I don't know why people are giving this such a low review, the people here lack an understanding of the character Wich is the MC. He is a man that is struggling to live a life with a mom that has been hospitalized and struggling with bills. He wakes up as a man who is scum, and has to marry an 'ugly' ger who has picked up an abandoned baby with different colored eyes. Both gers are seen as burdens in general by society. The MC decides to take both... more>> of them in.

Spoiler

At first he decides to take them in but he does not know anything of gers and that they can get pregnant. Man, was he surprised when he found out about mpreg

[collapse]

People are giving the MC, sh*t since he litterly tried to
Spoiler

give the ML (ger) persuade him to remarry, but you need to see it from his perspective, the man will be leaving ancient times after 10 years. He did not want to get attached and leave behind a family, with possible children. He loves his adopted child, the only reason why he was so preoccupied to make money was for a means for his family. To make sure that when he leaves they will be well off.

[collapse]

Spoiler

He even encouraged the ML to get remarried for this reason. Even explaining the situation to the ML later on. They do live well off, and are happy for those 10 years. The reader needs to know that this story has a little more realistic attitude about a person crossing over and living in ancient times; thus this is why the MC acts the way he does about the ML at first.

[collapse]

The story is actually very interesting. I would recommend it, there is a happy ending for the MC and ML. The adopted child of them is also insinuated to have a happy life as well. I recommend this story for those, please take into consideration the comments above, but also know that the MC knew he would one day leave his new family behind and this is why he acted at one point the way he did.

My thanks to the author who wrote this amazing story, and to the translator who made it possible for me to find it in novel updated. Thank you for all the hard work they put into it for the pleasure of us, the readers. <<less

It's an interesting take on the usual transmigrate to ancient times and get a husband trope. A struggling, riddled in debt MC meets a mysterious man who offers millions of RMB in exchange for living in ancient times for 10 years. No system, no golden fingers and a pair of unwanted gers; that's how it be for MC. The one main perk MC has is that after returning, all of the money earned in the ancient times will be converted into modern day RMB!

The story flowed pretty smoothly and without... more>> much conflict. It's an easy read! Though from the reviews, some might find MC unlikable and dislike the quick development of positive feelings from the ML and adopted child towards MC.
Spoiler

MC likes but rejects ML for most of their early interactions like a domineering tsundere CEO lol

MC: "Promise me that you won't like me"

also MC when ML is sulking and mentions leaving him: *hand grab* "Take one more step and I will really break up with you!"

sigh

He has one (unnecessary imo) scene where he's one toe into yandere when he realises his feelings for ML. MC even tries to match ML up with other men which of course upsets ML. However, MC does this because he knows he has a 10-year countdown and does not want any lingering attachments or regrets. Annoying but maybe understandable... but still annoying xD

[collapse]

Spoiler

As for ML and the kid, their feelings are definitely abrupt but I'm not too surprised at how fast their feelings changed. Besides the writer being very very light on details, ML and the kid mostly get the cold treatment at home. Unlike other ger novels where the ger is exploited as their working cow, ML's treatment is mostly cold and some wariness because of the kid. ML's family still loves ML but refuses to take care of the ominous heterochromic wild child that ML picked up years ago so they're cold towards the duo and their relationship has deteriorated. ML gets to talk with his mom later on and they're more or less okay with each other again. There is a mentioned (infuriating) instance where ML's family "lost" the kid during the early days of ML taking him home though ugh

The villagers outside are the cruel ones though. To summarise, the typical name calling and rumor spreading about ML about his acne covered face and the "origin" of the kid (ML's illegitimate child) ; taunting, isolating and beating up (?) the kid because of his different coloured eyes.

MC is a ray of sunshine and hope for them. The surprising part about ML and the kid's emotional change is that ogMC actually kicked them down just that morning before MC entered lol I definitely would not be feeling good about this man for a long while

They're initially wary of him and hide secrets which they think will cause MC to kick them out which upsets MC because they don't trust him enough (duh, it's been 2 days at most lol) which causes them to panic and become more determined to hide the secret. Yep. Fortunately, the secrets (the kid's different coloured eyes) get revealed and accepted (very monotonously) by MC

[collapse]

Now, for those who are into super lengthy + detailed plots and character development, the story plot mentions 10 years but there's a major, MAJOR time skip.
Spoiler

MC finishes up his 5-year village + life improvement plan within his 1st year in the ancient world. I myself like light reads but this seems suspiciously too light xD Most of the novel (until chapter 60 something) takes place within the first 6 months of his first year. Or somewhere around then at least. MC becomes a well-known and beloved teacher (wow, unseen occupation for this trope!). MC opens up a successful printing workshop and paper making mill. In short, MC has a successful life that even surprises the mysterious man. The remaining 9 years are summarised in about 2-3 chapters before MC is tossed back into the original world.

