I've completed the novel and I am dissatisfied, but it was a light-hearted and enjoyable read, so I'll be generous and give it a 5/5.

If I have to be honest, the novel has more cons than pros. I mean, the world-building is devastating, it's super fast-paced (especially towards the latter half of the story), and the characters are kinda bland.

In total, there are around twenty-five women in the harem and the MC barely does anything to make them for him (70% of the time). Unlike at the beginning, where MC... more>> actually wracks his brains to pursue girls, by the end, he could give a single glance to the most powerful/beautiful woman in the world and she would fall for him. Literally.

With that being said, I think the MC was quite good. He isn't particularly lusty, and always has a good idea of what's going to happen. I also liked the dynamic between MC and the girls. For the most part of the story, MC was dating like twelve different girls without them having any idea that MC was dating other girls. Don't get me wrong, I think it was scummy but it made sense.

Spoiler

My primary dissatisfaction with the story was with how underutilized the characters were, especially the harem. There were several interesting girls who, I feel, should have gotten more. Ji Shuiyao, Churan, and especially Gu Yurou.

Overall, I would not rate it above 6/10 but since I enjoyed it (for the most part), I'll give it a full score. <<less

I like this novel. I don't know why others rated it low but this novel was totally good. Well there are parts in middle that makes it bored but it improves in the long run.

The novel main character is a villain from inside and out, so don't expect him to be good and his not that bad, there are male protagonists that he didn't killed, he only killed and ticks to kill those who are revengeful. But I think his good, other villains dump the female they used but atleast... more>> this villain was responsible and married them in the end.

This villain really do use his advantages till the end of the novel like looks, brain, system and wealth. Other novel main characters are also had advantages but in novel runs the advantages was being useless or not properly use. So I think this novel is good. <<less

Definitely not perfect, but fun. The MC basically goes around collecting women and then angering the protagonists to death by showing off.

The system is super OP (to the point that the author decided to stop having MC buy stuff relatively early on), some things are inconsistent (MC forgets about skills, and also there's a weird thing where he refuses to be with one woman because she isn't a virg*n... but there's another and no problem there??), and the harem is too big so many of them are neglected for long... more>> periods of time (or just never developed, a couple near the end had literally only a chapter or two). The total harem number:

Spoiler

They're listed at the end and I counted 47, might've missed a couple

[collapse]

Despite that though, most of the women are still better developed than in many Chinese novels I've read. The MC is pretty fun too, reasonable and somewhat ruthless but usually good to his women. If an MC going around cucking people before / after castrating or mu*dering them sounds entertaining, you'll probably like it. The MC isn't as evil as I was expecting, but he does some shady stuff and it's great <<less

Edit: I found a very similar novel with the same exact premise, but the protagonist is more likable, doesn't neglect heroines after capturing them (there are constant jokes about the efforts he puts in), the parody is much better and points out the annoying tropes much more accurately and in a funnier way, and the plot is more interesting too. At least so far, I'm 222 chapters in.

The plot is very similar for the first several tens of chapters, and then diverges. I recommend reading that novel over this one.

It's... more>> called City: I Started As a Rich Second-generation Villain, which is almost identical to this one. You can tell it apart by different protagonist name: Gu Junqing. The caveat is that the novel doesn't seem to have a page here on NU, and there's only MTL available on Novel Cool. Fortunately, the MTL is one of those readable ones, like a real translator but with somewhat bad English.

------------------------------------------

Fairly good as far as transmigration-into-villain novels are concerned, but not without its problems. Dull in the long run. I recommend reading only until MC gets into university (I believe that was around chapter 150-200).

