I, the salutatorian of the Magic Tower, has landed the ultimate cushy job: the Imperial Advisor.

What does the job entail? Giving advice.

Why did I take it on? To slack off.

But then…

The Empire started to obsess over me.

“God damn it.”

I'll keep reading, but I decided to write an early review because of the way the novel is structured (and because there are no other reviews yet). And even if it improves later on, people will have to get through these initial chapters, so they should know what to expect.

To summarise, the MC is lazy and doesn't want to work, so he gives objectively bad advice which happens to have ideal consequences, resulting in more work and more significant work. Well, relatively speaking anyway.

What isn't covered by the synopsis, is... more>> that it starts out with truly irrelevant personal issues, so even if the relevance is rising, it's still quite far from the political and macroeconomic decisions one would expect from a title of "Imperial Advisor".

This is not (or at least not yet) a story of a modern person making brilliant decisions and giving sage advice based on anachronistic modern knowledge.

Instead, it's extremely episodic and absurd comedy based on misunderstandings. Which can be entertaining, but is a better fit to read in between something as a light refresher, and not as good in the form of a gripping novel to binge read.

I'll probably revisit this as a palate cleanser after reading horror or a particularly cringeworthy passage of another novel. <<less
