I used to think that my stealing skill only worked on what was worthless to a person.

But just before I died, I realized that I could also steal the skills.

So I stole the regression.

There isn’t a whole lot out yet but what we do have is very promising. I really like the main character. His ability is also very interesting, I don’t think that I’ve seen stealing abilities ever done like this one. Im looking forward to seeing what happens next.

It's a solid but boring novel.

It has all the points checked.

{

... more>> Miserable MC with everything in the world against him regresses.

Powerful noble house.

Demigod patriarch.

Shitty siblings so talented.

MC using his future knowledge (getting allies and all that)

Securing an OP master.

Getting a cute waifu.

Academy with geniuses.

The world is doomed in the near future.

MC tries to save the world.

obnoxious characters and interactions (low key face slapping/ characters underestimating MC/ MC acting tough with him being mentally older... etc)

}

Sigh...

It's just so similar to any random novel out there, it's copy paste.

The same settings and the same theme. The same concept and the same story progression.

Honestly it's just boring, I can't find myself invested in this novel.

If you're new to novels and haven't even read any manhwa, you might like this.

But there are a lot of manhwa out there with a similar story to this, and there a lot more novels with a similar story to this, all with the same concept and story progression.

It's like asking AI to scan all the stories from this genre and produce the points that are similar between all the stories and then using those points to write this novel.

In short it's not original nor unique in any way.

The MC is copy paste as every other one.

The characters are bland.

The progression and events are predictable.

There's no saving grace here aside from the fact that it's a solid novels with all the boxes checked. The problem here being that the boxes are not original and are present in hundreds of other novels. <<less

Is it worth reading?

If you like a story that balances plot & character development, go for this novel. Its premise may be cliché, but the story's execution is done well. It gets better and better as you read it — so much so that you'll find yourself engrossed before you know it. But, if you don't like harem, then this isn't for you.

What to expect?

POSITIVES:

  • Kraush (the MC) is clever, sly, cunning, has a strong will, and doesn't give up no matter what. His tenacity is admirable yet painful because oftentimes, it's bordering madness. He acknowledges that he isn't a genius and lacks the talent so he perseveres until he becomes stronger. He uses every means, even if it means consuming everything.
  • The relationship between Kraush and Bianca, his fiancé, is wholesome. They're so cute together. They're like siblings taking care of each other in their own ways. They are each other's pillar of support. Because Kraush always pushes himself to the limit in most of his battles, he inevitably always passes out but before he does, he tries to go and see Bianca first (most likely to reassure her that he's alive and just to see her), which is so adorable 🥰
  • Kraush isn't the only regressor with his old memories intact. There are a total of 5, including Kraush. To be precise, only 1 is a real regressor cause he possesses the ability to regress while the remaining 4 have their memories of the past. I consider this a positive cause Kraush isn't the only one who can use the future knowledge to his advantage but the others as well, which makes the future events more unpredictable to the MC.
  • Humans' complex emotions and contradicting feelings are delved into in this novel because of Bianca's curse, which makes the other minor characters feel more alive. Even the issues within the families of supporting characters are given some spotlight.
  • Kraush's battles are hard-earned through literally blood, sweat, and tears. He doesn't singlehandedly overpower his opponents (who are usually leagues above him) through sheer strength alone. He uses everything in his arsenal, even sacrificing a few limbs to achieve victory. This makes his battles more realistic and thrilling.
  • Kraush not only grows in terms of prowess but also as a character. I love how it was portrayed when he was able to heal and move on from his past scars, and realized that people can change and that he shouldn't judge them based on his knowledge from the past.
  • Supporting characters are given their spotlight and enough screen time about their inner struggles, thoughts, character development & past experiences. I especially liked Bianca's character development. It tugged at my heartstrings 😭
  • Kraush's tenacity, determination, and characteristic of never giving up, even in the face of a despairing situation, inspire and spread to other supporting characters, which in turn contributes to their character growth. I especially liked how Anik's character development turned out, thanks to Kraush's influence.
  • The way the author develops & portrays the relationships between the characters is well done. The dynamics between characters (such as their interactions, emotions, and conflicts) are skillfully crafted, which makes them feel realistic, engaging & meaningful. The relationships contribute significantly to the novel's overall impact. As a reader, it drew me into the characters' lives.
  • The pacing is good. It's not too fast yet not too slow.
  • The execution of the story is good. It's not the kind of novel where major events are narrated one after another without any breaks.
  • Kraush doesn't become OP in one go. His prowess gradually increases throughout the story. His growth is shown through training, duels, or battles.
  • The author lets the MC grow first before throwing him into the academy. I like that aspect because other novels' MCs were immediately shoved to the academy arc and then the authors have a hard time coming up with events within the academy that's why they make scenarios where the MC had to go out of the academy for their character growth, which makes the academy arc irrelevant. I also like that the MC met important supporting characters along the way as he tried to increase his prowess and not all at once in the academy.
  • There's a secondary couple, Aslan & Dorothy. I like their stories 💗
FALLBACKS:

  • Narration is more on tell than show.
  • Repetitions of the same information that were previously narrated. I've lost count of how many times it was narrated that Kraush had contained countless curses in his body.
  • There are quite a few instances where full-grown women joke with the MC in a s*xual way, which I find inappropriate cause he's just 13-14 at the time. A LITERAL CHILD. That's s*xual h@ra$sment yet the author seems to like incorporating that aspect 🚩Kraush might have the mind of an adult but the female adults don't know that and only see him as he is.... the body of a kid barely reaching puberty.
  • The story could've benefited more from a more diverse range of supporting characters... at least that's what I felt. The focus on female characters was interesting, but having a broader mix of genders in the supporting roles could've added more balance & variety to the overall dynamics. It would've been nice to see different perspectives & interactions and it could've enriched the narrative more.
    Spoiler

I glimpsed at the future chapters to check if Kraush really ends up with a harem and to my dismay, he did. He ended up with 4 wives. I knew that this novel had a harem. But at the beginning till around the c100s, it seemed to be going in the direction of Kraush being surrounded by females but ultimately ending up with Bianca. At first, Kraush's relationships with the other female supporting characters were platonic so I hoped that he would end up solely with Bianca. I was really rooting for the two that's why I got so disappointed to the point that I lost interest in reading further. This is also the reason why I rated this novel 4 stars. If it wasn't for that, I would've probably rated it 5 cause I liked the story execution and how the author portrayed the character developments & their interpersonal relationships. Btw, I don't dislike the other girls that ended up with Kraush. They're likable, have their own strengths, and truly care for Kraush's well-being. I just got so invested in my ult couple that's why haha

    [collapse]
  • There are occasional mistranslations of character names and inconsistencies with skill names.
  • This is a personal pet peeve but when the author describes the physical appearance of most of the female supporting characters, he always emphasizes their ch3sts or having a v0luptuous body. Like?? Out of all the physical aspects a woman has, the author almost always describes only those 2 🚩
OTHERS:

  • Kraush's situation as the untalented & youngest child of the strongest & renowned family, the demigod father coming back from a super dangerous area called the "forbidden zone" just to see Kraush and the mother's attitude towards her children all reminded me of Swordmaster's Youngest Son. However, this is how far the similarities of the two go.

Good regression novel,

MC premise did not shove him as being op from the start and make him train to be strong

MC smart, has loving fiancee, onward to save the world, other's characters also has sufficient and interesting worldbuiding

Tbh, I actually liked a huge part of this novel. But the recent chapters started to put a bad taste in my mouth.

Spoiler

I really didn't like how he was being forced to give up his engagement and how the girl's father kept pushing it. But what I really disliked was the fact that Kraush didn't immediately sh*t it down. Like we see that he's constantly getting teased for flirting with women, but he's honestly doing all that to prevent the end of the world or because he cares about them and then this scene comes along!

While he does try to protect Bianca and later feels guilty for making her feel insecure in their relationship... he doesn't completely shut it down. Like it was supposed to be harem but it went in such a good direction of a single couple with a lot of girls liking him that I was taken aback by the fact that he didn't immediately claim that he wouldn't marry anyone but Bianca.

And later, it seemed to hint the setting of MC having multiple wives instead of just Bianca, which made me sad.

[collapse]

I'll probably try to read more because the story is genuinely good. The MC gets through sh*t with grit and it's obvious to many people that he's actually pretty unskilled but he just never stops. And the development of his strength is painful. Every inch he gets is something to celebrate.

Spoiler

Even when he gets to the top of the year, he's still trying to get stronger.

[collapse]

The people around him will get stronger on their own as their talent blooms, but his talent will never bloom. So he needs to keep trying.

Moreover, the emotions and depth in every character is really good. It's so well written.

Spoiler

If it weren't for the MC being pushed into the multi-wives scenario, I would genuinely like it so much more.

It's pretty cliche (Strongest family, weakest talentless son, a devoted fiance, politics, "Only the strong can survive", hidden super books that grant an overpowered martial art) but I like it. The Kraush isn't obnoxious and his actions have reasons. He doesn't attack right away when he sees someone who has wronged him before the regression which I like because many characters do that and blame it on their "Emotions that can't be controlled because they were mostly on the battlefield" BS. Kraush changes throughout the chapters and it is nice... more>> to see. His interactions with characters are okay as well.

