Xia Chenxi’s phone inexplicitly had an additional app called Love Nurturing. In the game, the gloomy and beautiful little person sat quietly, covered in injuries.

[It seems to be injured! Dear player, will you accept the mission to obtain medical tape to help it? After completing the mission, you will obtain a mysterious title that can be used to protect yourself during the invasion of the black fog.]

At first, Xia Chenxi didn’t want to play, but this game really gave too much!

Somehow, in the depths of the world, without a name, he wanted to destroy the world, but he was touched by an invisible hand and given countless care.

He strived to maintain his seemingly obedient and harmless demeanor, but behind the scenes, he went crazy trying to find that person!

Xia Chenxi never expected that one day, when he woke up, food appeared on his table, the furniture in his room was neatly arranged, and invisible hands were always caring for him.

Xia Chenxi: There must be something staring at me!

Although it is hinted at in the title I feel the need to iterate that this is a horror novel, there is a lot of really grotesque descriptions and I like horror so this normally wouldn't bother me much except the other main component of the story is cooking and taking care of the ML so it can get pretty jaring that the MC is in the middle of a life threatening battle with unearthly horrors but has to pull out his phone because its time to cook for the... more>> soft (looking) and cute slightly tsun Ml. One thing I find quite appealing is that while the MC is a bit op, his super power is one that requires him to be injured to use it and most of his wins come from him being able to calmly analyze the situation when everyone is to scared to think straight. <<less

I really like it. I thought it was going to be an instance type of unlimited flow, but that wasn't the case. It's a everything-is-connected kind of horror, so some things that may seem trivial at best can turn out to be important (and vice-versa). It's like a puzzle, and each time I felt like I could piece it back together, they were like nope! It's more complicated than that. One advice I have to say, don't be like me and think that not named people are not important. Sometimes... more>> they get named forty chapters later when they reappear and damn my memory is bad lmao

I will definitely reread this story later now that I know all the how and why. Feels like a whole new perspective unlocked!

Spoiler

can't believe the first monster MC saw would stay annoying for most of the story lmao I really thought once he was gone he wouldn't reappear haha..

[collapse]

The romance is pretty secondary, though the nurturing is kind of important (and pretty funny when it's between absolute abject psychological horror scenes lol). Some times I was like, no don't go back to the action, I want more of the pampering!!! And others I was like, wait are you really going back to your phone when this problem is getting bigger?? Like, the horror imagery was pretty good sometimes. I wasn't expecting it, but I'm not complaining!

Spoiler

especially with the fields, damn I wish we got more than just a glimpse of them. It's a pity MC couldn't go there even when he tried - and when he finally could, it was final battle time lmao

[collapse]

It was also really interesting to see the evil god grow, as an entity and as a person. He calls himself "it" and has no name for the majority of the story, and start out really pessimistic and consumed by rage. The change is gradual, and he makes mistakes (though he is lucky MC didn't see them lmao), but he tries his best to remedy to the situation. Even his yandere tandencies get down a bit, even if he still tries to act like he's a big bad guy. But their whole relationship is sugary sweet and so not toxic. I was often scared there would be some bad misunderstandings that would ruin it, but there was only one (and it was resolved pretty quickly thanks to communication), and it wasn't for a lack of opportunities lmao I think the fact that the MC is a genuinely good person who tolerates a lot (due to his childhood) and is not scared to embrace different/new things helps a lot. And it makes me love him even more hehe...

So yeah, I like the MC and the ML - even if they aren't perfect, they try their best and it's what matters :))

Spoiler

Poor ML only gets a name in the last chapter of the main story lmaoo

I also think that's also the chapter when they get together - so a really late romance. Not complaining tho, they were sweet before, and get even sweeter in the extras.

[collapse]

I absolutely loved some of the concepts used. Wish I could have seen more of them, but I understand the story was already pretty long. At some point I was scared it would be some sort of rushed ending, but I think most issues were resolved accordingly, especially considering MC and ML's powers. I also appreciate the fact that even if ML used his powers to deal with something that everyone was scared of pretty easily, at least MC and other secondary characters were prepared for it, not just waiting for some deus ex machina.

