Honestly it's way better than I expected.

This is basically a 'Kaguya: love is war' fan fic crossed with a super power academy novel. Multiple characters are almost identical versions to characters in Kaguya while others have slightly altered personalities.

The main difference is that 90% of the POVs are from MCs perspective and the relationship between the two leads is much more harmonious early on compared to Kaguya and Shirogane.

Another major difference is the inclusion of another girl. MC has a childhood friend/first love who he lost contact with for "reasons"... more>> (don't worry it's not anything cringy nor is MC a weirdo who's still hung up on her). So far she hasn't been a huge part of the story but my guess is the harem will involve her and the 'Kaguya girl'. Thankfully, I haven't been getting vibes of the harem including more than those two and I hope it stays that way.

Some of the humor really hits, some doesn't and feels like a forced attempt at being Kaguya. For the most part the slice of life parts work well enough and act as a fun side story to the more generic action/academy stuff that is the main story. There are moments though where if feels really out of place. The cast all of sudden having tea and cracking jokes in the office like an episode of Kaguya when people's life's are in danger is weird, but the story forces those situations almost like it has a quota to hit on tea sessions.

The MC is great, he's simultaneously vulnerable but also kinda badass. He's just a normal dude that wants to get strong to keep himself safe in a dangerous world and marry the girl he likes. He doesn't have grand ambitions but he's also no scrub. He feels more realistic than 90% of main characters in these kind of novels.

The relationship between him and the FL is a lot of fun. They bounce off each other really well. You really just want to see these two crazy kids figure it out.

The world building could be better but it's serviceable. The combat system is pretty uninspired, I find myself breezing through multiple paragraphs when there's an action scene.

Overall really fun and if you are even a passing fan of Kaguya I think you'll get a lot more out of this novel. <<less

While not the best from this genre, but certainly a great read.

The way how the MC didn't lose his goal from start to finish was quite impressive, as many novels with promising stories make their MCs lose their original reasoning in the story progression.

Even though the topic of harem wasn't well manged, I don't think their is any right way to address it in the first place after all polygamy isn't well accepted by everyone.

The power leveling in the later parts of the story gave quite the shounen vibes, I... more>> guess there wasn't any other way to empower the MC.

The FLs were also quite fleshed out with tangible characters that developed throughout the story.

All in all this is a great story that you should give a chance if you want stable characters and a good world building.

Not for those who want a MC with great ambitions of saving world and building the largest harem. <<less

Ok so it's really good.

Gave me the nostalgia of love is war but with magic and swords and a proper power system which is actually unique for once.

The plots quite good too

The misunderstandings are in a good way where everyone perceives his magic as him being op and it makes for some fun times too

Edit:

The story has been completed

It was beautiful

A satisfying ending

A nice translation

Truly sad it ended so soon

What a gem

I recommend this with all my hear

This is a rare novel in that it's concise, the world building isn't immediately dumped on you but enough is given to leave you curious, and fulfills the power fantasy of a shounen story without getting to DBZ levels of ridiculous. I could have done without the romance element but it does cater to the MC's motivations so it was alright. Definitely a must read for anyone who has a couple afternoons free.

I have a full review on the blog but here's the key points.

Another reviewer compares this to kaguya: love is war. And that is both short sighted and genius. Short sighted because this is not at all like kaguya as both the characters already know the other likes them but the MC cannot confess because 1- that would lead to both of them being expelled from the academy and 2- he has a sense of responsibility stemming from his role and prioritizes fixing the current world situation instead of hurriedly... more>> getting into a relationship. It is however also genius because this novel has the same sort of flaws that kaguya had. Despite having a very interesting world all of it gets glossed over in favor of this teenage romance, the rest of the world is lacking development and somehow nothing else seems to matter or is properly explained.

Not a single adult apart from the main villain is mentioned. The world itself also makes little sense, where’s the rest of the adults? And how does the world function with every institution being an ‘academy’ and are the professors just robots? How are the students responsible for catching criminals? The list goes on and on. The consistent lack of explanation about this is why im dropping the novel. <<less

The story it self good, I like the konsep of academy city where academy ruling the apocalypse world.

the main male character is chad like jotaro from jojo & smart using tactics.

What I dislike is only " Love triangle " Because sometimes it's very annoying & very s*upid.

Yup I think everyone is agree when Reading this, the female lead that love our main character is s*upid.

If you can ignore / handle the small love problem. This is a good read.

