One day, I suddenly became the main character in a game.

But the more I look at this character, the more I can only sigh.

His stats are the lowest, his talent is the worst, and he has no connections at all.

But then…

– You acquired [Heavenly Martial Body]

– You became the owner of [Book of the War God]

“So what?” I said. “I’m the ultimate veteran!”

And so, the legendary play of this ultimate veteran begins!

The world-building has a unique style that combines the real world and other fantasy worlds. The clan that the MC belongs to and his use of its resources is a lot of fun.

The martial arts become more varied once you get the spear, the fighting strategies and human relationship strategies are very strategic moves that have been found through countless iterations as a "veteran" player.

The golden finger, which skips the learning curve that gives the MC his power and gives him an extraordinary ability, is absurd, but it doesn't overdo... more>> it in terms of the threats he has to deal with.

Minor spoilers about the MC's mental state:

Spoiler

He wants to go back to his old world and he doesn't like this very intense and dangerous world. When he meets his ex-fiancée, he says he will see her as his "daughter" in classic Korean novel style.

I don't understand why any rational person would want to return to their original world after receiving so much. Anyway, after a certain period of time, we realize that MC is mentally used to this world.

There's no lull in momentum, which starts to make it feel stale. The pacing is always plot thread>development>experience. There's not much lull in the pacing to keep the beats landing as loud as they could have otherwise.

With the ticking clock, I feel we're feeling too in control, making the use of a deadline for survival, a lame duck sentiment.

I think the action is done well enough, although some elements feel sloppy, but that's infrequent. The protagonist is frustrating in a subtle way. They know they're in a world of a... more>> game, and that they can die, but we're given so much harem subplot bloat, with no progress that it feels like garnish. Not supposed to be enjoyed, just there to make the rest seem more impressive... but it's not impressive.

The guy is given a golden opportunity to explore that dynamic in a life where he would otherwise have no access. I feel that's a eunuch protagonist sentiment, that's pretending he's actually some badass above the fray sort of concept... that doesn't land. Our Protagonist's excuse is that he's too busy, meanwhile he has plenty of opportunities to make it land. Total eunuch frustrating concept. Our author doesn't know how to handle this aspect of the story, and make it feel convincing enough for the investment they're asking for.

This is a real annoyance to me, because romance or s*xual fantasy subplots where our hero is admired, but unblemished by relationships and their realities annoys me. A total noob mistake, for my tastes, where otherwise the writing is handled skillfully.

The plot is reasonably well done in how it delivers events as logical progressions of circumstances, but the writing does little to flourish these normal events into something greater.

When you hear the song, and you're waiting for a crescendo, you'll get what I mean. There's a generally fine mediocre burger here, but you'll never remember it in a years time... because nothing it did impressed you.

A good time waster, and well done for what it is... but I'm left unimpressed. The 4 is purely on technical execution of the formula, but I don't feel any sense of mastery.

Like a chair, that you are happy to sit in, but you want to keep looking in the catalogue. You're looking for something better to come along because there's just something not quite right, and it leaves you uncomfortable.. <<less

This novel is really amazing. The world-building is very well done, and the characters are deep and well-developed. Every chapter keeps me hooked and wanting more. Honestly, the only downside is that I wish there were more chapters because it’s so good. Other than that, it’s absolutely perfect. Highly recommended!
