Huh. The story has a good plot. A MC that is obsessed with learning magic.

A simple enough story that could be written very well.

However,

... more>> the execution is where it falls down flat. Where do I even start.

The pacing is just too fast. May be the author really hasn't much to say but yeah, it is just too fast. Years pass in just 8 chapters with nothing to show for. Most characters are particularly useless granted that the author either only mentioned them once or didn't waste more than a few lines on them. Which is fine but then we basically didn't make any connection with them whatsoever. Such a style of writing stories i.e. Breezing past the story in first person, only thrives when the story is also told from the perspective of other characters like Eminence in shadow.

Spoiler

For instance, the only other character that we get to know in these chapters is her master which to be fair, we are introduced to but we don't really connect to him very well. The dialogues are filled with sarcasm and banter, which is fine but if you only have that, then there is no substance. Besides, this master hardly helps the MC learn magic.

[collapse]

The second major flaw is the magic system itself. It is too illogical and unsystematic. The MC has the goal of mastering magic but the author describes magic as intuitive i.e. There is no way that MC can actually understand it by sheer effort. No, instead, she can only advance through random epiphanies. Furthermore, MC is depicted as someone who is talentless, so she takes absurd risks to learn and improve her level which doesn't even correspond to an acceptable improve in strength.

See this spoiler to understand what I am talking about.

Spoiler

She learns the second level of magic by literally swallowing a fireball, risking her life only to be able to make the fireball more stable. For third level, she literally burns herself, yes, scarrs her whole body and she can now throw fire across but it comes with an absurd restriction. She can only create fire inside a lantern that she carries with herself and then shoot it out.

[collapse]

Frankly, this is like Eminence in shadow but only the worst parts magnified.
    • The MC is focused on improving her magic and thus ignores everyone and so does the author. We don't really see the story from their perspective.
    • Even with all the sacrifices she isn't noticeably stronger than her peers.
I am giving it 3 stars mainly because I have only read 8 chapters and thus, would like to give benefit of the doubt to the novel. It may become better later on but right now, I am just unable to continue. <<less

Can confirm the title is accurate, Ruina likes magic.

And the power/magic system is interesting, and the character dynamics aren’t bad, and the world is fairly developed, and the protagonist is an utter lunatic (in a good way), and the side characters are pretty not onenote for a TS isekai novel. And a bunch of other things I could say.

But all that really matters is that you aren’t being scammed, because Ruina definitely likes magic.

Ruina loves magic. Reborn in another world, Ruina will do whatever it takes to learn magic. She also wants to grow to become a 3 meter tall tank mage. I can't wait until she can cast fist.

I Like Magic I Like It I Like It is a story I can recommend for people who like characters studying magic.
