Gu Zuo: Are you sick?

Gongyi Tianheng: You have medicine?

Gu Zuo: You’re sick!

Gongyi Tianheng: If I say I’m sick, can you cure me?

Gu Zuo: If I say I have medicine, would you want it?

Gongyi Tianheng: However much you have is how much I want.

Gu Zuo: However much you want is how much I have.

Gongyi Tianheng: Then bring it all out.

Gu Zuo: …

Simply speaking, a scaredy-cat shou transmigrated and had to think of a way to survive. He had a golden finger called Medicine Refining System, but unfortunately, he didn’t have the ingredients needed to refine medicine and level up.

A great young master to an empire’s preeminent clan had a super high IQ, but his potential for cultivation was low. Unfortunately, pill refiners were too hard to develop, and weren’t restricted to his personal service. But he could acquire plenty of ingredients.

Two people, one was sick and one had medicine. Therefore, the one who was sick kept the one who had medicine, and everyone was happy.

over 500+ chapters available on chrysanthemum garden

I can't believe I was actually hesitating a while about whether or not to read this novel. I then started it bc I heard some good things about the ML and then I was absolutely f*cking blown away by how good this was. I binge read like 500+ chapters in a bit more than a week because this danmei was THAT GOOD. This is a must-read absolutely amazing transmigration xianxia danmei that deserves a wayyyy higher rating.

This is a slowburn danmei with over 1000... more>> chapters completed. Emphasis on the 1000 chapters. If you don't like extreme slowburns and long stories, don't read. Translations are ongoing. I honestly love almost every part of this danmei.

WORLDBUILDING: The worldbuilding (as xianxia commonly have) is some of the best I've read. It's genuinely so fascinating just reading about how our MC and ML climb up the ladder of strength and power and how they do so. I love learning more about the world they're in, its power systems, and its hierarchical systems. It's just so stunning and interesting. Author does a really great job of showing what the martial world is like. The power systems in this world are very complicated and extremely well developed. We learn more and more about the power systems as it ties in very heavily to the plot, and we're learning new things even hundreds of chapters in. I love how the author manages this.

MC: MC transmigrates as a 15 year old kid into this world (which some people seem to forget about when they complain about him acting his age), which makes him a pretty naive and innocent guy, but never to the point where is annoying. I honestly found MC really, really endearing and cute all throughout this danmei. This is also a great set-up for our MC's fantastic character development. I really wanna sigh in admiration and happiness when I think about how far our MC has gotten. A disappointing amount of reviewers really don't understand his character--the MC is a *regular person*--but they hyped themselves up and expect him to be someone he's not.

I've seen people complain about how ML stands out and takes all the glory while MC is underestimated and ignored by everyone. First, I need to ask them if this is even a bad thing? If MC's true skills were revealed, he'd be killed. immediately. His abilities were more than enough reason for extremely powerful people to either eliminate him or force him to serve them. As far as I'm concerned, ML taking all the aggro is a help, not a harm. Next, being underestimated is a good thing for when you actually want to survive. MC at the time did not have enough ability to confidently defend himself at the time because he was a pill refiner, not a fighter, and was still learning his ability. Next is that MC himself did not want attention. Idk if you understand, but having the attention and piercing gazes of people way stronger than you hooked onto every action you do can be very scary and unwanted. Even more, people can just be naturally shy like that. MC is reasonable for not wanting this. With attention comes danger. Life threatening danger.
Spoiler

But even then MC will grow in strength, learn how to fight and defend himself confidently, and eventually reveal his strengths to the world and become very known and well respected in the public. It just takes time and character growth.

[collapse]

M;: ML is SUCH A CHARACTER. Genuinely. He's so well developed and fleshed out and is now probably one of my favorite MLs ever now. ML just has so much depth, treats the MC sooo damn well, and is extremely smart. And his intelligence isn't just some contrived sh*t made up by the author--we can SEE just how smart he is through his decision making. I can just recall reading through some of his plans and being hella impressed bc they were like killing 4 birds with one stone. He's just *stunning.* He's also possessive, but not to the point where is takes over and restricts MC's freedom, and I love that about him. He might have possessive tendencies, but he refuses to ever subject MC to less freedom and more restrictions. He's just amazing like that.

