I’m telling you, acting is really just a hobby.

Not the VTuber part.

It's somewhat obvious, but it has strong parallels to "I want to be a VTuber". However, despite the common theme of TS reincarnation with VTuber aspirations turned genius actress, the backgrounds and the way those are expressed in their roles are different.

I personally liked "I want to be a VTuber" more, but that doesn't mean that this novel is bad by any means. It just didn't immediately enter my all-time favorites.

But to highlight the contrasts and describe how the novel stands out on its own:

Time skips are rather... blunt. The... more>> first skip literally passes six years so the author didn't even bother with super early childhood. But even later, there's not much plot convenience that specifically leads to events that lead to a skip. It's more like the important plot of the arc finished, a few sentences to say that time passed, onto the next arc. It's unadorned and to an extent unpolished, but it does keep the story going. It invokes the impression that there are no filler chapters.

In "I want to be a VTuber", the MC lived their previous life with a loving family but had to act to compensate or overcome an inherent condition. In "Hobbyist VTuber", the MC suffered from chronic illness and was ab*sed by their family to act healthy for their purposes.

Athleticism and unusual muscle strength are also present in both works, but here I have to give the edge to "Hobbyist VTuber" where it's explained through a healthy diet and hours of exercise every day to the extent of expecting adverse effects. Which is not to say that the protagonist of "I want to be a VTuber" doesn't exercise, but it's made clear that's not the source of the strength but rather a cheat ability that doesn't alert physical appearance.

But here the MC developed a toned body from a young age.

Generally, while the acting ability comes from the circumstances of the previous life in both novels, I found that this one puts a greater highlight on the efforts and their respective fruits, which makes it a more satisfying read in that regard, whereas there's less absurd comedy instead.

Overall the writing falls behind, but that's just in direct comparison. It's still a very good novel overall that I can recommend without regrets or concerns, and I'll likely keep reading both novels for quite a while <<less

Not bad, but not as good as "I want to be a Vtuber". I'll be referencing the other story because this one takes a lot of inspiration from the other.

First thing I noticed when reading is that I'm having trouble following the names. I don't know if it's a writing or translation issue, but I never had that problem with "IWTBAV" (or most other Korean novels). However, in this story everyone has a Yoo or Joo as part of their name, and the author likes to only mention their job/title... more>> once after introducing them. So it quickly gets pretty confusing.

Overall the writing is just not as engaging or immersive, a lot of things that happen in this novel seem to lack meaningful setup or glossed over some details. "IWTBAV" tells you what happens in the future first, and then how her actions change the timeline after. In this novel, the MC takes acting projects seemingly on a whim, and then half way into the arc explains her rationale with a not so convincing vtubing reason.

Edit : The author's also a bit unlucky, there recently seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding real actors for the 2 real drama works they've referenced. I don't know if they'll do any editing or just ignore it. <<less

This novel scratches the same itch as I want to be a vtuber (IWTBAV). The main character reincarnates as a girl and wants to be a vtuber but somehow gets into acting as a stepping stone to get to there. Unlike IWTBAV, she gets into vtubing business very early on so there elements of streaming novels here as well like playing games and chat implementation. It does not reach the same heights as IWTBAV but is still really fun. If you read that and want something similar than definately read... more>> this. <<less

Since the novel quite similar to I want to be a vtuber, I have no choice but to compare this with it

The story and writing is lukewarm at most. The writing is not bad, but not good. The continuous between each chapter feel a bit disconnected

About characters, they feel 2-dimensional, the emotional deep with each acting feel very half-heart, and very fast pace. It feel like the author trying to jump skip between each scene. A 5-milion film be done with 2-3 chapters is kinda....

The reaction of the viewer is... more>> hardly portray correctly. Despite in chapter 25 where MC has already feature in 3 different media show, not much of a reaction on the viewer side, even from the productor side. I expect the Productor and editor check the film when making trailer and then talk about it, but non of it happen. they skip the process of making trailer, immediately make the trailer 5-7 millions views.

The most ridiculous part is how everyone treat a 6-7 years old child and how the normal mindset of the child portrait in the novel. The 6-7 year old child in the novel has already experience jealoucy, competitive, know how to mock other, already know about profession like doctor, etc... And the kinder garden thing already has running event. Every child already know about how the world work and openly admire MC because she apparently a celebrity. And everyone look at MC as if she's a normal child actor that better than other child. Every child in this novel seem more mature than their age. (Even the MC in IWTBAV debut age is 9). It make it harder to connect the novel with reality.

Since I'm only read till 25 and drop, 3* at most for this. Not good, but not really bad.

Edit: read it till c 100, clarify: the Productor and editor did check the film and talk about it in later chaper, but it's still lukewarm. It's not fair to compare this to IWTBV. At best, it's slice of life novel, where hardly any drama and psychology happen. Personal grown? Nope, not really.

Actually, this story really have potential, but the way author skim through important plots and half-heartly solve it then forget about it make reading this really frustrating. Like, really really frustrating. I really want to love this story, but I just can't. Better drop this than force myself reading frustrating stuff. <<less

This is a gender-bender acting novel, but the MC also does more than just act.

First of all, this was a very engaging web novel. I stayed up until 1 AM reading it, and when I woke up, I couldn't stop until I'd caught up to the latest chapter.

The thing I love most about this story is how the MC grows. She learns more about acting and picks up new techniques along the way. At first, I brushed off her acting skills, thinking that it made sense since she's the main... more>> character in an acting web novel. But logically, it seemed strange that someone who spent their entire past life in a hospital would be so good at acting. The reason they give for her talent is both heartbreaking and entirely reasonable.

I'm not sure about other people, but for me, what draws me to acting web novels is the fun of experiencing a story within a story. It's a joy to watch heartfelt or heartbreaking moments unfold, knowing I can enjoy the emotional depth without being overwhelmed by it. So far, I've loved the movies, TV shows, variety shows, and commercials she's been a part of.

I've enjoyed watching the MC's acting abilities grow, and I hope she can also grow as a person. It's not that she's a bad person—I just want to see her overcome her trauma and stop suffering from it. Speaking of which, if she does open up to someone, like her friend, for example, I wonder how that will go. Considering she's had a happy life and supportive parents in this life, I hope she can confide in her friend and find some comfort.

The MC's friend/rival has had great character development as well. At first, she was consumed by envy and jealousy, but now she's focused on improving her acting to defeat the MC. I admire her growth, and I also enjoy their dynamic.

All in all, 5/5—I highly recommend this! <<less
