Hi Master, Little Mermaid Will Support You!

Mermaid number 55 was abandoned by his master.

Before he fainted from hunger, he was finally sold off at a rock-bottom price by a fishmonger.

According to the fishmonger, his second master had a severely damaged mental seascape and was a poor, destitute individual who could only afford a second-hand mermaid like number 55 with weak soothing abilities.

Number 55: Oh no, I’m going to starve again,wū wū…

However, not only did this master give him a beautiful name, “MuMu,” but he also fed him high-grade nutrient fish food every meal and rubbed his tail with brand-name mermaid care cream.

MuMu was raised to be fair and plump, but he never saw his new master enjoy any delicacies. To support him, his new master even worked like a 007 agent, day and night…

MuMu decided: I will use my special skills and work hard to support the family!

***

The inability of humans and mermaids to communicate is a perplexing problem that plagues the entire interstellar human race.

Only mermaids can soothe the turbulent mental seascapes of humans. Even if they are inexplicably scratched or bitten by their own mermaids, they have to endure it. After all, who can understand what the mermaids are complaining about?

But one day, the first interstellar “Mermaid Simultaneous Interpretation” livestream appeared…

The streamer was a fair-skinned young man with clear eyes and a unique voice: “For just a small gift, you can connect and get simultaneous interpretation, it’s very cheap!”

The barrage scoffed: [Where did this scammer streamer come from? Such a low-level trick to get gifts, only a fool would try it!]

After the trial “fool” appeared, the streamer listened to his family’s mermaid screeching and accurately translated:

“She says she’s afraid of c*ckroaches, and every time she sees one, she scratches you twice out of frustration. She suggests a thorough pest control treatment for your home.”

[Holy crap! After I exterminated the bugs in my house, my mermaid really stopped scratching me!]

[What!? I’ll send a cruise ship, streamer, connect with me first!]

[Is he a god? The entire interstellar world is finally saved!]

MuMu closed the livestream, switched back to his mermaid form, counted the earnings in his livestream account, and happily flicked the tip of his tail:

I can support Master now!

***

After failing in mental seascape guidance, a certain admiral, forced to retire from the battlefield, re-entered the workforce and single-handedly built the largest mermaid supply chain industry in the interstellar world.

He didn’t care how many digits were in his account, only whether his obedient little mermaid liked the company’s products.

One day, an anonymous account suddenly transferred money to him with the message: Have a good meal today!

The extremely wealthy admiral: ?

A super sweet and light story just my type. It really doesn’t require any mental effort, and it doesn’t leave your heart feeling heavy.

The main character is adorable and loves taking care of the male lead, and the ML is always looking after him too he’s super powerful. The villain doesn’t have much presence, which is fine.

At one point, I got worried because I read a review that mentioned time travel, and I thought maybe the ML would die or something dark would happen that would push the MC to... more>> go back in time. But it turned out to be something really soft and sweet that just explained why ML started his company. I didn’t need that explanation, but it was a nice touch.

As for side characters, I only found the butler kind of cute. It’s a nice story if you don’t feel like thinking too much. I’d read it again. <<less

Looking for a light story that's easy to digest with no heavy plot? This book might be for you.

I gave this book 4 stars based on how I interpreted the writer’s intention when crafting the story and the translation quality.

When I started reading, I was in the mood for something sci-fi with a heavy plot and complex storytelling, the kind that makes you think and analyze the characters and twists. Still, I decided to give this one a try.

After reading 75 chapters, I can say this story is quite light,... more>> easy to follow, and quick to read. No angst, no complicated plot, no deep character backgrounds, and not much character development.

Story-wise, it felt like the author wanted to add more “spice” to the plot, but the spices didn’t quite blend in, leaving the story feeling a bit undercooked. Some plot points and backgrounds seemed like they were added halfway through writing, as if the author thought, “Oh! This might be a good idea to include, ” but still wanted to keep the story short. As a result, some plot elements felt incomplete, left unexplained, or were resolved in an unsatisfying way.

The story mainly revolves around the MC. The ML and side characters didn’t have much presence for me, and even the villains weren’t fully explored.

To be honest, I kept telling myself to give it a chance, I almost dropped it a few times because it just lacked depth, but in the end, I gave up after 75 chapters. <<less

It's really cute story.