I don't understand the people who say that MC is dumb or that there's no romance or that the ML takes advantage of and exploits the MC. It's like they can't grasp the context and subtext between their actions and decisions. ML is hands-down one of the most well-written characters I've ever read. MC starts off as a 15 year old kid whose decision making skills are pretty admirable upon finding himself stranded in a strange xianxia world.
Spoiler

yeah, their relationship starts off as a business transaction (obviously) but becomes so much more than that. Great development here. Once again, SLOWBURN. Some people say that they don't think MC should've revealed the system so early. I need to remind them that the MC is a 15 year old stuck in a strange world with absolutely no one to support him. He needed to put all his cards on the table or else ML would've been too suspicious. MC had no way of explaining the powers that he got otherwise. He barely even understood the world at the time, how could he ever make up a sensible reason for his strange capabilities in front of our genius ML without getting it torn apart like fodder? People are way too good at ignoring the fact that our MC is still a teenager at this point in time. MC also had made a deal to ensure that ML could not hurt him. At this point in time, MC had to go all or nothing or else he would die.

[collapse]

ROMANCE: Romance is, of course, a slow burn. I think they actually get together ~400s chapters, which is a while. But they're really cute together and when they finally confess their feelings it's just really satisfying. Moreover, the MC and ML's development into getting closer and then into a relationship is sooo f*cking stunning. The way they change from strangers to lovers is really well developed and written. Their relationship is, surprisingly enough, like *equals* to me. Yes, equals. They have both saved each others' lives over the years and become each others' biggest benefactors, and ML 100% sees MC as his equal too. He doesn't degrade him, take away his freedom, or take advantage of MC (which some people seem to not realize). If you continue to read through all the chapters, you'll completely understand what I mean. The amount they've helped each other is both immense and can't be compared with one another. MC is absolutely not degraded to "ML's cheerleader" as others might say. ML is not forceful nor r*pey. They have an amazingly natural growth and just a great bond that comes from living together, trusting each other, protecting each other, growing together, etc. If you have the patience to read a 1000 chapter novel, the romance is truly top tier. Again, this takes time.
Spoiler

one of my favorite parts in the story is where ML is nearly killed by a very, very strong cultivator who was doing shitty things that he shouldn't have. MC freaks out and, as revenge, uses his pills to place a bounty on the guy and hounds this powerful cultivator to kill himself. MC makes a very large name for himself and no one ever ignores or underestimates him after that. When they see him next to ML, they now acknowledge him and shit. In fact, I'm pretty sure he gained a top 10 spot in a kind of "sinner pill maker list, " which is cold. MC development, people, as long as you read enough to reach it. It was just amazing.

[collapse]

SIDE CHARACTERS: The plotline and side characters are *beautiful.* really. There's great side characters with their own feelings and skills, who aren't made to just toot MC or ML's horn. There are capable female characters and unique people with their own stories and personalities. What's more, the author DOESN'T just toss them aside and forget about them a few hundred chapters later. She makes sure that the MC and ML remember and continues on the lives of these side characters.
Spoiler

Huang Li is a surprisingly unique and compelling character to me. Him being born a girl but considering himself a boy is rarely seen in danmei, and the way it's addressed is pretty good. I love how strong he is.

[collapse]
I also don't find this novel very against female characters--in fact, one of the strongest people in history is a widely-respected woman.

PLOT: Plotline is extremely well-developed. MC and ML's road to gaining power is extremely sensible and well-explained. I LOVE reading about how they pass their own hurdles and gain their own experience. It's never boring and it's always new and different situations where MC and ML gain new skills and develop even more to cross them. I never skipped anything in this 500 chapter binge read. It was just that good. Love love love.

As for the people who haven't read the entire story but still have the gall to say that certain plot points or characters won't be important in the future--they're wrong. If you haven't finished reading, you obviously won't know what will happen in the future, so what brought you to say that? While some very insignificant side characters won't be reappearing (it's life, side acquaintances are obviously going to eventually lose touch, especially considering a major future plot point), there will be reappearances of more significant characters, plot points, and friends. It's funny when you read a review complaining about a point they didn't like and knowing that they're wrong and would've realized it if they read further. Overall, a stunning must-read of a glorious transmigration xianxia novel. I have nothing but praise. <<less

"MC is the most submissive, unintelligent MC I have ever met. I usually complain when a FMC gets carried by the Male Lead and is basically reduced to a pet. This MC is a pet, he scampers behind the ML, he obeys the ML, the ML gives him head pats. The MC is an OP pharmacist and doctor - but the ML gets all that credit. The MC also doesn't make a move without the ML telling him to. The ML also knows and uses the system and the MC's... more>> space - because the MC is too fragile and naive to be trusted with his own inheritence."

