The Alpha bigshot of the Federal Military, Huo Yan, took a liking to that obedient and submissive pretty little plaything.

No matter how Huo Yan treated him as less than human, he only lowered his snowy white neck, obediently kneeling on the ground, removing Huo Yan’s shoes and socks upon his late-night return, timely offering warm and palatable hangover soup.

What a convenient little plaything, Huo Yan thought.

Until one day, Huo Yan suddenly realized that he had the ability to hear others’ thoughts.

Upon returning home, the pretty Omega approached, gently and humbly kneeling as usual to remove his shoes and socks. However, Huo Yan heard a deeply annoyed sound from him, [“Tsk.”]

……

Huo Yan’s face turned ashen, he restrained himself, holding him to sleep. Although the Omega had a shy and delighted expression, that intensely repulsed voice in his heart struck his eardrums even more fiercely.

[“This frantic dog in heat!”] Huo Yan: ?

2

Huo Yan raised the chin of the pretty Omega with his polished shoes, his lips curling with disdain, “Are you willing to do anything for me?”

The seemingly harmless thistle flower nodded docilely, forming a stark contrast with the gritted-teeth thought.

The self-assured Huo Yan smiled.

He played with this wild and unmanageable pretty plaything between his fingers, like a cat toying with a mouse, planning to torture it to the brink before ruthlessly crushing this fake and deceptive plaything!

He was too impatient to witness the despair in his eyes.

Unexpectedly, when the thistle flower turned its head, it tore off a chunk of his flesh.

3

The clown turned out to be himself (Huo Yan), a dog Gong self-biography.

While I did enjoy reading parts of this novel, it definitely was a novel that seemed confused as to what it wanted to be.

Is it a novel fighting for omega rights (with obviously analogies to present day misogyny) ? Is it a crematorium? Is it a novel where the MC fights with his past trauma and grows as a character? Is it a tragedy? These aren't necessarily tropes/storylines that are mutually exclusive, but unfortunately, it feels like the author couldn't focus on committing to any of them and the plot... more>> felt like a jumbled mess as a result.

The story is set in an ABO world where omegas have become "unnecessary" and are treated like second class citizens/objectified as a result. The ML, having grown in this environment, looks down on omegas (and thus the MC) and, put simply, is a giant piece of shit. He's honestly.... really gross. The obvious s*um gong characteristics (sleeping with other people, treating the MC like nothing, etc.) aside, he does some really heinous shit.

Spoiler

When he realizes the MC thinks of him like a dog in heat because of that mysterious ability to hear his thoughts (more of this later), he.... um... literally takes the MC to this anonymous s*x club where, on the stage, an actual dog has been injected with some sort of aphrodisiac. And the MC is supposed to.... you know.... have s*x with the dog. And there's an audience who will be watching them (ugh, excuse me! *barfs*) Of course, I have no idea if this was just an empty threat, as the MC decides the time to make like a banana and split is then and shoots the ML (deserved!), but to even consider it and set up the whole thing is. Well. Despicable, to say the least.

[collapse]

The MC, on the other hand, was well characterized. He wasn't super OP, but he was intelligent and I always thought what he did made logical sense. This entire story is more a result of the world being against him than the results of his actions (as in, he's not suffering because he chose to stay with a shitty gong). He's a part of a small group that rebels against the current structure of ABO society and fights for omega rights, but his journey is severely hampered by (you guessed it) the ML and his constant interference.

Where the story fell flat for me was not the shitty ML, but as mentioned earlier, the lack of direction of the novel. As you can tell from this summary, this is a crematorium where the ML treats the MC like shit, the MC "runs away", and the ML realizes he loves the MC and chases after him. It's after this that I wonder where the author wanted to go with the plot.

Spoiler

(FYI, this might not be 100% accurate as I read this a while ago) I may be mixing up the order, but after the ML tracks the MC down and confines him, the MC gives in to his demands so that the rest of the people in their resistance group are spared. There's a subplot where the resistance group tries to force society back into equality by making it so that alphas "need" omegas again (with the release of a virus), but I don't recall it being explored in too much depth. The MC also takes care of a child who is related to the resistance group (I think it might have been his nephew? I don't remember 100%). Then, the MC gets pregnant, and his trauma/hatred of the ML causes him to despise his child. Through some physiological phenomenon, he "forgets" that the child of his is his own and treats him lovingly (the ML makes everyone act as if the MC is just the child's relative/caretaker or something, so that the trauma of forcing him to realize he is this child's mother doesn't come back). He becomes the director of an orphanage, goes to take care of the children in the orphanage when the virus (spread by the resistance group) hits, gets sick, almost dies, recovers but is severely hampered in his ability to live a normal life, falls into a coma again, and then dies. In the last scene, the child that he took care of (his maybe nephew) goes to his grave and tells him something along the lines of omegas are equal now, and the novel ends.

