I transmigrated as the hidden mastermind who betrays everyone at the story’s end.

Since I wasn’t particularly interested in the destruction of the world, I was just leisurely waiting for the ending…

“You are the only one who has ever seen my drawing of a boa constrictor properly.”

“When I make plans to meet you at 4, my heart starts racing from 3… Is this what it means to be tamed?”

For some reason, the heroines keep showing interest in me.

Only 5 chapters in and already around 4-5 female characters are introduced and no male side characters aside from minor villains are. Maybe it will get better, but this is a red flag for the tr*shier sort of harem where everything will revolve around the heroines so that the MC can "save them to prevent bad end" and collect them like Pokemon.

Ch. 48 : I read more, and all I can say is that, it was pretty decent. I'll only drop my review to 4 stars. Tbh, it was cliche as hell, and the POV switches is kinda annoying, they just repeated the exact same scene but with another character's perspective, and it covers half of an entire chapter.

TL;DR: This novel's about an MC who transmigrates into a game as an overpowered final boss in a fantasy world with a Korean academy twist. The writing is solid, with a bold and funny MC who's a bit of a bastard. It leans on familiar tropes but has unique touches, like characters inspired by The Little Prince. It's got potential, and while it's still early, I'd give it an 8/10 for now.

This review... more>> is heavily subjective and based on my personal opinion, it's a bit early so consider it more like a first impression or a poison testing, rather than a final judgment.

To start, the story follows an MC who's transmigrated into a game he knows inside and out, only to find himself as the final boss and traitor, a role that's extremely overpowered. The setting is your classic fantasy world with a Korean academy twist, and what's interesting is that some characters are inspired by the timeless classic The Little Prince. I haven't read that book myself, but it adds a unique flavor to the novel, according to some of the comments.

As for the writing, it's pretty solid, especially if you're familiar with the author's other work, Depressed Kendo. I'm a big fan of OP MCs, so I'm admittedly biased. The story includes some convenient plot devices, like the MC's "Composed and Smiling Trait, " where everything he says gets twisted into something suspicious, leading to constant misunderstandings. He also has a unique ability called "Lies, " which literally forces him to lie. It's an insanely overpowered skill that can turn his lies into truth, somewhat like All Fiction, but with conditions. The MC isn't your typical cliché protagonist, he doesn't hesitate to take action and isn't naive or shy around women. He's a bit of a bastard, but his dialogues and monologues have a funny edge that makes him a compelling character.

While the story does lean on some familiar tropes, I think it has a lot of potential. The cliches don't bother me since I enjoy this type of narrative. For now, I'd give it an 8/10, acknowledging that it's still early chapters and this is by no means a final score. But based on what I've seen so far, this novel could definitely grow into something great. HOPIUM <<less

Unfortunately despite the potential, this novel is the author's power fantasy in the end anyways. Which would still have been fine but then he commits character assassination on his own heroines turning them into generic slop, meanwhile the writing itself also has a bunch of problems with constant POV shifts and repeated dialogue all the time.

Let me explain, that fox girl who literally only had one characteristic trait she showed from the very beginning was about bravery. Even the ghost haunting her dreams keeps telling her to never give up... more>> and keep going. She's ready to fight the godlike MC to the bitter end and only stops because the MC explains that he intended to save them.

In this latest story arc I read, this same fox girl gets kidnapped to (of all places) a concentration camp because the author for some reason wanted to suck off his MC by making the MC raid the camp from 'Diary of Anne Frank', blatantly copying details and even making a token character of 'Anne'. Now what does the fox girl do? Simple, she gives up day one. She gives up with no possibility of any sort of resistance despite the fact that the main boss is even weaker than the MC (something that she knows) and just lies there waiting for death while cowering, its not even like the boss had hostages hidden somewhere so that she can't do anything, she even recalls the little fox kids and then still gives up.

Where did the spirit of resistance go? It got assassinated by the author so he can make the MC's entrance randomly more cathartic, which he fails at because the story loses meaning once he stops writing the characters consistently. Oh also for no reason whatsoever the time in the camp moves 7x slower. So 7 days inside the camp is only 1 day in the outside/ 'main' world.

Anyways, thats as bad as one can tolerate. Ditch this novel, do not read it. The author will give up every consistency just to suck off the MC. <<less

Its enjoyable. The character interactions are fun to read and the characters themselves are really endearing.

That being said I only like 2 of the fMCs and that's because of a really annoying thing the author does. This gets explained in the 1st chapter btw so its not a spoiler.

