Update : The Author just announced part 2! Around August or early September 2025

The novel is currently in hiatus because of the author's mandatory military enlistment, atleast 2 years before this get another update, or a continued serialization in novelpia. They already created a prologue for part 2

This review is highly subjective and is based on my personal opinion.

... more>> TL;DR: This novel dives deep into a complex story where the protagonist fights against her darker instincts, trying to hold onto her humanity even as she turns more monstrous. Unlike your typical overpowered characters, she's pragmatic and morally conflicted, struggling with the need to kill and consume others just to stay sane. The story really picks up after chapter 40, digging into the FL's traumatic past and internal battles. What sets this novel apart is how even the side characters are well-developed, making the world feel real and alive. Despite the dark themes and the FL's slide into madness, the story keeps you hooked. It's a real gem among recent KR novels, and I'd give it a solid 9/10 for its potential and storytelling.

FL doesn't hide her powers, don't worry.

If I had to draw a comparison, this novel shares some similarities with the manhwa series I Grow Stronger By Eating. However, the protagonist here is different, a person with a moral compass who struggles against her instincts, trying to avoid killing. Yet, as the story progresses, she becomes more of a monster, losing control even as she tries to hold on to her humanity. This internal conflict is where the story truly shines.

The protagonist is pragmatic and calm, even when her world turns upside down. There's a certain edge to her character, a darkness creeping in as she gradually loses her humanity. The fact that the memories of those she consumes begin to merge a bit with her personality is a fascinating twist. The author does a great job of portraying her as someone who longs for home, yet is trapped in a world she can't escape from, a world where she must navigate while desperately trying to keep her humanity intact. Her struggle with adapting to a new writing system after being transported adds another layer of realism and difficulty to her situation.

One of the things I really admire about this novel is the depth of the protagonist's morality. It's rare to see an OP character in Korean literature who isn't just another generic, bland figure. The author deserves credit for creating a protagonist who only kills when necessary, but who is also trapped in a dilemma where she must kill and eat people to maintain her sanity. This constant battle between her body's cravings and her mind's refusal creates a powerful tension that keeps you engaged.

The FL can be a bit edgy due to the influence of her monster instincts. She has a rather twisted personality, and her morals have been altered, making them different from those of normal humans. The novel explores themes of morality and mortality, portraying the protagonist as a flawed yet compelling figure navigating a world completely unfamiliar to her.

The story truly evolves as it progresses, especially after chapter 40, where you delve into the origin and flashbacks of FL. These chapters explore her past traumas, regrets, and the harsh reality she's endured. Her struggles with depression, suicidal thoughts (she did commit su*cide) , loneliness, and an existential crisis paint a vivid picture of her inner turmoil.

Interestingly, the FL is an evil protagonist by technicality, though not on the same level as characters like Fang Yuan or Gu Changge. Her journey reminds me of the King of Humans/Sin from OFPV. As her strength grows, she gradually becomes more insane, losing touch with her humanity. It's fascinating to watch her descent, a theme that deepens the story and makes it all the more compelling.

But the brilliance of this novel isn't limited to the protagonist. Even side characters, minor characters, and "villains", who might only appear for a few chapters, are given depth. There's a sense that every person she encounters has their own life, motivations, and desires, they're not just cardboard cutouts for the protagonist to step on. Even a random s*ave character has a backstory, which makes the world feel alive and interconnected.

I might be exaggerating a bit, but from my perspective, this novel has immense potential. The author is undeniably talented, and it's surprising that some readers rate it so low after just a few chapters. There's so much more to explore here, and it's a shame that not everyone sees it.

I'd give it a solid 9/10. I've checked out a lot of the new KR novels on NU lately, and this one stands out as the best so far.

PS. This review of mine is kind of silly after re-reading it, I just wrote it off on a whim, it's a bit repetitive, hmm...୧⍢⃝୨

2/5. Great potential, but seriously lacking. Becoming a monster and losing all sense of self, moral, memories and emotions slowly while dreading it and trying to find ways. This premise is interesting. But everything else lacks. This could have been much more. I seriously feel bad about the wated potential.