Spoiler

It felt at first like Elysium/Paradise arc and the Gentleman Doll arc were resolved pretty quickly, especially after all the prettu scary warnings. But in the end, it feels more fitting. Because after all, they were never MC's enemy. It was just another monster using their existence to scare/entice others. Wish we could have seen more tho : (

And for the Gentleman Doll Shop's resolution... lmao. What an ending. It actually made me laugh.

(I'm just frustrated by the lack of info on the problem between the Gentleman Doll shop and the Door's faces. Like, I wanna what the deal was! And especially what happened to those faces!!! I ended up really liking them lol)

[collapse]

The secondary characters were... interesting. Really shows how morally grey characters can have different impacts. I was frustrated sometimes because MC could have helped in some occasions, but I understand that realisticly speaking, it was for the best to wait. Also on the realistic side... the deaths and the not-deaths of some characters. Sometimes, even if you try your best you can't win. And often, survival really relies on luck, and luck doesn't only favors good people. And it's also easy to make innocent mistakes that can get a pretty big impact later on

Spoiler

sad the guy (lu something I think) ended up dying bc of the weird monster that was in the walls : ((

on the other hand, MC and the government showing on the scarecrow fields ready to fight to death... only to interrupt ml's plan to fight against the big red brain worm thingy was pretty funny ngl like, get out the way mf lmao

It's an interesting, overall well-written novel.

The horror is definitely above average, a mix of gore, surrealism, and body horror.

Worldbuilding is very solid, there are a few moments when the writer seemed to have forgotten one or two established facts, but it's generally stable and consistent, with no major holes or errors.

... more>> Characterisation is the weakest point, not necessarily all of it, mostly the ML and certain aspects of the MC.

ML is written very amateurish and cliché, with a lot of repetitions that make him seem like someone with 8th-grader-syndrom, or the writer being very young and simply not good enough to write this kind of character.

And it's a shame because parts of him are done really well and are interesting, that makes it even worse whenever he's written badly – which sadly is more often than not.

Spoiler

Repeating the same three things hundreds of times just doesn't work.

He misunderstand MC, gets face slapped, is happy because he was wrong, misunderstands MC, gets face slapped, again and again.

The monster in his heart wants to break free, MC does anything, monster calms down or gets shredded by the ML, then he laments about how much of a monster he is.

"I want to destroy the world" – MC does anything – "I can't do that!" – and so on.

[collapse]

I have no idea how many times these three variants have been done in the 190 chapters I've read, and it leads to ML's character development making basically no consistent progress, then when he finally starts to actually grow, there aren't many chapters left to do it properly.

There could have been, but the writer decided that everything between the MC and ML needs to be shown from both sides, every interaction repeats with a shift in perspective but isn't limited to their respective reaction, it recounts the whole situation.

The writer obviously just didn't know how to portray character development without a complete perspective shift, despite the novel being in third-person-omniscient.

It's a lack of knowledge about how to utilise it properly.

The last negative point is the "idiot plot".

Some things only work because the otherwise very intelligent MC is suddenly an idiot.

Spoiler

He takes the game as a game, knows that it was made by something that's connected to the monsters/black mist, yet thinks the ML is just a game character.

Despite constantly noting that he's too realistic for that, but never suspects that it's a real person.

In addition, he thinks ML is some harmless weak chicken, even though he knows that a lot of monsters pretend to be weak and/or human.

It makes absolutely no sense for him to be this dense, careless, and delusional when he's normally the complete opposite.

[collapse]

Despite all the negative aspects, it's a fun novel for horror lovers that can accept flawed writing. <<less

The story was good at the beginning, but towards the end, it became bland. The villains appeared only briefly. I was expecting a great fight, but the ML resolved it too quickly. It was very anticlimactic, and my excitement vanished. Also, the love story between the MC and the ML felt like there were no romantic feelings; it was more like a father-son relationship. The ending was too rushed, so their romantic feelings didn't develop properly. I was hoping for a lemon scene, but sadly, the story was too innocent.... more>> But overall, the story is very good. <<less
