The summary is a little misleading, lol. By that I mean, yes, it's the great ruler of the Stars, Overlord Xing, who decided to travel to these small worlds in order to save the stars (ie. cannon fodder) who had fallen due to tragic endings.

But with the characters he possesses, it's more like he takes a backseat to the character? He influences their personality a little so to help them be better people. Like in the first arc, with a boy who was a ruffian, he became a diligent student... more>> and got into a good university. But other than the character knowing the plot of the story and who they have to save (the cannon fodder), the POV we follow is them, not Overlord Xing. So the only time we actually see Overlord Xing is the prologue, lol. From that alone, we can tell he has a domineering personality. Basically, by the end of the arcs, he will leave the character he possessed, as if it were a dream for them. But his positive influence on them remains. Does that make sense? So the person we follow in the story isn't really the Overlord at all, it's the person he briefly influences. And it's not like he's a voice in their head/they talk and interact with each other. They don't. So again, to bring up this example, it's like when you wake up from a dream, and you don't remember everything, but the little bits that you do influence you a little... and I do like it this way, because when the Overlord leaves, the character whose POV we've been following, we know they have a happy life ahead of them with the life they've built with the cannon fodder. It's also better this way than the Overlord falling in love with multiple women, we know it's the individual characters in every world/arc. <<less

Its pretty good so far, engaging story, good translation, and qt with a twist I haven't seen before. On NU it says there is one chapter but on the translator's website there are 10.

Spoiler

The person changing the end of the stories is the original, they just get the story information of their world and are told who they need to save.

I was reading this half years ago and I don't remember the story anymore, but I still remember the feeling after reading this-- I feel empty and wanted to search something similar. It's not perfect, few arcs lack but other arcs make up for it and made your reading worth it.

This novel also have great quotes and great way to stir up emotions. Even the few arcs with their imperfections, the quotes is so good! (either romantic, motivating, poetic, etc) (sometimes I watched movies just for a short quote... more>> that appears a minute or less but the feelings delivered by the quotes made it worth it!)

I remember my favorite arc is between step sisters, each brought by their parents into new marriage. You must've heard the saying "with step mom comes step dad too (?) ". Nah, in this one the step mom afraid of being called of vicious step mom so she gives all the best to her step daughter while always scolding her biological daughter. You know, classic "if you don't care about them you won't be angry". So the bio daughter envy her sister for how her mom treated the step daughter gently, and the step daughter envy the biological one because no one scold her means the step mom doesn't really care about her. Messed up isn't it? But this happens in real life. A lot.

Ah... that arc really hits home. I feel like I wanted to reread this. It's definitely worth even MTL reading.

Oh, and the reviewer before said the MC is not Lord Xing is true, even sometimes not the male body he transcended upon. I feel like this novel could be tagged 'woman empowerment' because the FL of each world usually has more interesting plot, and how she struggles and wins is the star of the show. ML often served just like a narrator, lol. <<less

It's a light read. MC doesn't need to be OP to do things but he is OP when needed.

I also like that he leaves the body for the og owner to finish living their lives instead of permanently occupying it. But I don't know how I feel about his involvement with the FLs. He wants to save them as his little stars but he himself doesn't really fall in love with them... which is kinda confusing to me. It seems he doesn't really understand love. He acts it but doesn't... more>> feel it.

The things I disliked about it:

There's no kind of growth for the MC. Be it in strength, psychologically or emotionally. Like, not at all.

Very little is shown of the MC. You know he is acting as the hosts but there's no inner monologs showing his personality like most novels do. To the point as a reader I got kinda confused by the ends of the arcs if he had already left or not. We see him acting various roles but know almost nothing about him.

The overall ending. Super abrupt.

Spoiler

The ending is literally he just asking the "support system" star which one was the next word. They telling him and him going. That's it. Basically just saying he'll keep world hopping in the future.

[collapse]

Which leads to the next point. There's no main plot. Nada. None. Zero. It doesn't even say how many stars he has to help. There's no specific reason or culprit behind their dimming (which would be more interesting). And no sense of closure at all.

There's no loose ends on the arcs but the novel end is loose itself.

And lastly... the antagonists. Sometimes they are "innocent" but even when they are not... there's no proper revenge. No sense of punishment and most of time they just regret their actions after maturing and just don't live as good a life as they originally would. But no faceslaping at all... at most a handslap... not very satisfying to read tbh... so it's a very, very light read.

It's not bad that makes you think you are losing your time... but nothing that makes you feel wow what a great novel either. I can't say it made me lol nor cry... just think... oh he is handsome and kinda cool... <<less
