Not necessarily a bad novel, it feels more like a webnovel with a K-Novel setting mixed with JP plot.

There is a lot of cliche in this novel and too much women, MC literally only interact with them and for some reason all women is important into saving the world, plus the 'Original Protagonist' of the game he transmigrated into is apparently also a woman crossdressing as a boy. Not only that but the system he has literally gives him 'Points' for literally BREATHING, he gains so much fricking points for... more>> doing absolutely nothing it's not even funny.

But I've only read a small part of the novel so I'm still giving it a chance.

Update 02/08/2024 :

I've read it again after a year, my rating is still the same, don't expect too much on this novel, just read it if you want to kill time. <<less

The plot seems interesting enough, but man is the translation horrible. It reads like it’s horribly machine translated with 0 work put in and it seems to be getting worse in the later chapters. At this point about 40% of the sentences straight up don’t make any sense and I have no idea what’s going on with some of the characters. I would not recommend this unless someone better picks it up and actually starts translating it.

Kinda suspicious how this got ranked so high...

Hello, SkyDemonOrder has been translating the novel recently so ignore the reviews about it's translation quality. (They are the ones who are doing 'Return of Mount Hua Sect').

This is another "the Novel's Extra" novel.

IF you liked titles including but not limited to:

  • I Killed the player of the academy*
  • The villain wants to live*
  • The Extra's Academy Survival Guide*
  • Fated to Be Loved By Villains*
Then you will enjoy this novel.

To sum up, veteran gamer enters his Gameworld and using his knowledge and competency attempts to prevent the world from imploding.

Cute Heroines, Good Main Character Temperament (Not too dense), Cool Story Telling

Give it a read. <<less

I take the risk of being a little unfair in this assessment since undoubtedly this work is not for me. I don't like the harem genre, but I love the "extra" character trope, and works with this trope usually have a harem. However, I've become capable of overlooking the harem, mainly because in this trope, the harem is usually very mild and non-aggressive. However, this work, from what I could gather so far, will take a different path, a path more similar to Japanese novels. From chapter 7 onwards, the... more>> protagonist is surrounded by girls, and even the only relevant male character who got close to the protagonist is actually a girl disguising herself as a boy. Honestly, this novel draws heavily from Japanese novels, even the protagonist's sword is quite similar to a katana. I'm not the target audience, so I won't continue reading, but if you are the target audience, you can go ahead without fear. <<less

I would've rated this 1/5, but since I've read 190 chapters I can't say I'm not completely disinterested. I would only recommend reading this novel if you have nothing else to read. I wouldn't trust the 5-star reviews either; they seem quite fake and pretty apparent if you read the novel and are a native (or at least fluent) English speaker.

This story is unbelievably bland. Boiled chicken no seasoning bland. Typical Korean cultivation with system and academy mixed in. Nothing wrong with those elements, but it's poorly implemented in the... more>> story. Let me explain.

For one, a majority of the plot points in this story are solved by the MC being incredibly talented because of the system; nothing wrong with that. But by chapter 190 I don't even know how many S (or S+) rank martial arts skills he has. There's literally like 10+. It doesn't sound like a lot, but when you have so many differently named martial arts, I don't want to keep up. He gains S-rank martial arts skills like collecting flowers on the side of the street. The author will write one or two sentences, maybe a paragraph if we're feeling lucky, and he'll just gain an S-rank martial arts skill because he's so talented. That's just so boring dude. I don't even know what the skills he uses half the time are anymore. Reading the fights are literally word salads.

The achievement point system of the System is also so whack. Like I said earlier, he'll win a fight against a stronger being, and as a result, the System will award him with like a million points. The point thresholds for S-rank skills are so low that he'll get some S-rank skills pretty easily. It's really boring and repetitive after the first 3 times.

And speaking of boring, none of the fights are even interesting anymore. There is no struggle. I stopped reading this novel to let it stack up chapters so I could be totally wrong here, but after Chapter 130 (this is the parts I do remember) he does get into fights with stronger beings. But he'll just pull some sh*t out of his ass that lets him win. This repeats as a cycle. He will struggle (not close to death, just struggling to maybe 70-85% of his power), but it won't matter because you'll know he'll win in the end. Of course, I should point out this is typical in cultivation novels because, well, the MC needs to survive till the end of the novel. But even as predictable as it is, the author doesn't put in any effort to create any tension, any suspense, literally none. At least in other novels, the MC might be put in a near brain-damaged state, or the MC needs to draw out 150% of their power and potentially risk harming their potential. Maybe I forgot the closer fights (if they occurred) near the beginning of the story, but I can definitely say that the fights between 130-190 are boring as f*ck. I know he's gonna win, but I still feel disappointed in how he wins.

