I Became the Lousy Side Top

One day, Jaewoo found himself possessing a character inside of a story. And not just any character, but a lousy side top who rented out a room in a slum to the poor main character of the novel! He was fated to be killed by the main top part way through the story.

So he made up his mind! He’s going to try his best to support the main character while avoiding the main top in order to save his life.

Patpatpat.

Jaewoo piled up a mountain of rice into the bowl. He placed it in front of Hyunjin and Mujin, who were sitting around the table, and pulled apart the freshly-made kimchi with his bare hands. Then he scooped up a spoonful of rice, rolled it with kimchi, and held it up to Hyunjin’s mouth.

“Eat.”

At Jaewoo’s words, Hyunjin blinked slowly. It seemed he couldn’t understand why he was doing this.

“Eat, eat first and then we’ll talk.”

Gulp. Was that the sound of drool coming from somewhere?

So I am conflicted.

It started really good. But then when the Crazy Mujin or smth came in I was like.... red black dark angst flags. Skipped a couple of ch to see were this is going. Not a fan of Angst and tragedy at all. Hope later it is not. And honestly the MC is a little s*upid in some situation. With the young ML (i think he is the ML) its actually cute but with Big Crazy Sadistic Wolf - not really.

For now waiting to see were it is... more>> going. <<less

This is a cooking novel disguised as a BL hahah Jokes aside, the story is pretty decent, with the MC's affection being fought over by 2 red flag men.

Spoiler

ML 1 is overly dependent, while ML 2 is obsessively clinging to him. There is a even a 3rd ML appearing later on, and he's the worst of the lot

[collapse]

A tolerable level of drama and angst, with plenty of sweetness from the main CP and the kids in the story. I love ML 1's younger brothers. The plot twists were pretty surprising, although there were some pretty questionable points about the fantasy part, but those were simply glossed over for the sake of the pacing, which I don't mind much. I am not sure whether these questions were answered in the side stories as I was unable to find and read them. <<less

I thought this would be a silly little manhwa, turns out it was SO ANGSTY AND MADE ME CRY IN FRUSTRATION. First off, the translation was pretty good, the first 97/105 chapters were available so it was very easy to read. The last few chapters though I had to find it on ridibooks and read it using Google Translate and that was DIFFICULT lmao. But regardless this was really good.

The manhwa does miss a lot of things that the novel has. I didn't finish the manhwa but I did finish... more>> the novel and I really liked it!! Along with the transmigration plot, there is also a lot of cooking. It was a good surprise tbh, there were lots of details about Jaewoo's cooking and his recipes. The beginning was pretty easy to understand as well, even though its the classic isekai trope, it was enjoyable because it was more than that. Jaewoo was a really enjoyable character. He was a genuinely good person and he really cared for Hyeonjin and his two younger brothers. Speaking of the two younger brothers, THEY'RE SO CUTE. They were adorable and so understanding of Hyeonjin and the sacrifices they made for him. The little scene where they were getting bullied but they told Hyeonjin everything was alright so he wouldn't be even more stressed made me SO SAD. I loved Hyeonjin's character and his inner conflict as he started to fall in love with Jaewoo even though he did like a complete 180. I actually liked Mujin tbh. NOT ENOUGH TO GET SECOND LEAD SYNDROME THOUGH. I don't get how people wanted Jaewoo to be with Mujin, like dude choked him out on their first meeting?? I did like how Mujin realized that he loved him, it was really sweet to see. Even if I didn't want them to be together. JAEWOO AND HYEONJIN R PERFECT FOR EACHOTHER IDC IDC. I really liked the angst near the end as well and the slow romance progression.

Something I really liked about this book is that there isn't any smut scenes. I find it difficult to really connect with BL books because it seems like most of the time its just smut with an addition of plot sometimes. Its pretty fetishy and just uncomfortable to read. But this was just sweet and a progression of their feelings towards each other. The ending sort of arc was pretty confusing though. I don't understand the third male lead and his sister. If she wanted to get rid of Jaewoo she should've just sent him to the other world and not try to keep him in his original world?? I dont know. But regardless it ended on a sweet note and I enjoyed reading this! <<less

Aaaaahhhhh, they're so sweet, your honor 😭😭😭

I enjoyed this novel alot, although I admit it has a lot of flaws. It's not a masterpiece kind of story, but it was entertaining and emotional ride for me. Mostly domestic fluff, with healthy dose of angst sprinkled here and there, A LOT of food and cooking (yup, it's a cooking novel, beside being BL). Zero of "I'm straight!!!" nonsense, but it is very slow burn, despite main couple basically being old married couple with kids and both of them always trying to... more>> sacrifice anything just to make the other's life happy. MC basically looked at the poor ML and decided that he WILL make ML happy, no matter what it takes!

For cons:

it's pretty damn sappy, so if it's not your cup of tea - feel free to avoid.

The "plot" is pretty much non existent, besides relationship drama and development. Author chose to just gloss over technicalities, so it's a purely romance and drama driven plot. Luckily, I really really liked their little family, and cared deeply for main characters and their pain.

I'm glad that my prediction about male leads being the same person didn't come true, I actually don't like this trope in danmei)

This novel was fulll of domestic bliss, with two gay dads figuring their relationship, raising 2 kids and enjoying delicious food (>o<)

In some moments it got pretty damn angsty and beautifuly painful, mostly from Hyunjin's (ML's) POVs. I REALLY related to MC and him just wanting Hyunjin (ML) to be happy cuz HE'S SO PRECIOUS, MY CINNAMON ROLL, THEY COULDN'T TURN U TOXIC EVEN WHEN THEY TRIED-

..... anyways-

I liked the ending, I liked the slow burn and I also liked how author handled smut (WHICH IS ONLY IN EXTRA, so if don't want smut - you're safe, just skip exta 1) and didn't turn it into noncon.

Spoiler

I also liked open-hopeful ending for Mujin, this is first time I see second lead's ending being handled like this in any genre or media type,

so, pretty cool. anyways, hope dear translator has comfortably cool pillow on both sides for the rest of their life! Thanks for their service💝 <<less

-1 star coz I feel like the story dragged midway. Overall, it's sweet, while I crie a ton. There are 3 MLs, like I luv the second ML OCCASIONALLY my heart breaks for him too hahahahaha I also luv the 2 kids and I crie for them as well

Pacing. I skipped few chaps na I assume unimportant coz it does not affect my reading. As per relationship, it makes sense and not borable (eme)

Plot wise: there's pinch of fantasy coz uhm transmig?. But ayern, the plot is plotting. Tho... more>> the twist is not as twisting as it should be twisting coz im not twisted. Coz I can already picture their ending halfway the story, aside from 3rd ml's appearance that is kinda out of place but atleast filled some plot holes tas ayern wala sya sa hulog. HAHAHAHAHAH

Overall, I luv it coz of the roller coaster emotions it gave me or prolly coz ive read this during depressive time of the day eme. Its heartbreaking. <<less