MC is naive and silly because he's not human. But he's still fairly smart. ML isn't just emotionless and cold. He tries his best for MC. Much of the humor is because of cross-species relationship misunderstanding and miscommunication- ie. One of the on-going jokes is that MC thinks ML is poor. Honestly the misunderstanding/miscommunication is what keeps the story going but it wasn't frustrating. The story mainly focuses on MC navigating living with ML and trying to make money. He's also a special type of deep sea... more>> mermaid. The antagonist of the story is fairly clear from the start - it's the laboratory behind the mermaid research center, specifically professor Yin (I believe that's his name). The plot is very succinct and we get a minor buildup and a somewhat satisfying conclusion. Story is just long enough to be satisfying. <<less

1.5 stars: Dropped at chapter 11, the novel is just way too shallow and lacking in description or common sense. I'm not sure the nonsensical things could even be plausibly explained later and there's not enough of anything interesting or engaging to keep me reading to find out because I literally don't care. Gave it a half star because the attempt to have plot was enough to make me curious and keep reading a few more chapters, but ultimately it became clear it's just too poorly written for me to... more>> continue wasting my time.

The story tries so hard to be funny with the MC mermaid MuMu misunderstanding that his owner is poor and wanting to save him money, and lamenting whenever his owner Wen Ming buys him things as MuMu thinks Wen Ming can't afford to do so—but it gets old fast. I think the problem is that neither character is established beyond generic cliché details: Wen Ming is the prototypical cold/stonefaced gong, while MuMu has a vaguely repeatedly hinted-at background of being ab*sed in a lab for some reason and then was dumped in the mermaid center (?), but his whole character revolves around misunderstanding his owner as poor, wanting to help him out somehow, wanting to eat fish food, and... that's it, really. They have no chemistry at all. And despite there being sections from Wen Ming's POV, I literally know almost nothing about his thoughts or motivations or even likes or dislikes after 11 whole chapters. He's just a prop for the story because the story is BL and there must be a gong.

There's barely even physical description of either of them, the most we get is mentioning that MuMu is blue and has "scars" on his tail, and Wen Ming is, uh, I'm not even sure he's physically described beyond being a big guy, and even that might just be my imagination based on his very generic "cold robotic military official gong" archetype. There's a distinct lack of physical description going on in the entire story—not just visuals, but every other sense as well. It's a textbook example of "told, not shown", and it makes the story both unclear and boring.

MuMu is very animalistic in his behavior and understandings but in a way that's more weird than cute: eating/licking food directly out of his owner's palm, eating anything that looks like a fish, saying "awoo" and howling, urging his owner to pet him by nuzzling his hand, like he's pretty much a dog most of the time. He's (supposedly) sapient/intelligent, but he doesn't really understand human society and has a limited grasp of human things despite being able to understand human language—but it's weird because he understands things like getting sued and taken to court, but he doesn't understand that a random piece of metal isn't actually money, and supposedly he was captured out of the ocean and directly taken to a shady research lab for abusive experimentation and from there was dumped out for sale, so how exactly did he learn these things?

It's sort of just taken for granted that he wants to be a good pet to his supposedly poverty-stricken owner and wants to help him make money, because... he's grateful to him for buying him? Or because his owner needs mental soothing? It's neither particularly clear nor particularly emotional. It seriously just feels like it's because the plot demands it.

It's a bit weird how the text refers to MuMu as "it", which I assume is a translation choice. What isn't a translation choice is how weird the story is with minor but significant water details, like how mermaids can smell food in the air despite being underwater (lol yeah right) and discernably hear speech while also being underwater (I suppose this is barely possible if mermaids have super amazing hearing but still seems questionable). This crops up in many mermaid/underwater stories I've read and it makes me wonder if the authors have never gone swimming in their lives or even ducked their heads underwater while taking a bath.

Another issue is that there's frequently no sense of time in the story. Often I was confused as to how much time had passed, as it seemed like Wen Ming had just gotten MuMu, only for the story to suddenly say that MuMu's scars had completely healed thanks to the ointment treatment, and I was like, WTF I thought it had only been a few days! Other times I couldn't even tell what time of day it was as characters seemed to just exist and act within a timeless void, punctuated only by Wen Ming leaving the mermaid room or suddenly mentioning that MuMu went to sleep.