[collapse]

To end off on a good note, this story is a definite HE. Not perfect (for MC) but definitely a happy end.
Spoiler

ML gets transmigrated into MC's world. The kid was offered to come too but he wanted to stay with his crush so he didn't follow.

MC: My cabbage has been snatched by a pig!!!

Another mellow slice of life story. But why the low rating? It's mainly because I found the MC rather unlikable. His character ranged from meh to me wanting to drop kick him so hard he'll transmigrate to another genre. While in the end he did become sweet and loving, this could've been shown right in the beginning without him being such a mean prick to the ML. Like bruh, did you really had to wait for orbiters to surround your already wife at the time to realize you've already developed... more>> feelings? Did you really had to push him away like that? Dude's willing to go to hell and back for you, but you keep flip flopping and sending mixed signals. One moment you treat him well, then the next you tell him openly you're willing to pretty much give him away to marry others, to put it bluntly. But when people really want to marry him, you flip again and be possessive? Like wha?? He should've been more firm of not establishing any other relationship from the get go if he really didn't want to. Or at least, admit to his feelings directly, and not had the ML suffer from anxiety from his flip flopping treatment.

One thing I liked though is him instilling proper values to the people, and also uplifting everyone. Not too much drama, just the typical tr*sh folks, every story has those.

Tl;dr: mellow light story of dude going back to ancient times, from poor to rich, not too many details happened, you don't have to think too much. <<less

While this isn't as great as the other stories in the same genre (ancient times transmigration with farming), I found the MC pretty nice, and explicitly talks about equality between men, women and gers, so is refreshing in that aspect, and sexism from other characters often *actually* get addressed.

In short, this is a very slice-of-life, pretty fluffy, with an MC with modern values, and the kids (adopted, basically) are cute too.

Spoiler

MC is a self righteous bastard that thinks everything he does is for everyone's benefit. He let a ger, Hua Zizhou, and a child in his life while thinking he would leave them one day. He's the kind of toxic boyfriend you shouldn't have around.

ex:

MC pushes Hua Zizhou away or try to match Hua Zizhou to others but when Hua Zizhou does agree to leave he whines wanting Hua Zizhou back

MC makes his friends fall for Hua Zizhou and just thinks everyone is fine because him and Hua Zizhou is fine

MC rejects Hua Zizhou then gets Hua Zizhou hopes up again the next day

MC lets everyone know that there is nothing between him and Hua Zizhou which makes everyone think that Hua Zizhou is a home wrecker

He pushes others away but if a child, 4 yrs old, push him away he throws a huge tantrum.

The way MC ML and ML's adopted son change their characters after being with MC for 2 day is a bit ridiculous.

For example, ML's son has been ab*sed, mocked, etc by their family and villagers, that he develop a tough attitude. He doesnt cry eveen when he falls, and has injuries all over his body. Then, after a day and half meeting a stranger to be his father's husband, and when this stranger doesnt avoid him, then his vigilance, defence mechanism are all gone. *Ifacepalm*

I'm very much annoyed with this... more>> MC attitude. He is a self righteous but actually a hypocrite.

The flow of events in the story is very... mixed. I dont think there's a sense of order for those events, and actually they're not that important for MC ML lives.

There's an explanation for why and how MC got transported, but it's ridiculous, and senseless. And this made the ending unsatisfactory and a bit plain. <<less

If you read this please read fully before listening to any of the negative comments cause I promise when you take everything into account they're making it out to be a lot worse than it is.

So my first time writing a review here but I honestly and truly enjoyed this. I MTL'd it so bear in mind. I found the story to not only be cute but honestly a lot more realistic when it came to how much the MC could actually accomplish when thrown into an ancient world with... more>> no real skills other than his ability to read and write. To be honest most people couldn't adapt modern practices in the ancient world because the technology isn't there but also because the average person doesn't have an in depth knowledge of most modern inventions so the things that the MC accomplished are pretty in line with basic teachings in school especially for an eighteen year old. The MC was not only non-toxic (deffo a little misguided but he was trying his best) and not as annoying as a lot of gongs go when it comes to treatment of the shou and people around them but honestly was kind of cute in a dumb teen trying to be an adult way. They definitely had a clumsy way of dealing with their feelings but its to be expected from teenagers being treated like adults.

