I need to write this review because this story has been lingering in my mind for days. Also, since I need a visual reference when reading, I usually imagine actors as the characters. Every time I see the actor I imagined as Ze’an, I’m reminded of this story—and the sadness hits me all over again. That’s how much this simple story impacted me.

Honestly, when I first started reading, I doubted how such simple writing could impress so many reviewers. But as I kept going, I realized it only seems simple... more>> because we’re seeing things through Ze’an’s POV. Once that perspective shifts, it’s like the dam breaks. The kindness and simplicity of Ze’an’s POV—his effort to stay positive and gentle to the very end—makes it all the more powerful.

Ah, this really ruined me for other transmigration novels for a while. <<less

You know what, I've never written a review before and so I'm not going to go into the technicalities, I just wanted to say that... I really couldn't blame the ML either.

He never knew the MC long enough to actually know the real him. His shallow knowledge of MC's personality, hobbies, likes, dislikes etc., led him to think that the fake MC is the real MC...

Just wanna get this out there in case other people want to blame him too.

The parents and his best friend were the most disappointing, however.... more>> The ML has only known him from a distance so it's understandable that he didn't know much about the MC, but the parents? Seriously? You gave birth to him and raised him, your son getting into an accident and waking up with a different personality should have made you cautious, at least, yet from what I can tell, they didn't even bat an eye to his sudden changes. Don't even get me started on the person who should be his best friend.

The fake Ze'an was genuinely trying to be nice tho, but it backfired which is unexpected for both parties, I'm glad he left the life he shouldn't have had because if he had stayed then he'd have been really stealing someone's life.

But at the end tho, I'm glad it ended that way. I feel like it was better that way. MC was welcomed in the Fake MC's life and seemed to be living as happy as he should have with no painful memories obstructing it.

And those who had forgotten remembered, regretted and atoned for their mistakes. I hope they lived for a long time because despite my rational brain telling me all of those above with ML, I'm still ducking salty and want them to regret for a lifetime. Nonetheless, I'd still give this a 5 out if 5 stars. Well done author. <<less

Not a review. Just thought after reading the novel.

There this transmigation novel with MC possessed a villain character that doomed with bad ending. Since MC took over, that doomed fate changed for the better instantly. Later near the end of the story, the original soul come back. It didn't took him 24 hours for harming himself so he can go back to MC's world (MC and the original soul actually switching bodies and their world setting completely different). The og desperately want to get away from his original world by... more>> self-harming, if he can't, he simply prefer death. His reason: he refuse to live a life where no one notice he was gone, even his parent and sibling disappointedly accept the new him without questioning anything. What more for the other; his friends, s*umbag lover. No one realize it was not him when the personality changed drastically. So how little his existent in his og world?

This Og understood better where he best belong. He let go the relationship that shall not be wished or kept. He refuse to prolong the pain that come from lingering expectation. This what I wished Og Ze'an would do.

However, If it happen to me. Someone suddenly take over my body and life. Making everything so much better than the way I live now, I don't think I can accept how those who I love prefer the better me nor capable to unalive myself. So I can't blame Ze'an for not having a strong decision about his life; accept all the good and bad wholly or end it all at once.

I love how the soul that replaced Ze'an didn't continue his acting when taking over Ze'an's body after og Ze'an give up. He stop become Ze'an version of being loyal lover, dutiful son, and wise best friend. Fake Ze'an accepts to take over the body at the end by being true to himself and acknowledge his mistake. He regretfully acknowledged that his good intention instead bring Og Ze'an countless self doubt and depression. I appreciate the author for not making fake Ze'an a hypocrite.

ML purely selfish. He only accepts Ze'an who love him. He said that he love Ze'an as a person not the body. What a joke since he himself didn't know which is the true Ze'an. He only wants Ze'an who is perfect for lover. He doesn't care which soul is the true Ze'an. I prefer they won't be together. Let Og Ze'an & the soul that replaced him live their life like how they want it to be. Have few people who sincerely care about them and a partner who willing to accept their true self. <<less

This novel is the main depiction on why I don't like to read BE novels. I got tempted by the summary and now I'm crying like there's no tomorrow. Ze'an deserved much better, this novel made me self-reflect deeply on what I will do if one day, someone lives in my body and then I come back after 2 years.

I figured that I wouldn't be able to stand it if no one acknowledged me like what happend to Ze'an. It was really sad to read about how Ze'an struggled to be like the fake Ze'an yet everyone was just disappointed in him. Even the ML wanted him gone so the fake Ze'an can return.

First few chapters in, it was already heartbreaking, and all I can say is, Ze'an really needs a hug.

Just few chapters in and now this is suffocating sad.

The result of transmigrating to another person's body with them being still alive, how would that person feel once they come back and see that everyone likes them better when they weren't themself. But I can't blame anyone even the ml, as his whole 3 year relationship was with that person. ML isn't too blame although his way of thinking where he thinks he got replace is kind of weird, usually if someone acts different you can use a mental condition... more>> as a reason. It might be easy to say that he could just move away, abandon everything and start a new life but he needs a sense of belongingness as a newly revive person, he needs an anchor that tells him he is still him and misses him. He is admirable, his optimism and cheerfulness until the end was seriously cool, there isn't any malice and was consistently caring. He was asleep for 3 years but if he didn't he would for sure grew up as sensible as his peers. <<less

I had to put down my phone to breathe in between chapters, a long and deep breath. It was so good that it was suffocating. So painfully good. I already had a different view of transmigration after reading Don't Pick Up Boyfriends... but after reading His Present I don't think I'll ever have a positive outlook reading other transmigration stories in the future. How I love recommending this to those QT readers out there. And also I highly recommend, too, the author's other translated works. All of it hurts so... more>> good. <<less

The premise of this novel is crazy and I've honestly never read anything like it. MC had a transmigrator in his body for 2-3 years and when he returned, everyone disliked the true MC.

