After eight long years as an idol trainee, his debut at a major entertainment company fell through. He moved to a mid-sized agency and finally succeeded in debuting as part of a four-member group.

Just as they began walking the red carpet of success under the spotlight…

“I’m sorry. It’s true that I bullied other students in school just to look cool without thinking of the consequences.”

Not even a month after debut, the leader left.

“I have nothing to say. I’m sorry. I’ve been in a relationship since high school, and… the result of that love came a little too soon.”

Then the main dancer left. Just when it seemed like they might continue as a duo…

“I attended a senior’s party and accidentally got involved with drugs. Even though I knew it was wrong, I reached for it again without realizing. I’m truly sorry.”

Even the youngest member left like that. All of this happened within a single year of debut.

I debuted in a group, but unintentionally ended up all alone.

We tried to continue with a second lineup of members, but all we got was mockery from everyone. And then—

I suddenly opened my eyes and found myself back at the time when all the members had just left and I was delivering an apology broadcast?Thinking it was just a dream, I said, “To hell with it!” and went all out—but the response… wasn’t bad at all.

And this time, it was real. Can Seo Yoonseul begin a new chapter in her idol life?

MC is hated for things beyond his control, and the universe has decided to bring him back to the start, where it all went downhill for him. No system or anything, just MC and his memories of the future being his only advantage, he joined an idol survival show where they re-debut failed idols.

Pretty interesting take on the idol novel since this one focuses more on the relationship between the idol, his image, and the general public/fandom. This novel presents a more negative side of the entertainment industry than the... more>> typical idol novel, and I enjoyed it very much. Great 4/5 novel for me!

Alhough there are some things that made me uncomfortable but it's pretty realistic given that this is a portrayal of an average k-netizen toxicity.

Spoiler

The way the netizens labeled the ex-ganster-m members (and even MC) as "criminals" really put me off. Granted that the leader and maknae are criminals in Korean law pov but the lack of critical thinking and empathy just frustrates me.

  1. Leader Park Soohyeol- did violent school bullying so imho, he's the only one who's truly a criminal and deserves the pariah status he had with very bleak future options
  2. Eugene- got his longtime (like since highschool) girlfriend pregnant; like come on! Do yall really think idols don't date? The way they label him as criminal and traitor is frustrating, how much entitlement they had over this poor man's life just cause of his occupation is crazy
  3. Maknae Choi Junseong- drank alcohol as a minor and did drugs like once. Since he's described as a minor, I assume that he's below 19 (Korean standard), bruh imagine being so young and doing something s*upid and somehow that defines your entire life. This kid was just so stressed about his idol group that out of stress he drank alcohol and while under the influence was given drugs by some random. What he needs isn't public scrutiny but help; get this kid a therapist!
  4. MC Seo Yoonseol- literally did nothing wrong but was blamed for everything cause the general public aren't capable of critical thinking and his shitty company forced him to take blame. They literally witch hunted this guy and I truly admire his mental fortitude for still wanting to be an idol after being treated worst that sh*t by both the industry and the idol fandom
