I'll start off by saying that this is a phenomenal story. Certain novels just really rope me in and this world makes sure you know exactly why everything is happening backed up by fictional world history. And it does this with good pace in my mind. Everything about this world is explained, even down to social attitudes. And I love that our MC takes on the role of not even a student but some bum ass librarian instead.

However.

I can understand being prideful in your country, but this? I don't even... more>> have words for. The nationalism in this novel is a malignant cancer the author can't manage to shut the f*ck up about for longer than three lines. They may as well have had only the nation of Korea exist in this world, considering it is the only powerful country, and which all others cream their pants at, and all would like very much to be stepped on by mommy Korea.

The author plays off his korea fetish as a joke that the og author was like that and a hefty helping would be understandable with that setting but I'm pretty sure this man had his Johnson out and was stroking it while he wrote most of this from how often characters must clarify just how great Korea is.

Even after saying all of this I still have not conveyed how intense the nationalism is. The English language does not have the words to describe this... or at least I don't when I'm this tired.

TL;DR: the author spends the whole book pissing and shitting at the thought of his home nation and somewhere in there is a fantastic story <<less

I really like this story for one reason: worldbuilding worldbuilding worldbuilding.

*note: this is technically a "transmigrated into a book" novel, except the character transferred into (the goblin) is basically completely unknown, and the theoretical main character of the book cannot be found.

To be honest, writing good superhero/villain universes is really hard. The general strategy is to give every individual some random special ability, usually with basically zero limits. This results in a weird power creep vs. suspension of disbelief dichotomy: at some point, the new power that's unveiled makes zero... more>> sense and has no real explanations, nobody knows why any of it is happening, and every in-universe scientist has taken a shotgun to their own face. This does not do that. Incredibly mild spoilers, but basically all superheroes have the ability to realize their imagination, and there's nothing stopping any individual from having any power set they want, as long as they properly understand what it is that they are doing. The thing that decides hero rank is skill and amount of mana, both of which can be increased. As the story goes on, it starts unfurling this massive web of corruption, propaganda, population manipulation, and hypocrisy that throws the entire concept of hero vs. villain for several loops. In many ways, it's a much more realistic or down to earth version of what a surveillance state would do with sudden superhero children.

This is what makes MC so strong (He's not quite OP, he's more or less specialized in single-target beatdowns and infiltration/escape). He is really good at realizing whatever he wants to, and specializes his fighting style for his opponents. This (and some book knowledge) makes him very good at coaching others on their powersets, by taking what he knows of their future powers and explaining how to realize them.

The general background story is that MC is a gentleman villain who works for <insert "evil" but for the good of the world bad guy group here> and his main job is killing other evildoers. For a bit of other background, South Korea is now the center of the world because it has the highest concentration of mana for some reason (and as such by living there you get stronger much faster). So he's ordered to go to the main hero academy and snoop around & convert heroes to his organization's side.

The story has this weird style of being obnoxiously pro-korean to a ludicrous degree (because the "original book" was written by a fanatic nationalist) and the MC being so fed up with it (but still very korean. the authorial voice is still a little too jazzed about Korea I'd say). you can mostly ignore it, but there's a lot of..... interesting? (read: insane) info about how world cultures have changed in this alternate reality.

There is harem/romance! for those afraid, don't worry it's not your standard "5 walking bundles of tropes and b**bs throwing themselves at a random guy for no reason" harem, as there's a lot of actually detailed conversations and interactions that feel at least plausibly real. There are deep conversations, and dates, and very little fan service type interactions. It's also worth noting that romance undercurrent is not the focus of the story, but also doesn't disrupt the main story, as his goal of "converting heroes to villains" can be pretty easily achieved through, well, you know. Generally, MC is aiming for friendship and gets a little confused when this overshoots his goals, but he's not a moron and also not morally pure so he'll use what he can. MC also kinda has a wife (the leader of the evil organization) and their interactions are fun. He won't make advances without her permission which is funnier. <<less

It’s a supervillain story at the academy. It’s got all the tropes and bs you can imagine. The characters are caricatures and your typical 200 iq boss villain little girl, etc. Bland main character, future knowledge of events etc. Etc.