Just a reminder tho they are teenagers. Both MC and ML are 17/18 when this story starts so of course they're not going to have their sh*t together. MC is doing his best with his given situation and from what I can tell has no experience from love while also suffering from young person syndrome (I can do anything and it won't kill me because I'm young). He's thinking ten years ahead about whether or not he's gonna be there to support them but also dealing with falling in love for the first time. He's already experienced hopelessness and losing his family so abandoning the people he thought were his 'wife' and 'child' is especially difficult.
Spoiler

As someone who willing answered a shady ad and gave up his future prospects and ten years of his life for his mother he would never be able to look at ML and his son and lol you're on your own.

[collapse]
So anyone saying he's self-righteous for taking them is has absolutely no emotional intelligence. Part of creating a character and writing their story is knowing what they would and wouldn't do based on the attributes assigned to them and the backstory created for them. Based on the mc's past and personality he would 100% take in an abandoned ger and child especially if he thought the original body had a responsibility to them. This can be seen in his way of getting involved in other people's problems throughout the story.

Overall this is a pretty cute transmigration young love story. Deffo should read if you're looking for something short and sweet and light on angst. <<less

I give it 4.7 stars 🌟 It’s a different kind of transmigration because the MC is promised a return in 10 years guaranteed.

I like the MC. He has no cheats. He is trying to make the most of his ten years worth the risk he took. He feels he was able to take care of his mom’s medical fees for ten years and trusted a friend to oversee anything else that may happen while he’s gone. He is a good son.

Spoiler

The original was fated to live rich early in life, face misfortune, live in poverty, be childless for life, lose his spouse, and have an unfilial adopted child. However, his parents bribed an immortal to find a substitute to struggle in his stead for most of it. This is the premise of how the job opportunity was presented to work in ancient times for ten years. The MC is only a young 20 year old school dropout who is taking care of his sick mom. He is desperate and sees this as a possible scam, but he accepts it as he is paid in full upfront, promised social connections, a companion, and will receive additional wealth upon return if he is successful in his endeavors.

[collapse]

I noticed other readers are upset about how he treats his companion but remember, he’s only 20 and wasn’t able to finish school due to working to take care of his mom. He is worried about the repercussions of developing feelings and then having to leave in ten years.

Spoiler

He knows firsthand about the hardship single women faces when abandoned because of what his mother went through. The MC worries it would be a similar situation if he left his ger in ten years.

[collapse]

The time moves quickly and the author tells how the MC has lived through it, made friends, loved his family, built a community, and helped enrich himself and others around him. For me, I am glad the misunderstandings are short and the angst quickly solved. The ending was sweet enough for me.

Spoiler

The fate of the original still happens!

I agree with the above comment (Kaylee) !

If you do not want to use your brain or just don't give a crap, be my guest and read.

The thing I hate about this novel is that I pick this novel because of transmigration and MPREG (especially MPREG!).

... more>> I do not care or give a crap what other things but male pregnancy is life.

Here I was waiting for cute BUNS!!!! But NOOOO all I got was a comment by the author at the end of the novel stating they will have maybe 2 children, and she did not feel like writing about it. SCREW YOU! I pick this because of MPREG.

The shou is an ideal shou but the gong should not deserve this title, dunno I do not think he is gong material (dunno I just do not like this). <<less

2 stars: A pretty standard transmigration into ancient times ger-world farming story, featuring a gong MC who supposedly does not have a golden finger to help him get ahead (though inevitably his modern-world knowledge still gives him multiple legs up) and a ger shou who already has a four-year-old child (he adopted an abandoned baby though so not his biological child) so there's family dynamics and childcare right from the get-go. Originally was feeling this as a decent 3.5 stars until the dynamic, developing characters gradually became generic rather than... more>> continuing to grow, and then the super rushed and somewhat confusing ending that left some very important questions unanswered that was ultimately so unsatisfying I knocked off a full star and a half. At least the translation is decent enough and consistent, even if the story isn't.

I see other reviews also had issues with the rushed ending. If you scroll down to the spoiler section of my review, I go into detail about it, if you want to know how bad it is.

The pacing is fine for the majority of the story, but it winds down very suddenly without warning—the premise is that this modern guy transmigrates to ancient-times-with-gers for 10 years and then will return wealthy, and 95% of the story is him getting through his first year, developing a relationship with his wife, and starting to get established, then suddenly there's a chapter with a boatload of summary and huge time skips, and literally the last several chapters haphazardly deal with the end of everything. So. Uh. Yeah. Kinda reads like the author initially planned to write more but got tired of it or the story got canceled because boy, did it sure get summarized and wrapped up faaaaast when it seemed like it was still setting up the CP's life and MC's business ventures and the whole farming thing (incidentally, despite a beginning emphasis on farming, that gets left by the wayside very quickly as the MC becomes a teacher and his ger-wife becomes a student and the farmland is sort of forgotten and/or vaguely taken care of by other people).

