I Faked a Pregnancy, but My Husband Returned

Before the original story begins, I reincarnated as a lowly noble burdened with debt. I managed to survive by selling bits of information to an underground guild, but even that has its limits.

However, as the story is about to start, I know that the villain’s family is looking for a fake contract daughter-in-law to pretend to be pregnant to delay the death declaration of their missing eldest son. If I take on that role for just a few months, I could earn a lot of money.

I was planning to live quietly as a dutiful fake daughter-in-law…

“If you stay here, I’ll give you all of Ekian’s inheritance.”

But the Duke, my father-in-law, likes me too much.

“Why solve everything with money? How about adopting her and remarrying her?”

The Duchess, my mother-in-law, wants to mess up the family registry.

“You did marry my brother, right? You won’t leave if he comes back, right?”

Even my brother-in-law, the villain of the original story, clings to me!

Meanwhile…

“They said after a while, they’ll divorce me and find me a good remarriage prospect personally.”

“…Remarriage? You mean to marry again?”

The head of the information guild, whom I used to sell information to, is acting strangely.

“That husband… he might come back.”

What nonsense is this? According to the original story, the eldest son of the villain’s family remains missing.

***

“E-Ekian? Is that you, Ekian?”

“You… you are back? Really?”

Impossible.

The eldest son of this house is never supposed to return!

“Yes.”

Who is this handsome man confidently walking into the mansion?

“I heard I got married. Where’s my wife?”

What? I suddenly have a super handsome husband!

This novel has been a fun ride! It started light and easy to read. From the earliest chapter it already hinted how the relationship between our FL and ML would be going forward. This is a slow burn, but the way their romance burn is the kind of burn that is satifying to read.

The focus of the story revolving the most around FL and ML. FL knowing almost to everything (like; what incident would happen to ML and the way she solved it is rather lackluster) is kinda a bummer,... more>> because of that the story is smooth sailing like a walk in a park. There isn't any specific conflict that sparks the story which is a bit shame... but regardless of that, how the FL interacted with our ML (This is the focus of the story) and his family is truly fun and hilarious.

The important point I liked the FL and the ML is that they're both honest about their feelings. No denials about it, just a little frustrating misunderstanding about our ML double persona (btw this doesn't count as spoiler because its hinted since earliest chapter about ML double persona).

I will be back to review it again when the novel is completed~ <<less

This is hands down one of the most enjoyable stories I've read in a long time.

The storyline flows nicely, had a good setup that didn't take too long so you didn't lose interest, and established the ML & FL in business partnership that kept getting funnier and more interesting as it unfolded. Agreed, their banter is amazing and I can't wait to see the 'married' couple grow, can already tell it is going to be a lot of fun.

The other Mayus family members are quite cute too as we get... more>> to know them, and I can't wait to see their connection to the FL develop more as we go along in chapters. Especially with the younger brother planning on scolding his older one for not being a good man for his sister-in-law. When those chapters start, I'm expecting a lot of laughs and more family bonding for sure.

Thank you so much for translating this novel, such an excellent job in translating too, which added to the enjoyment and ease of reading. <<less

Refreshing!!!

This is a hilariously amazingly an interesting novel. I am enjoying every single chapter. For the first time in a while I am really like sincerely enjoying a story without stressing too much about the plot or about the intentions of the ML. The story is so good that I am almost impatient for the next release. The ML & FL compliment each other so well. I love their interaction which already feels like a married couple's banter. Ahhhhhh....I am going to love this more & more in the future.... more>> A gem!

Thank you for the translations! I truly appreciate it. Please continue to update this more frequently! <<less

It’s so good!! ML is a pure green flag. The dialogue between the characters are wonderfully written. And the set up of them getting together slowly is wonderfully paced. I can’t get enough I wished I was fluent in Korean

Tropey romance lives and dies on the quality of the writing and characters, and I'm happy to say that this one doesn't disappoint! In fact, I actually really like it, it's captivating and charming despite it's flaws.

The good: A practical, clever, surprisingly insightful heroine who comes to terms with her feelings early on and often cuts straight to the point in meandering conversations (but tactfully!). Also, an in-universe explanation for her past life knowledge that ties into the plot! And a romance that builds upon a solid existing friendship! I'm... more>> here for it. You love to see it.

So far it seems to be going the battle for the throne route. The author's strength so far has been likable characters and witty banter, and hopefully that won't change as the politics ramp up.

Also, the translation has been great so far!

The bad: There's just no escaping the inevitable in European ambient romance novels, and they are:

  1. Long drawn out misunderstandings
  2. Male leads with black hair and red/blue eyes. Bonus points for being swordsmen.
Also, sometimes the worldbuilding is just a little too convenient (like magical paternity tests just for one specific family). That said, it's also sometimes surprisingly solid!

Overall a very fun story that's progressing reasonably and just getting started! I'm looking forward to more and will update this review as we progress :) <<less

I don't know, but I have a gut feeling that this novel won't go in the direction I would rather it go on. Because my gut feelings are basically never wrong, like that time it told me not to go outside when I almost got hit by a car, Imma pass on this one.

Spoiler

Her making enough money through selling info to avoid getting sold because of her debt, gaining the trust of the info guild leader and the mother-in-law seems very contrived and forced for plot convenience 😑 it makes her very Mary Sue-like idk. Also the way the maid brainwashed the little brother is too easy and soft and would've taken a way darker turn in a more realistic novel, not saying how though. The dialogue between them felt like it was written by a middle schooler who's never experienced emotional manipulation, it could've been more convincing if the author put in the effort. The brother is supposed to be a kid, not emotionally ret*rded. And of course, the husband just happens to be the gold leader, the pieces of the puzzle fit in nice and snug, a little too well.

[collapse]

To conclude, despite being fiction, the story is too contrived for my personal taste. It's to the point where it breaks my immersion in the story that I just don't feel like reading it again. But don't let my opinion stop you from enjoying this story if you're not having the same problems as me! <<less