"If you want to read about pill refining I'd recommend The Legendary Master's Wife and I shall Seal The Heavens. Merely, spare yourselves this claptrap. " LMAO the reviewer literally just described the plot of The Legendary Master's Wife. That's all I have to say. Power Gap in The Legendary Master's Wife say what. That is why I quit that novel. ML in The Legendary Master's Wife could also enter MC's hidden space but since he's already OP he didn't bother using it.

Why does the MC not get credit? Maybe cuz there are stronger people than both ML and MC that can slap them into dust. The Legendary Master's Wife had OP ML already built up while this novel's ML is still building up.

This is the best cultivation BL The Legendary Master's Wife was a joke of a cultivation novel. It was for h**ny kids. <<less

I loved this novel, first of all I am not used to such long stories because I get bored after reading so many chapters, but this novel is as entertaining as the legendary master wife, each chapter leaves you hooked, but I feel that it is not explained very well the way of cultivating in this world, at least not for someone with little experience in cultivated novels.

First of all, I loved the MC, he is a bit silly but not in such a way that they have to take... more>> care of him, but rather that he has logical thoughts and smart that even without it ML can become just as powerful. But the ML is just as amazing too, I'm glad that it can be great without relying on anything and anyone.

The way their relationship grows makes it more realistic, I'm not underestimating fast love novels but it's refreshing to see how love grows little by little, I won't lie to you, sometimes I want to go into the book and yell at them to get together at once, but it's still cute.

Even the system is more reliable than other systems I read, it's fair and kind with rewards, and at the same time strict as to encourage the protagonist to improve, not like the systems that are so useless or very bad.

As I mentioned before I feel that this is not a novel for those just starting out with cultivated or xianxia but once you get the hang of it you will see that this is one of the great bl stories ever written.

Y'all know like in those typical BG xianxia level-up novels that every protagonist needs a cheat-like ability right? Well this book is kinda like that, but from the golden finger's perspective.

In the beginning, the MC is described to be quite weak and soft, but later on he learns how to fight and can actually stand his own ground. I really like the equality in this novel and how the ML isn't just pampering and carrying the MC all the time, but instead the MC sometimes carries the ML.

If I could... more>> compare this novel to any other one, It would definitely be LMW (Legendary Master's Wife) since they have just about the same concept (MC is a alchemist/doctor type of dude and ML is the fighter) and if you've ever tried LMW, I guarantee that this one should be good too! Of course, they're not having smex every 5 seconds like in LMW, but I really do appreciate the time an effort the author put into the worldbuilding and storyline.

PS. I think I'll be 80 by the time all 1000+ chapters of translations are out TwT <<less

Ermm not much gonna write except MC is very naive and considering he's 15 and in a very dangerous world, looking for someone to be dependent on is natural imo.

When we're first introduced to the ML Idk why but he just felt so fake to me, like he gave me red flags and that his 'Prince charming' aura felt unreal Idk who to explain it.

But yeah, the way MC got so charmed by ML kinda made me uhhh okay... But then the big no no came when MC blatantly exposed his secrets to the ML like why??

Just because you pity him and find him inspirational / admire him doesn't mean you should do that, to me it was just an incredibly dumb move (and coming from a modern world with so much information and knowing not to trust strangers.... It was literally the same as telling a stranger on the street where your home address is, not very smart) and the ML was already very cooperative anyways so MC would've been able to find the correct cure by himself and you know, let him learn.

But oh well. I couldn't really bring myself to finish reading it bc the ML just really rubbed me the wrong way even tho he's pretty nice to MC.

MC is too silly and dumb for me to handle, I like my smart MCs and even silly ones that aren't too s*upid but this one is too much for me.

I read some other reviews that said ML was manipulative or something and makes the MC dependant on him and I guess that might be the red flag I felt for him although I usually don't feel this way to other manipulative MCs or ML's tbh.

i love every bit of the story, fromthe MC being naive and lacking confidence to growing up being confident while still naive, hahaha. It's an entertaining story and I don't regret picking it up. I am looking forward to the continuation and can't help but wonder how and when the MC and ML will realize their feelings.

[I can't brave the mtl, so my opinion is based on the translated chapters so far (right own, 173) ]

I am immensely thankful to the translator (s). I Have Medicine is a masterpiece. It is well-written, and the translation is amazing, which adds to the beauty of this story.