So the MC is stuck playing this character who is really proper all the time and cant really deviate from it. He wants to curse? Oh! It gets turned into a really polite backhanded insult. Its basically an auto translate that makes... more>> anything he says fit into the image of the character he's playing.

The problem is that 2/5 of his relationship with the female love interests is started and is developing due to the misunderstanding that he's a really scummy person who just wants them for s*xual reasons. This is really prominent in the current fMC which just made me want to rip my hair out because its like MC cant hear himself! He says things that can be easily misinterpreted into bad things then scratches his head when they react badly going "OMG! What could I have possibly said to warrant that reaction??" Like bro stop being s*upid.

The interactions that I said I liked is about the other love interest. One that his relationship with is actually based on mutual respect trust and understanding. This fMC actually saw MC on his lowest and resolved to actually support him. (Talkin bout the fox btw) Crossing my fingers and hoping for them to end up together no harem. I know its not gonna happen though since it a harem (T⌓T)

Ignoring that though, its a pretty good novel to kill time with. MC wants to save everyone and has a past shrouded with mystery the world is also pretty interesting and im very interested in seeing how MC will achieve his happy ending for everyone after all he transmigrated 3 yrs b4 the games main story started and hes already achieved a lot. Give it 10-15 chaps before you drop <<less

the novel quickly introduces alot of the feMC at once to introduce them in bulk. It seems like the author wanted to let the viewers know them first and then let them have screentime one by one. I've read to chapter 35 and the number of heroines who actually have screentime is 3.

The protagonist actually have a personality (sorry I just wanted to say it bc I've read too many novels with protagonist who have the personality of an A4 sheet of paper) and the way the author writes dialogue... more>> and create misunderstanding scenarios is honest, raw, and deeply entertaining.

10/10 would recommend to anyone I know <<less

Really happy with whats is going, the MC is great, the heroines have a interesting personalitys and backstories.

A most important the MC hates bad endings, and find the heroines endearings. Will help them to grow and protect them so they can be the better version of themselves

Very fun so far, I meant to stop at chapter 19 and go to sleep, i've somehow read 10 more. The pacing is great, so great that I'm forcing myself to stop now because I'm scared for when I catch up to the current release. Its been that kind of novel so far. Waking up tomorrow's going to be rough.

So far, the novel is pretty good.

The story so far is in its early stages, but the world is interesting enough to keep me interested.

The characters are the main attraction. I know an earlier review warned that there are signs of this being a tr*shier version of the harem genre, and I would agree if the female leads weren't interesting. You get their motivations and struggle, and they show signs of growth and development. If it was insta fell in love with the male lead then I would tend to... more>> agree. <<less

There are some basic issues that will bother people who don't shut their brains off when they read:

Dude possesses a *hidden* mastermind character who up to the reveal in the original story was considered likeable comic relief, in the novel everyone is unsettled by his mere presence from the start.

He's forced to speak a certain way, notices it immediately, and yet he never seems to realize what's coming out of his mouth in actual conversations.

If you can ignore this sort of inconsistency it's OK. Honestly it would have been better... more>> without the whole "reincarnated into a game" premise but that's par for the course, isn't it? <<less

I like the story, and it's definitely fairly interesting, especially to someone like me who's a sucker for random dude transmigrates into villain stories like I am.

First off, I would give the story four stars if it weren't for the harem, ngl.

For fox girl:

Spoiler

The one other reviewer that talks more about her is right. The fact that the scenario where she gets kidnapped and put into an experiment camp which is based on Anne Frank is a little weird to be honest, and doesn't really forward her character at all.

As I recall, the MC had stated about her potential with a sword ever since the first time they meet, and she was willing to fight to the death against him, even if she knew she would lose.

But in that camp, she did give up without a fight. It was so pathetic. Basically the damsel in distress troupe and she just became a generic "heroine".

And that's what I f*cking hate about harem. Is that a lot of the time, the girls turn into generic caricatures and don't progress at all. They only think about the MC and the only scenes that are shown with them are with the MC involved.

It's so pathetic, not of the girls, but of the author.

Also, for chapter 54, I don't agree with erasing the memories of Anne's and Irene's captivity because the MC thought it was better for them to forget. Who is he to deem what they should remember or not? If I were Irene or Anne, I'd be furious, no matter how well meaning the person is, because despite the bad memories, it makes up who you are. I wouldn't want to forget even if it's horrible, especially if those memories were taken from me without me asking the dude to.