Oh, and don't be deceived by the NU tags or the fact that this is a ger story--there is NO MPREG. Again, feels like the author had bigger ambitions and a longer game plan when they started writing, only to give up and just end the story.

The MC Qu Qing is kind of weird—he's a fairly typical good-guy protagonist trying to figure out where he stands in ancient times and how to survive, and that means farming, so figuring out how to farm. He's courteous to the ger suddenly thrown onto his doorstep as his "wife" and takes in the child too without a second thought, and looks after them readily enough. Most of his thoughts revolve around household basics (cleaning up the dirty house and clothes, calculating how long their foodstores will last, etc.) and farming (he doesn't have a clue how to do it so has to roundabout ask his new wife about the specifics) and money (he doesn't have any and knows it's a priority to make some).

So all in all, pretty normal for this type of novel. But the weird comes in where he'll suddenly act like a complete a**hole for really dumb reasons to the obviously frightened and cringing ger and child who have barely known him for a few days, especially when the MC is aware that his current body's reputation doesn't seem to have been too good in the village. Like literally within the first several chapters he asks what's wrong with the child's eye, why is it always closed, did he hurt it, and the kid doesn't really answer him and looks uncomfortable, and the ger tries to brush it off because he's afraid if the MC knows about the kid's "cursed" eye, he'll throw them both out—and the MC's reaction is to then get angry and act cold toward both of them because he thought they had bonded over the last few days and were a family, but obviously they still don't trust him and are keeping secrets from him!

WTF, mate. Eventually he relents, acknowledging to himself that everyone has their secrets and after all he's keeping it secret that he's a transmigrator, so he resumes acting normal around them, but I was thrown off by how quickly he turned into a jerk. Later on, he similarly suddenly gets pissed at the ger for an innocuous comment the ger makes; the MC suddenly starts railing about how the ger wants to leave, wasn't he good enough for the ger, is the ger not satisfied with this life, and then he coldly storms off. WTF, man. The ger runs after him to apologize and explain and then the MC almost immediately relents again.

This weird sudden jerkface behavior crops up every now and then when he deals with the shou ger, where the story will be sailing along and then out of nowhere the MC will get angry and start yelling at the shou because he thinks the shou is... going to leave him? Didn't trust him? Is possibly hiding something? Being bullied? (Seriously, at one point he overhears people badmouthing the ger to his face, and the MC's reaction is to first defend him and drag him off (good job) and then immediately yell at the ger for being bullied and not mouthing back or standing up for himself (wtf), only to then half-backpedal but also half-act-condescendingly toward him...)

In between all this though, the MC is just a normal average farming protagonist, so it's really jarring. I don't know where all these sudden outbursts over s*upid misunderstandings are coming from. It doesn't seem like he has any kind of history or old relationships that would prompt him to leap to weird conclusions and act like a b*tch toward people who clearly are hesitant to bring certain things up to him, a relative stranger in a position of power and authority over them.

Seriously, the MC Qu Qing comes across as having some kind of legitimate and realistic anger management problem and/or being borderline (non-physically) abusive—his pattern of behavior of being normal/kind, only to suddenly lash out until the shou is cowed, and then be cold to him, and then eventually act normal or even nicer than usual to make up for it seems like the pattern of an emotional ab*ser (and/or manipulator, though in this case it's pretty clear from the story that he's not deliberately manipulating the shou).

Between that and the constantly mixed signals he gives the shou—telling him not to love him, and theirs will only be a marriage in name (the MC knows that he'll transmigrate back in 10 years and doesn't want to form attachments), but then grabbing him close because of dumb reasons and acting jealous or possessive, or doing things that are easily misread as romantic, or outright suddenly kissing him after rebuffing and denying him because oh noes he just can't help himself (WTF) —I ended up disliking the MC.

It's unfortunate because the story frames him as an entirely sympathetic and "normal"/likeable protagonist, but half the time his actions are way outta line and there are no consequences or more than once-in-a-while momentary self-reflection—no indication that he realizes wow, I was a huge d*ck and maybe should apologize.

Eventually his weird extreme outbursts stop happening, but he's always kind of a vaguely smug d*ck to his wife of the type who won't tell him stuff he probably ought to know, talks down to him, and constantly teases him—and while the latter is a staple of many romance novels and gongs, in this case, I found it off-putting because Qu Qing obviously enjoys teasing Hua Zizhou even when Hua Zizhou is obviously genuinely upset or offended about topics that range from frivolous to actually legitimately serious, and Qu Qing's reaction is to continue essentially provoking him before laying off and condescendingly trying to calm him down or legit just straight up laughing off Hua Zizhou's being upset and then ignore him/go to bed/change the subject.