Overall, this is a parody of urban novels (wuxia and xianxia alike), and does very well at parodying them. Or rather, it does a great job at parodying their usual protagonists (e.g. Miracle doctor, retired assassin, OP cultivator from a mountain village, etc; sometimes you can even tell which novel's plot they correspond to because the author is parodying real novels, and some of those novels were at least partially translated into English.). That's probably the best part of the novel since it ruthlessly points out how ridiculous their behavior and how doubtful their moral values are, and seeing them as antagonists to the main character makes it very easy to see and hard to ignore (when those guys are the actual protagonist in their own novel, the reader is more likely to ignore or excuse their behavior and bad deeds). The author of this novel also does very well in turning s*upid tropes from harem novels (e.g. R*pe victim becomes lover) into abilities of those protagonists, indirectly pointing out how ridiculous those tropes are and making fun of them. The way the main character deals with the "protagonists" is sometimes funny, and there are also other funny moments. If you like comedy, you won't be disappointed by this novel (at least not much).

Other than that, however, I wouldn't say the plot and setting are anything special. Firstly, the genre of transmigrating into villain is old and tried. Secondly, the genre of going against "protagonists" is also nothing new. I'm a Gao Fushuai Villain is a very good example, and shares many, many similarities with this novel (though it's worse in some aspects and better in others).

The main character, Wang Haoran, is a good villain. As in, well executed. As long as you remember that he's a bad guy, it's a fun read. However, the further the novel progresses, the more unsavory his methods become, and the less I like him as a character (as he keeps crossing more lines that I would never cross). Also, he relies on the system too much (just like in Gao Fushuai Villain), and later he ends up in more and more situations where he has to spend points via system to get out of sticky situations, which I think is what the author ended up doing because the main character kept on accumulating way too many points and wasn't spending them, and this was the only alternative to retconning the setting related to the system already in place.

One thing I dislike about system

Spoiler

is the way MC gets x-ray vision. I get that it helped him thwart the first protagonist, but it'd have been so much more interesting if he could only unlock (unlock, and not get) the unique powers and cheats of protagonists upon defeating them completely.

[collapse]

The harem is way too big and way too neglected. Basically as long as a girl is captured, she doesn't really matter anymore. A good half of the harem stopped being relevant by chapter 368, and the harem was already past 10 at that time (I can't be bothered to count), not to mention that some love interests haven't joined the harem yet at that time. Moreover, the love interests are way too two-dimensional (though it's somewhat acceptable because we're dealing with a parody, and so love interests are supposed to be cliche). Doesn't mean I like it, though. Gao Fushuai handled this part much better.

There are of course other characters apart from love interests and enemies. They're mostly support characters of either the villain main character or various protagonists. I liked how none of them (or very few) were killed in order to neutralize their threat to the main character. What is sad is that most of them vanished as soon as they weren't relevant anymore.

Overall, this is a good parody of all those metropolis/urban harem novels. However, if you expect something more from this novel, something deeper, than I advise you to give up your expectations and read something else. My humble recommendation is I just want to be a salted fish quietly because the protagonist, while not a villain, is not as reliant on the system and is more chill and carefree, while the plot is better planned too and also belongs to the modern city OP dude genre. <<less

Yes, I read till chapter 649 with mtl.

No, the novel does not get any better post the very first protagonist.

The very first 'protagonist' that the MC kills is literally the *only* protagonist that posed any challenge and had any chances of fighting back.

... more>> so the MC becomes insanely op but that's still fine I guess. The real power is the pseudo mind control abilities he gets. He goes the full charm route which would be fine, if he was the one doing the charming.

Except he gets this broken ability that literally makes girls fall for him unconditionally and he can get them to do anything. This is just mindcontrol with some flavor text and it really makes the novel much worse for it.

I had to end up dropping the novel barely 100-200 chapters from the end cause it simply becomes unbearable.

The arc where he kills the first protagonist however, is absolutely brilliant. He needs his villain luck higher than the protag so that the protag doesnt deus ex machina back from the grave, but then later this is never the case cause even numerically he's always having higher luck than other 'protagonists' <<less

Definitely worth a read. Although with the sheer number of women the MC has, you might want to make a list, cuz there's a LOT.

Only thing that disappointed me is some of the girls sort of get forgotten and don't get mentioned till a few hundred chapters later after their arc, or some of them have very little screen time. On the bright side tho, everyone gets remembered in the end and the MC marries all of them. It ended on a happy note.

