Full disclosure, I am rating 5 stars here because I feel the novel deserves a rating higher than 3.6. Personally, I would rate it around 4 stars though.

I think that people rate this series low due to the early chapters. For the first 10 or so chapters, there really isn't much to say about it that is positive. MC's first life is really misery upon misery and then they die a miserable death. In their second life, they vow to exact revenge upon the people that killed them and their... more>> companions in their first life. 46 chapters in, there hasn't been much progress in that regard, but there are other merits to be found that lie outside this plotline.

Firstly, the other characters apart from MC are quite interesting and likeable. Anna and the Executor both have compelling backstories and, despite an initial impression of only being evil/villainous people, clearly have more to them than meets the eye.

Spoiler

All things considered, Anna isn't that bad at all seeing as she was artifically created and molded to become a living weapon. Her emotions were forcibly dulled through drugs and she was betrayed by the person she loved and trusted the most. Sure, she is a ruthless killing machine, but she isn't heartless and doesn't indiscriminately kill everyone/everything. For example, she helped Jae-hee when she was in a very bad spot with the CEO guy. Fair, she was only there because she was collecting debt, but she also tried in her own way to comfort Jae-hee after a clearly traumatising situation.

The Executor as well isn't a heartless person. Yes, she chose eternal beauty over strength that could've saved her father. It's a selfish choice, but she herself acknowledges that and heavily regrets it. She also helped Jae-hee deal with the other creepy old guy (not the CEO) that was chasing after her and helped with the aftermath when Jae-hee exposes everything regarding the mistreatment towards to the public.

[collapse]

I also really enjoy the interactions between MC and these characters. As one other reviewer put it, the MC is like a sopping wet cat. Truly girlfailure energy. That combined with her powerful bottom energy means she's the perfect yin to the yang that is the domineering Anna/Executor. There isn't any proper romance yet this early, but it's quite promising. Also, after the part with

Spoiler

Jae-hee and the MC getting frisky under the table under the influence of pheromones

[collapse]

it promises some potential for spicy (although unlikely to be R-18) scenes.

I know my review thus far focuses primarily on characters, but the plot so far really has been character-driven/centric. Chapters are mostly structured around a particular food/drink that is key to that particular mini arc. Usually,

Spoiler

the drink is directly tied to the backstory of a character that the MC sees through their ability (so far food has only been used twice and not for backstories)

[collapse]

As for the overarching plot, as mentioned earlier, there has been little progress there as of yet. However, we are only about 1/4 of the way through and just establishing proper relationships between MC and strong characters who can likely help her with her revenge plans. I think things will start progressing soon once the MC is out of the sticky situation they are currently in as of chapter 46 x)

Tl;dr - the beginning is a little rough, but give it a chance and read some more. Definitely deserves a higher rating than 3.6. <<less

Honestly, a really nice book with a good premise. I read through all the paid chapters and have completely finished the story now. I do want to say in advance, that I have a habit of being overly critical. It might sound like I dislike the book from this review, but no I actually really enjoyed it.

The main character is a really nice person, and I enjoyed how she would help everyone who came to the bar get into a better mindset. It felt like it could have been a... more>> little chapter of a book following a different character coming to a bar during a bad time in their life, only for the comforting atmosphere and kind bartender to help them back onto their feet and keep going. The first half really was an NPC bartender and I loved every moment of it.

I will say that it probably could have gone a little bit slower, maybe enjoy a more "slice of life" style in between the more serious plot beats. Especially near to the end, it seemed like the pacing I previously enjoyed with the "customer of the week" format straight up disappeared and started rushing the big bad evil guy and their machinations that need to be stopped.

They missed a number of scenes I would have liked to have seen such as:

Spoiler
  • Approaching Anna with the whole "Actually, I'm not the Si-Ho that was related to your dead lover"
  • The reconciliation with Ji-Soo. It was technically there, but it was a side note within a single chapter that resolved too quickly. There should have been drinks, probably a lot of crying, and definitely some s*x.
  • Any number of dates between Si-Ho and the other 3, most likely used to help Si-Ho accept her change in gender and generally establish her relationships with the harem.
  • Anna probably should have had a s*x scene where Si-Ho was actually sober from start to finish
  • In general there should have been group scenes where it shows the harem actually coming to terms with the others also loving Si-Ho
  • The final fight with the big bad was so disappointing, they just kinda fell over because yeah she's a politician, not a fighter. All the minions she had that were interesting were killed off halfway through the story and now all she has are randoms who "I swear they're actually really strong, trust me".
  • On that note, the most significant counter shown to us in the beginning, the one who killed Do-Hyun's entire party and started this entire thing, is off-screened. It's actually insane.
  • I want more unique customers at the end. Give me my bartender NPC scenes again!

Personally I think the story started off great, transitioned into a serious plot well, and then forgot how to transition back into what it was before the serious plot began. I can understand the larger plot being a means to an actual climax for the story, and don't get me wrong I do think the overarching plot is fine, I just think the pacing is hurt due to the lack of winding down. Because ultimately, this is a romance novel centred on a bartender living their everyday life trying to make things better for the people around her. There are action scenes, but they're not meant to be the focus and I feel like the author forgot that at some point.

Overall, great story but would have been better with a slower pace exploring relationship dynamics more. If the bartender vibes intrigue you and you're good with yuri s*x scenes occasionally, give this a try. I'd say it's worth a read. <<less

The story starts off very strong, but as of writing this there hasn't been any development towards plotting some sort of revenge from the MC, but I like where's the story is going right now. I very much like the relationship between the MC and the other characters, also I love the sopping wet cat energy of the MC, they're so pathetic <3.

If there was a misery tag, this story would need one.

I don't know if the story gets better with time, but up until now, there is nothing to root for or care about.

MC himself/herself doesn't seem to care all that much about anything, there are no side-characters to care about and there is nothing to strive or hope for.

I don't think you should make a story that's all about how miserable everything is. You need that miniscule hope to evoke emotions of dread or fear. Because if there is no... more>> contrast the picture turns black. If there is nothing but a black picture to look at you get bored. And if you get bored you stop reading a story after only 11 chapters.

The 3 stars are for the translator. He does good work, and I don't want to mess with his new project just because it's not my cup of tea. <<less

First 5-6 (?) chapters about mc's 1st life then he die! And became female ! But then it gets boring! I mean if you read first few chapters you would expect a revenge story but 2nd life (mind you world doesn't change or time didn't pass much too) it became a slice of life ! Change was little jarring!
