I am a Primitive Man

“The sky was as clear as a wash, the sun radiated over the mountains and forests, and the entire world appeared tranquil, carrying a unique sense of stillness.

Watching a person wearing a sexy tiger-print miniskirt, holding a stick, leading a group of more than ten people shouting as they chased after the leader of a fur-covered rhinoceros, Han Cheng couldn’t help but bring his slightly curled right hand to his slightly open mouth and once again exclaimed, ‘Oh my goodness!’

(No system, no space, no cheating through crossing over, purely original primitive farming, without elements like cultivating immortality, for readers who enjoy a relaxed farming story, please read at ease.)”

Because I have read a lot of stories based on stone age, I could say that this one was lackluster. If you are reading such a story for the first time, you can read it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. But for someone who has actually already read better ones, this one is simply boring. There are barely any dialogues and MC comes off as a flat character. Also, certain things also made be feel irritated. Apparently, MC doesn't like Indians eating with their hands, because it makes him uncomfortable.... more>> If the author had done a bit more research, he'd have known the benefits of eating with hands. Although I myself eat using spoon, I at least don't look down on people eating with hands, because I have a functional brain and know the benefits of using hands to eat food. If the MC had introduced chopsticks by explaining that it would be more hygienic, because without soap, eating with bare hands is dirty, and that chopsticks are easier to make than spoons, it'd make sense. But blatantly targeting countries and cultures that use hands to eat food is amateurish.

There are also many plots that are just plain s*upid. For example, MC, an adult man in a six or seven yr old body, actually chases after a deer because it made him angry. Yeah, he chases after a deer out of anger through forests, alone, in a primitive world, when he is just six or seven and has no fighting capabilities. Apparently the deer teases him and keeps on looking back at him and provoking him. Like this, the MC manages to follow a deer back to its herd. Are you frickin kidding me? Does the author take animals for fools? And then MC gets happy, thinking he can tell about this herd to the chief and they can hunt this herd in the future. If MC was able to chase it, the distance must not be far away, so logically speaking, the tribe should know about its location already. Not knowing about it would be weird.

Also, MC wears shoes, socks, gloves and underwear made out of untanned leather. Wearing them for a short period of time might be okay, but the dude wears the underwear for the whole day. Can you imagine how uncomfortable and unhygienic that would be? Just thinking about the odor, bacterial growth and skin irritation made me shiver. It is better to not wear them than wear them, right? But MC does it anyway. He doesn't try to adapt at all and comes up with such s*upid ideas. I don't know what to say.

Anyways, there are a lot of s*upid things like this even in the first 40 chapters. <<less

Occasionally I'll teach a 1999 novel called, "A is for Aarrgh" by William J. Brooke. It's about cavemen and a prodigy who rapidly discovers language and the benefits it affords his tribe. It's good for 6th graders who are reluctant to work with grammar and need an anchor text with a little comedy. That said, the novel doesn't have a lot of depth in terms of characters, plot, or realism. The author consistently asks the reader to suspend their disbelief to let the novel work.

This is very similar, except replace... more>> the prodigy with a transmigrator Chinese guy and focus a little less on language and more on general survival technology. And as far as the first arc goes, the story has no antagonists and goes full man vs nature. (Edit: Second arc has other tribes as enemies)

In terms of the other webnovels though, this novel is free from petty squabbles, unrealistic villains, repetitive "face smacking, " cheat systems, cultivation, and all the other tropes that bog down innovation.

Overall, I'd give this 4/5 by webnovel standards, and like "A is for Aarrgh, " 2.5/5 by regular novel standards. <<less

This was a pretty fun read so far. I also enjoyed the translation.

It covers the story of a transmigrated Chinese guy and his efforts of improving his life and that of his tribe and bringing the knowledge he has as a modern person to a 'primitive' hunter-gatherer tribe.

The genre of slice of life is pretty accurate, the author also seems to take his time which I enjoy.

Spoiler

Though it is not like it takes 100 episodes for a day to pass nor does the protagonist cultivates for a 1000 years in seclusion lol.

[collapse]

So far I didn't see anything particularly egregious such as racism, xenophobia or sexism, which is something that I personally really dislike, so points for that.

Overall I believe that if you engage this novel with the expectations of it being a slice of life in a primitive world with some aspects of kingdom building and farming/husbandry you will find this novel quite a fun read.

9/10 needs more pudding. <<less

Very interesting MC who uses knowledge to uplift an primitive tribe with basic inventions. Worshipped as Divine Child for helping introduce many concept and invention that help them survive and thrive.

Looking forward for MC to build the tribe and merge other tribes.

Whoever give this a one star your missing out I caught up on the latest chapter and I'm gonna tell this is the greatest slice of life I found that I like and still does not find boring after 100 chapters and also the things that one star guy mentioned are actually somewhat realistic (I did my research and already tried some of the things the MC has done before I found this) and also about the deer chasing thing you have to understand sometimes he forgots he's in a... more>> 6 year old body and also the reason why the deer went back to his herd and teases the MC is just like what the guy said animals are smart and the deer knew the MC was a child so he didn't take him seriously.

and also about the underwear, socks, gloves, and shoes I'm not sure if he read that far but the MC knows that problem so spoiler he washes them daily and have multiple each individually and about the India hand eating thing (and by the way he treats it as if MC is racist to Indians) who doesn't have something they don't like of a country for example in my country we eat a food which is called Balot which is a duck egg the embryo still in the egg buried in the ground for 3 or 5 days and boiled it and in the west they find that weird and even sometimes disgusting and hands having benefits true they do have benefits but eating with chopsticks or spoons far outweighed than eating with hands <<less
