Had to give up on this one.

Spoiler

They are in love with each other, MC confesses while the FL is drunk, and then later, when she asks him if that was real, he pretends it was just a dream, because he can't confess to her yet, since he is afraid of hurting her (this immediately hurts her immensely, and MC reaction is along the lines of "If only I could tell her how I really feel...")

[collapse]

A decent chunk os this story is dedicated to the leads throwing pity parties in their heads, and coming up with convoluted ways to get over their trauma. <<less

So far I'm loving the series, its one of the few stories where a character reforming feels somewhat satisfying.

Before I go a bit more indepth in a spoiler I just want to say I disagree with Giernold's rating, while they are right that not much exciting has happened yet I think the reason it feels slow to them is due to them being current with the translation. I started the series only an hour or so ago and I'm already current and at least for me it feels like its... more>> progressing a little fast if anything.

Spoiler

One of the things I like about this story is the reform, it feels a lot better than most reforms in novels but I do wish the author went a bit more into reluctance of staying how he is. Just a few lines of him thinking about giving up and then suppressing it by remembering the story in his previous life and how she never yielded. At least currently while it is satisfying I feel like its a bit lacking on realistic character actions since a human would naturally want to rest and give up when working this hard, so by adding a point of weakness I think it would show how strong his will is to resist.

Another thing that the story seems to be going for so far and I really hope it stays this way is that this is not a harem novel. I'm not saying this because I have something against harems (Well, I do) but because most harem novels end up being more wish fulfillment than romance and with how this story is going so far I really want this to be a romance between the two.

[collapse]

Last thing is I just want to say that the translation has been really good so far and just want to show a bit of support for the translator. I'm loving the series and hope you continue translating! <<less

Great novel, if put in "novelupdates" standards.

Some parts seems like nonsense behavior? Yeah, like 99, 9% novels. Past those it's very nice

Very centered on the MC and FMC, almost 0 place for other characters. This is what I would call a Romance and Slice of Life novel!

r-18 isn't here for nothing, if you're too young don't read this. Those r-18 parts have a very sensual feeling in my POV, makes it better than plain stuff. (Male MC reader here)

Would recommend it for every romance-male MC-lover.

Decent, but a bit boring.

Dozens of chapters in and so far I haven't seen a single bit of actual attraction from the MC to the love interest.

There's all these big dramatic shows of dedication, but not so much as a "I think the scales are pretty actually", or "despite everyone thinking she's ugly, she's actually pretty".

I can't tell if he's just sticking with her because he knows she'll be pretty in the future because of the book or if he actually is interested in her as she is now. Maybe... more>> this'll change soon, but a few dozen chapters in and stuff that seems like it'd be pretty important for a romance novel, especially one with a male MC, are somewhat overlooked.

Overall, this reads like it was written for women, and the dragon girl is the real MC, while the supposed male MC is the stereotypical perfect prince love interest. <<less

I tried to read it and got to chapter 26 but the MC is quite boring, Imagine a yes man with no personality. Admittedly he is doing this for a good reason but when I read his and the fML dialogues I always imagine him having a blank face.

I have read one novel slightly similar to this and it's name is regressor and the blind saint, MC is also a yes man but the author did better at letting us look at his current thought.

Basically story and premise... more>> is good but MC is boring. <<less

So far it's ok, the romance/redemption part is nice and heart warming, and I definitely recommend that for people into it, but :

    • It's kinda simple character wise, sadly.
    • MC isn't a simpleton, but he isn't really clever either, I wish he was more intelligent.
    • The translation is not horrible, but it really needs an editor.

The content is pretty good but the story is very, very slow. Each chapter doesn't have much content. I love the premise, and it's being translated quickly so I have high expectations, it's just that it's not that exciting yet.

Cute story.

Some GoT vibes with their medieval society and other things in later chapters.

And yeah, the princess tickles me off, she isn't needed at all but because she is a princess both ML and FL have to let her stick her nose on their affairs.

Because she tries to be...

Spoiler

"The villainess" she read about in some child story to bring the leads together, but she gives the vibes of being more like a rival to ML than to FL like in those stories.

Luckily she went out the window pretty fast (and I hope it stays like that) after doing 2 annoying things:

Spoiler

-touch FL's horns in the first meeting when ML needs 42 chapters to do so.

