Basically, she played the genocide route, but then all the important NPCs regressed back to the starter town at final boss level with memories of her killing everyone. It's like if Sans Undertale showed up in the first five seconds of the game and said "You're gonna have a BAD time" blasting Megalovania with half the cast backing him up.

She's trying to do a pacifist route right off the genocide run and needs to befriend the NPCs at MAX hatred. Like, mu*der her on sight hatred. It's super interesting

This novel is so great. I can't believe I just found this out just this week.

Don't let the first few chapters turn you off, because after a while, you start to finally understand the context and love the characters in it.

Spoiler

The basic plot of the MC is that He, now She, is possessing a character in a game called "Lactea". The character she is possessing is called "Olivia". The main plot is her basically fixing the "past" by fixing regressors. Regressors are people who's memories are overlapping with their old and current one. Regressors are also the people who had a past relation with the MC. It's basically Undertale, except the MC is fixing her gen0cide route

Hmmm

This story is about, the male MC playing a game and decided to go genocide route one day and that came to bite his (later her) ass cause he fallen to the game world and now all the major NPC retain their memories at the genocide run and its now actively trying to kill him (her) and also the MC has to find a new ending in this super hard game

Story:

209 chapters meaning it couldnt really dive deep to all 15 regressor NPC but the npc that got screentime are... more>> ok, the relationship between the NPC and MC are really enjoyable to read, theres some really rushed and unfinished characterization and frankly as the author first book, I wont blame him cause writing 15 different important characters are a b*itch to deal with, not everybody is G.R.R Martin. Theres some story element that gets forgotten and glaringly huge plot holes

Spoiler

why the f*ck does korean author likes to use "the reason MC is here because the future heroines turn back time to help him and accidently started the whole plot" nonsense, like olivia reincarnated to male MC and just so happen to play a game where she originally came from but also somehow all the runs that male MC did are actually the exact runs that olivia did within the f*cking game, like does the inital run did by olivia or the male MC, but since male MC cant exist without olivia dying and not regressing how TF does olivia still exist holding the demon god immortality and simultanously reincarnated to high dimension??, also how TF did male MC manage to replicate 1k+ olivia runs and also whos the dev that originaly update the game that causes the male MC to fall into the game world/ lower dimension, its hinted that olivia did it but then it raise even MORE questions on how did olivia managed to affect the higher dimension where she literally straight up says that "lower beings could only observe higher dimension and nothing more" so then who TF is responsible for all this shit???? Also why TF do korean authors are determined to create this kind of story, it happen in Omniscient reader too, anyway huge plot holes but whatever

[collapse]
but aside from that its quite enjoyable 200+ chapters read

Dont come here to expect the second coming of omnisienct reader, just treat this as decent meal from your favourite restaurant (which is gamelike world), its miles better than your average fast food slop story (korean power fantasy where MC just destroys everything and gets everything) although this story is nothing special too so dont get your hopes up

Final thoughts

Its fine, olivia is an "OK" MC, she gets the job done, the supporting characters/ important NPC are also fine too, they play their job well enough, if decent was a physical being that you could touch then this story fits the feel when you touch/read it, the genderbend tag doesnt really affect the story one bit at all, the MC never questions that now she has a pair of b**ba and also lost his 3rd leg so you can treat that tag as non existent <<less

(Edited: Completed) This is one of the best novels I ever read. It fully explore the will of a human. It makes me very emotional in a good way.

In conclusion, I would recommend this novel to everyone.

(Original: Ch. 69) The novel is one of the more unique one that I have read so far. The story is very interesting with MC interaction with the regressers. Though sometime the translation may be abit confusing, but it's worth the read.

The story is about a guy who got turned into his game character after he destroyed the world for a game ending, and now he has to survive in the harsh game world with 15 main NPCs with their past life memories chasing for his life.

The plot is interesting, the backstory of the MC is also very interesting but the translation is a bit hard to understand (it gets better with time)

Its an interesting read so I give it a 9/10 (-1 for translation quality)

Subjective review: 1.8/5. (Sub-par, borderline bad.)

Objective review: 0.5/5 (awful, among the worst I have ever read.)

I can't continue reading this.

... more>> The translation quality of this series is awful. Not horrific MTL level of bad, but still consistently bad and for far too many chapters.

Additonally, I also feel like this author is an amateur. The prose is at the level of "I am here. I do this. Now I do this. Oh by the way that thing before is done but I didn't tell you." It's extremely jarring. Also, the speed at which it goes from A to B to XYZ is discombobulating. (I.E. Disorienting, confusing, etc.) The pacing is all over the place.

Very rarely do I have to reread things to understand what's going on. Here, I reread things and I still struggle to understand.