The novel is certainly not perfect, and... more>> it's got a lot of flaws, but it's by no means bad. I hope whoever reads this takes interest and tries it out.

I read this via MTL and it's very readable. There's very few cases where sentences don't make sense, and when that happens, just copypaste the original Chinese to DeepL (a translator site, a little bit better than Google translate, but they often f*ck up the names) and you're good.

Thanks for reading! <<less

So I was just idly reading this and suddenly it's over... It feels it could've gone for 5k more chapters but I did see the signs of the author getting bored so it didn't exactly blindsided me.

This is actually a top notch villain type urban cultivation type, and while I say that the sad fact is that about 99% of them are tr*sh so that's not a high bar. And this gets 3 stars for a reason. But I can at least say it is a page turner if you... more>> enjoy this kind of thing.

The main downfall of this one is how we kinda just treat girls as Pokemon, we go into some 5-15 chapters maybe some more if she's particularly useful only to put her in the box and never see her again. A little more focus and less girls would've made this novel something special. Or perhaps a core of recurring female cast...

The ending is really whatever, it was tantamount to dropping the thing, so I can't quite recommend it... But at the same time it's actually really good if you're into this kind of thing, as I said before, so you might want to check it out regardless.

These type of novels are dime in a dozen though so I'm sure there's something better out there... Or at least something that hasn't been dropped. <<less

This is a modern cultivation novel where the MC, Wang Haoran, cultivate but capturing female love interest of different type of modern cultivation type of hero, prevent hero from showboating (basically stop hero from becoming stronger). Now, if you approach this novel as a parody and NOT take anything here seriously... than you'll probably enjoy this more than not.

I like the world building and the variety of characters the author introduced throughout the story.

Now the MC, Wang Haoran, is villain. He has a villian aura that attracts hero to essentially... more>> come kill him. So doing nothing essentially mean waiting until the hero becomes strong enough to kill him (the villian). And not capturing the love interest of the heros (the heroines) simply means he's now allowing the heroes to capture them and make themselves stronger.

With all this said. The single biggest issue I have with this novel is the weird moral high ground the MC sometimes stands in. Now all heroes in this are not the truly morally upright individual... and the MC is not a completely morally bankrupt.

The truly best villian are usually characters that operate at different moral standard, you can understand sympathize with these character even though their thinking and actions are wrong (like Thanos). With that said... the MC here is NOT a good villian. I feel like he constantly put himself in moral high ground and at the same time look down and even despise the heroes. Nothing illustrate this clearer than when you hit the part where they introduce Qin Fan, because most of the other so call "heroes" are more wicked and villainous than the MC.

Who's Qin Fan? He an hero that has a system that allows him to master 99 art if he teaches 99 individual. And he has to pretend he's this sagely saint until he completed training of his 99th disciples... which happened to be the oldest of the 7 sisters, Tantai Yaoyue. Even though he mentally your standard lecherous transmigrater that just want to get powerful and lust after women. (In a way, not so different compare to our MC)

Our MC... despise him and looked down on Qin Fan... even scorning the fact his constantly lust after his female disciples despite the fact his disciples think their master is some kind of gentleman. But bro... what the MC is doing his female disciples is far worse.

Let me show you an example:

Spoiler

Qin Fan like Tantai Yaoyue, a cold and serious type female character that doesn't think much about love. After completing his system assignment and is now finally free to use his power. He made it his goal to pursue his disciple Tantai Yaoyue even though she only revers him as her master and nothing else.

Wang Haoran always knew the 7 sisters are all heroines. He charm halo that allow him to randomly have the heroine get a randomly favorability rating to himself (up to 100 = deeply in love or something) simply by looking at him. Tantai Yaoyue is the last of the sister he met and I think first to be affect by this charm halo. He landed at about 80 with Tantai Yaoyue, which mean she's deeply in love with him.