This also ties into the power-scaling of this novel. As I am currently at chapter 190, the MC has pretty much tapped into the realm of Transcendence. He's probably like 3/4th of the way there. The only reason why he isn't considered a (true) Transcendent is because his image world (the defining feature of a Transcendent; pretty common in other novels) is so large that it can't be filled, so he technically isn't a Transcendent yet. He's still considered (internally; externally not a lot of people are aware) stronger than some of the Transcendents in Korea like the Emperor (at the time of me reading). And mind you, he's 18 (or 20, I forgot and it's not really made that clear after his age is mentioned. Maybe it is and I forgot, so he's either 18 or 20) and in his first year of the academy. Again, I'm not necessarily mad at this concept of where the MC is strong enough to surpass a lot of people in their first year of the academy, but c'mon. 1st year of the academy and you're already about to be at the human peak? Not even the second year, or even the third year? He's so strong that he doesn't even need to go to school anymore. From the hinting in the chapters, he'll ascend to godhood most likely so maybe I'm just nitpicking at the pacing, but there's just not enough time to develop anything outside his martial arts. It really shows.

This novel also goes overboard with the harem. I never thought I'd say this, but good god, GIVE ME A f*ckING MALE CHARACTER. It's so boring. His system skills let him attract chicks like it's nothing. Again, nothing wrong with that. But the idea is repeatedly hammered in the text. I f*cking get it. He's so handsome that any girl would dedicate their lives. There is no reason to repeat this same text 10 times throughout many different chapters. I swear there's like an 80% chance of a new character being a girl. And there's a probably 100% chance the new character will fawn over the MC. The only notable men in this novel are Park Woohyuk (the wind dude, I probably spelled his name wrong), and two Transcendents. The most recent arc, the Dragon arc, introduces seven dragons. One of them is a guy. The guy dragon literally says "I'm grateful for you since I'm the only male dragon here." Dude, what? Why is it not a 3:4 or 4:3 ratio, and instead 6 of the dragons are hot ladies? Usually, I wouldn't be complaining about the introduction of hot ladies, but when seemingly EVERYONE is a hot lady, it gets boring really quickly. It doesn't help that all the girls in the novel are bland too. The author doesn't really put any effort into developing the girls; the (main) girls have literally one main characteristic and that's it about them. The author (seemingly) has problems with exposition.

And lastly, the author writes in a really weird way. Since this is a translated novel, obviously there are a lot of things that are going to be lost in translation. I don't really know if SkyDemonOrder is a good translation group either. I read a lot of novels from them but I feel like the translation work is kinda poor. Lots of swapped pronouns, and inconsistent romanized names, and that's common in their other novels. Nonetheless, the way this novel is translated (in English) feels very weird, and according to the comments, the author's previous novel was also like this resulting in the other translator giving up on it. There's not really more for me to say, it just reads kinda weird sometimes. <<less

He's a knock-off Jedi with a Korean cultivation system that holds his hand and makes everything easy. S-rank skills at chapter one. Janky translation writes onomatopoeia as words in quotations like they're dialogue. Did someone sigh? Nah, they literally translated the word "sigh" out loud unironically.

The entire novel.

Is formatted into single lines without paragraphs.

... more>> Like this.

It reads like a middle school journal.

Or someone attempting prose.

They even do this with system prompts, but with center alignment.

Fairly standard "extra" character template story, but with annoying formatting and inflated descriptions of everything related to "cultivation." <<less

Story seems pretty cliche, not necessarily bad but nothing outstanding. Translation quality is abysmal, I often wonder if this is just mtl without any editing. In the story there is too many women, every position of power is held by a beautiful woman. Author is making up new things only to forget about them a chapter later, the same goes for the characters.

I don't know what to even say. The author is constantly skipping over stuff. It's like there should be 3 scenes before each one. Yet they do not exist.

So far everything is literally copied off those chinese novels with 1 dimensional characters. With everything being handed to the MC. "Wow you are so great MC. Here is 500 points".

Now since it is skipping. I have to wonder if the author is hurring up to get somehwere in the plot... But why write dozens of pages of sh"". oh right. Pay... more>> per chapter web novel system. I wouldn't pay for this.

It's bad enough that I have to... Wonder if the translators care about what they look at when working on this. This is the second story I've given these translators a 1/5. <<less

Hi, welcome to my review. This is a rather decent and interesting novel with an intriguing world-building. Let's get to the pro and con according to me:

The pro:

1. It has a rather well-balanced and compelling main character that isn't utterly dense or screwed. Armed with game knowledge, he is a very powerfull but not broken character. He isn't obscenely smart but not s*upid or naive either.