There's also not really a sense of place—there's very little description of physical settings and surroundings, not even rooms or buildings. Because the story also often lacks real transitions, it'll go from the CP being at home/in the mermaid room (literally have no idea what the rest of Wen Ming's mansion is like since it's never described, we only ever see him interacting with MuMu in the mermaid room that is also barely described) to suddenly being at the aquarium for a mermaid competition, with no mention of preparation for said competition, no details about how they traveled there, and very little description of what the aquarium looks like or who else is present beyond vaguely mentioning "The participating mermaids had almost all arrived, and the aquarium was quite lively with them gathered together" (Chapter 9). Uh, hello? Maybe describe the actual scene?

The origin of the mermaids is strange too. The story frequently mentions that mermaids can't survive in the ocean by themselves and a big point is made about how unusual MuMu is because he's a rare/unique wild-caught mermaid, but uh, where did mermaids come from originally if not "wild" in the oceans? The story also makes a point that mermaids don't hunt or eat live fish, though they definitely eat fish-shaped snacks and "fishy snacks" and dried fish (it is unclear if they eat raw fresh fish) as well as seaweed and shrimp at the very least so... that's kind of weird too. Things are so underdescribed and token-described that I wonder if I missed something in the beginning, but at this point I don't care enough to go back and reread.

Additionally, the story is very similar on many levels to I Was Raised After Being a Mermaid, albeit without the transmigration and there are a lot of differences—but the number of similarities is uncomfortable beyond allowing for genre-similarities. Like, I know interstellar healer-mermaids is a genre but the actual setting and some of the character stuff were still way too similar. Things do develop differently on a few fundamentals, but every now and then another "huh that's awfully similar" thing would crop up.

Both stories involve a special/unique blue mermaid healer shou hiding his unusual intelligence and unique ability to understand humans, who is bought by a wealthy renowned military gong owner in very bad psychic condition who has so far not found a good mermaid to heal him. The mermaid is brought home to a prepared empty "mermaid room" with a pool where the gong feeds him to gain his trust, and the mermaid decides to become a really good money-saving pet for him in gratitude, in a setting where mermaids are regarded as unintelligent and aggressive, and are bred by a mermaid industry in order to mentally soothe humans and are priced (and coveted) according to grade. The gong has only one close BFF who is more upbeat, has his own mermaid, and exists to give him someone to talk to about his mermaid while also providing comic relief.

Mermaids also don't understand that they're pets to humans and consider humans to be their servants/pets, and think that the food given to them is tribute. They also think humans are s*upid and slow, calling them "leggers" (it's "two-legged beasts" in I Was Raised). All this is explained to the mermaid shou by the gong's BFF's mermaid, who is the self-assured aggressive type. Mermaids are supposedly simple and unintelligent in general, and humans can't understand them and don't think they can communicate.

And that's just the similarities that cropped up within 11 chapters. Hmm.

Granted, there are differences, as mentioned earlier. The gong is actually ex-military (he had to retire because he was too psychically damaged) and runs a company that makes goods for mermaids rather than being the commander of the arm as well as the emperor, and his BFF has a wife and kid rather than being another bachelor.

MuMu is special because he's actually not a normal mermaid, he's a legendary hunter mermaid creature, and he has to hide this for some reason. The plot seems like it's going to focus on whatever he is, and the shady researcher who captured and ab*sed him trying to get him back because he's suddenly re-convinced that MuMu is this legendary hunter sea creature just like he first thought—but like, why did he give up so easily and just dump MuMu for sale at the Mermaid Center only to suddenly go crazy trying to re-test MuMu after he was sold to someone else? Oh, it's because the plot demanded it, okay, sure.

Yeah, I didn't care for this novel. I Was Raised After Being a Mermaid has a very different plot but it's much better-written with more solid world-building and fleshed-out (if still archetypical) characters. I recommend you read it instead and give this novel a pass. <<less

It's really cute and fluffy but I have mixed feelings about the CP.

My tolerance for inter-species cps is rather high, but MC behaved so much like an actual pet that ML getting a boner for him is... yeah. MC's technically an adult, but because he was kept in captivity as a child, his emotional intelligence isn't very high. Since MC was acting based on his animal (Mermaid?) instincts going "Awoo Awoo" around ML, ML falling for him lowkey felt like beastiality (Sorry ML I had to say it).

That said, this... more>> novel isn't very deep so a few eyes were closed in that aspect. There were some plotpoints that made me confused like

but it's not a big issue. Very light-hearted and relatively short. I like how Mumu integrates himself into human society and how there isn't much drama despite having a main villain. It's mostly about his cute relationship with his caretaker. Reccomended as a read to pass time. <<less

I love cute characters and I didn't feel like our MC was particularly dumb at all. He's just not human and a little naive and if you're comfortable with non human protagonists that should be fine.

