An unexpected read that ended up taking up my entire night despite its short 28 chapter length, it's a pretty refreshing story. Our two protagonist are Xiao Yichi, a war-zone reporter and journalist, and Yu Zhinian an extremely handsome big shot lawyer who meet on a blind date set up by their two aunties (older women who are extremely close to them, neither of them are related or actually aunts to MC or ml). Due to YZN's prejudice and high standards, he automatically disregards XYC as just a plain, low... more>> class worker coming back from overseas. Dismissive of XYC's lack of good looks and assumed low class job, YZN sets up four meetings to get their aunties off their backs and then part ways. Jokes on YZN though, XYC's an incredible talented, highly acclaimed journalist and makes YZN eat his damn words.

What's kinda unique about Xiao Yichi is that he actually isn't that attractive, his face is said to be really plain though his body is fantastic. Instead of his face, his appeal comes from his personality and his experience as a war-zone reporter causes him to have a really unique view of life. A lot of people are in love with XYC and YZN himself notes several times how there's not a single person who's met XYC that hates him. XYC doesn't wallow in self-pity about his looks either, he cheers up quickly when down and is very decisive when it comes time to make a decision. It's also kinda rare to find a story where YZN action's are realistic and rational. Finds out XYC has ptsd? Sends XYC to therapy. XYC is drugged? Call the police and bring XYC to the hospital. Wants to attract XYC's attention? Purposefully sign up to the same gym as him. No "loves trumps trauma", "we slept together by accident" or "Surprise we have accidentally run into each other 57 times, is this fate?" plot magic. Both do an equal amount of chasing each other and it's pretty refreshing how there's not a lot of "me? Like him? I could never!!!" moments (there's a few but it's short and not very long)

If there was one thing to complain about it's the fact that due to the short amount of chapters the story focuses mostly on YZN's past and his character growth of looking past appearances and reputation, thus XYC has a lot of potential characterization that's lost. For example his ptsd is pretty much dealt off screen and never brought up again, his past experiences as a journalist/reporter isn't really elaborated much and his past with a guy named Qin Shan is severely neglected. In fact Qin Shan, a very powerful official in their world, is hinted about in the early chapters to be a love rival only to appear at the very end for one scene and that's it with very little about their past.

Nonetheless, this story was a really lovely read focused mostly on character growth with no actual antagonists. It could have done with a couple more chapters but has it's own unique aspects like one of the main characters being quite plain (rare in a sea of "MC is the prettiest, hottest thing to walk the earth" stories), while having really simple messages like "you can't judge a book by it's cover" or "beauty isn't everything". Even YZN has his own hidden aspects, he loves Snoopy! This handsome, intimidating, big shot lawyer is a Snoopy fan!!! <<less

Unlike the other reviewers, I thought this story was decently written, but s*upid and with pretentious writing style. Translation is fairly good though.

I only finished this story because it was short and I wanted to give it a chance. But the characters and the way they fall in love isn't realistic, but too exaggerated. MC is this super duper amazing character who can end an international hostage situation, has insanely rich and powerful friends, is also just the nicests guy (according to author, I found him s*upid as he only... more>> falls for ML because he's hot) - his one flaw is that he's average-looking. I guess this works as wish-fullfilment for some readers, since he snatches the hot a desirable (supposedly, I found the ML's personality to be so bland I didn't get why so many people - MC included - wanted him) big shot rich laywer ML.

The whole thing with the ML's ex felt contrived, just meant to highlight how the MC 'won' despite being an average joe (which he wasn't, he's this super cultured, intelligent, skilled, good in bed kind of guy with lots of insanely influential friends).

And the author glossed over the fact that the ML r*ped

his ex, just because he couldn't handle being broken up with. Why is this guy considered a catch, even by the ex who got r*ped? Why are his actions excused?

I rolled my eyes and could barely continue reading.

The MC's pursuit of the ML was s*upid. If a guy keeps telling you in no uncertain terms that he doesn't like your looks and has zero feelings for you, back off. I don't care how many weird things he does to take care of you behind the scenes, when an adult person has such major emotional hangups, any sane person would back off instead of trying to pursue someone who's incapable of dealing with their own feelings.

Futhermore, the MC and ML had little in common and no chemistry, so them falling in love made no sense.

The so-called 'poetic parts' felt mostly like the author trying to write something deep as a substitute for lack of reasonable plot and characters. <<less

I cried so much.....

The shou is just so strong, adorable, smart, and kind-hearted. I wish there are more novels like this where the characters are just plain-looking ppl but have other outstanding qualities where their merits are not just skin-deep.