Plot was simple and straightforward, but few twists got me off guard. Magic system was unique, characters distinct, setting common, cliches abundant. Giving story 4/5 because while it did nothing new, author didn't mess it up by reinventing a wheel and ending was satisfactory. PS, Goliath could have his own shounen manhwa and not a soul would complain.

The translation of the novel is good and deserves a 5/5 however the story is honestly average at best.

There is an amazing overall plot but the author keeps introducing villains with sad backstories and never lets them die or face actual consequences and it just brings down my overall enjoyment of the novel. Instead they end up losing or somehow escaping after the fight and then down the line we get a sob story about how they were used by the big main villain and then get arrested but never... more>> actually punished for their actions they just disappear from the story and come back later to help the MC. Did I mention that these villains are mostly women.

It just feels like the author doesn't actually want to commit to making anyone truly evil besides the two major villains and just wants them to end up falling in love with the MC and joining his harem. The only villains we've seen who are actually evil or don't have a sob story are a guy who just likes fighting strong people, some random school bullies, the main villain who is an old lady, and maybe the white haired guy who is the strongest under the main villain.

At the beginning of the novel it seemed more like a full on romance where only one girl would end up with the MC or maybe 2 if the mysterious childhood friend came back but then they introduced Se-ah a character I don't really like due to her personality and it made me think that maybe it'll be a full on harem, which I don't dislike but did catch me off guard since the site the novel is on doesn't have harem as one of the tags, but it just keeps flip flopping and it makes me think the author doesn't know what they're doing or hasn't decided how they want the story to end which ruins the experience since it just makes the MC seem dumb due to how he treats the women characters outside of the main female lead. An example of this is how in the most recent chapter I read the MC decides to just save the life of one of the villains of the story even though she was about to kill the female lead, coincidentally right after we the reader learn her sad backstory, even though the MC had no reason to. He only knows she's a villain and knew he had to kill her to save the female lead and he does but then he decides to save her and revive her and then she just gets arrested either way. Or how he overlooks Se-ah stalking/spying on him because he trusts her even though he didn't actually trust her at the beginning so it makes no sense why he was ok with her spying on him that whole time. He knows she ends up as a major villain in the og story and hasn't done anything to change her story yet somehow just trusts her because she's nice??? He thought his childhood friend was nice too but she turned out to be a villain so idk how he just trusts Se-ah and allows her to do basically whatever she likes.

Overall the storyline is good, no it would be amazing, but the author just wants to make a big harem and let's the female characters in the story who will have a close relationship with the MC do whatever they want no matter how bad because they'll just end up with the MC at the end, which just brings down my enjoyment of the novel because any woman character that I dislike due to the things they've done will be forgiven almost immediately just because the author needs them for the harem. <<less

After finishing the novel, I am here to say that I had a pleasant and satisfied experience. The novel itself is not very long yet the Author still made it interesting with many twists and turns. It's commendable that locations/background settings in this novel remain few, yet information was managed to be conveyed to the reader despite the novel's length.

A funny thought came to mind near the conclusion of the final fight. The novel has elements that relate to a certain Marvel film where conspiracy and deep rooted corruption runs... more>> amok.

I would recommend you to try this novel as it gets to the point and has a resolving ending. <<less

Very tropey, got bored of it about halfway through.

It's basically set in a world full of super hero schools.

Apparently there are no adults in the story, because the students have to solve every problem.

... more>> It does the annoying shtick where the MC "is not a genius", but is better than all the other geniuses.

MC is surrounded by girls, but has no actual romantic development, though he drags his feet with a couple of them.

The translation started decent, but in the later chapters started to degrade quality, with misgendering characters all the time.

Basically, it's nothing you haven't seen. Not terrible, but also not gripping enough to keep me reading. <<less

It's a good story that is complete. It committed no major flaws of web novels such as inconsistent characterization and managed to not have any glaring plot holes.

To it's advantage, this was a story which was focused and achieved what it set out to do. The world building, though undetailed, was logical enough and served the story well. The combat, though un-inspired, had good power-scaling: you won't see the protagonist struggling with mobs after powering up (and he powered up FAST). The pacing was neither too fast nor too slow,... more>> with proper breaks in the narrative even if the jokes don't always land. The ending was cliche yet wrapped up all plot points satisfyingly and neatly.

Overall, if rated in a vacuum, this story would get a 4/5 stars. It's above average and an entertaining read. However, with the strange score inflation on this site, I feel that only a 5 stars would be appropriate since it's vastly better than many other action shounen and even many romance shounen which drags on and then never had a satisfying ending. <<less