I'd actually rather the story openly frame him as a jerk, because then his behavior would make sense. As it is, the story frames him as a sympathetic averge good guy, which makes his jerk personality, manipulative behavior, and angry outbursts stand out as even weirder.

The ML ger Hua Gou'er/Hua Zizhou is at first the average poverty-stricken, downtrodden and submissive and scorned-because-he's-"ugly" shou with a s*um family. However, he does actually grow and develop as a character with some surprising hidden sides to him, even though he is of course still a ger in a farming novel in love with a transmigrator who doesn't want a relationship (or so he claims) so he still ascribes to those tropes, though not in a bad way. His family situation is also somewhat different than it first appears. Overall, I appreciated that he changed as his relationships changed and helped him grow, and the nuance applied to some of his character as well as his background. That's all pretty unusual in the transmigration farming genre, where characters are typically static and/or one-note, pigeonholed into their archetypes.

For a while the story did start to develop his character in an interesting way, sort like a sheep in wolf's clothing, but then about two-thirds of the way through the story he stopped growing and became a more generic ger/shou-wife. But at least started off different and did develop in a more interesting than typical way.

The child Mao'er/Qu Xin has one normal dark eye and one blue eye and children with differently-colored eyes are reviled as cursed, so he's always been ill-treated in the village by everyone except Gou'er/Hua Zizhou, who adopted him. Thankfully Mao'er (the story is inconsistent for a while about what he's called, before finally giving up and having Qu Qing say calling him Mao'er is fine since he's still a kid and reserving his new name for when he's older) is not one of those perfectly angelic and annoyingly adorably super cutesy-woopsy children that crop up so often in danmei, he is instead a fairly quiet and mature child due to his history of persecution and ab*se—but he also doesn't fall into the trope of "child who is basically a miniature adult" either. He's still ultimately a little kid who needs someone to take him out to the bathroom in the middle of the night, loves candy, will cry if he's upset, etc. His maturity is more along the lines of trying to be useful, not make trouble, and do as much work as he can, which behaviors are products of poverty as well as verbal and physical ab*se from others.

As with Hua Zizhou, he started off well as an interesting and somewhat atypical multi-dimensional child character, but after everything is established, he degrades into merely another generic cute obedient kid. His "cursed" bi-colored eyes stop being an issue or causing him any problems and is never mentioned again even though I thought he'd have to deal with being bullied in school once children from the surrounding villages start attending, but nope.

There are some other side characters who have their own little subplots and all that was decent reading, but again, the story suffers from things starting off promising, developing interestingly for a while, and then gradually flatlining. The worst part (aside from the schizophrenic MC) is the majorly rushed ending, which in part means we never get any followup or epilogue on any of the side characters. Qu Qing's assorted business ventures are things he starts working toward from the very beginning and building up throughout the majority of the story, then at about 5 chapters or so from the end, BAM massive summarizing of how yep he did ALLLLLL the things and yet there are massive dangling plot threads...

Spoiler

Legit the story goes from daily slice of life to an abrupt chapter summarizing how oh yeah he totally made that paper mill and recruited and trained people to run it as well as built a moveable-type book-printing factory staffed by his students and revolutionized the country as well as his village and expanded the school and he and Hua Zizhou began traveling the country for a several years and—

What about his neighbor and major side character Hunter Jiang and the wife he acquired and the drama of her being pregnant with a kid he'd initially claimed he didn't want but later of course wanted and she kept the pregnancy? We don't know what really happened with that. I may be forgetting because it could have been a one-liner, but either we don't know anything about the baby or the baby happened off screen as a token mention, despite Hunger Jiang's son initially being opposed to having a half-sibling because he worried his stepmom would love the baby more and treat him poorly, until finally he grudgingly acquiesced to the baby being born, and drama seeming like it was gonna brew—nope, no followup with that at all. We don't see how he is as a big brother or how their family changes with a new addition. The wife's s*umbag wife-beating ex-husband is also never really mentioned again though apparently he still lives in the same village.

How did Qu Qing transition away from his teaching position to run all these businesses and then start traveling for funsies and maybe business? Who took over his position? There was a plot thread about the arrogant scholar who initially refused to teach at all unless he was paid out the wazoo with silver being happily tricked into teaching literature at the school, and Qu Qing had all these plans to expand the curriculum to cater to his students' interests. But there's nothing that says he took over teaching. The school, as prestigious as it was, is dumped aside by the plot and never actually addressed in a satisfactory manner.