Qin Fan like Tantai Yaoyue and try various way to let herself open to the idea of love even though by the time he saw her again, she's already affected by the Wang Haoran's halo effect. Wang Haoran naturally thinks of various way to c*ckblocked him. And eventually captured a video Qin Fan masturbating while yelling out "Yaoyue... yaoyue..." with hidden camera he got installed in his hotel room. Oh the horror. Naturally Wang Haoran is disgusted by this and can't wait to use this video against him. Spread the video online and "accidentally" showing it Tantai Yaoyue while having dinner with him, herselves, and Qin Fan. Qin Fan is then shamed and ridicule by everyone since his clip is now public domain.

Truly despicable right? Here's this master lusting after his student while tricking her into thinking he's some kind of gentleman and got caught jerking off while thinking about her.

Well let's compare to what Wang Haoran did to her. Tantai Yaoyue, are the cold upright type.... aka stuck up b in MC's pov. Charm halo gave her an 80 favorability rating which makes her deeply in love with him and act out of character in front of Wang Haoran. Even she know she's not acting like herself but can't control it. For example, know her 7th sis is "dating" Wang Haoran, the only openly acknowledge relationship even though at this point he's already fooling around with several of the other sisters, she suddenly decided to dress and wear makeup like her 7th sis. All the sisters were taken back regarding Tantai Yaoyue sudden change of style. When the sisters acknowledge she and her 7th sis looked so much alike that even they're confused which looking from the back, she decided to give her 7th sis her room which was the largest as a goodwill gesture... and we kinda know where this is going. They invited Wang Haoran to dinner and he went to the kitchen and accidentally hug Tantai Yaoyue... just to show how much she looked like her 7th without seeing her face. Long story short, they had dinner, he had some wine, they offer him to stay at their guest room, middle of the night 7th sis texted him for a little rendezvous. So he rush and snuck into her original room before the 7th sis texted him that she's in another room. Tantai Yaoyue was in bed and he grab her from behind, she was startled but didn't say anything, he did his deed and midway knew something was off but he's like "screw it, I'm already this far, not gonna stop now". Afterward, she finally say something and try to play the victim. He's like, you could've stopped this from happening if you said something in the beginning. She gave him a flimsy excuse that she thought she's dreaming... LOL... She tried to make him take responsibility. He's like oh hell no I can't let you have the upperhand here... so he's all like pretending to be sobbing, saying how he wronged her and her 7th sis, and how the only way is for him to commit su*cide by grabbing a scissor on the table nearby.... knowing full well the charm effect meant she loved him to the point that she wouldn't let him die. Stuck at a quagmire, she turned around crying and told him to get out. Next day breakfast, all the sisters can tell she's in a bad mood while he strolled out enjoying his breakfast acting like nothing happened the night before... which further upset Tantai Yaoyue. LOL

Looked both MC and Qin Fan did the same thing to the heroine: deception and gaslighting. And yes both's at fault regarding the s*x. However the mental turmoil he made her suffer through knowing she's in love with her sister's boyfriend can't be understated. All Qin Fan did was m*sturbate and kind of incepted the idea of acceptable love and taking chances to Tantei Yayoi. Like when Qin Fan knew Tantei Yayoi might be in love with someone she not supposed to (he erroneously believed it was himself), he encourage her to take chances and go after this person she likes. Sure Qin Fan didn't have pure intentions towards Tantai Yayoi, but neither was Wang Haoran.

Again... the difference between Qin Fan and Wang Haoran... what moral high ground can the MC really stand on.

[collapse]

I rather the MC knew and understand he's a completely a*hole and lean into that. Rather than acting all high and mighty in comparison to the other "heroes". I would've respected the former far more than the latter.

Ok I'm finally done with this.