So...

... more>> Translation: 5 stars [it goes beyond understanding what is being said to enjoying how it is being said]

Characters: 5 stars [the characters feel alive, with credible motivations and logical behavior]

Plot: 5 stars [there is a definite goal the protagonist is working towards, so you never feel like things happen just because the author wants them to; also, the protagonist pushes the story forward with the actions he takes, not just reacting to events]

World: 5 stars [it isn't unique, but it is fleshed out as we follow the protagonist]

This story is amazing!!

The relationship and the characters are realistic. I love slow burn. If they fell in love instantly at first sight then it would not coincide with their characters. There personalities and growth development is beautiful. It is one of my favorite novel.

My only gripe with this novel and every other novel is that when it surpass 300 chapters I start to stagnate in my enthusiasm to keep reading. When it surpass 500 chapters, I kind of just putter out and kind of let go. Thankfully this novel... more>> is so good that I continued. <<less

I gave this a 5 stars, but to be honest I think a 4.3 or so would be better. I always love a good wuxia or cultivation BL that gives us more than just the romance. So far, I have to say that the MC and ML doesn't have that much chemistry. However, to be fair there is over 1000 chapters and we are not even 1/10 way through the story. The progress of their strength also seems a little rushed, but there are many levels so that's probably just... more>> to save us the boredom of having to see them get through the lower stages.

I was also a little disappointed with the revenge, I wasn't disappointed with the results but rather with how it was kinda narrated to us in 2 chapters instead of letting us really experience it. Overall, not many complaints from me except for these parts... And maybe that I would have appreciated a little comedy with such a long story. <<less

First of all, I think it's important for people who want to read this story to know that the plot in this story is very slow (this will last at least until the middle of the story).

Although this story has not been fully translated yet, I personally finished reading the whole story already... and I actually have a very high expectations for this story at first.

This is because the storyline at the beginning is explained very completely and without rushing anything, even when entering the middle of the story where... more>> the speed of the storyline starts to accelerate everything is still written very stable.

But one thing that I still don't understand about the author is why when it's near the end, the author just ends everything like that... without any further clarity on some unresolved plots.

This problem is actually always happend with chinese author who wrote more then 1000+ chapter, but this one is a different case.

I mean, didn't the author write very well in the beginning??? wasn't this novel also originally very famous because the author wrote everything patiently and slowly??? then why when it reaches the climax plot the author just suddenly ends up everything without thinking about all the important plots that she/he wrote or explained before??? there wasn't even a bonus chapter at all in the end.

The ending of this story is made like the author will die the next day.

It's understandable if the author wrote the plot of this story in a hurry from the beginning, but the fact that this story is written slowly and very well in the beginning is really contradictory... I can't even understand at all why the author ended things so badly, I mean the plot is so clear that it doesn't even require difficult execution to end things, as long as the author can write a few more explanations clearly then everything will be perfect.

But out of all the options, he actually chose to destroy the 1000 chapters he wrote earlier just for a shitty ending.

This is just really disappointing. <<less

I do like the story. It does not only focus in the romance aspect and the author also does a good job in the world building of the novel. They don't immediately fall in love and they both have mutual respect for each other's accomplishments and contributions.

The only thing I am a little bit put off by is the blind and way over the top worship every character seems to have for the ML. I swear the ML could just breath and everyone would be at awe at how amazing... more>> he is. <<less

Characters are extremely op and extremely cliche that’s all I can say so far. The plot so far is just talking about how strong they both are... both MC and ML are depicted as the strongest beings currently holding many godly secrets that cause them to be so op. But they don’t want to reveal what and how they do it to the world because the entire world is evil and bad and since they are the main characters they are good.

world building is still great though, seen a lot... more>> of places, good interactions with the people. Even though as a transmigrator, the MC doesn’t seem to be very interested in the world other than cultivating his medicine and being a white moonlight to his ML.

might not continue this after all... <<less

The story started out pretty nicely and I was anticipating some more plot development but it fell really flat. I could describe the plot and the characters all in one word — bland. The plot is really monotonous because hardly any major plot point occurs. Every time something does happen, it gets resolved easily and the majority of the rest of the chapters are purely just the ML getting stronger and the MC making stuff for the ML to eat. Taking into account the amount of chapters this novel has,... more>> I was relatively inclined to give it more chances but I find myself constantly dropping this novel because of the MC. The MC really couldn't be any more bland, many would consider him Mary-Sue but his personality is even flatter than that. The reason I gave this novel a rating higher than 1 or 2 stars was because of the exceptional translation. Then again, because I have not completed the novel, I might power through a few hundred more chapters and see if my current review needs a reevaluation. <<less

Hi all,

Just a heads up, I’ve only read this about halfway since it’s a little over 1000 chapters long and I’ve only gotten up through 560 chapters. Soooo, take this review with a grain of salt as my opinion could change later on. However, I wanted to review this novel because I’ve seen a lot of recent poor reviews that in my personal opinion don’t give this novel justice and can cause people who might love it to not even try it.

