I let out a bitter smile at that look which told me everything had been futile.

For I finally realized they never had any intention of understanding me, no matter what I did.

The moment I saw those emotionless eyes, I felt an overwhelming sense of emptiness and spoke words I had never dared utter in her presence before.

Basically, this is another game/novel possession story.

WARNING... this overview may contain some spoilers from the prologue of the story. I don't consider mentioning events from the prologue as spoiler, but I do understand that some people may consider it, so, you have been warned.

The protagonist, who was a big, like, really big, fan of one of the heroines of the novel, the least favourite one between the readers, got transmigrated into the said novel, as the villain/extra character who was the fiance of the said heroine and was destined... more>> to leave the story early on, beaten and having his fiancee taken by the original protagonist of the story.

Because of his fanboyism towards her, he decided to change the story, becoming a good guy and trying to win the heroine's heart. But, sadly, that didn't happen, the heroine continued to despise him, no matter what he did to show her his goodwill.

He kept trying to change her view of him until the day her family framed him for something completely absurd, something he had not done, and she supported the accusation. This was the last straw for him. He became furious and called off the engagement.

Now, back at his family home, he decided to keep at least part of his original plan, avoiding the bad ending that awaited him. And to do that, he had to stop all the tragic events that happened with him and his family throughout the novel's story.

That's, basically, how the story begins.

To be honest, I find it much more interesting when the protagonist of these possession stories try to change the story, instead of keeping it intact. Because of that, I'm liking this one quite a bit.

Ps.: Fiancee's regret incoming? I hope so... hahaha... <<less

Saw some remarks that this is the first work for this author; if it's true, then it explains how rough the story is.

The beginning plot starts out with Damian, a modern regressor that was a villainous fiance to Elisia, the one girl who he completely was obsessed with before he was reborn. Damien notes that no one understands why or how hard Elisia has it, but in actuality, the action he takes to help her is rather whimsical.

The author failed to try and develop the relationship between Damian and Elisia

All... more>> Damian did was somehow brews a special tea that helps alleviates Elisia's hallucinations, nightmares, and fatigue, and he expects her to treat him differently because of that.

She works on state affairs all day long, and he decides to use resources to train himself — in a city that seems to barely have food to feed their citizens because of the harsh coldness.

Of course, his solution to this is bringing a sun spirit to warm the land up, but he tells no one, not even Elisia about it.

It pretty much reads as "I'm a nice guy doing all of this for my oshi, why won't she notice me after all this?" The author plays into that deeply because Elisia basically had no reason to believe her "delinquent" fiance did anything of importance.

The "solutions" Damian "provided" is so superficial that it makes you wonder how this city even survived if they can't even afford to live without his intervention. And then he throws a tantrum when Elisia doesn't believe or is interested in what he has to say when his actions are considered suspicious prior to an invasion of demon.

Imagine that he went into this story saying he was the biggest fan of Elisia, even writing fanfics and creating merch for her, and then automatically default to eating his words because none of his actions made any remote sense to her. So much for "if no one loved her, I will".

There is even more rough parts to the story, like his bodyguard knight never questioned why he had changed or didn't even know basic things about his family. <<less

This novel offers a compelling take on the revenge story genre, centering around an antagonist whose unrequited love drives him to extremes. His disappointment with the heroine shapes much of the plot, leading to a series of events fueled by pain, longing, and ultimately, revenge. The characters are well-developed, making it easy to feel both sympathy and frustration toward them. The story keeps a good balance between emotional depth and gripping tension, making it hard to put down. The premise is intriguing, and the execution does justice to the themes... more>> of love, betrayal, and vengeance. Looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds! <<less

Honestly the MC is a douche, this reads like a teen boy wanting revenge because his crush rejected him. Keep in mind she had little reason to believe he had suddenly done a 180 and reformed his s*umbag behavior out of nowhere, he never really explains anything about any of that to her or anyone else.

MC is willing to let an entire people freeze, starve and die off because he wants to be petty, he did nice but not really noticable things, he didn't explain anything to anyone nor really... more>> explain what it is he was doing to keep the winter away. <<less

Edit: Stars to 2/5, edit text below

Read the first 15 chapters (latest as of now) and the writing seems mildly promising. The plot isn't really something to speak to length about, so far it's progressed like one would expect from it if you've read novels of this theme/genre before. A few plot holes but nothing really major considering there hasn't been much yet and the writing seems to suggest they'll be filled in soon so I'm keeping hopes up. Translation is very good, as usual with Fenrir <3 Will come... more>> back after first 2 arcs are wrapped up and edit.

