The novel “What Happens When Villains Get Stronger” was the only joy in my repetitive daily life. One day, I woke up to find myself in the story as a “nameless assassin”.

“Who am I supposed to assassinate now?”

In a world ruled by villains, I find myself dragged to a place where my chances of survival are nearly zero from the start.

This novel is amazing.

I feel so bad for our protagonist, his luck is horrible, yet he is smart and his desire to survive is amazing.

It is fun to watch because you can't help but cheer him on.

... more>> I hope you will also consider reading this. The language is not fun... But the plot is really good and well thought out.

Honestly, he doesn't feel like he has plot armor and I am at the edge of my seat, "Don't die push on!!!"

A better synopsis would be:

The novel "What Happens When Villains Get Stronger" was the only joy in my repetitive daily life. One day, I woke up to find myself in the story as a "nameless assassin."

"Who am I supposed to assassinate now?" I heard what the man said but it was crazy. He wants me to blow myself up on the main character? Why would I do such a suicidal mission?

In a world ruled by villains, I find myself dragged to a place where my chances of survival are nearly zero from the start.

I am no hero nor am I a villain. I am "He" who has gone through hell, literal hell to survive!"

Request to the Translator:

Translator, please keep up the good work!!!! Sadly, I cannot read past 130 with the method I have. T_T I will be looking forward to being able to read it with a better grammar. ^_^ Also, small request if they do the GD word please edit it out... it hurts to read that. <<less

It's very good so far.

Because it's rare that the protagonist is so realistic, not to be rushed, but it's against his nature, to be foul mouthed. But it's fine, bcs it's bearable, seems like a loud introvert when u got the wrong side, but cute sometimes.

I like the plot so far, but I hate the patience to wait eagerly for Arthur meet Camel. (OMG we need 100+ ch to go).

I didn't over to read it bcs I didn't have the newer remaining ones. Pls help ;-;

It soo good,

I liked it actually. Helped me kill some time during my commute. Flow is smooth, there doesn't seem to be any major plotholes till now, each of the characters and the side characters also seem to be developing unlike some novels where they are discarded after 1 or 2 chapters and are only there for plot convenience.

Also a personal one, there isn't Romance or Harem n stuff in it (Till now) Not that I hate it but I just don't like the way it either hinders the plot or is... more>> there for Author's self insert fantasy. I would love to read an "Action" novel where the Romance isn't just a self insert fantasy of how a Romance should be.

But one thing I want to nitpick is the amount of chapters. Chapters are way too few for my personal liking. As a whole, I hate how I can't even find dedicated mtl of Korean novels online. I'll just stick to chinese novels ig : (.

Anyways 4/5 cus why not. Personal review! <<less

Great start but gets worse as you get further along. The main issue with the story is that the MC gets strong too fast. There's 5 tiers and MC starts off weak in the 1st tier. In the beginning when he's weak, he has to plan ahead and you can feel the tension on what needs to be done next.

But he quickly jumps from 1st to 3rd tier, and then into 4th tier soon after. And because the MC is that strong, the author has to introduce even stronger enemies... more>> or s*upid hurdles that block his powers. Plans now feel random, and any tension felt has disappeared. Currently the MC has a weapon that can continuously charge up to unleash an overpowered attack, so enemies are further made stronger in order to compensate. <<less

A refreshing and exciting transmigration story—a must read for fans of the genre.

This novel is a true gem. Like many others of the genre, it focuses on a transmigrator using his foreknowledge to survive in a world of danger. And, true to its title, our main character's goal is to survive. It's a premise that could easily get old, but with overpowered and brutal villains, powerful side characters, and a unique world, you're really kept on the edge of your seat. There are inconsistencies and grammatical issues in the TL... more>> that cause some confusion (changes to character or item names and other key terms) —but that's honestly my only main gripe with this novel. Yah, more in depth review below for those who want it, but it's good.

1. Plot

The premise is pretty simple as far as transmigration novels go: MC gets transmigrated into a world of villains and needs to use his original knowledge of the novel to survive. Our protagonist starts off as an assassin of the first major villain (the original MC), destined to die while failing to kill him. But, due to some unique ability of his and some plotting, he manages to survive and the plot kicks into full gear. From then on, it's all about out-witting, out-maneuvering, out-deceiving the main villain. The MC is forced to survive and become stronger any way he can to ultimately kill the villain and change destiny, all the while saving and gaining powerful allies with his novel knowledge. Naturally, this means stealing opportunities from the original protagonist and thwarting his plans.

The overarching direction of the plot is shaping the MC to be the "hero" of the world who changes the destiny of other characters. But, surprisingly, the story isn't heavy handed at pushing the MC to be some "righteous hero of light, " though it drops some heroic moments here and there.
Spoiler

There's some mystery surrounding his transmigration as he's given an OP ability that gives him resistance to mental attacks. Plus signs that his transmigration was planned to the change trajectory of the world. But so far, the author hasn't dug into that much.

2. Characters

I love how all the characters feel real, complex, and consequential. Especially the female characters. They aren't brainless dolls who serve as members of the MC's fan club or harem, but are genuine allies or foes (who happen to be beautiful). Plus, side characters are likable and strong, making it a real joy when one joins the MC's party. And of course, the villains are no joke. There aren't any cliche, cannon fodders here. Villains are villains—brutal, cruel, conniving, and powerful. As a result, however, it takes a long, long time for just one to be taken down. I guess you can't expect a quick level up to take down the final boss...
Spoiler

Only issue is that I'm near 200 chappys in and we still haven't gotten past the first one...

[collapse]

And then there's our MC. Another reviewer said that he grew unrealistically quickly, but I disagree. Though the MC does become a force of nature, his increase in power is not without brutal trials and gambles with life and death. Plus, it's clear there are more than "five tiers" of power—5th tier certainly isn't the top of the food chain.
Spoiler

And even after gaining more power, the MC is greatly limited in how he can use that power. So far, there aren't absurd issues with power scaling, but it could become a problem as the MC explores the greater world.

[collapse]

3. World building

Ngl, I'm not a big world building person so idk if I'm the best judge for this, but so far, I really enjoy it. There are multiple races and complex dynamics and lore between them. As per usual, humans are portrayed as conniving/cruel while other races have their own unique traits. Non-human races generally hate humans. Mages and witches hate each other. Shamans are evil sons of a gun. Again, inly drawback is some of the TL issues with names/terms makes it a little hard to stay immersed in the world.

Spoiler

And then there's this whole "Divine Name" system where entities (typically people) with significance to the world/destiny/Divine (I'm assuming some kind of Godly power) gain a certain "Name" and titles that mark their fate. It's not clearly explained in one go, but we learn about it as the story progresses and it provides a unique flavor to the overall novel.

[collapse]

TLDR: It's real good, idk what happened to this site for this to only be at 4.0 but it's at least a 4.5 in my book. <<less

We have some tone issues coming in, with a somewhat whimsical protagonist from reality getting immediately beaten, threatened into a su*cide mission... and then tortured in the attempt to survive, at least twice.

This tone feels like they're trying to really brow beat the user into the tone of the story, but its not a nuanced issue... The method of making the setting tone dark is kind of a signaler to me of an awkward writer.

I think its good as a way to inform people coming in, but I'm not sure... more>> we'll get a super keyed in writer given the presentation of the intro.

I'm still willing to dive in, but I'm going to have to take breaks, because its pretty heavy handed. <<less
