers like sweet treats, perfumes, scented lotions, and feminine clothing, and the characters largely reinforce this line of thinking. The ML picks up sewing after marriage, and prepares baths for the MC to use after work, which is the expected behaviour of a traditional Chinese wife. The MC,... more>> despite being from modern times, allows himself to be served, and does not question or challenge such archaic beliefs.

Additionally, in the story, ge'ers seem to be a replacement for women. A way for homos*xual relationships to fit into societal expectations of getting married early and having children for their husband. All the ge'ers in the story eventually end up married, and willing to bear children for their husband. They also hang out with other housewives and domestic chores such as laundry or embroidery together. ML is also usually grouped together with the women.

For what it's worth, the depictions of food are accurate. The pictures of food (which are sometimes incorrect), pictures of the setting and ai generated images of the couple's pet goose are interspersed throughout the novel by the translator. This really breaks the immersion of the story and decreases my enjoyment of the story. In my opinion, the images are jarring and unnecessary.

Lastly, the main character is depicted to be better than imperial chefs at cooking, which feels kind of unrealistic. He also doesn't really face much struggle when expanding his food business, causing the story to be rather formulaic and predictable.

Overall, I really dislike how archaic and traditional expectations of gender roles are projected onto all of the characters in the novel, all of whom conform without question. This story is meant for mindless entertainment. <<less

This is definitely a top-notch foodie novel with lots of descriptions about Chinese cuisine, history behind some of them, and beautiful pictures by the translator. A really well-translated novel with lots of effort by hololonovels.

As per summary, MC is the gong and is transmigrated into ancient times and finds himself married to a ge-er, the ML, a palace eunuch who is involved in political intrigues for the throne.

In the early chapters it's mostly focused on the rags to riches theme, whereby the MC uses his culinary skills and gradually has... more>> more money to pamper his little husband. He's working hard to earn the money for his household.

For the romance part, it is subtle and sweet. MC and ML support each other and there are tons of hints about their romance. Once MC gets over his initial "must follow novel plot" mindset, he definitely dotes on ML more. When ML gets his memories back, there is no angst, and MC is determined to follow ML to the Capital.

Basically an easy-going novel, minimal drama, minimal faceslapping and MC and ML just work hard for their goals. <<less

This is the first bl novel that I read that didn't have any third party love villain/villainesses. Either the MC or ml, there is no love rival scene. But this is full of plots how our chef cooking is detail. But I gonna said the style of writing is different from others chef novel which I read a lots! To be truth food novel also one of my fav genre. This novel doesn't make me feel boring. The author grasped the detail for a food lover very well.

It okay to... more>> read, enjoyable and sweet love story but definitely not on my reread lists. Something good to pass my free time but not enough to hook me to read it many time <<less

This has so many good points! I'm glad I chose to read it!!!

I love how they don't do Miscommunication Misunderstanding tropes even when ML feel sad and bothered at the beginning by MC's action (or lack of thereof). I'm talking about how MC is really Sweet but keep some line between him and ML because the Amnesia stuff and knowing ML'S Real identity.

I love how when ML confront him, MC finally realize the reality and how he don't need to create that wall in the first place.

And I Love it... more>> even more when the Amnesia tropes finally over, they reveal everything~

Anyway, this novel while not focus on Romance, DOES NOT LACK OF ROMANCE!!! Their Domestic Life is Blissful! Their romance is like a Blush on Makeup. It's Soft and Sweet!

The only warning in this novel is.... It really makes you wanna eat! No matter how not hungry you are, you want to taste and chew and swallow more food like all the characters in this novel do. I really had to eat my breakfast and dinner and snacks while reading this novel just to lessen my craving. Lol 😂 help

The Business part is Thriving. While it's Slice of Life, it's not Trouble Free. But it's not Big nor making Faceslapping. It's still Satisfying that people who made trouble get what they deserve anyway. Still no real Villains though, just Cannon fodder or bad Passerbys.

Anyway this novel is really Good!

I'm just sad because I'm in the part where they're still Separated. Yes, after Amnesia plot they had to separate. No Angst though. Just Bittersweet. Bitter from the separation, but Sweet with how they missing each other so badly.

I just pray so hard the rest of the story is Satisfying till the end! 🙏🙏🙏

Finished at 29 January 2025:

It's still quite fulfilling story. Absolutely torture when reading it while fasting, but still good story till the end.

The main story ended nicely, but when the author drop that kind of extra... I wish the author would truly finish it with satisfaction. #sighed

The modern au wasn't bad though.

Anyway all in all the CP is fulfilling and the story is great till the end! I do Loving it! <<less

Its focused mainly on food, everything else is a backdrop and I do agree that the start of romance between ML and MC is abrupt, not much chemistry at the beginning to get me really hooked in their romance. Still, it's satisfying enough.

Ending was too abrupt, their child's problems were just beginning to be discussed in the end to get you hooked and then nothing, no follow up at all or tying up this loose end.

This was actually such a delightful read. The only downside with reading this was how hungry I felt each time I finished a chapter full of the delicious food mentioned... worst part is, the translator attached photos. I started craving Chinese food every single day for a WEEK. xD

Overall, NO REGRETS.

