The game【Arena Academy】was notorious for its difficulty.

[Play Time: 30,000 hours] [Challenge Achievement Rate: 99%] Before I knew it, I had become a veteran player, and with only 1% of the challenges remaining, I received a gift from the game developer.

However…

[★Developer’s Special Gift★] [☆Arena Academy☆] [v 1.0 plus 8 Trainer]

– Invincibility

– Infinite Health

– Infinite Stamina

– Infinite Mana

– Infinite Items

– Speed Limit Removed

– Super Accuracy

– Enemy Slow Motion

“Uh…, is it okay to use this?”

What the developer gave me was an ‘illegal cheat tool’.

This review is heavily subjective and based on my personal opinion.

First off, I won't sugarcoat it: this novel is very cliché. It uses almost every element of the Korean academy genre. Additionally, there are quite a few plot holes I've noticed, and some things just don't get explained. The story often just states that the protagonist does this or that without much detail.

The main character isn't really overpowered compared to what the tags suggest. For some reason, many things are illogical. For example, why is the MC so good at... more>> combat if he's only an ordinary shut-in gamer? Where does he sleep at the beginning? Where does he get those items? Also the three women in his class, who is supposedly the "main-characters" falls in love with him in literally a week, I'm not joking.
Spoiler

If you're wondering why 3 instead of 2, you might've guessed it already, Arthur is indeed a girl crossdressing as a boy

[collapse]

Overall, I'd rate it a 5/10. It's very cliché, but it can serve as a time-killer if you're looking for some light entertainment. <<less

I am so very disappointed in this novel. With a title like that, you're expecting this novel to be either somebody who uses their cheats in an ingenious way, or a comedy with an OP MC. Instead what we have is the most typical KR battle academy novel, with a wannabe underdog MC who gains enough power right before every battle so they can pretend he has struggles.

Don't even get me started on the romance. The main heroine has the ability to discern what people are thinking about her by... more>> just looking into their eyes. And she become interested in the MC before he's even spoken a single word to her, because his eyes are "different". Honestly, the other heroines are just as bad, basically there's no effort into the romance <<less

Generic. Snobbish. Poorly written.

Overall, a 5.5/10. The writing itself is 3/10. No humour found, at least for me, which is a massive minus (There's no Comedy tag to begin with so I'm just being unreasonable lol). No real personality found in the characters, 1/10. The plot too generic and cliché, not that I mind it. The MC is quite similar to the MC of Demon-limited Hunter, nonchalant to the point of being out of place. Quite evident that the author is a newbie. Translation is good though, so keep it... more>> up, lads.

Here are the detailed rants if you are interested in reading more lol:

1st person pov. The bane of my existence. Although there are great novels out there successfully use the 1st person pov, this novel isnt one of them.

The MC is a complete block of wood. I cannot sympathized with any of his emotions, or maybe there isnt any to begin with. He's too nonchalant, to the point that it breaks the immersion.

Scenes where he should be scared, however slightly, is glossed over. His excitement with only described with a few words, or just some generic, paraphrased sentences, without bringing out any uniqueness or, perhaps, humour and intrigue. Show, don't f*cking tell.

Spoiler

My reaction when he got his second cheat is just some 'Oh. Cool.'

[collapse]

The pacing is f*cking terrible. His first f*cking week in school is tens of chapters long, almost to the point of being fillers. Then, BAM! Timeskip to midterm. Hello? What the f*ck?

The action scenes is meh. I maybe biased and influenced by the 'flat' atmosphere of the story, and thus cannot really immerse myself in the scenes and feel any suspense. The fighting scenes is moderately described, but some just end abruptly, wasting the f*cking chapters-long build up.

Spoiler

His first minor boss (?) is just headshotted suddenly. Like, where's all that talk about surviving for some minutes and second phase powerup? I expect more struggle bruh. And after finish killing it, you don't even celebrate and just talk some sh*t about the reinforcement being late? Bruh I cannot feel any sense of accomplishment or relief. Also the godamned villain training arc lol. Talk sh*t about how easy it is to wipe the floors with other students only to be gangbanged and failed to protect your objectives. Where's the cautiousness? You are just being arrogant bruh. And I expect more tbh, considering there's less than 10 chapters in this so-called arc.

[collapse]

The heroines. F*cking hell, Chinese heroines are even better than the ones in this novel (I may be too extreme). I wont even bother ranting about this, as some of the other reviews already did. Just know that they show romantic interest in the MC too fast. One is just being so from getting headpatted, one from dueling/sparring, and one from being beaten up. Well, maybe the last one isnt to that point yet tho.

