When kindness becomes idiotic, benevolence becomes useless, violence shows strength, and cowardice disguises itself as reason, beauty is destined to be trampled and destroyed.

The 327 major criminal case came to an end, and this matter completely became a knot in Pei Qinghuai’s heart.

He suspended his duties and became a specially appointed psychological counselor at the Public Security University one year later. Five years later, the director of separation in Beilin once again invited Pei Qinghuai to cooperate in handling the case, and he started a special and tacit contest with Cheng Ye, the then captain of the criminal police brigade.

In the deserted back mountain, a heavy rain occurred, and unknown and tragic corpses appeared one after another.

A female corpse died unjustly, and it seemed that everyone was hiding some secret.

A female internet celebrity died in a live broadcast, but netizens cheered?

……

Pei Qinghuai, who was invited to participate in the case, was on the way to cooperate with Cheng Ye. Case 327, which had been closed for six years, unexpectedly resurfaced…

Loved reading the novel itself- plot pacing was great, characters were fun, cases were interesting and bring up a lot of things to consider. It does feel like the start of a forensics series where Pei Qinghuai is integrating into the team and they're starting to solve cases together only to have links to an old case surface. Novel has 2 main characters we follow (no CP) as they work with the rest of the team to solve cases. Author doesn't go too much into technical details, so they might... more>> feel a little OP, but there's a lot of small details here and there that I really appreciate.

Only, there should be warning somewhere that the novel is ended, but "plot" just started TT. Checked the original site and it doesn't look like the author is working on a sequel right now but heads up, it's a cliff hanger ending (after wrapping up a case). <<less

I'm going to go in the opposite direction from other reviewers - this read a lot like an amateur writer trying hard to be like Silent Reading and failing miserably. The big case that Pei Qinghuai was barely introduced if at all. Reading, unlike watching a movie relies heavily on imagination and if we don't have enough description of this major event that changed a character's life then there's no connection to them. Any reference to the case just feels forced.

Then the actual cases: the premise is good but again... more>> the same problem of inadequate description. The psychology part of it sounded like something picked out of a cliche Holywood police drama. The dialogues between the team members, interrogations, the evil criminals... just weak. I wish they'd just gone with a simple police drama.

Disappointing. <<less

I honestly came here for answers, because I was so confused with how the story ended, but I see for now, there are just no answers to give.

Anyhow, I would still like to say that I really enjoyed reading this novel. The plot had a tendency to pull me in and I was invested the whole time. The characters were my favorite aspect. While reading I could feel how their opinions change of each other (mostly MC and ML) or how there are already on-going relationships with-in the investigation group,... more>> which seemed so genuine. And so did the interactions, so there are a few laughs along the way.

I would also like to say that I anticipated it to be slow burn, but I didn't expect there to be no burn at all, so if you are looking for a police/detective romance, look further cause this is not really it. If there wasn't any tag that would suggest it was romance, I would say I really love the friendship that developed over time and how they really started caring for one one another as time progressed. EDIT: (i just checked out the author and this novel is under a category no CP, also this is the tag: One Thousand and One Pages of No CP Writing, I'm going to cry now, bye)

My main problem being with this novel, why did they have to make the end feel like I just read one half of the book and the other somebody just tore out. It feel so unfinished, like as if somebody hang up on you during a juicy gossip session.

i still loved reading it nonetheless, so I'm not too mad, it was a good one. <<less

I'll agree with KaelynC and will elaborate a little bit more to caution anyone who wants to read this.

It's a part of a series and this is only the 1st installment, that does not have a resolution on the main case. Its short, with case-chapters with the background being the older case. So readers beware.

I ll start by saying that the summary is somewhat misleading as I thought it was the 2nd book since it talks about the old case. (I searched to see if there is any other... more>> novel by this author)

Anyways, I'm a big MM crime reader with Josh Lanyon being my favourite so this was a nice read. It was great that the profiler, ML, was "human" and could be like how would I know ? Quite refreshing, tbh.

The MC also wasn't the typical stoic cop, but showed he is funny and sensitive.

The shortness though of the novel, couldn't bring the potential of the story out and thought it was a bit lacking.

Maybe as soon as the series is concluded it will be an amazing read.

Short note, the romance part hasn't even appeared yet. <<less

tho I'm not sure if it's really complete or not, but let's focus on this part first.

Well this is not my first time reading a novel like this, if you read Mo Du, after seeing "Dostoevsky" and those old cases resurfacing again, you would definitely choose to read this, and well it didn't disappoint me, I love the dynamic between our male leads and their team, and those cases really made me question humanities capabilities and capacity to do evil and conscience, so yup, it is indeed a good... more>> novel to read, how I wish I could read more tho, but nevertheless I enjoy it. Thank you. <<less