What about his whole "expanding equality for women and gers" thing? Yes, the school welcomes girls and gers equally alongside boys, but somehow despite a couple initial hints about this being looked down upon/women learning things being useless, there's no further followup about how these educated girls and gers are getting along post-schooling or how/why/if attitudes toward them changed at all, except for possibly a token vague line about how yes, totally, equality was slowly progressing for the better without any explanation of how/why.

In the middle of this summary chapter, there's a scene after 5 years have passed of Qu Qing finally confessing to Hua Zizhou that he's a transmigrator from another world who's only gonna be here for 10 years, and him being from another world is where he got all this knowledge he's been spreading, and Hua Zizhou is mindblown but realizes it must be true and now he only has 5 years left with his beloved hubby—

And then the story summarizes even more with more huge time skips, and then their family is eating dinner and BAM Qu Qing without warning transmigrates back to the modern world, with a card containing like millions of dollars equivalent, and 10 years have passed in the modern world.

Then there's a bizarre chapter that reveals that the shady guy who made the deal with Qu Qing in the first place to transmigrate him is in fact an immortal, and... okay, look, I didn't fully understand what was going on and I'm not sure if it's a translation issue, a story issue, or me being too WTF, but I guess the immortal has a second-generation-immortal son, and second-generation immortals are supposed to live as mortals for a while and endure hardship? Or possibly his son (?) was going to endure hardship as a mortal (be poverty-stricken, have a wife who died young, a kid who's a problem, etc.), so instead he found a poor modern guy to take his place and endure the hardship for him?? Or something???

Only unexpectedly and much to his shock, when he checks in on Qu Qing at the 10-year mark, he finds he's been super prosperous and has a loving wife and kid and changed the world, and he panics because that's not supposed to happen and apparently swaps Qu Qing and his immortal son back immediately.

In the modern world, Qu Qing instantly readapts to living a normal life, his mom-in-a-coma-in-the-hospital miraculously wakes up, and he reconnects with his friend with whom he had arranged to take care of his mom and finances while he was transmigrated. He's a rich-a** mofo now so he can casually buy a fully-furnished two-bedroom apartment just for now because it's convenient to move into with his still-recovering mom, and can financially back his friend's business ventures. The story sure makes it seem like he's living a pretty good life, as it only briefly touches upon the life and people he left behind—sure he wonders what happened to them, but he knows he can never see them again and so it sure seems like he's just a bit melancholy rather than, you know, devastated that he left his beloved wife and cherished son behind forever to unknown fates. (He does reassure himself that even though he technically took ALL HIS FRIGGIN' MONEY with him from the past into the present, the businesses he left behind are still intact, so his family should be okay! Sure, dude. Sure.)

Meanwhile back in the past, Qu Qing undergoes a radical personality change overnight, and also btw his name is Shen Xu now and nobody remembers Qu Qing—this is not immediately clear, but the immortal apparently wiped/tampered with everyone's memories, although it's unclear exactly what this means since everyone is like WTF that he changed so drastically. I guess maybe he just did a ctrl+F to replace Qu Qing's name with Shen Xu's? And also erased some of the more specific memories people had with him, as Hua Zizhou struggles and often fails to remember certain things?

Anyway, he's returned to acting like what the original body acted like, so he's a scoundrel and an a**hole who spends money like it's water (... even though Qu Qing supposedly took all the money with him??) and treats everyone like sh*t. This goes on for a brief but indeterminate amount of time before Hua Zizhou has a glimmer of memory of the old Qu Qing after Shen Xu shoves him to the ground, where he remembers vaguely Qu Qing telling him that he would never ever raise a hand to him and if one day he does, make sure to treat him like a different person because he won't be Qu Qing anymore.

So Hua Zizhou ties Shen Xu up and publicly announces that his husband has been possessed by a demon, and convinces the rest of the village easily enough—his husband went from being an outstanding citizen idolized by all to a s*umbag overnight, after all. So they arrange for (I'll use western terms here to convey the gist) an exorcist to come and either exorcise the demon and/or summon a celestial being to explain WTF is going on.

The immortal up in heaven sees this and immediately freezes time for everyone but Hua Zizhou and descends, because if the other immortals find out what's going on he'll be in big trouble. He restores Hua Zizhou's memories and tells him he can be sent to where his original husband is (and never return to this world), or else he just has to sit tight and accept that this is the way things are now, but he has to decide right now.

Hua Zizhou asks if their son Mao'er can come with them, and the immortal is like omfg FINE and restores Mao'er's memories too, but teenage Mao'er hesitates because he and Hunter Jiang's kid have a thing for each other, so agonizingly he decides to stay behind. So the immortal sends Hua Zizhou away, while Mao'er falls to the ground sobbing in despair that both his parents are gone forever, in the time-restored past.