Oh yeah, and those f*cking unclear mentioning. 'That incident'? Go kys. At least don't make it so f*cking obvious that you are trying create a sense of mystery lol. <<less

I've read the raws till chapter 130.

This is a really fun novel. It's not really super complex nor is it a masterpiece but it's fun and action packed. The MC is pretty OP but some of his cheats still has restrictions.

Spoiler

no speed limit will make him go fast but his body can't handle it and he WILL become paste if he accidentally runs into something, infinite mana sucks up mana from the surroundings so he can't really use it around allies infinite items can't be sold but he can still give away OP elixirs and consumables, etc.

[collapse]

There is some mystery in the plot like who his parents are, is he actually isekai'd and whogave him his cheats.

From what I've read there are currently 4 love interests:Asuka, Seoyeon, Arthur and

Terra which is the system admin and AI

Currently, I’m only on chapter 11, but I’d like to give my two cents on some parts of this series and talk about some portions of Sareza’s review as well, though I do largely agree with it and actually find it to be a rare well made review.

For starters, this novel definitely is cliche, using several tropes you’d see out of other academy novels 1 to 1, just as Sareza mentioned in their review. Still, this isn’t inherently bad, especially if you’re looking exactly for a new academy novel to... more>> read, and I have found it entertaining. Especially the cheats segment; they aren’t just all unlocked immediately. If I had to compare this series to another, I’d probably put it close to Academy’s Time Stop Player, which is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.

Now, as for the inconsistencies/plot holes Sareza mentioned. While true a lot of things could’ve been explained better, almost all of the things they pointed out actually were explained or at least alluded to. That, or they’re actually a byproduct of being raised in Korea. For example:

1) The MC being good at combat. This is something quite a few novels with Korean MC’s touch on, to the point where most authors take it as a given at this point, but Korean Men specifically actually have mandatory military enlistment for 2 years, combat training included. This is in case of war time conscriptions happening, as well as general self defense. The MC mentions at one point he’s a 30-something Ajussi, meaning he’s long since gone through his enlistment.

2) MC describes himself waking up inside of an abandoned shack-like house with only a mattress in it. In chapter 11 he even talks about only owning the mattress, so he doesn’t have to take anything to school with him.

3) This one Saerza is completely right on. The items the MC gets in the beginning are barely elaborated on at all, if you could even call it that. Where he got the money to buy them, what they are, etc. all very poorly explained in a couple sentence long sequence. I too wish it was more elaborate on.

Now about the women falling for him... yeah this novel has no defense. The first girl got “curious” about him because he felt pity for her, and her intuition, not even a special power, sensed it? When she’s supposed to be a cold hearted women with affinity incredibly hard to raise? And then he just writes it off as her being different from the game. This part sucks. Luckily, I’m not here for the romance but for the power development, but if I was, I’m not sure I’d be able to sit through that kind of horrible development.

Also FFS. Thanks for the warning about
Spoiler

Arthur, Sareza. Might as well slap the name Artoria on him instead at this point since they’ve decided to go the Fate route. You’d think with 30, 000 hours in the game with max affinity for each character, supposed R19+ scenes included according to MC, that he’d at least mention Arthur’s actually a women.

[collapse]

Overall, Sareza’s 5/10 rating is definitely fair. I’d say my own personal one so far is around 7/10ish, but I’m quite lax with my novel standards at this point. I’d say the only things I can’t stand are horrific MTL and a certain type of “victim to lover” novels, and even that first one is starting to change slowly as I read more MTL, so take my own rating with a small grain of poorly tasting salt. <<less

Story is written in first-person (which means you're effectively reading their thoughts the entire time) and also weirdly including thoughts as internal monologue in addition to the regular first-person thoughts (everything else.) So it reads like an overly chatty schizophrenic who's either talking to themselves inside their head or to an imaginary audience (the reader.) And if the way this review comment is written bothers you, it's because the concept of encapsulating information down into unnecessary levels is redundant and annoying if it doesn't serve a thematic purpose. The author... more>> or translator chose this weird style, and it is unnecessary and annoying. <<less

It's a ton of fun. There are many academy templates that occur (such as island survival battle royale), but it usually felt like it was doing things its own way.

My only negative critique is the MC is a little OP even before he started growing and acquiring cheats. Once he starts growing and getting cheats there's some really satisfying whompings.

Also, although he gets more and more OP, the forces arrayed against him and the world are similarly strong and also overwhelmingly numerous, so there's genuine worry over whether MC will... more>> be able to protect everyone.

There's nothing super deep or revelatory, but if you're looking for an enjoyable modern fantasy/dimensional fusion academy story with an OP MC, then this is great. <<less