I absolutely LOVED the characters. The MC and ML were wonderful, and it was delightful reading their interactions with each other - especially the beginning when they obviously have feelings for each other, but for initial reasons, have to stay... more>> ambiguous and the sweet tension was *muah* chefs kiss.

The story's plot was nice and easy, no heavy politics and angst, and overall a wonderful read.

I do highly recommend this, it was also wonderfully translated. <<less

The romance is very slow to pick up but at the same time doesnt fade away, this is the steady kind of romance and little to no misunderstandings, as Yu Jiuqe and Qin Xia both come clean about their own situations once their time is up.

This is honestly a 90% cooking novel/cookbook even, but the romance is sweeter and more prominent at the end, especially in the extras. Definitely something nice to pass the time and with a big dinner in front or you'll suffer lmao

What I like about this... more>> one compared to the pther cooking novels is the effort author AND translator does to convey the descriptions of not only how the food tastes beyond "fragant" "smooth" and whatever other terms but also describe its appearance so nicely AND also take care in describing other innocuous background things like the wisteria of the alley, the bricks of the road, the corded pet necklaces, the hydrangeas in QX's restaurant... it makes for an easier time to picture mentally the setting and try to understand and inmerse yourself a bit further, thank you very much! <<less

I find this very boring so far. There is no chemistry between MC and ML. I have read farming slice-of-life genres with little to no romance that are entirely focused on food, but at least there was chemistry and an interesting plot.

So, for now, I will take a break from the novel and try again later.

This is very slice of life. It's slow and chill. If that's not your cup of tea, brace yourself? It's quite a good novel though. The translation is also good. I appreciate the food pics.

Basically, it feels quite realistic and down-to-earth. It's not very dramatic, but it's wholesome and warm. The romance is cozy, and the MC and ML are both reasonable people. Their personalities aren't the most interesting, but they're solid and stable people. Side characters aren't the most fleshed-out, but they're distinct enough.

It's a lot of food description... more>> and cooking. So much that it made the novel feel quite long. I would say it's 25% romance, 60% food, and 15% plot. This is very arbitrary, but it's how I feel it went. That said, everything felt very natural. The food was relevant to the story, and the romance didn't feel neglected.

I think my biggest gripe with the novel is how OP the MC is. Bro is a very talented chef, but it makes everything feel really easy for him, at least in terms of cooking. There weren't many obstacles for the MC, so there wasn't much suspense since I knew the MC was gonna win. That made it kinda boring at times, but he was still really creative and did go through some difficulty.

Honestly, this novel is NOT my type. I prefer action and drama, but I have to rate this one a 5*. It's well-written despite maybe being a bit too slow and lacking suspense... but I suppose that's not exactly a bad thing for slice of life fans. <<less

Currently finished with the main story and about a few chapters in the extras, I'm telling you this novel is a sweet, fluffy, precious gem! There's not a lot of conflicts in the story (or any real like-villains, just fodder), the MC doesn't go to the usual "following the original plot" trope as mentioned by ntww12. BUT there is a LOT of food corn- be warned. You might have the urge to snatch up some of your snacks or eat halfway reading the novel. The novel mainly focuses on the... more>> MC growing his food empire and the ML healing by his side, the only downside I could mention is that we only get to know MC and MLs child for a few chapters QAQ. He's so cute, I wish there were more of himmmm, but oh well~

The MC and ML also have very different jobs, their own strengths and weakness, and despite being both powerful in their own fields, they have their moments of weaknesses). One is a really good chef, and one is a very powerful Eunuch. The original protagonist is so cute too!
Spoiler

And I think he even fell for the MC and MLs child, but sadly his love is not reciprocated. I was kinda hoping but alas, court intrigue. It's fine if little Qin Xi is not interested.

[collapse]

The novel has a really good plot, with romance and food corn as the main course. I'm suddenly hungry for chrysanthemum hotpots...T-T... They also have very open conversations and the ML was very comfortable sharing his identity to the MC, though nervous at first. The MC also revealed his background in his own way that would be more understandable in those times, to the ML only. There was little-no tension, but a moment of bittersweetness when they had to separate because of the ML's returned memories. (I felt like this isn't really a spoiler since we know this would happen eventually.) This made me really emotional because of how sweet and tender their love was! And it made their reunion all the more better~

So please, don't hesitate and read this novel! It's even better than mere dogfood, it's a whole meal! Warm to the heart, refreshing to the mind, full to the stomach, with a sweet aftertaste! <<less

Almost perfect, one of many seme protagonist danmei I like, the story is light and full of food p*rn, I don't complaint about those, bcs it was the reason I pickup this novel. I love how MC and ML interaction, and how MC potrait himself as ML partner, his feeling about ML before and after he fall in love, I like how I can understand his feeling. Unfortunately we doesn't have many extra for main story, I really want to see how thier child became, well although is not that... more>> perfect I can give guarantee that 4.6 rating is indeed deserved. I'm only at chap 77 and I love it 🥰 The cooking may overwhelmed others but it was entertaining on my end. The couple was so sweet like honey and they talk and no misunderstanding. Yes. There were instances of secrets but it was soon revealed and talked to with each other. And these two lovely people are so kindhearted that I wish... they are boss on real life. Seriously, it was slow burn at first but I did not felt it because the steps were just the right thing... more>> to laid out. I really really do recommend this story if you like cooking novels or building up character story <<less