I’m not going to judge you if you like this story- people should have fun reading- but there’s no humor or action or drama that you can’t find somewhere else. It’s painfully tr*shy, and there’s no suspense of disbelief. Even the explanations are just info dumps that really don’t make any... more>> sense.

In my opinion it’s crazy that people can make a living writing like this, but hey. Talent wouldn’t be talent if everyone had it. <<less

Although I'm still very, very early into the series, I have plausible reason to give it a 2-star. (Future me here, I dropped it to 1 star cuz it doesn't improve later and develops new issues.)

The first of which is the fact the story is improperly tagged. One of the main reasons I'm interested in this genre is to see the weak "side character" protagonist grow into a powerhouse over the course of many, many chapters, or at least someone strong enough to stand on par with others. This... more>> series, despite being marked Weak to Strong, gives none of that, as by the time we're introduced to the protagonist in chapter 1, he's an S-Class Villain, the strongest kind of villain there is.

The second reason is, translation. Now, for this, I don't blame SkyDemonOrder; their translations are usually top-tier, and I love a lot of the content they put out. Instead, I blame the author here. From what I can tell by glimpsing at the raws, they use a lot of overly complex/obscure terms and weird writing habits that make the story difficult to translate/read (for what little Korean I can) which is likely why this story has been improperly translated. Still, it feels like I'm in MTL hell half the time, and has given me a genuine headache trying to interpret some of what's going on.

The third and final reason is simply the cringe factor. Most of these stories tend to delve into "edginess" but in a way that still sets my inner teenager heart ablaze with feelings of "woah! That was kinda cool!" This, does not. The first villain we meet and see fought, around chapter 4~5, is a

and arbitrarily, mid fight, calls himself sh*t like "Dark Flame Phoenix." Edgy to the point of cringe, rather than bringing about feelings of excitement in me. Makes me wanna sigh just reading it.

I'm gonna keep giving it a chance for now but damn do these 3 things just completely kill my reading mood.

Edit 1:

I've progressed a bit further into the story now and only really have more complaints.

To start, the power system; really, there isn't one. We got to see "stats" one time without any real explanation or regard as to what stats should normally be like meaning we have zero actual frame of reference for strength. Doesn't seem like they're gonna show up again either. And as far as abilities and strength growth go, they're hands down the worst I've ever seen. There is no exaggeration when I say all superpowers are "random bullsh*t I thought up just now go!" If someone imagines something they want to happen "good enough" (whatever that means) then it will happen. MC, who's supposed to be a "goblin" or whatever (not all all based on fantasy or mythological goblins, he just wears a mask and beats people with sticks) just

fired a f*cking golden laser bean out of his weapons with no explanation, has a magical sci-fi belt that lets him transform, and can basically create whatever he wants with barely any thought. It's broken as hell and supposedly anyone else could do it too if they just imagine hard enough.

All form of power scaling, ability growth, or basically anything that'd balance this universe has been thrown out the damn window from almost chapter 1 and now it's just outright confusing trying to figure out what's going on. I'm going to give this story a heavy third chance since I'm out of other things to read and keep pushing through these muddy waters for a bit longer to see if it at all gets better, but if it doesn't, I'm going to drop it, as well as lower my rating from 2 stars to 1.

TLDR this is an exceptional 8 out of 10 novel, bordering on 9. Focused entirely on the characters and the world setting, with heavy philosophical/ moral aspects to it. Like someone wishes to change a corrupt system from the inside whereas another wants to abolish it entirely and start anew. It goes in depth about the 'phenomenon' that led to 'mana' coming to earth and the societal and economic impact it has had. It also has quite decent action elements in it. (the academy part is almost nonexistent)

It is... more>> much, much more than the tr*shy synopsis/ description makes you think. Not that these recent korean novel synopses are any good. That aside let me quickly get these 2 misconceptions out of the way-

    • 1- "this novel is obnoxiously pro-korean nationalistic" This novel is SATIRE. It constantly criticizes this 'nationalism' as propaganda and brainwashing meant to control the public. In fact, this propaganda is one of the core story points in the novel that the government uses. Its like- "Oh? You're Approaching Me?"

