To survive in this zombie-ridden, monster-infested apocalypse, the rich rely on technology while the poor rely on mutations.

Shen Shanwu, who appears to be 13 years old but is actually 31, is a deceptive mutant. Despite his childlike appearance, his intelligence is not particularly impressive. One day, while walking down the street, he is suddenly forcibly adopted by a young general who appeared out of nowhere.

He resisted, but when he looked up, it turned out to be an old acquaintance.

The little boy, who could only hide behind him and cry, transformed into the unsmiling, cold, and tough man in front of him. And that expression of seeing a dead beloved is really unsightly…

Shen Shanwu: Can you smile?

Jing Huan: After Shanwu died, I couldn’t smile anymore.

Shen Shanwu: …Who? Who do you think is dead?

Much later, Jiang Huan discovers—crying while holding Shen Shanwu’s nameplate, waking up in the middle of the night calling out his name, telling his adopted son how wonderful Shen Shanwu was—all of this… has always been witnessed by Shen Shanwu himself!!!

Jiang Huan (raising his gun): Since you have seen my embarrassment, then I can only marry you or kill you.

Shen Shanwu: …

Shen Shanwu: Marry, marry, marry! I will recruit 800 zombies to carry you home!

I won't put a rating in this one, because I was freaking deceived. I thought that SS was bottom and JH was top and you're going to give me this😓😭😭😭, I like the story but I'm not into Top MC, and the story ended abruptly, MC didn't even get to revenge to his ex the same as ML's dad. I always thought that MC was bottom lol, I only found out when they had pay gorn on chap 58 and one more chap then it's done!!!!

This end... so abruptly.

He was drinking a soup and then "the end". I am in shock 😲

Like, there is no conquer the world or kill the humans or war between human vs mutan vs zombies or I fled with my love and never comeback or the love story between the leader of the human and the king of mutan or anything else like that!

... more>> It's too abrupt and not a climatic ending at all!

I feel cheated.

I like the story overall on how it written, the world building, the characters, and the plot. I like it so much.

But it's not enough!

It's like a book with torn pages in the middle to the last page.

It's like this is missing one or two arcs.

It's like I am eating a pizza bun and left the most middle with most meat to eat last but someone knock it off and it fell to the ground.

It's complicated feeling actually

It's short but the story settings is pretty solid. It's ten yrs into the apocalypse so everything was pretty much established already. The mutants are definitely OP and as usual, have complicated relationship with humans.

At first, you would wonder why there's no cooperations with humans, or even some mutants trying to Lord over as the powerful. After all, that's the cliches right? But then the story will answer all of these, and I especially like how each mutants have different representations of the relationship and the outcome with humans. Like... more>> some of them were accepted, rejected, accepted only to be rejected later, betrayed, experimented on, have a love one die for having a relationship with them, have a relative that hid them, etc.

The mutants are the existences that are born to survive in the apocalypse. They're the most unrestrained and most free. Everyone must live in a protective barrier while they can go wherever on earth. Sadly, they're still hopeless about human nature.

Spoiler

I especially like how it was explain that the black rumors about them are made by the government or at least, ignore it and just let the people misunderstand. It's impossible for the government to not know that mutants are 'conscious' and it makes me wonder how out of all bases, none tried to cooperate with mutants. Of course, there's the experiment cliches. But the MC also narrated that it's because humans will try to gamble. Zombies are ferocious and must be killed, but what if it's your relative? People will try to gamble that one in a million chance. The mutants also just let people misunderstand due to this reason.

[collapse]

Anyway, I really just like the solid lore of the mutants. It's very subtle, as there's many complicated political and moral aspect in their situation (goes just think about X-Men), so there's really not much conclusion about them. You just know that this is their current status quo. But as I said, their lore is still pretty much solid and I just love their group.

As for the romance aspect. It's already there? It's pretty much established. The shou was very much into the gong, and the gong isn't against the idea. So everything is just waiting for the great reveal. That is pretty much the conflict on their relationship.

There's no big villain. Maybe a little one. The ex. But nah, he doesn't take much space. Although he didn't have an ultimate ending, I wasn't disappointed. Like I said, he doesn't have much space.

Shou's father was shown once... How do I say it? He's supposed to be hateful but I kinda want to smack and laugh at him? Let's just say he's very very much awake. A selfish guy but very realistic.

I just hope there's more extra story with the team traveling with MC. Seriously, it's cool to have a mutant around. Imagine seeing all the zombies around running away, even jumping the windows. Also, you would want to cry with envy when it comes to eating. Not only they don't need to eat, but when they eat (as a hobby), they can still eat in the same way before apocalypse. Because they're immune from radiation, catching rabbits, picking wild vegetables, etc. to cook and eat are ok to them. They can still pick mutated fruits and be ok! People can no longer do that cause everything outside is contaminated. The cry of envy of the team ahahaha. <<less

4 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 for the entertainment. If you are looking for a realistic kind of background setting, this is not it. The whole radiation background and handling is a bit iffy.