And that's it for the past! We never find out what happened with Shen Xu now being a pile of garbage who is technically the head of the family and owner of all the assorted business and enterprises Qu Qing set up, or how he handles all that, or what happens to Mao'er, or how Hua Zizhou's transmigration is treated. Has he disappeared entirely? Did the immortal tamper with everyone's memories again to erase Hua Zizhou? Did some other soul come to take over his body? Who knows!

Back in the future, Qu Qing's now-healthy mom has been nagging him to get married so Qu Qing finally confesses he's gay and had a beloved during his 10 years working abroad (as he's told people that's what he was doing) and can never be reunited with him. His mom has difficulty accepting this but to her credit eventually accepts and even asks Qu Qing questions about his beloved and stops trying to set him up on blind dates—

—until she arranges for him to the meet the son of a friend who she thinks is really nice and a good kid and a good fit for him and he'll like him, and also this boy is totally cool with just being friends, c'mon just meet him. So Qu Qing reluctantly goes to meet him and BAM it's Hua Zizhou! Or is it? Because he says his name is Lin Zhou and he acts like a totally modern youth, using slang and talking about normal modern stuff, but he looks and acts totally like Hua Zizhou, and Qu Qing eventually realizes it really is Hua Zizhou, and they're reunited at last! With the explanation that Hua Zizhou was sent to the modern world and the immortal arranged for him to become the adopted son of a couple, and in literally just "a few months" he was able to study hard to learn and perfectly adapt to modern life, all while concealing his ger nature as per the immortal's instructions because if anyone found out, they'd treat him as a monster since gers don't exist here.

So they can live happily ever after now!

THE END.

[collapse]

Yeah, the story fell apart there in the end. It was a decent-to-mid-upper-tier farming-transmigration story until the end, despite the MC's weird anger management issues and I would have recommended it to scratch that farming-transmigration itch if not for the rushed total mess of an ending that left so many unresolved plot points and unanswered questions, and just hand-waved a ton of stuff in order to wrap up with a superficial happy ending.

In a way, I kind of feel like I wasted my time reading this. On the one hand, I did relatively enjoy it—until the end. On the other hand, the ending s**ked. It's like watching a show that starts off pretty good and starts to build up toward something even better, then kinda goes into a lull where you hope it'll pick back up, but ends with a rushed, crappy series finale because it got canceled. It's too bad, because the ending could have been rushed all the same but also, you know, wrapped up with side characters and fixed the ending to be more believable rather than less—and done so with very little effort.

The fact that there are no extras seems to hint that the author just didn't care anymore and wanted to be done with the novel. Oh well. There are better things out there to read—I'd say skip this one or go into it knowing about the lame ending. <<less

3.7 indeed is a rates result from strict judgment for this story but if u having no problem with rush pacing in the end, absurd sense of time inside the story, idealism and righteousness MC play it may rate as 3.9 funniest things is bcs it also short.. If it longer idk what I gonna do, author make it misunderstanding play but resolve with and comedic and absurd way ... more>>

Overall the story is satisfying to read. Eventhough I'm a little dissapointed with the ending.

Spoiler

The reason why MC transmigrated is bcs the old immortal need someone to subtitute to second generation immortal for his punishment living in ancient world. Bcs the parent of this second generation immortal gives bribery to old immortal, MC is chosen. What he don't expect is MC become a successful person in ancient world.

Well I think this is unfair to see how easy this immortal to break the law of heaven. Too bad this kind of shady things didn't get punishment from heaven. I know this isn't the focus of the story. But it makes my satisfaction lost and the ending just gives me "That's it?" vibe.

I understand why some of the reviewer, rate this low, and even dislike the story.

the MC was too rational, specially when he ask ML to remarry, and he cant explain why, its soo hurtful. Too cruel, but he has a point, it is true. And truth hurts all in all, this is a good storyyy

Many are mad at MC for wanting to get ML remarried, of course it was quite annoying since its quite obvious he liked him, but I do understand his perspective. He knew he would leave so getting attached to someone in another world will cause issues since ya know you could get attached.

Otherwise, loved this, especially the little romantic bits, I couldnt help but blush 😭, like Zizhou just telling MC-, forget it it sounds cringe when I say it, jsut read the book and you’ll understand. Oh btw the... more>> Chinese translated into English ain’t bad.

Basically search the Chinese name of this novel, so like, and tap the one that say m. Shubaow, and get google to translate it for you and bammmm, better to understand than MTL. Btw Brother mean ger basically. Anyway yeh pretty good! Miao’er was cute too, such a cutie tumbling and tripping all over the place with his tiny legs. <<less

To be honest I hated the MC for quite some chapters but I ended loving him after all.