World building and portrayals are the worst. Characters arent fleshed out, one dimensional and basic archetypes. Weird fetish subplots. Forced romance. Unnecessary fights and tournaments, idc about duelling with a random student when u have the strength to break apart the... more>> empire. Unnecessary drama, idc about random characters when the only thing I know about them is their name. Bad written fights and action. Paiinfully predictable plot armors. Paainfully simple plotline. Childish dialogs, no one, not even soldiers talk like a proffesional. The dark setting doesnt feel dark bec ambiance is lacking, author thinks painting everything in red and addding a few sobbings are "dark".

It has one top tier premise. But cant live up to the expectations. Im giving 5 star, but please know that it deserves 2 star if u exclude that potential. <<less

I hate "academy" titles. Most are either hot garbage click bait or hidden gems. This just so happens to be a hidden gem.

MC is quite literally a monster that survives by preying on humans. Slowly unraveling psychologically throughout the current chapters. Its entertaining I'd say. Not God tier but not half bad so far.

If I had to describe this novel in one word, it would be 'disjointed'. We have a pretty interesting serial killer monster novel mashed together with a generic academy novel. Overall, I would say the execution is a bit lacking.

The monster bits and her struggle with her own humanity are very interesting. It's fun reading about her trying to balance her own survival with her rationality and her desire to remain human. However, over 60% of the story is about an academy where it's all rainbows and sunshine. The focus... more>> on the academy is excessive and unnecessary, and honestly just breaks the flow.

The academy should have been much more important and relevant if they wanted it to be the setting. <<less

You probably read lot of novels MC reincarnated to a monster body but still having human mind. In this novel mc's mind turn to mind of a monster while he (now she) has human body. Novel about her trying to regain her humanity. This novel has potential to be great. It isn't actualized yet but because of that potential you want to read more and more. I hope translation will keep going.

The story follow iria, a monster that used to be a human before reincarnation. Iria is gradually changing and as a result of her new body become unable to retain her feelings and emotion. This process lead her to become more and more twisted, losing her humanity in the process. We watch as she tries to find ways to retain her sanity and return home, while exploring a completely new world.

So often we are offered revenge/evil protagonist novels that fail to live up to the hype - 5 minutes into the story the MC either completely forgets that they're supposed to be bad or turns into a complete mess dependent on their harem to barely function while crying themselves to sleep at night. While I understand that a full on revenge/mu*der fantasy can be dull to read, what I cannot stand is being blatantly click-bated into a story that is intentionally mis-labeled.

All of that is to say, this novel was... more>> a wonderful gem hidden amongst the garbage. The author manages to create a character that makes the inhuman feel human, and continuously displays the struggle to find your own identity in a body that feels nothing like your own. Iria's desire to regain her disappearing emotions and come up with her own form of morality kept me deep in thought, so much so that 25 chapters made me empathize more with the MC than some novels barely manage to do in 150.

Honestly I just hope that Ruminas can keep up the translation speed; I can't wait to see where this novel goes in the future. 5/5 <<less

It's an alright story, I enjoyed it even though it's not top tier.

The MC transmitigrates into the body of someone neither a human nor a monster.

As times passes her ability to feel human emotions slowly evaporates and is described as "faint" during the novel.

... more>> She explicitly states through inner monologue she no longer fully understand humans.

Despite that, she has no wish to kill or even harm most humans and is troubled after she recovers from a frenzy.

As such this is mostly a story about the MC discovering the truth about herself and maybe either escape her current situation or find a inner balance and a place in her new world, I dunno.

The story also dips into the background of other characters.

The side characters gets fleshed out to a certain extent. Some more interesting that others though.

Is it worth a read?

Give it a try. I can't say "YES!" even though I gave it a 4. But it's definitely worth a try, <<less