It doesn't really make sense how everyone seemed to forget how MC was originally? Like people don't change that much in 2-3 years naturally. Bah don't think too much about the real life logic of this. It's a transmigration story after all.

A thought provoking and sad short read. It’s a concept that I’ve never thought about and brings a new perspective to all those transmigration stories. What happens to the original soul that gets ousted out.. What if they come back to find that none of their loved ones want them anymore and prefer the imposter version?

I wish it was a bit longer.

Any novel by this author is recommended if you just want to bawl your eyes out. I searched for angst and found a knife that tear heart... The author also captured the characters feelings well and to be honest... If the Ji Qin listen to him more maybe everything will change. But that's what's great about this novel. It's frustrating, it's bitter and it make you shed tears. Anyway 5/5 very much recommended

It's very sad and depressing, the MC's despair and helpless jealousy is very much understandable and tangible, but the reaction of his environment which is the cause of his predicament is also. Understandable. However that only makes it more depressing. I deeply empathize with his sadness. He was not appreciated till the end. It's really heartbreaking.

I always think when I read transmigration stories, isn't it unfair to the real one when the fakes show up with different traits and then get everyone's love so easily. The real one must feel disappointed, and they might think, if only I had behaved like that, would I have been loved like that?

And yes, I find it in this story. But, oh my, it's so heartbreaking. My eyes were red from crying throughout the story.

But compared to the author's other works, I didn't hate and blame ML too much.

Basically they didn't interact much, so I think it's acceptable for ML to think the fake Ze'an is the real Ze'an. Although of course I can't forgive him for hurting Ze'an. But I'm more disappointed in his friend and parents, I mean man, you has lived beside him for years. Okay maybe it's because Ze'an's immaturity, but it really hurts.

Just the other day me ans my best friend were discussing how tragic it is then when a person isekais everybody prefers the new version.

And then I read this novel. I'm probably never reading transmigration again. This one was so so sad and tragic. I already guessed the ending and sadly that is exavtly what happened. Probably the BSF, The BF, and the parents are glad that the ending happened.

If you want a short read novel then I highly recommend this tho it's BE but it's really a good read. I cried hard not gonna lie.

This story perfectly (personally) depicted the other side of transmigration. Although most of the transmigration, the true soul really dies but what about the others who didn't but we're swapped with their lives, other who are unwilling? How would they feel, knowing that there's someone living their supposed lives (just thinking about it makes me sad).

I actually heaved a sigh of relief for... more>> the last extra. My heart aches for the MC. After knowing that he's doing well with this new life, I feel genuinely happy. <<less

This story is unique, tbh I haven't seen this kind of pov before.

I've always seen the kind of stories where the one who goes to the new body is the main character, it's rare to see the perspective of the person of the original body as the main character. And I've always been disappointed that some stories never paid attention to the original owners of the body and wondered what could possibly happen if they went back to their og body.

And I could definitely say that this novel satisfied that... more>> curiosity that I had for a while now. It was bittersweet, not being able to tell nor persuade everyone that he was the real owner of the body and the person who's been living as him for 2 years was not him. What's frustrating is that his substitute made better things than him.. it left a bitter taste in my tongue and somehow made me wonder what I would have done if I was in his shoes lol. He was honestly brave fr. The ML wasn't exactly the one to blame either... Maybe the ML was wrong and he was s*upid but if I would actually put myself under his shoes I would kinda understand why he didn't believe him since he was with the fake MC for 2 years and he was the one who has been living with him until the real MC returned, but still I wouldn't justify the treatment that he has done to the MC especially he wasn't even at fault for the situation.

I was honestly looking forward on how the story will go, considering that the ML had a relationship with the fake MC and not the real MC and I was surprised to know that the ML actually liked him even before the accident and that made the story even more heart wrenching... I guess he got what he deserved at the end for giving the MC that kind of treatment. Although I'm a bit frustrated knowing that his parents would never know that they will never see their real son again. Sighh... It's a good thing that the MC forgot everything and finally have his own original life where no body will blame him for who he is.

It was so heartbreaking watching such a happy and optimistic person be broken down by the people they loved. Great writing. Highly recommend if you want something short that'll make your heart ache and tears fall.

I read another one of this author’s novels before reading this one but honestly, this one destroyed me more. I haven’t cried this much in a while, I felt like the author knew every single way to make me cry.

Both the MC and the ML were likeable people so you could only lament the situation they were put in. It was a satisfying ending and I’d highly recommend this to people.

-The ML is just so F*CKING DUMB. Like how is he not able to recognize the guy he claims to have fallen for at first sight. Like how DUMB you have to be to not differentiate between the guy you like and some stranger.

- Also why is the real ze'an still so in love with the ML after seeing him act so cold towards him??! Like grow a goddam backbone and just leave or at least stop making him breakfast everyone.

- I understand why the real ze'an wanted to die at the end but I feel like there could have been a better alternative. Though it still made me happy seeing the ml's guilt after indirectly killing him.

I've always read stories where MC transmigrated in a novel, however, never thought the possibility of what ifs. What if the original owner came back? How sad it was when the people around him likes the fake more than himself? That's how the story unfolds. I cried a lot reading it. Hence, I am still satisfied wih the ending. MC deserves to be happy 🥺 It's a good story. Just make sure to read the tags.

It's so heartbreaking. Who put onion in here? Still, happy ending for Ze'an. You definitely deserve better, but regret always come last and there's nothing we could do to change it. I know Ze'an didn't exist, but I really want to wish him a lifetime happiness that he couldn't get before.