      "I can't beat the sh*t out of you without getting closer."

      of course the story talks about the over-the-top shallow nationalism, how else can it criticize that? Also no the (irl) author is not secretly jerking himself off while writing all this because he's 'secretly' nationalistic. He actually called the government and its mindless supporters as "CulturalTaliban", you cannot possibly convince me he secretly meant this as a compliment. That they truly carry out domestic terrorism and human experiments, blaming it on the 'villains' if found. Also other countries too are brought up from time to time and no they are not perfect either.
    • 2- "the MC transmigrated into some noname goblin villain". This is 100% not true. the goblin in the 'original novel' was the MAIN villain throughout. The goblin was the first and the last boss. Its the kind of villain that grew along with the original protagonist culminating with the goblin actually *succeeding* to 'win' over the protagonist, and the protagonist then destroys the world in annoyance. So no, it wasnt some random guy. He became the primary antagonist.
So aside from these baseless concerns what is left? Its a romance/ harem novel. Basically almost entirely about the overarching world plot + romance with ideological discussions sprinkled in. A large part of the romance even based on the philosophical discussions they have. It builds the world from ground up. That these super powered individuals appeared after the year 2000 thus the governments do everything in their power to control them. That if their ego 'breaks' they turn to the darkness. The 'darkness' here is not some metaphysical satan but the 'inner demons' that are often brought up in martial arts novels. The surface form of imitating satan is only their imagination at work. That these children are seen as 'tools'. That non-superpower babies are abandoned and more and more.

It does have its flaws however. The over insistence on the MC's 'body' and that he's just so damn handsome only serves to dilute the truly good points about him. The MC also sometimes blatantly tries to mislead the reader, he says at the start that he's only a villain because of capitalism except that is 100% not the case as is stated later on, its purely due to ideals. The pacing also has issues, the author builds a beautiful picture of a bridge and shoes on the side and a basket nearby and the MC panicking after seeing the basket and taking it and running... Then right after that it destroys all the nuance by simply telling you the 'what happened'.

Overall like I said it still is an extremely good novel that I would definitely recommend you read if you like these genres (that I mentioned, most of the tags here on NU are technically true but also misleading.) <<less

This novel could've gotten a better score if the Author would just stop talking about Korea for one second. In this novel, the author manages to make talking about South Korea nationalism core part of the story. It's fine for the first few chapters, but when they brought it up for the 50th time, it really turned me off.

If you don’t think too hard, then this novel is pretty decent and deserves its 3.6ish rating.

The first and biggest issue with this novel is that the MC hates the novel he’s migrated into. At first it felt like a gag when the MC complains about the plot points every other chapter. Then after a dozen chapters, you get the feeling that the real author just using this gimmick to cover try and cover the bad plot points (of the actual story) and to insert overused troupes.

3.6 is way too low for a rating for a novel this good. It's not perfect, I know, but it deserves way better than 3.6 star rating.

The annoying thing about this novel is the "Nationalistic" settings, sometimes about half of the chapter is only about how that "Nationalistic" world's common sense differed from the real world, and it's filled with weird dialogue and whatnot that make no sense, so I just skipped all that bit everytime I see it. It's annoying too that to make "Nationalistic" settings more dramatic, author... more>> purposefully make distinction between English and Korean words, so the translator team often didn't translate Korean words like organization names so I don't know the meaning of those names, while English words stay as English. All of that is somewhat a part of the plot point, you'll know why after you read it. I'll spoil it (big spoiler warning) for those who don't mind reading it:

I repeat, it's a big spoiler, so read at your own risks. The main villain grup is a diehard korean nationalist psychopath. They make Ability User to be a 'demon' so that korean hero can use the demon as an experience point to grow themselves and get rid of useless heroes. Note that 'demon' here is an english word, because they think that bad things can't be named by korean words, and because 'demon' is an english word so it's fine. The government too, is the enemy of MC, as they (I assume) is the one behind those demon making groups and nationalistic groups. They control information through media, brainwash hero since they're a child so they won't betray the country, and get rid of those that may betray them later.