I also can't help but feel like the characters are extremely bland, and poorly built upon. Just from the first several chapters about the MC. I can tell you their name, who they are, and what they do. But that is it. It's as simple as 1, 2, 3. There is nothing else to them. There is no emotional attachment, no greater depth, nothing. They have the personality of a wet noodle. <<less

Game elements: check

Immersive fantasy world: check

Detailed & emotional characters: check

Give this WN a try if you're interested in a unique fantasy story. The variety of characters is great and the author goes in depth into their inner thoughts and emotions. Personally what makes the story stand out the most to me is this concept which I haven't seen being used before:

The MC has to obtain "clues" to change her past with the NPCs which comes with many difficulties e.g. She has to keep the past similar enough as to not change the previous ending while also keeping in mind what benefits she could gain for the present timeline.

It’s about a guy who ends up in the body of his in game avatar, Olivia. Yes, it’s a genderbender so beware of that if it bothers you.

While playing the game, Olivia had killed everyone achieving annihilation ending. As the summary explains, all these killed people regress after the dude ends up possessing Olivia. Now, Olivia is trying to reach the ending without killing anyone while everyone wants to kill her.

As the other review mentioned, the translation is a bit hard to understand but not the worst by any means.... more>> It’s very much readable for the most part and seems to get better. <<less

Nice premise, good execution and satisfying conclusion, though there are quite a bit of disappointing parts.

TS tag is useless. MC doesn't even dwell on this that much. The only thing this tag does is making relationship with 1st regressor a bit gayish I guess, but not that much.

Almost half of regressors are not really described in-depth:

Spoiler
    • Revolutionary and Demon Hunter have some mention about their relationship, but apart from this their past is not described.
    • Druid and 2 dragons have 0 description about their relationship with MC and their past.
    • King Mu has too little screen time to make him a memorable character.
[collapse]

I also wish there would be more description of MC's emotional state. Tbf, I wouldn't have restarted reading this novel without spoiler that
Spoiler

MC possessed his previous body

[collapse]

, because MC is
Spoiler

altering regressors memories and made 2 regressors to help him throughout countless timelines

[collapse]

without guilt according author's descriptions. It also took around 100 chapters to find out that MC is actually uncomfortable around one character, because he is a possessor and not the real Olivia.

There are also unanswered questions:

Spoiler
    • What's the deal with the system and why/how does it predict MC's actions? Was it made because of Aria's passing her time magic or how else does it give access to the clues?
    • Why and how did MC possessed his previous body?
    • What's the deal with the game and how did MC recreate his past life's regressions in his playthroughs?
    • Why in the world did MC TS'ed when he returned?
    • What is local goddess even doing when another god invaded into her territory apart from making a saintess, who contributes less that 1/15th part?
[collapse]

Novel also contains questionable moments like time travels and final antagonist. In addition to characters' regression author put a lot of effort into time manipulation, which could be not everyone's cup of tea. As for final antagonist he indeed does lack impact, though I personally quite liked it:

Spoiler

the antagonist is a god who has 0 personality and is only interesting because his immortality debuffs MC through timelines

Star Rating: 5/5

  1. Did not finish, do not recommend
  2. Didn't like it for several reasons
  3. Okay, satisfactory
  4. Very good read
  5. This is going on my lifetime favorites
Plot/Pacing: 4/5

  • Summary: I don't remember the main character's name, so I'm just going to refer to him as Olivia since he spends the entire series as Olivia for all intents and purposes. Olivia has completed many, many playthroughs of an RPG, which involve defeating the demons and saving the world, in her attempts to complete all the available endings. Her most recent playthrough of the game was a complete genocide route, which involved killing all her party members, all the citizens, all the monsters, demons, etc. Olivia wakes up in the body of the character "Olivia" and is determined to complete a hidden ending that came out in the newest patch, but she receives an ominous warning that says that there are 15 regressors that remember what Olivia did to them in her genocide route and came back with hostility in their hearts.
  • The beginning of the story starts off with a bit of a comedic undertone, nothing too serious. Olivia tackles regressors one by one with some new powers granted to her by whatever "system" transmigrated her into the game, and she tries to make the utmost of her knowledge of her previous playthroughs. I think how she handles the first few regressors is really well done. Each of them have a compelling history with Olivia and she deals with each of them in a unique way. I especially really liked the way Olivia handled her mentor, Melina.
  • Later
    Spoiler

incredible plotlines become intertwined through the concept of alternative timelines with different people being able to remember different things. Olivia and a few other regressors start tinkering with time magic and the plot becomes more complicated yet concrete with several mysteries resolving through our understanding as a viewer being supplemented with alternate points of view.

  • I think there is a big tonal and pacing shift in the plot that begins after

Olivia resolves Estee's regression clues by helping her get rid of the voices in her head.

