After a red meteor slashed through the heavens, human progress ground to a halt.

Since that momentous day, humanity lost its ability to create rockets, nuclear weapons, airplanes, cars…

The towering pyramid of civilization, meticulously built from the achievements of modern science, crumbled into dust.

Yet, the catastrophe didn’t stop there. The grey realm, following the arrival of the red meteor, like a ghostly reflection behind a mirror, dragged the civilized world bit by bit into the abyss of disorder.

In this new age, a human life was no more significant than a speck of dust, yet amidst the ruins, humanity’s spirit shone as brightly as the stars.

Amid the crumbling edifice, observers could see a figure—an actor—defiantly standing on the wreckage of civilization, his red cloak as vivid as blood, his expressions flickering between laughter and tears. Behind him, the curtain of the era gently parted. With arms wide open, he whispered to all who would listen— “Let the show begin.”

Status: v1
The events of the first volume take place in one of the nine realms, the Twilight Realm. The Twilight Realm consists of the Twilight City and seven zones outside the city. Some people see the city as a paradise, while the outer zones are the complete opposite—they’re essentially factories supplying everything to the city. The residents of these zones struggle to live there. One of the strengths of the work is that the author does an excellent job of portraying the stark contrast between Twilight City and the outer zones,... more>> showing how people live in each and why Twilight City is considered a paradise by those living in the zones—not just as a figure of speech, but in a way that feels justified.

As for the pacing, it’s neither too fast to the point where you’re confused about how events unfold, nor too slow to the point of boredom. The author skillfully builds up each event, and what impressed me even more is how each event is interconnected. The author pays attention to every detail and never neglects the characters.

On the downside: the interactions between characters.

Overall, they’re not bad, but they’re very average—even between characters who are supposed to have strong bonds, like Chen Ling and Chen Yan, or Chen Ling and Zhao Yi. This had an impact on some events. The author is clearly capable of showing much stronger interactions. At times, I found certain relationships becoming deep without the interactions to justify that shift—like with Chen Ling and Han Ming. Their interactions were average, more like a superior and subordinate, but suddenly Han Ming understands Chen Ling deeply, to the point he can’t believe Chen Ling would do anything wrong.

The author initially portrayed Chen Ling as a normal person, but after the first major turning point, he suddenly becomes nearly villainous—cold-bloodedly killing others without emotion. I don't have a problem with this direction per se, but I feel the author rushed it. There was no portrayal of how Chen Ling was affected by the original body’s personality, nor any interactions that would make this turning point feel impactful for the protagonist.

My rating for the first volume: 8–9 out of 10. I don’t think the lack of character interactions detracts too much, and I believe the personality shift might have a reason behind it. Still, it's a negative aspect until we get more explanation. <<less