The story itself is not exactly fun but entertaining with enough fun elements. The story is rather on the bright side, not too gloomy.

The apocalypse itself was 11 years ago when a superplanet far away exploded und its radiation hit earth. Now there are places with high radiation where no humans can go to and... more>> lower radiation places where they build their habitats. The survivors are normal human, the rest are zombies... but some zombies mutate after years, remember everything and get super powers. There are about 100 world wide and 9 in China. Humans are not friendly to mutants.

MC (31) is one of those mutants, his power is that he can change his form to all ages but always looking himself. ML (21) is captain of the top mercenary team in a top base but 7 years ago he was a spoiled little brat that got rescued by MC, followed him for 2 years until they found his grand parents. Some escalating misunderstandings later our ML thinks MC died (4 years ago) and he wasn't even able to confess... so he became emotional cold. MC thought that ML didn't want to meet him anymore (cause mutant etc) and didn't try to contact him anymore.

Then they met again... MC made himself look like a 11 year old to enter a base and sneak into the bases school cause he has to deliver a birthday present for a mutants son. Unfortunately his luck is shitty and he knocks into ML. Our still grieving ML sees a kid looking so much like his love that he thinks they must be somehow related and decides to adopt him... since MC is bored, he decided to follow and find out why that white eyed wolf didn't want to see him again.... and found out far more than he thought.

The story progresses not too fast but has some problems here and there. Especially the ending was not satisfying enough. It is a happy ending but it felt as if the writer set up to get the mutants recognized, there was even a big conference and mutants were invited, but then writer- san hit the breaks hard. The conference was put in like 2 sentences and nothing about the mutant representatives. So that screwed a lot up.

Nonetheless, I like this story and will most likely reread it. Also, the mtl is super easy to read. <<less

I didn't pay attention properly to the number of chapters in this novel, and that's the problem. When I reached the end of chapter 59 and saw the word --end, I was like "what the heck is going on here?". It's a bit too rushed, I don't see it as 'the end' at all.

I think this novel could actually be continued to resolve the relationship between humans and mutants, but that's just my wishful thinking. BTW you can try to read it, it's worth it

Entertaining novel, it was a fun read. The unfolding of MC's, Shen Shanwu, and ML's, Jing Huan, past relationship is scattered throughout the story. The pacing of the reveal was perfect... it hooks you in but doesn't aggravate by making you impatient.

The novel ended when another arc could've been started but the ending wasn't too abrupt. I'd rather novels end like this than going on and deteriorating in quality.

Spoiler

MC is 10 years older than ML. When ML was 13 years old, he was rescued by MC after he was kidnapped. ML traveled with MC until ML was reunited with his grandparents.

SPOILER...

...

ML's grandmother intercepted MC's letters and gifts to ML. This caused MC to think ML didn't want to associate with him anymore when he discovered that his gifts were thrown away. ML thought that MC had died because another mutant told him that MC was dead. Due to these misunderstandings, ML grieved for four years.

Short yet pretty good novel. I loved everything about the novel, the world building, reason behind Apocalypse. All the characters were really alive and not 2d. They had their own backstories, which I loved most about the novel.

The romance was cute too. The interactions between the ML and MC were quite funny sometimes.

Would have loved some extras tho. Definitely worth the read.

5 stars!

I love the hidden identity aspect and the short read (<100 chapters) made this a quick enjoyment. And although it was short, there was enough world building and the characters were also well fleshed out. I liked MC and his interactions with ML and the rest of the team and the rest of the mutants.

Background that I didn't expect between MC and ML: ... more>>
Spoiler

I thought that they were childhood friends or something but turns out, they met after MC was already a mutant and ML is fully aware of it so at least no angst in that regard. However, ML was unaware of MC's shape-shifting (or age-shifting?) abilities. In fact, there is a 10 year age gap (MC older). The "death" misunderstanding was a bit cliché but it fit the story and I have no complaints about it.

[collapse]

I liked how there was a logical explanation to MC's actions like
Spoiler

why he didn't just straight up tell ML from the start who he was.

[collapse]
And the code naming of the mutants was also a very nice world building touch. It's also fascinating to see the differing opinions the mutants have on humans (from willing to cooperate to totally distrustful).