One more thing about this that I don't like is how almost every important characters are women, that personally I think they're harem member candidates. There's too much women characters here, and their favorability towards MC at the beginning of their meeting are developed too quickly. Fortunately, the process from how they love MC to how they accept themselves as his harem member is interesting, not boring, and somewhat realistic (of course, based on that world's distorted common sense).

There are NSFW chapters too and each have their own illustration, which is a plus. The web clearly warn you if you going to read that kind of chapters, and as of chapter 127 there's nothing important plot-wise in those chapters, so you can skip those safely if you're not comfortable with it. <<less

I don't think I can honestly read this anymore. It's just too much.

the story? I like it. Someone who is pulled into another 'world' 'dimension' 'timeline' is still pretty unique to me, so I honesty enjoy it. Isekai's of the type where the MC is s**ked into a midevil culture setting and are now 'hero's' are really overused. (I still enjoy them) But here, coming to a world that's pretty much the same timeline, but is full of superhero's is still fresh to me.

1. Where the MC was obsessed with the main hero, and did it to raise her.

2. Where the MC took all the old stories 'villians' and stopped them from having to become evil.

both honestly were decent, pretty sure both were Korean stories as well. One thing both had in common tho were terrible translations. Kinda like here.

it's not really the grammar that's a problem, but the perspective. ITS SO HARD TO TELL WHO IS TALKING AND WHO IS WHO?! Also, did they change the organizations name like part way thru between ch's 20-40?
like literally my last chapter I read the MC was calling a 'director' but several times it seemed both the MC and the 'director' called each other director. For once they made it distinguishable between the 2 of them who was talking, but then they pulled this. Also there was an extra in the conversation so a few times it could have also been them.

sometimes the conversation makes no sense but that's easy to skip, it's kind of constant thought. Couple that with it being rough to tell who is actually speaking makes it quite the nightmare. Someone like me can never immerse themselves in the story for one, and 2. It makes it hard to continue to devote attention to it in the first place when I can simply find a better novel instead of having to handle the headache that is this story. (New rant, the powers are so obscure and hard to follow. Like the ice heroine is really kinda simple to understand. But goblins? His seems to be confusing. At first it was the bat, and his control of mana no? Unless they have the damn type in their name it's hard to fully realize what they can do.

if I had to pick one bad thing about this novel and the MC, is he is really insecure. He's constantly debating internally if the hero's or people he is talking to know of his secret, or if he's being suspected for anything. Or is complaining about the cost of chicken)

but! The real problem. THE DAMN RACISIM! It's so full of it! The super humans racisim toward the non super humans, the Koreans vs all other races. Like f*ck.

if the whole story wasn't so chock full of that being an issue the rest of the story so far is about the Koreans of this story believing all other races are against them and are out to steal from them. In this case being stealing the means for more power.

then to turn the translations perspective making things confusing it's well overlaid with Korean history, and phrases.

the clothings names in Korean, the places in Korea, food names, and ingredients on the way to making it, the ways of calling people in Korean. Most of the info dumps aren't for the story to progress, or world building. They are for dumping Korean culture into the story. Normally when you read Korean, and Japanese web novels there is sprinkled in some of the culture and a lot of times explanations because to that people of different races and nationalities often don't know how to speak their language, or what everything is called, the geography, food, pet names, family titles, etc.

but here we have none of that. The only thing I've understood as a reader of many novels that have required translation is the term oppa. Just like in Japanese novels you often hear onii-chan or onee-chan.

but this is too much for me. You read and you will learn about wedding dress names, formal ware, clothing type names, street names, history, geography, the term and how it's not represented in Korean culture the same as other places for the term goblin. Etc.

so. If there ever is a similar novel that appeals to any nationality, and is pretty flexible I'd love to hear this story again. As it sits tho, I'm out. <<less

Good at first, then meh.

Basically this is a realistic (as opposed to shounen genre, I guess) take on what would a world like that in Hero Academia be, with a bit of extra tokusatsu (think Power Rangers) vibe. Makes me think of Evil Organization's Recruitment Ad too.