[collapse]

While I know this is tagged as harem, I honestly hope he gets with Charlotte, because she's the only one who actually gets him confused and flustered sometimes. Which is pretty great to see, since she has a cool personality. She's also the only one that feels like she's on the same playing field as the MC. I also like Emilia, but their dynamic is different because the MC takes the lead in teasing her and in everything else, so it doesn't feel like they're equals. Whereas Charlotte seems equal, in personality and almost in power.

This story would honestly be far better if there was no harem involved. Regia and Irene feel like little sisters instead, and although I'm also fine with him and Emilia, I prefer Charlotte. And if it wasn't harem, there would definitely be more male characters that aren't villains or unimportant. It's boring when it's an all female cast basically.

And it's boring when all the female characters basically just rely on the MC and think about him, and the only scenes that are shown of the girls are when A.) They're thinking about him or B.) They're with him. Otherwise, they're thrown to the side, like Irene was.... literally zero mention of her or even her perspective outside of involvement with the MC.

Also, does not pass the bechdel test. I have not seen the girls talk to one another outside of the MC, and if they do, it's about the MC. I honestly think it would be cooler to see the girls all become friendly with or intrigued by Regia (the og protagonist) instead, and have the MC be a support for her rather than him being the glue of the group.

Anyway, I thought the whole point was that he wanted to support her, not take her place. Because by doing so, in the story, she starts to become dependent on him and more of a generic heroine rather than the heroic protagonist she was described to be in the original game, which is what I personally want to see. And I also want to see her develop away from the MC, or any of the girls develop away from the MC, because it's weird when they all literally only improve because of him, and unhealthy too. I know he's the MC, but please, show different types of relationships too, not just romantic.

I'm also not gonna lie, the misunderstandings get a little annoying after awhile. He has a skill which makes his words change when he speaks, so that it becomes more "refined" but usually just ends up sounding menacing or sexual. Which doesn't really fit with the supposed usage of that skill in the first place. And I f*cking hate misunderstandings, holy shit.

The writing also leaves much to be desired to be honest. I hate how half the chapter is the actual plot, then the other half is POV of another character looking at the same plot. It doesn't even add much, and I pretty much skip over it.

I should really stop giving harem stories a chance, even if it had an interesting premise. They ALWAYS butcher the characters, especially the girls, and it's sad to see. <<less

Thirty chapters in, it's about a 7/10 and here's a quick preliminary review. The best aspects of this story lie in how the MC doesn't worry about canon or try to stick to the walkthrough, and how he's willing to get his hands dirty to achieve his goals.

The worst aspects are how many scenes get repeated from a second PoV when there isn't enough to merit the repetition. Usually the first or second could have been cut out completely with no loss of narrative.

There's also a few scenes where it... more>> feels like the MC could have been a bit smarter but the author needed to force certain events to happen. <<less

I love the secretly strong MC type of stories, so this one is right up my alley.

The MC is supposed to be the final boss of the story he's in, and as a typical narrow-eyed character trope, he is seen as strange, or his intentions are misunderstood by most of the crowd. As of right now (100+ chapters in), I'm still not too sure what his intentions are, but basically he is raising the OG FMC to become stronger, and along the way he makes a lot of other female... more>> allies.

This seems to be a harem story with many potential love interests:

Spoiler

One of them is initially a minor antagonist that later becomes an ally. The tsudere Ojou-sama trope. Another is the s*ave fox girl he initially frees. She eventually warms up to him and is willing to be his sword, till death do them part. Then there are the two princess siblings whom he both helps heal the fatal illness of the younger one, and rekindle their familial bond with one another. Including the OG FMC, these are the potential love interests introduced thus far. (5 total)

[collapse]

MC himself is OP, and as he knows the direction of the story he is in, he takes full advantage of that to increase his power.

Spoiler

Prior to the start of the OG story, years earlier, the MC has started his own secret organization. He has collected/saved many OP characters that were destined to die or had already died in the OG storyline and made them a part of his own organization, leading them to fight against some sort of strong evil (I'm a bit unclear on who their enemies are atm).

[collapse]

He slowly demonstrates his power/potential to the public eye in school, and it is only more recently (110+ chapters in) that the academy gets a glimpse of how strong he really is.

Spoiler

He one sidedly defeats the strongest professor in a duel, a feat not seen since the late Empires Hero in his youth. FYI, that hero is declared dead, but in reality, MC secretly saved him and recruited him into his organization.

[collapse]

Overall, a fun story to pass the time. MC has no challenges in his way, only scheming on how to get the most out of what is happening around him most of the time. For those that like OP MC, harems, and/or enjoy reading stories with a bunch of misunderstandings, then I recommend giving this story a try. For everyone else, probably not the story for you. <<less