[collapse]

The ending especially threw me off, because I didn't see the reason why the MC didn't just

die to begin with. Him recovering slightly to just die again had no relevance to the plot other than to pad word count, I guess.

[collapse]
Also, in my opinion, the ML didn't really seem to grow or become a better person, and I just felt bad for the MC throughout the novel (and especially toward the ending). He didn't deserve any of this, just happened to be a person who was sh*t out of luck :/

All in all, an interesting read, but not something particularly mindblowing or amazing. If you want a novel that does a bit better in the whole "justice for omega rights!" thing, I would recommend "Why are the Protagonist Gong and Shou Fighting Because of Me?". A 3.5/5.0 stars for me. <<less

The story so far is intruiging. I am curious as to the scheme of the shou and how he fits the gong into all of this.

I am happy that this has been picked up. The story is refreshing as long as you take it as a fictional story, and I can’t wait for more.

A complete mess that I couldn't put down. While the story contains a mix of tried (and tired) tropes as well as new innovations (omegas becoming redundant, mind reading between lovers), the author never successfully manages to build the world they set their characters in. Similarly, the characters themselves, with the exception of the MC, do not change or grow at all over the course of the story. And the MC's journey isn't so much one of character development as character destruction, as he goes from broken, to shattered, and... more>> finally, to ashes. About a third of the way into the story the MC is already beyond saving. His mind and will have been destroyed by Huo Yan and there is no longer any hope that this will be a crematorium, so it just becomes the diary of an omega's suffering. Huo Yan learns to treasure his possessions, but he never learns to love, and even if he did the crimes he's committed make him eternally unworthy of it. I wonder if he ever told his precious son about the time he tried to have his mother r*ped by a dog? There are a lot of dramatic revelations that simply never occur and it feels a bit like wasted potential. For example, Huo Yan, despite being able to read Wen Mo's mind, never learns that Wen Mo never intentionally seduced him but was instead deliberately delivered to his bed by his adoptive parents. There is one strong point, which is that the author, unlike a lot of ABO writers, doesn't use having a child to pave over the story's tragedy. I really appreciate that they never forced MC's maternal instincts and even until he died he refused to acknowledge himself as a mother to Huo Yan's r*pe baby. Frankly, it's tr*sh, but it's oddly compelling tr*sh and that makes it better than probably 95% of ABO. <<less

It's really a good book. The plot is dog blood but has Purpose. It uses the concept of ABO setting but it also thinks about it. The novel was interesting and best of all, I love authors that think and make you think.

Many years ago I wrote " Freedom is a cage...", I believe this to eternally be true. But Wen Mo's struggle reminded me once more that Freedom is the cage that you willingly enter and hold the keys to or even better your cage whose lock is yourself.

I've read this to the end with mtl. I gotta say, im not one to fuss about dog blood drama but this is just pushing my limit. Its not over the top kind of bad dog drama. It was surprisingly done nicely and really realistic if we see this from psychology pov.

I just want to say that this novel might not be good for you reader who have soft heart because this is just squeezing and playing with your heart with needles. I cried from mid to end. The plot... more>> is so saddening and theres this melancholic vibe in it that makes me question life and just stare at the sunset in a dilapidated rooftop room.

As for the characters, the ML is a total s*um in early chps and is still a s*um in mid but kinda less. He did kinda try better himself towards the end to his omega. But it was to late and the dmg was done. It was a pity...

As for the MC, at first I thought he was a badass and cool but to mid plot I just feel sad for him. Everything he did is for survival, and I wont blame him. It was understandable and it was hard to hate him when he was so broken. I cried everytime he spoke loudly and pour everything out to his alpha, all his grievance.

Overall I gave this 4 ratings, I just wished the author gave the MC a break and let him have his happiness. He was like a stretched rope and never losen.

This was a good novel, good bye wen mo. I wished you happiness and the freedom you wanted. <<less
