That’s why I decided to become the power behind the throne of the British Empire.

Well, this novel started out really interesting. The author depicted some historical events in Britain pretty well, and the MC wasn't someone who deliberately tried to force his modern worldview on Victorian era people. What really annoyed me, however, was his relationship with Queen Victoria. ... more>>

I really found it difficult to believe that she was willing to wait around 5 years for him to return and produce enough political results to marry her. More importantly, I think at that time, it would have been completely impossible for the son of a woman who didn't marry his father, as well as an Irishman, and also a mixed race person... all of those things would make it completely impossible to have a legitimate marriage relationship with the queen of England. I mean, you can tell that even in modern times, a mixed race relative of the British royal family is shunned. Granted, being an Asian mixed race is not the same for white people as a black mixed race, but I think at that time race relations were about 1000x worse. I think that this book would definitely have been better if he didn't go with the royal romance trope.

I guess I might continue to read it later... but I'm not sure. At this point it's kind of on my dropped list, sigh. <<less

Pretty exciting start. The story really takes time to transition from modern world to ancient korea to industrial england. It doesn't feel rushed and there is sufficient character and world building. I have high expectations for this. Translation and writing are both noteworthy as well.

This is my first ever review after reading hundreds of novels found on this site. This is one of the most interesting novel premises I have encountered in a long time. The main character is smart, cautious, and has to work for his success instead of being handed everything (except having a minor noble as a father). There is no system or anything holding his hand. Translation and writing quality are both excellent so far. Definitely excited to see where this goes - highly recommended!