2. It has a captivating world that wasn't bare bone. The author explain the inside and out of the world stage. The power scaling is... more>> also quite well-balanced although not perfect.

3. The plot is ordinary but the story telling is great with well-maintained tension and anticipation throughout that won't bore the reader complimented with the world-building.

4. It has a good cast of characters with decently unique characteristic.

Con:

1. The author way of writing is more often than not is confusing because the author is using Murim or Cultivation term often which hard to translate and has a lot of flowery wording.

2. The cast of characters may be unique but shallow with usualy one or two special characteristic that differentiate them. They are still fun to have but not that interesting.

3. The author like to exagerate a lot in the power levelling of the MC which impact the pacing. It make it like the MC is getting stronger really fast but doesn't do much in term of action. It can reason that the enemies is that much stronger but it still underwhelming to see in action compared to how the author portrayed it. <<less

Okayish. Actual score 2.5/5, which is average in my books.

It's pretty much your generic Korean harem academy novel set in a modern world (future, to be exact, but it feels like our current world technology-wise). It pulls that off quite well, but is nothing special. You can read it and enjoyably kill some time.

However, if you want something good, then this one isn't it, and I'll now proceed to explain why:

  1. The MC is supposed to be a Chad (he was before transmigrating), but he's way too oblivious (it's kind of lampshaded). The author seems to have a decent understanding of women, so I can't understand why the MC doesn't exhibit it half of the time (poor writing? Or contrarily, is the author writing these bits so well that I can't tell that he's just copying common romance tropes and situations, and does it very well, but actually doesn't understand women?)
  2. The flow is crap. Way too often do we jump from one situation to another without properly concluding the former, or we jump into some new situation, only for the reader to feel confused as to WTF is going on. The most hateful part of this is that we get impactful scenes sometimes, or scenes that should progress plot, but there's no conclusion and also no impact on the plot (e.g. A girl kisses MC, but then they act as if it has never even happened).
  3. The pronouns are crap. I think there are multiple translators on this and they don't read all chapters before translating the next one because they keep getting gender wrong (pretty sure it's because Korean has gender-neutral pronouns, and these dumbfuks don't know the gender, because they haven't read the previous chapters, and then just assume instead of going back to check, hence dumbfuks.)
  4. While there are some interesting events, a lot of milestone events in character interactions feel boring and unimportant because of the flow issue from 2., so the story suffers quite a bit in terms of being less interesting as events matter less (why would they matter more if characters are going to behave as if these things didn't happen)
  5. The author's handling of the first +18 scene was horrible and I hope he never does it again when I return to read this novel once the TL is complete (it wasn't necessarily a bad scene per se, but when you see it, you'll know what I mean)
  6. The protagonist is pretty bland overall, kind of a Gary Stu
  7. The protagonist keeps getting stuff very easily at the start. Fortunately, it stops later on because while he keeps getting a ton of points, what he wants to buy is also expensive enough to scale up with it, and he gets few of these things that actually matter and affect the plot
  8. Because of points 2. And 4., the plot has become pretty boring into 100s as the MC is going around places randomly and doing random things, and it feels like some kind of overarching plot to connect these events is missing, to the point these events feel pretty random and tbh not very important, not to mention somewhat boring
  9. Oh, and the love interests are somewhat questionable. We have a few of them that are pretty nice personality-wise, but we also get a stalker, an annoying woman with a big ego, and an entitled, spoiled woman. Not to mention that at least one of them is a yandere. Well, at least we have illustrations (are they original, tho). Overall, it can be read, and it can be enjoyed, but don't expect too much from it. It's just a normie-level novel.

I think this novel has great narratives and compelling stories.

The main character is a game addict who unfortunately got vaulted into his favourite game. I wish there was more info on how he reacted when he realized he got shipped into another world without consent but the way the story moves is very interesting nonetheless.

I'm not into harem and some of the girls irks me a bit but that's 1 of the few cons in this novel and it's easy to overlook it and focus on more compelling stories.

Although this... more>> is an academy action fantasy harem novel but I wish the main character would engage with more male characters instead of collecting girls like Pokemon cards. It would be a nice change of pace to just see bros hanging out (non sensual)

P/S. I think some of the illustrations on Ko-fi makes a wayy better profile pic for novelupdates. Some readers tend to avoid reading novels that has ai art as a pfp. <<less

Grade:

6/10 (cliche, but at least is done well)

TLTR:

Its quite straigthforward, and completely filled with cliches, but as said before, its at least decent quality to pass time if you have nothign else to do, even so, its quite obvious to see the pattern in this story, so if you have read similars before, you already know what will happen.