If you like cute adorable stories, a simple and not too heavy plot then give it a try!

I absolutely enjoyed this, and if it wasn't for life responsibilities like work, etc, I would've finished this in a day.

The story was actually so sooo sweet in my opinion, from the first meeting to falling in love. I really don't see what some comments are saying that this novel feels like "falling in love with your pet, " as I don't believe ML treated MC as a pet to begin with. There was already mutual respect from the moment they met (and initial attraction). I love how clumsy and... more>> adorable they are when they figure out their feelings, as they try to understand the concept and idea of interspecies relationship in this universe. But I think this quote defines this novel perfectly:

You see, when two completely different planets get so close, they’re likely to collide, destroying the entire star system.

The entire interstellar world was in a panic. But unexpectedly, they didn’t harm each other.

Miraculously, the two planets began to orbit each other, as if willingly becoming each other’s moons, forever protecting each other.

They formed a unique entity, reflecting the light of the star, which is what we see as the twin blue moons at night.

No matter how much humans investigated and measured, they couldn’t explain this phenomenon. It’s an interstellar marvel... ”

The MC (MuMu) I think was super adorable. I usually tend to hate "baby protags" but this novel became an exception, mainly because they don't depict him as "baby dumb". MC is super strong, but all the same, super adorable! I found him so cute in literally everything he did - especially when he interacts with other mermaids.

ML is literally probably the strongest character in this interstellar system, an absolute god of war. But what I loved was the contrast to how he is around MC. The devotion, deep respect and love he has for him I literally felt since the beginning and it just kept getting sweeter. And also seeing ML's possessiveness and protectiveness towards MC - super cute.

Lastly, I really enjoyed the "secret identity" aspect of this novel, especially towards the ML eventually finding about MC's human form as a streamer.

An overall lovely, and an absolutely delightful read.

Highly recommend. <<less

The beginning was good, but after the villain was caught, it got boring. There are no other antagonists apart from the professor. If this protagonist's clan is in danger and therefore hiding - why is there only one villain? So a single professor is supposed to threaten several powerful things at once? Sure, I understand that they can't do anything about the net, but still: have the other clan members never thought of doing anything or making a plan? I also don't understand how the clan was decimated to such... more>> an extent in the first place. It doesn't make much sense to me. Nevertheless: because the story was sweet, I give it 4 stars. <<less

Super fluffy and lighthearted, no angst. Romance is barely there. Tons of doting for sure, but I don’t necessarily equate that to romance since it feels like how a parent treats their child.

Personally, I don’t totally love super naive, childish characters but at least in this story the MC isn’t useless. I would have rated it lower but the story is written in a way that makes the usual cliche things not bother me. It’s like the MC deserves all the sweetness after all he’s been through.

Fluffy cute healing story. Light comedic slice-of-life, no drama. Very silly.

Read this if you need to recover from something serious.

Agree with the other reviewer that the ML falling for the MC could have been done better but at least...

wasn’t super necessary, felt like they answered a question I wasn’t aware I was suppose to have. Since the story started on the premise the ML had damaged his mental seascape, I took that at face value and looked no deeper.

I enjoyed every character. I liked the MC’s streaming job. Some “face slapping” parts weren’t like the most gratifying, but they don’t linger too long and they don’t serve a purpose in the story.

This is really good. Author did not drag out anything. Like other reviews, plot is based on like misunderstanding and miscommunication but the blow out fit in every scene and never fail to deliver.

One line review is

This story is cute, fluffy but not entirely light, but subtle and suitable plotline, short and solid, characters wise and interesting.

Ohhh this is SOOOO Goooood!!!

I don't think there's anything wrong with this novel... Except of course the Villain. He's the dirt and I need them gone for good!

Anyway this is absolutely Fluff and Comedy. Adorkable Cute story with Lovable Characters!

... more>> Hyper and Cute naive MC. Doting Protective Caring ML. And all the supporting characters are gooood. The interaction between our CP with others all fun to read. The Secretary/Assistant Xu's pov. The Mother of ML. And all the Mermaids. Enjoyable to read!

Of course I also feel both Funny and Pained at the same time by the Miscommunication between MC and ML because their Language barrier. Though MC understand all the Human words, ML who doesn't know MC's full secret can only guess what MC tried to convey. Which amazingly he can guess right most of time.