The story goes on at a nice pace... there are old flames, old pains, old lover, and etc. but the CP remain sensible and mature. Once it's completely translated, I'll re-read it again since the raws I was reading does not have the 3 extra chaps

I started reading "His Honey" after skimming through a lot of books and not being able to settle to one. It had 25 main chapters and 3 extras, a quick read; so it was perfect for a time pass, is what I thought. But after spending a whole day of reading without being able to put it down even for a second and finally finishing, I am moved to tears with the story.

First of all, I am a fan of angsty stories. This story started with the MC and ML... more>> disliking each other somewhat to a higher level so I expected a lot of angst. However, the flow of the story, development of their relationship and the character growth made me forget all I came for and I was so ready to settle for whatever that is offered by the author. And what interested me more was the choice of the character backgrounds.

I wouldn't hesitate to label this as one of the best books I have read. I would even go as far to call this an underrated gem. I hope many people will read this and will enjoy just as I did.

I love both the MC and the ML. One of the strong and likable couples I have seen in the stories I have read so far. <<less

WOW! That was good!

From chapter 1-11, I've been contemplating who is the shou and who is the gong. Lol. It's my first time reading a novel where both parties are willing to be a shou even if they are used to be a gong.

This story is so so good! The smut~ the drama~ everything is just so good. Unfortunately it's to short and in regards to XY work and illness was really not highlighted. The ending part was such a cliffhanger T_T

honestly, I'm hesitating between 3 and 4 stars. While I definitely enjoyed the story a lot, I don't think it will really stick with me for long.

maybe I had too high expectations after only hearing amazing things about it but it just wasn't THAT extraordinary to me? Overall I mean.

i don't think there was a single second I rooted for the ml, like sure I wanted them to be together but now, thinking back, I can't say even one thing I love about him as a character.

The nuances and the subtle emotions are captured beautifully and the translator has done an excellent job of transferring them to English. Thanks for translating this. It is a delight to read.

Woah... this was actually really good. I'm genuinely shock because it's short and labeled smut so I expected it to be brain-rot but it was actually really good. I really wish it was longer so we can get more backstory on the characters.

Tried to be deep at times, but didn't quite get there. MC was a bit of a Gary Stu. ML's reaction to his ex breaking up with him was straight out of a 90s era yaoi manga. Despite the flaws, I enjoyed it. Smut wasn't bad.

I LOVED it!!! It was difficult to come across books which is really good and hence I got bored and turned off the reading part of me for a few months and after coming back the first novel I picked up was this and it was a Brilliant Surprise... there is no dog blood drama just 2 people in love and a matured storyline... they navigated their issues properly and the leads knew what they wanted and just went for it... My heart would randomly start aching while I read this novel, just for how real the characters felt and how much I could relate to their struggles. I love the MC so much, with all his insecurities and yet simultaneously blazing confidence. He's suffered and gone through unspeakable trauma, but still has such a fervor for life that shines through his entire being. He feels some level of attraction to ML from the start, and despite most of this feeling being squashed by ML's personality, MC does still care about... more>> ML's impression of him. It's a very vague mentality though, and MC doesn't linger or waste his time ruminating, allowing ML the time to see just how wrong he was in his first impression.

ML starts off pretty unlikable, but he definitely grew on me a lot over the course of the novel. It really is so interesting seeing how his initial impression of MC as being not attractive or successful enough for him is slowly overturned, and he really starts to fall for MC in every way. Despite not being physically attracted to MC at the start, there's no denying that his lust for MC is fully genuine by the time they first become physically intimate, and the attraction he eventually feels measures much deeper than just the surface level of appearances.

I really loved the slow buildup of feelings, and the s*xual tension and chemistry between the leads is so palpable. Their first time had me cracking up though:

the fact that they've both only ever been the gong and never the shou but were also both willing to give up their ass v*rginity to the other haha! I really loved how much they talked it out before getting into it.

Also the cond*m being "too small" for MC is too funny because is ML smaller than MC down there or does he just own cond*ms for fingering purposes hahaha

The novel kind of glosses over it but ML does lowkey stalk MC for a good bit by sticking his lawyer resources on tracking MC's every move. I honestly didn't feel it was as creepy as maybe I should have felt? It's partly done to protect MC, but all those photos really aren't necessary for that- another case of attractive people getting away with anything perhaps?? MC doesn't really mind ML popping up inexplicably around him at the very least, so it's not really an issue in the end.