Good

  • Interesting cultivation path
  • Wide variety of characters
  • Pretty interesting world building
  • It's a cultivation that kinda ended before it became too draggy
  • Decent ending overall
Bad

  • Honestly, it's pretty sexist... it has a highly toxic male masculinity view. I'm not a terribly PC type of person but I have hard time thinking this will appeal to any female in any way
  • Harem is beautiful virg*n only club. As a parody I guess it a play on how many heroine in chinese web novel are virg*n. However, by the end of the novel, he got together with 50ish women and I think I remember two non-virg*n... and both ladies wishes they're virg*n.
  • Not unique to this novel but there's quite a bit of ageism in the novel mainly regarding older women, younger guy relationship. How it's a negative thing. Is milf fetish not a thing in china? It's all either young beautiful girl or "women" that like 25ish (where ML is 18). They made women in their 30s (which isn't even that old) going after younger guy seems as if it's something gross and unappealing.
Final Thoughts

I started this novel because I wanted to read a frivolous harem novel where the main lead just go after as many women possible. In the end, I kinda got that but at the same time there's flaw and things I don't like. I still believe the ML operates at a weird moral standard regarding relationship with different type of women... things like "oh no I'm too good for this women" type of mentality. Like I've mentioned before, he constantly have this "oh look, I'm better than this guy" mentality that the character and author wants to portray him as. Most of time author simply just made the "hero" even more evil than the male lead. Other times it just comes off as hypocritical. For example, he's constantly "look I treat these girls with respect" vs "these heroes just lust after and treat this woman as object" type of message constantly. Like... pfff... you're banging girls left and right. Enough of this massive "i treat my women with respect" ego. Like he's a freaking villain, why would I care about him being more "morally upright" compared to the other heroes. I would rather ML but completely debauch and with even less moral standard. It's such a huge turn off. <<less

I can see why this is such a well rated novel. I highly recomend reading the whole story because it gets better as you read. For anyone wondering, it is essentially just a netori harem story about the MC who uses his system to find out who the protagonists and heroines are so that he can squeeze himself between them and steal opportunities to make himself the heroines love interest instead.

Since it's a Chinese harem all the girls are pure and there is no NTR.

Spoiler

Only one girl wasn't a virg*n because she was a milf and she basically hated the fact that she wasn't pure so she refused to be with him until she could become an immortal and be reborn. In the last chapter we find out unfortunately she died before that could happen, but was reborn as a girl again and she was able to be with him in the end so every heroine was able to have a happy ending.

[collapse]

Spoiler

I'm also super happy that Wen Jing was a wife in the end considering she was never actually a heroine. She was his first woman and the first one to love him, but I genuinely thought the author would relegate her to being a maid just because she wasn't at the same standard as the other girls.

Great wish-fulfilment story with an MC that always comes on top. No unnecessary graphic s*x scenes is a plus. MC is also quite smart and although everything goes to what he wants it's still explained and within reason.

I like how things that happen at the beginning of the story still somewhat connected to the latter arcs and old characters also comes back and make an appearance from time to time. The MC rarely kill someone. He doesn't have a rapist personality. At most he manipulate behind the scenes to make... more>> female stereotypes to fall for him. I didn't like the start because I thought it's the system rewards are quite unreasonable, but I find it quite fun how he fights against unreasonable protagonists. Only problem is the translation but overall 'worth it' reading the mtl. :) <<less

Exactly what I want from this kind of novel. MC is scum, but he is aware he is s*um and there are lines he won't cross (although he will consider it). MC gets more powerful than OG MCs, but direct confrontations rarely happen. Not a fan of having favorability counter and charisma build. Parents are treated as underlings whenever MC needs to get something done. Girls are bland and mostly interchangeable.

Nonetheless it was a fun read, big thx to the translators.

Edit: Harem gets horrendously bloated in the second third with... more>> a lot of fun shuraba action. Girls tend to know he is two timing, but don't quite comprehend the scale. But in the end it gets pretty quickly and effortlessly stabilized. The second to last chapter is wedding with 36 (!) brides and 11 maids.

Spoiler

One very disappointing thing is how MC treats Cheng Rui, wife of Ma Hongsheng and mother of his child. Brainwashed to have maxed affection for our MC, but never given even a kind word and not even present in the marriage scene. I say scene, but it was literally just list of names. And she is not there. After all the mocking of protagonists and authors worshiping v*rginity, after detesting them for getting girls affection and abandoning them, he still scoffed on her and left her alone. Another wife and mother (Feng Rao) got a last chapter where she reunited with our MC after being reincarnated, which is also s*upid but at least a happy end of sorts.