Anyway, the idea is pretty good with the MC being an... anti-hero protagonist, I guess. Except the very beginning which was kind of mediocre, I liked the story afterwards when MC was incognito and nobody knew who he was. It was quite fun to... more>> see him being suspected or evading suspicion and trying to seduce chicks. However, once he seduced them and everyone knew everyone's identity, it became boring. These spy-like antics and, for a lack of better word, clashes were the life of this novel IMO, and when the author put everything on the table, it became boring.

I think one of the main reasons that the author screwed up is that the main chicks in the evil organization the MC belongs to are

already his harem, even the leader. While it was fun to gradually suspect that the leader was his, and I see no problem with it, the problem was that when the executives appeared later, there was no suspense and it feels like bland wish fulfillment. I think it'd have been so much more enjoyable if only the leader was MC's wife at first, and then he gradually conquered heroes and villains alike with those entertaining spy games like with the two heroes. Now the most fun element of these relationships was taken out, and things just became boring.

Now, to briefly address some particular elements.

There are unique, if not particularly deep, characters, but that mostly applies to heroes and villains. The secret society that MC belongs to seems to be a weak spot in this area because the two executives introduced so far were really bland and boring.

The protagonist was likable (despite being a scum), but bland in the long run. I also feel a bit disgusted with his manipulative casanova ways (I have no issue with a harem, but I look down on hypocritical PUA things).

The harem can be split into two categories: already existing at the start and gained later. The former is bland tr*sh, the latter was the interesting one with all kinds of maneuvers, scheming, and gradual progress, and I had fun at least as long as there was still some progress to be made.

Btw, this novel has plenty of R18 scenes. They're not bad, but some are meh. Maybe it's a matter of personal preference.

The plot was majorly carried by the harem/romance subplots when MC's relationships were progressing. When there's none of this, the story becomes considerably less interesting or enjoyable.

The setting is ok. Nothing new, but ok, and the author actually put some effort into considering how the world would change with the superpowers' appearance.

As one guy in the reviews noted, nationalism here is horrible. There's a 50-50 chance that this is a satire, however, so as long as you think that way, there's no problem getting through it (I only skipped two places because I couldn't endure the nationalistic gibberish in a whole 250 chapters). My personal guess is that the author made it intentionally hard to tell: nationalistic viewers can enjoy KOREA NUMBA WAN, and those who dislike it and/or are fed up with it can see that as a satire and enjoy making fun of it.

Overall, I can recommend this read. Don't be discouraged by the slightly meh start. However, if you stop enjoying this novel later at some point, I'd advise you don't force yourself to read it. It won't get better fast. <<less

The cringey title translation and vague synopsis make this novel seem much shittier than it actually is, it's actually pretty decent. The people gushing about the worldbuilding are funny though, just because the author decided to explain why fried chicken costs more than marinated chicken in fascist dystopian superhero South Korea, you guys act like this is the Silmarillion or something.

MC is just a moderately self-interested guy trying to live his life after transmigrating to a novel he left a bad review for, but it turns out being a supervillain... more>> pays extremely well, so he accepts a job killing other villains that are dangerous to society so that the world is a better place when the boss of his supervillain organization eventually takes over the world. He is eventually assigned to infiltrate Korea's superhero academy (the academy is built atop a meteor which is the source of mana/superpowers) as a plain librarian in order to recruit one of the top superheroines and any other potential heroines to their organization (because humanity and the various governments like Korea are pretty evil as well since the world now revolves around superhumans and "might makes right") which is why he is "advising" the heroines. <<less

Just keep aside the story and all.. when you see the world building of this novel it's almost near to perfect like.. author really did a great job there like... you don't even see any plot holes in the world building and all... the existence of fantasy elements are perfectly blended andto the point seem like something that already existed.

The back stories of characters are perfectly described.

And about characters..

They rea well well written and harem element is also dealt really well.. doesn't even seem forced anywhere.. heroines have real characters..... more>> and pace may seem slow. but it's just because of the world building <<less

So a modern world hero/villain story with high harem "aspect". Story is so silly that you either will enjoy it or hate it, to a point I was asking myself wtf is happening. Still Its not bad either, story pacing and structure is good, characters have more than two braincell, but the weird setting issue and nationalist propaganda of that fictional world ruined it for me. And that's even without the hiding identity/misunderstandings/harem stuff which is like core of a story.