Spoiler

When facing Pendal who died acting differently from before regression by saving a person instead of killing and being evil, Kraush tries to look at the present characters instead of being biased toward the past which is a pretty great development

[collapse]

Pros:

  • MC isn't emotionally dead or dense
  • Despite the title MC doesn't become overpowered overnight he suffers a lot and trains
  • The novel art is pretty good since the author of the story does it themselves which you can find on their Instagram: @muhwaggocran1
  • Although you know the MC will prevail at the end The fights are satisfyingly close that it feels very suspenseful
Cons:

  • It's a harem Idk the ending but the MC is close to many women at the point where I am. I don't care about this but others might
  • Ok, translation. Sometimes the names of characters are mismatched. Titles of strong characters are sometimes given to other characters who are completely different
  • Sometimes the characters act in predictable ways because of distinct character traits which I don't mind

Really enjoying this novel so far. Curious about the future (probably 20-30 chapters more) before we see (what I suspect/guess) an academy arc.

Spoilers for the prologue and some plot points in the story so far if you need more to be interested.

Spoiler

Main character has the ability to steal things their owner considers valueless, or if he meets special circumstances. Pre-regression the regression user used his ability to steal things to load the main character down with curses. The regression user had feigned any liking for the MC as he just wanted to use him. Same with all of the female characters around the regression user. Regression user had unlocked the ability to regress others with him and was going to regress the female characters with him.

Right as the regression was going to trigger the MC stole it as the regression user was utterly tired having regressed an unknown number of times before reaching this point. MC gets regressed along with the female characters. Regression user has not made a re-appearance in the story since, but two of the female characters who regressed have played a role in one arc.

What follows is MC powering up largely through things he knew or guessed from his first life. He loses the stolen regression, so no do-overs for him post regression (good author removing an OP ability for a logical reason).

MC befriends some erosion beings (monsters that can develop sentience from the world ending phenomenon known as erosion), including an immortal one who becomes his master. He takes revenge on a family member, though he tries to give him some a chance to redeem himself.

With this family member, we learn how skill stealing works on things that are valued by their owner. He has to fufill conditions that can be subjective, such as being more powerful than an opponent, being seen as a rival, etc. This is also a clever way the author makes an otherwise OP skill, more interesting.

It has yet to be determined what happens to someone after a skill is stolen if they are alive. Curse stealing has no negative impact and has been used once so far to enhance the MC by using the curse properties to suppress downsides of powerful other abilities. It seems in this arc we are in now the MC will be stealing his second skill.

I like the tone.

The relationship with the fiance I find very heart warming. The tone they set for that given the regression age gap I also find appealing. That seeds stuff for later.

***

There is a story beat that is getting a little over played at this point, and its "I know so much about other people its the only way I could survive, and therefore I know this person so well I can play with them like I have prophetic knowledge." This level of narrative is not particularly thrilling at... more>> this point, and it basically throws away the mystery of potential and kind of tries to throw a wet blanket at all these new characters we're introduced to. I think that's sort of a mistake I hope the author tries to learn a little from. Great stuff otherwise. He regressed and I think the notion of the unintended changes and impacts on the world, should read a little more into the story to keep us guessing.

But a lifetime of memories and he knows this many people's personalities to a T after the end times after suffering so much and trying to survive curses that wore down his mind? I think if it was done well it wouldn't be a problem, but once it starts grating on you, you pick the scab and bam its a flood. The suspension of disbelief gets affected a bit after that. <<less

I would like this novel a lot more if it wasn't for all the inconsistencies, not sure if it is the fault of the translator, but given the nature of these inconsistencies, I believe it is the author's doing.

Spoiler

First, he has a curse that makes him immortal but prevents him from sleeping.

Second, the immortal curse belongs to a character named Crimson Garden, but he was unable to get her curse because the condition was he had to be stronger than her, and he was weak in his previous life.

Already inconsistent as it said he had this curse at the start of the novel, but then later says he was not able to get it.

Third, the immortal curse has the drawback of putting the immortal in an eternal slumber.

The second inconsistency, this is in complete opposition to what the drawback is said to be at the start of the novel.

[collapse]

Anyway, this makes it hard to get immersed as it's hard to say what part of the world-building will stay consistent, or what will change because the author forgot what they originally wrote.

If this can be fixed, I would say it's a 4 star novel, pretty decent aside from the above. <<less