I personally don’t really read reviews... more>> that are either 1 star or 5 stars because I figure most of them are pretty biased so I’m gonna rate this one a solid 4.5 and leave it at 4 on this website since we can’t do partial stars.

I’ll try to describe a bit but I’m not the best at this. However note it also has my personal opinion, I’m not going for completely unbiased, but I’ll try to stick to realistic and hit a bit on opposing opinions. I’m also gonna hit some topics other people have commented on (please don’t hate on me for denying other’s opinions!). In fact, to be honest I’m mostly doing this to note down some of my opposing opinions to other reviews.

Let’s start with the good stuff!

  • I’ve read close to 100 cultivation novels BL, BG, Harem, and non-romance and this is one of the top 3 most unique cultivation novels. Now, this isn’t because of HOW quickly the main characters get strong or what the relationship (cultivator-pharmacist/alchemist in other novels) is but from the world settings themselves. The way they cultivate and the quite a bit of the world around them is very different from generic cultivators.
  • The world itself is very complete with fewer plot holes than many other novels. The settings although fantasy, is relatively realistic especially in interpersonal relationships/how people think, although the MC and ML do have quite a bit of luck comparatively, but that’s what we expect since they are the MC and ML
  • The ML actually feels smart, like he actually has both IQ and EQ!! In a lot of novels they actually dumb down other characters to make the MC seem smart but this novel actually feels like the ML has a brain!
  • I Personally love the relationship build-up between MC and ML, don’t get me wrong, I love my instant love and toxic to lovey-dovey relationships, but build-up like this is rare and I just loved it. A lot of other slow burn relationships are hate-to-love or transmigrated-into-xxx-where-I-swear-to-get along with MC/stay away from MC/help get MC and their partner together, etc. Etc., which honestly I get tired of sometimes, but this one is relatively unique where they start as employer-employee to friendship to lovers route, so it’s quite different and refreshing.
  • Character building is great! I also see a lot of people being brought back into the story without it feeling as if the author “just remembered them” like some other novels but that actually made sense without causing the story to fall apart. I also don’t see a lot of “the author forgot” an important person and only saw a couple times where they forgot a few details like a person’s cultivation all of a sudden dropped from the last time they were mentioned
Now onto the stuff that might cause people to shy away from the story

  • It’s slow burn, like extremely slow burn, it’s over 1000 chapters after all, and they’re not short chapters either.
  • The overall relationship between MC and ML was subtle. In fact a lot of things in the novel follow the side of caution and subtlety unlike other novels. There’s not as much thrill as some people would like. The story is slow, has its peaks, but is overall very subtle in everything from relationships to abilities and even their hurdles and antagonists can be along the lines of subtle.
  • A lot of characters get left behind. The MC and ML don’t keep a lot of other characters close to them and it’s mostly seeing them later on at some point or their presence ended at some point. But It’s not like the author said “xxx gained an amazing awesome mysterious treasure and never showed up again”. I think they did a pretty good job of ensuring most characters left in a realistic way (mostly because they couldn’t keep up)
NOW ONTO THE REVIEW OF OTHER REVIEWS!!! (I’m not calling out names because I don’t dare, it because I’m too lazy!)

one review stated that the MC seemed more like a side character and the ML more like the MC

  1. The story is closer to it being 2 MCs than a MC vs ML because it switches perspectives and gives arcs for both of them. Though the title does push towards the MC being the MC I wanna say it’s closer to 2 MCs
  2. The MC is not a side character, they just don’t fight actual battles. They actually stick to their job as a support unlike some who were supposed to a support from the title and summary and somehow became some badass one punch mans (I think this reasoning has a lot to do with what I said earlier, about how everything seems more subtle and less dramatic than what people are used to)
  3. I honestly don’t like how some people can adore characters who hide themselves away and burst with strength later but say MC is a side character just because the ML is more prominent because he fights with his fists instead of by making pills and using vast amounts of alchemical/pharmaceutical knowledge to win
The MC is naive or even s*upid