-Wanted to dance with FL but ended dancing with ML cuz FL couldn't do the male part of the dance.

It's okay. Certainly not bad, I'd even say it's a decent romance WN. However, the male MC doesn't really feel like the actual MC since there's so many pov shifts to the FL. Also the ML feels super bland, and he's written to be almost robotic at times. Sometimes he feels like less of a character and more of a plot device to raise the FL's confidence.

Despite the 'male protagonist' tag this was definitely written for women. Also, neither here nor there, but sometimes the bland af MC whines... more>> about how h**ny he is nonstop as if m*sturbation hasn't been invented yet. <<less

I gave this a 5 star because of the rarity of single romance completed stories out there, much less with a dragon waifu, and it deserves a ton of publicity. That being said, it really should get a 4 star. When it's good, it's REALLY good, with devoted love interests, good plot, definitely good enough side characters, and adorable fluff. TONS OF FLUFF. It's pretty slow-burn when it comes to the relationship, but not glacially slow.

There are some major negatives though.

Some preface though, as the summary is woefully incomplete. Guy... more>> was a very emotionally stunted hunter/awakener type character from a post-apocalyptic world (possibly Earth, who knows). But he managed to actually awaken some humanity there due to some inspiring moments and stories, and from then lived as much as he could as a total hero. Society's morals had decayed, so he spent his time trying to improve them. Then he died, and reincarnated as this angry brute type second son with a Dragon-girl fiancé - who was the protagonist of the story that inspired him so in his first life. When he awoke his past life's memories, it inspired a total personality change. So it definitely was him who treated the dragon-waifu like tr*sh (not like a soul occupying a villain's body, who didn't do it). As a result, much of the story's conflict is not about the plot - which is actually pretty decent - but rather about the two main leads overcoming their own personality issues. In her case, severe self-esteem issues and not trusting him because of his hurtful past, and for him, it's the fact that he still theoretically has those violent/brutish impulses within him (it never comes up, possibly because he tries so hard to suppress them).

So anyway, there are a few problems with the story. The author does a decent job of wrapping up several of the issues and making the growth seem good and natural, but unfortunately sometimes just... fails at moving on, and decides to harp on the same issues over and over again. So after Adilun (dragon-waifu) gets mostly over her self-esteem issues, suddenly the focus is on Phrysis (MMC), and he becomes a bundle of low-self-esteem himself.

Another example is that there is this one arc, maybe 10 chapters long (10% of the total story!) that is just awful and s*upid and literally has no consequences. For whatever reason, after she's improving and finally starting to accept him, she makes up this asinine plan to go to a local nobles party, and pretend to be hateful to each other so they can draw out people who wish them ill-will. They don't bother to tell either of their families (who already have a negative impression of the MMC), don't think about how this might affect politics, and so on. This is also on top of the fact that their new relationship is SUPER fragile and new -he's had a change of heart but she is only just beginning to trust him.

Oh, and then the entire arc is just resolved and NOTHING comes of it, ever. No one mentions it. No political deals happen. No enemies are revealed. Nothing. It was a pointless arc to add melodrama, with poor reasons and no fallout.

Also, the ending introduces a 'plot twist' that makes no sense at all (it creates more plot holes), and again, is handwaved away. Spoilers below, and they're major:

Spoiler

It's revealed that the 'inner voice' that's been torturing him with WAAANGST the entire time is actualllyyyyyy.... the monster he died too in his first life! Who is actually Adilun, after she turned evil and destroyed her own world, then invaded his! What the f*ck? Also, paradox! She says that he was originally Phrysis, and was the reason she went evil, and then killed him. Where he then reincarnated into his 2nd life... who fights monsters because of a story where Adilun was a hero... and dies to Adilun... then he goes back in time and she somehow lives inside of him because of a 'primeval Evil' inside of him. What? WHAT???

Then, to cap off this nonsense, he apologizes to evil!Adilun, but she dies, because the evil inside of him is gone (it... has been for ages? why is she dying NOW?). Then Evil!Adilun 'somehow' (feeling like Disney right now) goes inside the current happy dragon-waifu, and the kind one decides to merge with the evil one. Yet somehow 100s of years of Evil!Adilun's memories aren't overwriting 7 months of happiness that the current story gave her (even though they actually directly said they would, and in fact set a precedent that they would with how Phrysis worked). End result? Adilun doesn't change at all personality wise (even though it said she did), gains even more magical powers, and has a few scales on her cheeks.

