Fu Chaoyun accidentally clicked on a voice message, and from then on the owner of this voice message became Fu Chaoyun’s sweetheart.

The meeting at the school anniversary still made Fu Chaoyun’s heart beat. The two met and their identities were confirmed. If you like me, I will walk towards you unswervingly.

Thought I was going to read a sweet romance story, but oh boy, I was very wrong.

At the beginning, it was a bit slow-paced and sweet—not bad, quite good, actually. But later... oh dear, it went from sweet to angst so fast that I was like, what? Who are these new characters jumping in out of nowhere?

Spoiler

At first, the ML was portrayed as mature and understanding—which he is—but then a new person appears: ML’s childhood friend (CF), who turns out to be obsessed with him. This person starts confronting the MC, and that’s when the misunderstandings start—and just keep piling up! I kept thinking, there are only 15 chapters left, when will they reconcile? But nope, the misunderstandings continue.

Then we find out about MC's biological father, who was actually his mother’s childhood sweetheart. He didn't know about MC’s existence until MC’s grandfather informed him before he passed away. The grandfather even gave MC a phone to contact him in case of trouble. MC didn’t know that the man he believed to be his father—the one who abandoned him and his mother when he was 10—wasn’t actually his biological dad. So, naturally, MC hated him (non-biological father here MC still doesn't know anything about his biological father).

Anyway... the misunderstanding continues. MC proposes breaking up with ML due to a misleading audio clip involving ML and his CF. Meanwhile, ML sees MC with his biological father and assumes he’s met a new man who’s now taking care of him. Sigh.

I got really fed up, but I still kept reading...

Then the CF tries to unalive himself just to prove that ML still cares about him. Like, seriously? This person is truly a psychopath. And to make things worse, during their childhood he had spread a rumor that ML was mentally ill—a rumor ML’s family still believes because of which ML didn’t have any close friends so he was very close with this CF almost dependent on him which lead to this current situation though the later ML came to know about and the CF caused trouble when later on he was sent abroad and now he has come back because of ML relationship with MC.

Honestly, ML is also at fault for not clearly explaining things to MC, which just fuels more misunderstandings. Eventually, the CF, after getting no response from ML, attacks MC. This leads to MC getting kidnapped because the CF had his (non-biological) father, held hostage. Then blah blah blah, chaos ensues, the childhood friend ties explosives to himself in an attempt to kill everyone. ML protects MC and ends up in a coma for a year. He wakes up, they get back together... THE END.

[collapse]

I was like, what?! That’s the end? Where’s the sweetness I was looking forward to? I was literally crying, then laughing, then crying again—it was giving me sweetness and torture at the same time.

And about his father—I’m still unsure whether I should hate him or if the author just forgot his initial character profile.

AHhhhhhh!!! It was truly an emotional rollercoaster. Now I need to read a sugar-dripping novel to recover.

It might not be considered angst-heavy by some, but I usually avoid this kind of story. Still... I enjoyed it and loved it despite everything.

Lots of love. <<less