Just a lingering thought that I'm not sure was totally addressed:
Spoiler

I would think that MC was immortal since he died once already, became a zombie then became a mutant but I'm pretty sure he said somewhere in the book that he will live another 70 or so years (like a normal person?) ? So are they not immortal? Hmm

[collapse]

Overall, a solid read hitting the right spots for entangled past, hidden identity and sweet romance. <<less

The story is so nice! Only 59 chapters but the plot is perfectly conveyed. I love the fluffiness, light erotism, and slight drama in the story. Definitely worth it to read.

A good story, with some fun hijinks, and a heartwarming romance with a little bit of spice.

Aside from the initial deception that’s the premise of the whole thing, minimal misunderstandings and no unnecessary melodrama. Characters are all pretty well-developed and distinct, even the side ones.

... more>> While the actual romance was brief, I thought there was a good amount of longing throughout, especially on the ML’s side, so I had no issues.

As for the ending, I honestly didn’t mind. It was open-ended, but really I don’t think it needed to be wrapped up perfectly, and you kind of get the sense that “ah, the hardest part is over, and they’ll be living day by day like this for the rest of their lives.” Yes there were a lot of unresolved things, but I think it honestly worked. It also really would’ve been an issue to wrap it up I think because:

Spoiler

If the author was really committed to wrapping it up, they’d have to resolve the whole “mutant discrimination” issue, as well as the additional “how to explain jiang tong is actually a grown man to literally everyone on the coastal base” issue as well. I feel like the story has committed itself to a pretty realistic and slightly grim depiction of the post-apocalyptic world, and neither of these things could be resolved quickly or neatly in that case. And there definitely would be some characters unable to accept either of those things. And to write maybe a paragraph at the end of the story that briefly summarizes that “they fix the world and human-mutant relations were fixed etc” would be doing it a disservice as well. It’s not as thought they’ve fixed the apocalypse or human inequality either.

Some people may be dissatisfied with the ending, but I think it was very sweet. In a post-apocalyptic world, sometimes it is enough to just hold on tightly to the ones that you love, and that is a happy ending enough.

"Wow, this novel is off the charts!

It's funny, fluffy, and not too heavy on the drama, which is a nice change of pace.

I loved the hidden identity twist and the fact that it's a quick read (under 100 chapters).

... more>> Even though it's short, the author does a great job of building the world and making the characters feel real.

I especially enjoyed the MC's interactions with the ML and the rest of the team.

If you're looking for a fun and easy read with a tangled past, a hidden identity, and a sweet romance, this is the perfect book for you!" <<less

Partial star off for rather abrupt ending, but it wasn't too bad. At least it was an ending XD

Generally well written- haven't really seen this spin on an apocalypse novel, nor how we're starting at this stage in time. Really liked the lack of real dog-blooded drama <3

An unique apocalypse setting with POV of a mutant zombie. It's quite lighthearted and pleasant read. Both the main leads are lovely. And I adore the mutant squad.

It's a bit pity that it ended so quickly, I would love to read more.

It ended so bizarrely abrupt without even making progress towards the resolution of the main conflict between the leads' different identities. It was emphasized so many times too, how mutants and humans can't coexist in peace, but then the story ends just as they officially get together.

If the author wanted this to be a simple love story, then they shouldn't have introduced so many issues like post-apocalypse inequality and justice, strained relationship between humans & mutants, the loneliness & isolation of mutants, etc. The story touched on so many things... more>> but nothing came full circle or even close to it.

The other aspects were actually pretty good and there were signs that the plot should be progressing further. The ending actually felt like it should have been the middle part, or the part heading towards the climax or something. I don't know, the ending was just so jarring. <<less

ML n MC lost contact because ML thought that MC died. MC though ML didn't want to have contact w MC anymore.

A thing that I love about this how older mutants have realistic world view. Compared to the new mutant who is still visionary and have high hopes. It's just much more realistic. I also like how MC isn't a brain dead everything n everyone are nice type of bottom.

Cons : what romance?? Would be cuter reading about a brooding grumpy person taking care of a child but that might be my parents issue showing up

All in all, it's a nice read and worth the time <<less

This seems like a story that will be going deep. The writing is quite well done, but I'm current not in the mood for complexity LOL just want to turn off my brain and enjoy junk, so I decided to temporarily put this down until I'm in a better mood for it.

Main Premise: An extinction event turns a majority of people into zombies and radiation covers the earth — making things all the more miserable. This novel is set several years after the advent of the apocalyptic event, everyone has... more>> kind of settled into a status quo. I liked it, it is not a complex story, it has a very simple plot, but I liked so much the muted ones, were like a family and I would like to know more about them. An extra or something would be amazing، but I'm ok with the story.

It simple، and short، doesn't have too much drama, the characters were 9/10.

I will recommend this story if you don't know what to read or if you just want to spend the time, if you like complex plots, drama and a close... more>> ending this story is not for you.