Edit: Yeah it's going bad bad, the characters take actions you'd never expect them to, not cuz of development but just cuz the author wants them to. Riddled with tropes and archetypes like every webnovel in this genre, and the author assumes the reader knows them all so they don't explain character actions, assuming you saw it coming because every novel has it. New characters are introduced with nothing about them explained assuming you know their archetype. Plotholes I hopef would be filled aren't and there's just more added. Wouldnt recommend reading

Not spoilers but general plot, covering prologue and first couple chapters:
Spoiler

Protagonist is a huge fan of a character and reincarnated as her fiance, though in the story they break off and she falls for the male lead of the original story. Protagonist understands why she puts up a cold front and acts the way she does, knowing the original story and simply does his best to get closer to her and ease her life. Then we get to the scene in the prologue where they break up because in person he couldn't deal with a cold lover after all. Story so far is covering their engagement annulment and families but I won't get into spoiler territories, upcoming arc story arc seems it'll cover the things I feel might end up as plot holes if not handled correctly so I'd say let the story brew a bit more before giving final judgements.

This novel is well translated but exceptionally poorly written despite having a somewhat interesting concept. The protagonist is positioned as a relatively normal if not moral person, and yet is comfortable with the suffering of others, has no empathy even for someone he claims to have loved. On top of that motivations and actions for characters who aren’t the protagonist seem to be decided randomly, with the FML from the title deciding that she was responsible for positive changes despite the author not indicating that she had done anything or... more>> had any reason to believe she was responsible. Characters lack descriptions, motivations, and anything of substance. There’s maybe an interesting story buried in here but the author was unable to extract it, and it only becomes more frustrating as the main character becomes a more and more selfish and cruel character, and yet is not treated as the monster he’s acting like. <<less

This story really needs some work.

If I were to sum up the whole story then I would use the words "Laughed hollowly"

I'm not kidding, you will see that phrase an unusual amount of times. I counted it used 3 times in one chapter once which I find really funny.

... more>> Anyways, the story reads as a regret fantasy for the author, however, it isn't completely hopeless. The characters have an alright amount of depth but it's still rather mediocre and very nonsensical at times.

The world building is ok, but I wouldn't say it's unique. The action is just nonexistent. It mostly boils down to "I swing my hammer" and that ultimately wins him the fight.

Overall, the main character is boring and honestly quite unlikable. The world and action didn't stand out in the slightest. The writing also really needs work.

However, there is a fair amount of thought put into this story even if it is quite rough.

It's a mid-level revenge story that tries to be something more, but ultimately fails. What's worse is that the attempt ends up making it worse than if the author had just stuck with a generic revenge fantasy.

While trying to make the characters deep, it makes them inconsistent and nonsensical. Any intrigue is made boring with unimaginative asnwers to the questions posed by the story. And the narrative constantly struggles with its desire to be introspective while still adhering to the inherently immature nature of a revenge fantasy novel.

Ultimately, people looking... more>> for a tr*shy revenge story will be dissapointed by how seriously it takes its self and people looking for a serious story will be dissapointed by how poorly written it is. <<less

Spoiler

There is no really background on MC till you hit around chapter 30 and even then it still doesn't make sense on his current actions.

MC lives by the rules of "i do something without telling people and expect them to know I did it". This makes his part of the story just head scratching because it feels like a simp who couldn't get waifu-chan to notice him.

He LOVES waifu of the north. Nice, perfect, let him pamper her and made her fall for MC but obviously Waifu would notice if he does thing like make her COMMON tea in HIS definition or belief not to mention bring "warm" without really explaining HOW even AFTER he did it? Then gets mad because everyone suspects him or use him as a escapegoat? Obviously waifu MUST know he was the one to bring the warm... but just cause he did, it is even more suspicious.....

The tea is what blews my mind. To MC it's just a simple tea that he can make cause he knows the ingredients but it is just a unique tea, nothing mind blowing. Right? No, even if other people make it, they will not really get the effects cause spirits shenanigans. But, MC though that making tea for her was enough to get her attention and love? What? To him it was SIMPLE tea, even if the effect was mindblowing? He didn't know this. So his whole "i do x for her" is just MC delusion.

Hell, she suffers from hallucinations and extreme fatigue not to mention being overworked........ and MC thinks he is the one that deserves everything? The ONLY thing that I can give to MC is the fact she did laugh and said thanks to the original main character of this world. But that doesn't really mean she fell in love with said commoner old main character.

Hell, even after coming back to his country and seeing how the maids reacted to him doesn't clue him on how bad he used to be. So obviously waifu KNEW about the old him. Hell, his old character even interacted with black mages and suspicious individuals. This obviously made it to her too. So, is it REALLY that bad that she doesn't like him? If someone I knew was a extreme sexist as*hole suddenly did a 180 one day and proposed me? I will probably throw pepper spray on his face or wonder what is he actually aiming for cause he obviously is an a**hole.

So, yeah. MC "betrayal" feels more like a little kid rolling on the ground crying cause someone else got the last cookie.

Aside from that, everything else from the story is nice and love it. Yet every time we go back towards ex-waifu it pummels into wtf, stop it, she is already done for bro.