[collapse]

One thing I want to point out is that pretty much never do you feel that our MC just replaced the regular protagonist. It is kind of common in these villain counter attack novels and it doesn't happen here IMO. <<less

The struggle is real in this one.

The focus of this story is the conflict between the MC and heroes. Heroes are protagonists of harem novels and MC is Villain Cannon Fodder.

I love stories where the MC & his family are constantly under threat of annihilation.

... more>> Notice I said family. In this story, MC and his family's fates are tied, if he goes down, the family will follow (Hero-kun is viscous) It gives more meaning to MC's cruel acts towards heroes and his womanizing ways.

Even though there is a system, the author tries his best to avoid a power creep. And even if MC gets strong all of a sudden, a stronger hero appears, very similar to map changing in Xianxia novel except there is no map changing here as its all contained within one City. A City where MC's family holds power, so he can naturally get away with a lot.

In fact, MC declines going to the best university in the country cause its in another city. And if he encounters a hero in another city, it'll be harder to deal with him, i.e. Bribing the police will be harder, making the academic life of the hero miserable (hero might be a student as there are multiple hero)

Staying in the same city also makes it that characters are reused and aren't one-off mentions. <<less

A novel with an antihero MC that delivers what it promises.

However, if you like romance and personal relationships I don't recommend this, the MC basically has to get as many female protagonists so the male protagonists don't kill it.

At some point in the story one may think that the MC doesn't care about his women, but reading the story carefully the MC himself has made it clear that he would like to keep a few women and enjoy life, but that's impossible because the male protagonists will always seek conflict... more>> with him.

Basically, the MC does what he has to do, he conquers women and advances the plot.

The ending wasn't bad, I liked it and although it felt a bit rushed all the juice had already been squeezed out, so I'm not dissatisfied by any means.

I don't give this novel five stars because I feel that a lot of female characters were wasted, there are female characters that are actually very good and entertaining. But I still enjoyed every interaction between the girls and the MC.

It was fun to read, but it's far from a masterpiece or a very well thought out novel. Just read it if you want to pass the time, the story also has a bit of comedy so you can expect some laughs from time to time. <<less

Before reading this novel make sure to be familiar with your average hot headed and hot blooded Wuxia/Xianxia protagonist and the common tropes. If you are, you will love this. The author doesn't take himself/herself too serious, but instead focuses on a villain-MC who goes around building his harem and snatching the golden opportunities of "real" MCs. And it is really fun to read.

Granted, our MC is op, the system random draws just disappear and a lot of time is spent on managing the harem, but in the end this... more>> is negligible and didn't prevent me from grinning from one ear to another, whilst our MC shamelessly buries yet another hero.

5/5 -- After c500 this really starts getting momentum. I can't wait how the MC deals with all the random cliches! <<less

I'm glad I read this novel on a whim. This is one of the best novels in the Harem genre.

Without spoilers, if the plot is divided into 10 arcs.

The 1st one is weakest and gets a 3/5.

... more>> 2-8 arcs it's an easy 5/5.

The last 9th & 10th arcs after the last opponent Ye Fan is introduced have been rushed, reading from that point it feels like the author wanted to wrap everything up quickly. He went through the major plot points he probably had planned but the story is not as detailed as before and glosses over a lot of the character interactions.

Can't really fault the author, he probably has some circumstances for rushing through the plot that we're not aware of. But the story ends on a happy note and overall it's satisfying. <<less

This comic is very good in my opinion, the storyline is quite good although a little bored, but for the final chapter I almost shed tears, and the ending is happy and romantic.

Good time waster nothing special with some repetition in the story but everything about the novel is really good.

Reading that tr*sh The Rich Second Generation Villain's Father then this was unexpected. They both have similar plots but this author has a plan on how he wants the story to go.
