This story is not your average apocalypse story. Unlike most stories in the genre you don't completely lose your faith in humanity, yet at the same time it doesn't fall into the trappings of an apocalypse no longer seeming like one. Despite retaining a reader's faith in humanity this novel still depicts the dark side of the apocalypse without ignoring or minimizing this. It does so by giving a bit of general details and info and then leaving a bunch up to the imagination. It also avoids the genre's usual... more>> failures of overfocusing on s*xual violence and child ab*se while still depicting the dark side of humanity.

The story also has amazing tension management the author really gets accross the amount of tension the characters are feeling at each different arc in the story. There is clearly a main character but the author still makes you care about the rest of the main cast and even some of the extras. Another nice touch is that the game system is not easy or come across as easy.

Spoiler

The only time it appears op is near the end which is at a point where all the characters have built up their basic growth. Also nothing is given by the system for free like a munchkin although there is a lot of powerful stuff given.

[collapse]

The side story is a must, it shows the rest of the story which has a slightly different genre and has more op'ness. It also lets you meet side characters again as a collective instead of in their own seperate stories. It really wraps up the whole thing nicely.

In terms of the ending...
Spoiler

The ending isn't a total tragedy ending or a suddenly everything is fine again one, nor is it a harem fest ending.

[collapse]
It ends quite reasonably and the last scene is like a chefs kiss.

Overall this is a very gripping story that is hard to put down, definitely a good read.

A big thank you to the translator for picking this up. I hope as many people enjoy reading this gem as I did. <<less