    Spoiler

Once the story starts diving deep into different timelines, the story begins building up to an incredible climax and I want to say that I think the alternative timeline concept was done very well. I also liked the ending of the series and everything was resolved nicely, I was very satisfied.

    [collapse]
  • Overall, if it weren't for the middle of the story being a bit awkward, it would have been perfect, 4/5.
Setting: 4.5/5

  • The story is set in the world of a game that the main character plays, and I think that many times in similar gaming world settings, authors can get lazy with building the world - most give only details relevant to the story of the game. In this series, the world is vibrant and each of its areas tell incredibly rich stories. The empire, the wizards towers, the barren south, the dangerous port city, the ruined country, Machina, the demonic realm, etc. For a series only 200 chapters long that focuses on the interactions between the regressors, the world building is phenomenal.
  • Each area has its charms and follies, with their own cultures and politics. Though not every location is explored to equal depth, we're given enough to get a solid understanding of each location.
  • The power system in this world consists of the classic Aura and Magic, but Aura isn't really explored much. Magic, on the other hand, is explored to a point where I think it's a bit overbearing. With Olivia and the regressors representing the pinnacle of the game's world, they are very powerful individuals, but the scaling of strength becomes rather ridiculous despite being well-done.
  • Overall, the world-building is fantastic and the power system is a bit over-the-top but still enjoyable, 4.5/5.
Main Characters: 4.5/5

  • The main character, Olivia, is pretty in depth. We follow her journey to try to complete the hidden ending of a game where her previous playthrough of the game was a genocide route. Olivia is a strong Archmage specializing in Ice and Lightning (any other I/L mains here?) that spends the story with two main goals: save the world from the demons and don't let anyone die while doing so. Olivia is a character with some inconsistencies between the first half and second half of the series. She doesn't really experience growth, and in that respect, is kind of a Mary Sue. I think she's a great character in the beginning of the series, but she kind of just turns into a good tool to drive the story in the second half.
  • The main side characters are the 15 other regressors that desire to kill Olivia. This is where most of the meat of the story is, in my opinion. Keil, Melina, Rebekah, Estee, Aria, and Aurelia are the side characters with tons of development, and watching Olivia try to resolve their hostility is fun and incredibly rewarding. The rest of the side characters are kind of w/e and aren't really explored to the same extent.
  • I think the cast is great but I wish the other regressors were explored more. Melina's story was especially compelling for me.
  • Overall, Olivia is a bit disappointing, but several regressors are so well written that they carry the story for me, 4.5/5.
Overall Writing: 4/5

  • I think the biggest complaint I have about the story is that I don't think the author really knew how she wanted to steer the story when she first started writing it, and I felt the change in Olivia's characterization to be a bit confusing. I do think that the author ties it up nicely in the end, which was honestly something I didn't expect and was pleasantly surprised by.
  • Other than that, I think the writing is well done, 4/5.
Enjoyability Factor: 4/5

  • I went into this expecting your run-of-the-mill transmigration power fantasy, but it was a lot more complex than I was ready for. The characters were fun and their interactions were great.
  • The biggest thing that worsened my enjoyment of the series was the god-awful translations. Sometimes, I had no idea who was saying what, and I had to guess based on context clues. Genders were completely mixed up, and some terms just didn't make sense.
  • The story itself was really fun to read, and the ending was done very well - it's pretty rare for me to like how a series' ending is written.
  • Overall, the series was good enough for me to enjoy despite the weak translation, and it feels wrong for me to judge a series based on the translator, so I'll give it a 4/5.

I greatly enjoyed this one. I'm not going to lie and say that the translation in no way holds it back, but I marathoned this would in about three days despite the translation quality, which I think is to it's credit. I think I'd fairly rate this as a 4.5, because while I don't hold the translation against it, even the author admits the ending portions get a bit rushed--but I'm bumping it to 5 to get more eyes on this one. In an ideal world, I hope this one... more>> gets adapted to a manhwa and takes off a bit, enough that the author gets to draw on some of the ideas he left in the drafts.

Still, for now, I rate this one as an exceptionally solid example of the genre. If we ever somehow get some backstories with the other regressors and more Aria in general--especially that Academy arc the author teased--I could see myself rating this an unconditional 5/5. <<less

there was a huge battle before the demon king fight which I found utterly s*upid. They both had the same goal so honestly the fight was meaningless. Even the author admitted in the afterword that the 2nd half felt a bit lacking mainly due to his irl stuff getting in the way.

I also have some gripes with the fact that he turned into a girl when he returned to korea. I feel like if he stayed a boy there would have been a more interesting story.

Still the conclusion was satisfying. Although I must admit this needs more after story besides the one with the saintess. <<less