  1. hate to say it, but he was 15 when he entered the story and is actually acting his age unlike several MCs who are 15 and act like they’re double that age. I also feel that the author makes it very clear the MC is more books smarts than streets smarts.
  2. Unfortunately, I do have to agree that MC doesn’t completely try to understand everything because he allows himself to be dependent on ML. But come on, how many novels don’t end with MC ending up depending on ML, not many from what I’ve read
  3. He’s also not completely s*upid, he just doesn’t have to show how smart he is since ML has a higher IQ and is usually with MC
  4. Finally, I think is decisions in the beginning show he’s actually pretty smart unlike most MCs in other novels
I can’t tell you how ANNOYED I am with the amount of comments comparing this novel to The Legendary Master’s Wife.

  1. people say LMW is sooo much better but I’m not seeing it!!! Yes! I’ve! Read! It! And multiple times at that! I really like the novel too, but it’s not 5 stars, in fact I’d say I rate it lower than this one
  2. I believe the worlds are both unique but the world description is more complete in IHM than LMW
  3. the MC and ML actually need to grow stronger and have tough fights in IHM whereas LMW is pretty much ML defeating everyone immediately and than disdaining others including MC
  4. I think people love the strong contrast from before and after MC and ML got together in LMW and don’t particularly like the subtlety in IHM, I like both, but I do prefer the sweeter couple in IHM whereas LMW is a bit more toxic which I’ve just read too many that I’ve gotten annoyed, the power balance is just too extreme in LMW and I’ve read my fare share of r*pey novels but do those readers who rate LMW as a masterpiece realize a lot of MC punishment is s*xual which can somewhat cross the line from having s*x to r*pe? MC also isn’t able to give his opinion a lot in LMW and has to go along with ML whereas MC in IHM actually chooses to go along with ML and has been given several chances to back out or say no
  5. I do have to say that a lot of the reasons why they are compared is because they’re both long cultivation novels and personally I think the MCs and MLs have similar IQ and EQ
  6. I just personally rate the ML in IHM far above the ML in LMW in consideration of personality! ML in IHM is considerate but draws a line without making others feel uncomfortable whereas ML in LMW always gets what he wants and forces others to go along with him and puts himself above others including MC a lot of times (don’t say I’m wrong, he’s literally said before something along the lines of his needs being more important than MCs)
  7. there is one thing that LMW is definitely better at which is actually having a lot of fights and action, MC also fights too whereas in IHM MC doesn’t really
  8. I also feel MCs tenacity in LMW is definitely better than that of the MC in IHM
  9. I think LMW has a lot of cute moments and is clear that they both do fall in love with each other and when it actually starts showing and how the relationship grows but I still feel it can be somewhat toxic in some ways throughout the story
  10. IHM on the other hand, it’s hard to find when ML starts liking MC as he hides his thoughts a lot and their relationship and relationship growth is not as clear cut but it’s extremely fluffy and definitely completely consensual with no toxic stuff at least from how far I’ve reading
That’s it for my review. It’s pretty vague but I feel that it’s the best it can get without having to do a to of spoilers. Feel free to oppose my opinion but I’m happy with it. At least as far as I’ve read. <<less

I really wanted to like this one cause the translator of another novel I really like recommended it but it just didn't really appeal to me. I read The Legendary Master's Wife and a few others before, so I'm not new to the cultivation/medicine genre, but this one was a hard read for me.

Plot:

The plot itself seemed interesting at the beginning, though it feels both fast and dragging at the same time. Not much happens in the "growth" periods for both MC/ML until they move settings to an event. Otherwise,... more>> it's veeeery slow and difficult to get through because their growth is mostly wordy and told to you through straightforward exposition. I mean, you can only make magical chemistry so interesting before it's just a routine to complete, so I let that slide and continued lol. The background world building is a bit difficult to keep up with cause of all the fantastical terms and names. It's not too bad, but that might put some people off if you're a beginner to cultivation novels. I will say, the fighting/competition part kinda lost me cause I don't like sports.

They don't really run into any major problems and the lack of obstacles gets a bit dull to read about, though I am pretty early on and there is supposedly more conflict later on. I just couldn't get past it though to get to it.