Loved ML, such a cutie.

Spoiler

the only thing that got me angry was such a "rushed" ending, even that the son choose to stay in the ancient times for love (understandable, but still), that we didn't have any extras about anything even if we had many options for them

[collapse]

But overall, a good novel.

Recommended after something angsty/sad/hurt, you know. Might not reread.

This was a quick read at only 73 chapters. A lot of things don't make sense and are never really explained and the timeline is quite rushed. From chapter 65 onwards, it's just the author summarizing what happened instead of writing out an actual storyline. It literally reads like someone who's in a hurry to finish up the novel and is offering a quick notes version of it.

First off, the historical stuff does not make much sense if you take it literally because it makes farming sound way too easy.... more>> MC is transmigrated and he's poor without a single penny yet he has plenty of oil and salt. Oil and salt back in ancient times is worth more than money with how expensive it is.

Also, time does not make sense.

Spoiler

Within the first couple of months, a whole school building is built and stocked for MC to teach in and then less than 6 months later, MC is able to somehow build and open a paper mill factory? I mean, hello. It takes time to cut down wood, source supplies and equipment. You can't even build a factory in today's world that fast and get it running smoothly in just mere months. It just breaks the immersion.

[collapse]

ML is a ge'er and so is MC's adopted son.

Spoiler

The novel does not really explain how ge'ers are different from men or how they are so easily distinguished right at first glance. MC thought they were men and didn't mention anything odd about their appearances so I'm kind of confused how random shopkeepers, etc can tell that ML was a ge'er from just a glance. It was mentioned at the end that ML transmigrated to the modern world but kept his ge'er body but it has to be kept a secret so he doesn't become a science experiment so... is there a physical difference? Other novels have a red mole on the forehead, they don't seem to have that here.

[collapse]

Overall, the last 7 chapters of the novel just left me frustrated and annoyed with the rushed ending. <<less

I'm honestly a little disappointed with the plot. The translation itself was great, the book was somewhat the issue, too many unexplained points and occurrences that I felt wasted after finishing it. This might be the first time I genuinely don't recommend a book.

First, what exactly was the deal with the immortal ?
Spoiler

It's not explained at all, the author just says the immortal accepted a bribe and that topic ends there.

Second, why give the MC a husband and family if he's just going to leave them in that ancient world? It makes no sense.

Lastly, the ending is way too rushed and leaves you feeling a little disoriented and robbed.

For the first time, I genuinely don't recommend reading this.

I love the story and how it was written. The conflict of the MC deciding if he should have a relationship with the ML or not was written well. I love how he knew that he couldn't say forever with his family so he tried to leave something for them behind. And I was satisfied with the ending and how they ended up together.

The story had a ton of potential, but it just fell short in a wide variety of ways:

The pacing was super off. The author will write ridiculous things to indicate time skip like "time passed by like this very quickly" but it would only be 2 days later. And then once you think the MC has been in the world for several months or several years, it turned out only one month had passed?

Spoiler

The author has the MC starting a school, inventing moveable type, papermaking mill, "graduating" his school's students to work at the moveable type workshop, rebuilding his whole house, built a fully glass greenhouse and research facility.... all in 1 year. Like what??? Dude went from 0 money to billionnaire in literally 1 year. His reputation also went from "bottom of the barrel / thug in the village" and his finances from "not being able to feed himself after the next 5 days" to "most admired and wealthiest landowner with two-story mansion" in 1 freaking year. Ridiculous!!!

[collapse]

Second, the story started out really well and it seemed to be taking a different route with the MC struggling with his deadline and becoming a teacher, but instead it just became 1/3 of a fully fleshed story and the author got impatient or didn't want to write anymore, and just fast-forwarded the rest of the chapters.

Spoiler

It took almost 70 chapters to get through 1 year of the novel, and just 3 chapters to get through the rest of the 10 years. lol?

[collapse]

Also the amount of drama in that village was actually quite ridiculous... according to the author, petty thievery was rampant in the village. People would legit do shitty things and be shocked when they got their retribution.

Essentially, it felt that the author would write everything by the seat of their pants. If they needed annoying villager thieves, suddenly half the village would collude to steal or trick. If they needed the village to be good poeple and supportive, suddenly the village was that. If a character previously was written as isolated and hated by all in the village, if the author needed him to "have friends" that past setting is instantly wiped away and the character can suddenly invite 3 friends to go drinking with him.

Meh.

There are other dissonances that I don't really want to talk about.

Translation was fine, flowed well, but a few weird parts. <<less