I'll also add that the smut in this made me laugh with the phrasing sometimes... when ML's d*ck got referred to as a "weapon" or "pestle" I think I died lol <<less

Honestly, their whole push and pull situation is kinda... hurting me, I cried a lot it's so frustrating, though it is a very well written story nonetheless.

If you don't want to get angsty over ML still have a little feelings over his ex, be prepared.

All good in the end, just that I can't shake off the uncomfortable feelings about the ML & his ex situation.

There's a reason it's so highly rated. Though it's only 28 chapters, there is a full and touching story being told. I cried several times; sometimes from sadness, sometimes from joy. It's definitely worth the few hours it takes to read!!

I love this story so so much. I am very bad at writing reviews but it’s the worth time/tears you spend on it.

MC is a such a cutie I Adore him and I wish I could hug him and tell him your face doesn’t matter darling, you as a person are a dazzling star.

ML I kindda disliked him at first but he grows on you.

Realistic part of the novel that I lOVED- how this story talks about mental health that you need a medical intervention it’s not cured by LOVE.... more>> The criminal are handed over the police. Drugged person should be taken to hospital instead of having S€X as we see/read in most of the novels.

overall it will forever remain my fav novel of all time. I wanted to thank you author for this amazing work and also the translator for you valuable time and effort on this beautiful story. <<less

I just want to stand and applaud. Applaud the author for as long as I can, until my hands turn sour. This.. This book really went through ny entire heart. It's so rich. I just feel like breaking into tears and keep praising the author for such a wonderful, mindblowing, thought provoking, rich piece of insightful and knowledgeable GEM. I loved the novel — the plot, the characters especially Xiao Yichi. He was a breath of fresh air, not your typical gorgeous main character that everyone falls in love with at first sight. I really appreciate how the author made him beautiful through the scars he earned and the trauma he had to go through after being a war correspondent. He was poetically-written.

One of the few novels I would give a 10 if I could. And one of the few I would re-read.

Summarized, it's the story of a pompous attorney who is taught the real meaning of life by a seemingly carefree former war correspondent.

But, it's so much more. Poetic. Introspective. Painful.

Our MC is a hidden gem. He's had experiences that the rest of us cannot fully understand, so with that knowledge, is able to teach the ML that he doesn't really know everything. Isn't really 'all that'. And that looks really... more>> don't matter once you've found the value of the person inside.

In addition, their s*xual relationship was the most realistic I've read. It was straightforward and honest. None of that 'hesitant, blushing bride' type idiocy that other authors employ.

The pace is quick if you like reading about the feelings of a mature couple and why they have them.

Thanks to the translator who did an excellent job. I hope to read more from this gifted author. <<less

I don't usually write reviews, but since this novel took me by surprise on how much I f*cking love it (and as there are not much reviews... yet), I will spare some time if it means roping in more readers to read this.

To be frank, the story started a little slow for me and I knew there were only 20+ chapters so I was doubtful that the author is going to seamlessly end the story. However, each chapter are actually pretty lengthy which I think makes up for the short... more>> numbered chapters. So imagine my surprise when I finished reading this and end up loving it so much. Now, I wished there are more extras (I must say that my favourite parts start from the second half and extras).

The MC is a solid 5/5 stars right from the beginning and I love how he stood his ground and did not give a sh*t to the ML. MC has such a refreshing personality that I enjoyed reading his narrative so much. Yes, ML is quite a pile of sh*t in the first half of the story but towards the ending he redeemed his qualities and made it into the 5/5 stars. However, there are reasons for ML bad attitude and it's even more pleasant that ML eventually does realize, learn AND apologized for being shitty to MC. Please be aware that this modern story is mature, pretty light-hearted but there are some deeper undertones, both MC and ML has their flaws but what's important is their growth and how they flourished individually and compliment each other as a couple. Without spoiling too much, there are appearances of exes, past interests, bed partners (this are all of course before they have feelings for each other - heck, MC and ML even became bed partners before having feelings for each other) etc. but these doesn't matter as it only proves how strong the feelings and bond between the MC and ML are. Both MC and ML knows what they want, are pretty decisive and takes action when they need to. There are barely any misunderstanding between them as they actually do f*cking COMMUNICATE, if there are any problems they would solve it together. Like I ATE ALL THIS UP. ML also spoils the sh*t out of MC (I'd say even before they got officially together). And the s*x they have is FIRE f*ckING SPICY. The compatibility is off the charts. So yes, this couple is a solid 5/5 stars for me.

ML proposed to MC with one of the sweetest proposal EVER. AND, they got married and had a wedding celebration. Now, I just need the author to write more extras on their honeymoon *on my knees begging the danmei gods*.