....

Long story short, the author tried to create a plot hole to fill it instantly, with zero consequences or changes. Nothing came of it, for no reason. No conflict was resolved (that wasn't added 1 chapter ago). Totally pointless.

[collapse]

Actually, I suppose there was a single consquence: the author then decided to use that as a way to ignore all hanging plot threads. At least 2 plot threads are just completely wrapped up by saying 'oh yeah, I now know the answer to this because future memory!' (totally ignoring the other 50 plot threads that were set up and dropped.

So yes, there are some rather large problems with the story. That being said, it's still GOOD. I wouldn't call it great at all, too many issues, but it's got a single romance, with themes of redemption and forgiveness, and at times it's SOOOO FLUFFY. Great fluff romance. And it's complete.

Oh, and there's some seriously spicy scenes. Not until ~70 chapters in at the earliest, but they definitely do exist and are on the level of smut.

TL;DR: 4 star story, great fluff, and complete. I gave it 5 because it could use the publicity and bump to the ratings. <<less

Three things

First, the relationship was genius. Unlike most novels, TV shows, and other media, the protagonist and love interest do not just immediately fall in love after forgiving each other. In fact, they choose specifically to delay their relationship in order to grow the love and trust they feel for each other. They show actual maturity and create real boundaries in their relationship.

Second, there is literally an integration with the shadow in both characters. Fulfilling the Jungian philosophy, both characters accept the negative sides of their personality that they wish... more>> to conceal and then grow beyond them. In most stories, the characters either don't have a shadow (which is s*upid) or the "integrate the shadow" by becoming an edge lord. Neither character does that here and instead they both grow as genuine human beings.

Third and finally, the MC who was a terrible guy actually has to bear the burden of his sins. He doesn't just get to escape from the past by treating people nice again, he has to sacrifice for his past. <<less

It's a pretty engaging sweet romance story in a fantasy world setting where MC transmigrates. The whole premise is about MC feeling guilty over his past actions as jerk to his fiance and everyone around him and thus trying to change that. As for why and how well that's a spoiler, no?

But over time as expected he develops feelings for certain someone and falls head over heels for her 🥰

So this is cute romantic story with in between fighting scenes since we are in fantasy world and obviously both male... more>> and female leads are special charcters within it so enjoy the ride <<less

It would be a lie to say that it started strong. I mean after the first 10 or 20 chapters there was a lull where... the story wasn't so bad but it did make me wish for a time skip or something. It starts to pick up after chapter 50 or something and from there, the story's great. Like its genuinely good. I do think that the author intended the story to have more chapters, as the a major aspect of the story was phased through rather conveniently but at... more>> the end of the day, we all came here for the romance and the romance is great. I must warn you that there are some rather explicit moments. Like.... really explicit. The R18 tag was used to its full potential. <<less

Tbh a every fun and wholesome read... its not perfect and there were some parts that arnt very fleshed out, my only flaw with this novel is that it feels pretty rushed, it ends at ch 99 and literally from ch 1 - ch 99 only about 6 months passed... so I was reading while throwing that to the back of my mind, because it really diminished alot of the novel if I thought about it.

It was a 3/5 rating for me until the plot twist. I liked how it was written and interwoven within the story up to that point.

I liked their relationship but I didn't find it fully romantic either.
Spoiler

On getting to the end, and seeing the MC himself say, he didn't really have any friends, I sighed and nodded internally, 'yep, this was the problem I had'. The MC for most times even though I liked his character development didn't always feel like a fully individual character. It felt like only one thing signified his character which made me (unfortunately I still can't explain it well) not relate with him fully or engage their romance. Bland would be a bit harsh and not what I'm looking for, but most times, him and their relationship up to the middle of the novel felt similar to that.

His proposal was sweet though 🥺

[collapse]

Irregardless, I enjoyed the novel, and I would recommend it to you who is checking out the reviews. Read it yourself. It might just be a story for you.