Characters:

I will preface that I don't usually enjoy naive MCs that much. I prefer the capable black cat types that match their ML's energy. I heard that IHM's MC wasn't too naive, but it was hard for me to stomach MC's personality. I was expecting an innocent but not clueless MC like that of Little Mushroom. At first, he seemed to be innocent but with valid skepticism and logic, but once he meets ML he becomes so dependent on him for everything. He praises ML so much and sees himself as lesser too easily that it gets painful to read him put himself down. It feels like he fawns a lot over ML which, yes he's impressive and MC isn't as strong/knowledgeable, but GIRL STAND UP 😭.

ML goes from 0 to 100 so fast when he starts to heal that I don't get any satisfaction when MC makes progress with his healing. I feel like a slow burn like this should have gradually made him improve to really give meaning to MC's skills. I'm only on ch 36 and apparently MC is already healed enough to fix ML's original conflict of a sickly body... The way ML treats MC is so transactional it also has me worried for MC's replacement. The only reason why it's bearable is because the author tells us he's only got the best intentions for MC, but without the exposition, it's hard to trust him. It's very Tell but not enough Show at this point of the story when it comes to ML's intentions and personality. It's hard to understand MC's devotion and trust in him this early in the story especially since he can't read the author's promise that ML is trustworthy.

The other characters in the story... are barely there. I feel like MC/ML barely interact with anyone in the story outside of themselves. It makes the story a bit hard to progress in an interesting way. MC's run ins with his rival/enemy was interesting, but it feels a bit underwhelming that it's mostly wrapped up by ML (even MC kinda mentions it being an unsatisfying revenge lol). It probably picks up more later on in the story.

I'm not sure if I want to continue to be honest... I keep putting this story down too often. I only came back to NU to read reviews to motivate myself to keep reading. Obviously, a lot of people like this novel and I want to like it too someday. This is also a bookmark for myself if I wanna pick it up again lol.

But for now, I think I'll drop. If you are also reading reviews to motivate yourself to keep reading, good luck! I think if you like slow burns and more slice of life type stories, this would be up your ally! Me personally, I don't really like it... 😅

I will say though, the translation is very good! It uses a lot of difficult poetic terms and references I think. Kudos to the translator who has done 500+ chapters already! <<less

never in my life would I think I would rate a bl novel 1 star but this proves me wrong

the MC is just an idiot who's blinded by the ML halo's and lets not even talk about how annoying he is with all the gushing and what not, it's like his brain doesn't work. As much as the author tries to push the narrative that he's some hidden talent with a personality it quickly get's forgotten by the author after like 2 sentences.

let's not even talk about the fact that... more>> there's no way the author could convince me that the ML is in love with the MC, to me he just found a senseless apothecary with a heaven defying system and brainwashed him into being his little lapdog. Other than being manipulative, he was extremely controlling and the whole purpose of MC accepting the system was to go back home right? So all of a sudden the ML came and he just forgot his father.

for everyone that is talking about worldbuilding and deserve a 5 star please go read the legendary master's wife or heaven's official blessing and the difference will be seen <<less

⏰ This is still being updated at Chrysanthemums Garden for those are wondering where the translations are 🙂

Review:

I really wanted to like this novel, it seems like a good read. However, something about the way it's written that it's kinda a dread to read (but maybe that's just me cause I prefer reading lots of dialogues between the characters and here there's more description of what's happened rather than the characters talking with each other)

Plus, I just came from reading Transmigrating Into A Book And Changing Your Life so... more>> I can't help but compare

Anyhoo, not gonna rate this cause I didn't finish <<less

This was so good😭. It's the first novel I had to mtl because I just couldn't wait. I love progress of the plot and it was never tiring even when I could barely understand some terms and especially with all the new characters. I just love the build up towards the end and all the flashbacks broke my heart so bad.

Highly recommended!! I mtl'ed 700+ chapters for this and I still reread it from time to time. You really feel the slow burn in this novel but it doesn't take... more>> away from all the fluff at all and there's hardly any misunderstandings since the characters actually communicate and properly respect each other boundaries even if they have secrets they can't tell each other. The author really shows how the trust between them is built up gradually until they became the most important person to each other. Moreover! The romance doesn't take any of the spotlights from all of their amazing adventures and logic is coherent throughout.

[collapse]

The ML gets enlightened first at around 300+ chapters before that it's all transitioning from acquaintance, business partners, friends, and brothers. I love their relationship so muchh. <<less
