“…Here we go again.”

I found myself reincarnated as William Decker, the third son of a count’s family, labeled as a good-for-nothing.

No matter what I do, I meet my death three years later.

And every time, I wake up to the sound of a slap, back to the moment when my engagement is annulled.

All I desire is a complete and final death.

But then, she appeared before me—

Evangeline Meyer, the eldest daughter of the Northern Grand Duke.

“You’ll have to get engaged to me.”

A marriage proposal from the worst noblewoman in history, who will one day bring the Empire to ruin.

…Well, I suppose I’ll just have to give it my all.

The storyline is good but there's a bunch of tired tropes that have to minus 1 star for me. Maybe 2 stars but I'll be generous.

The "woman beat up man funny haha" trope. His fiancé is violent toward him and he just takes it. It gets better later after they get married but it just sucks.

Everyone higher ranked is constantly threatening the MC. I get that his proposals carry risk but it's tiring that any time he wants to do something the higher ranked noble or whatever always goes "if... more>> you're wrong about this I'll kill you". Ugh.

The "it turns out nobody is evil" trope, where it establishes a character as being an a**hole but then later, akshually they always had good intentions the whole time". His family mistreated him but wait actually one brother was nice to him and the other is just too stoic. The father will probably be redeemed later as well, but I haven't gotten that far. It's also established that the empire is at odds with the north, but now akshually the emperor is a puppet but akshually he's still very respected in the north but akshually he's strong enough to openly threaten the MC and deal with corrupt nobles. It's so damn inconsistent. <<less

The story itself if fine enough. It's very standard but pretty well executed, with one exception. That being the Romance.

Now, I will say something different from what you often hear, I wish this was a harem story.

Hear me out here.

... more>> Yes, fake Harem romantic slice of life comedies are the worst. They have a proper love interest but suddenly halt everything to add another one that will just end up unhappy anyway, I totally agree with the condemnation of those.

But in Korean Fantasy/reincarnation novels I honestly prefer the harem. First of it's usually actually true harem so the problem that a heroine will end up unhappy goes away.

But I am aware that most peoples problem is not a moral issue (though if you have a moral issue with a harem story that would be completely valid) but the idea that it means quantity over quality.

Let's be real though, it's not. If you take away the quantity the quality usually does not increase with these novels. As can be seen in this novel. The Love interest is by far the weakest point and feels like she is supposed to be two different characters she randomly switches between. R0mance is simply a weak point of most of such novels. A harem is an easy way to hide such issues by not focusing too much on one love interest. It also gives the opportunity to have the love interests intertact with each other giving both them and the MC a feeling of having more depth. Without a harem you end up with a story like this, where the romance part is woefully lacking because there is only one love interest and she is a very weak and confused character. (as in, her writing is, she is very strong in universe... very confused as well though and not in a way that makes sense). <<less

If you actually read the novel and just very slightly look past the surface level 'this is cute' or 'oh the novel is aware of game tropes', you will find a novel that is severely lacking in too many ways.

The MC does not act in a way that reflects his setting. The novel does not reveal exactly how many regressions the MC has gone through. The author himself constantly shifts the number up and down based on whatever is more convenient for some plot point or comment from the MC.... more>> We have no idea how familiar the MC is with the game. The way he acts sure seems that he only refers to it being a game when it’s convenient.

The girl is never justified as a villain either, you are just supposed to take the MC's word for it despite the MC knowing basically nothing about her, so that the rest of the novel can be about proving how she's just this 'normal girl'.

In one scene the MC goads her into slashing him because he knows that it’s physically impossible for him to die before his ‘destiny’ 3 years later. In another scene the MC is sweating and shivering and barely able to keep standing because he’s so overwhelmed by the ‘pressure’ from the ‘transcendents’ like the Northern Duke.

This inconsistency just ruins any fun there is about this novel. The author turns the MC into a joke for the most lame of practical gags. The MC is some paper gangster with the only interesting thing about him being the setting. The fights are alright but the core issue of “this is a game world” and “game events still happen here” leaves you with a bad taste in the mouth. <<less

I've typed out 2 reviews and accidentally lost them when my phone refreshed so TLDR:

  • William is very charming and I'm rly curious about his previous lives and deaths, and also I hope I see more spirits because they're so cute and so cool
  • Evangeline is cute...! Love the gap!! She's so handsome too!!! Hope they kiss kiss fall in love soon!!
  • Liking the side characters so far, Marie is very likeable imo and so are Daryl and Chris, looking forward to seeing more of them
  • I like when stories are self aware of the weird settings it's silly
  • Very happy with the durian appreciation in c12.1, instant 5 stars and it made me crave durian real bad, too sad it's not in season rn so I can't exactly go out and buy a good one grrrrr

First of all for someone lived so many lives and died too many times how can he be like pathetic loser?he should be calm and collected and state of mind should be high but he is only thinking about dying. And by living countless 3 years life he should proficient in all aspects and don't give me a excuse as physical strength can't reset please! He must have somehow found a way to overcome this via shortcut given this world of magic. And that elixir just shorten time instead of... more>> fully increasing his strength and he should have acculmated strength beyond transcend being but he is getting flustered easily when facing FL and he acts too inconspicuous and literally saying I am different when he could have avoided scenario where he has to hook with FL by force man! Can't you just refuse her? There is no need to marry her if you just want to go north

  • He says he felt weak in front of Duke in later chapters and strongest among all the transcend beings and he feels like he must worship him man come on!! He is having cheat like infinite loop and he should be beyond him by now yet he is saying things like that and he should be practically invincible give the cheat and preknowledge and he keeps saying Evangeline teacher see right through him when he should lived longer than all the people in the world that's it I won't read anymore it has good premise but MC was made to look pathetic

It's pretty good for someone new to Korean novels or noble stories. For anyone who has read good examples of those genres, however, it's pretty bland. It's checking all the boxes of a good korean novel, but it's bland in its execution.

Or rather, it's a good story with amateurish mistakes. For example, William is absurdly competent and old (in actual age, he's over 50) but he thinks and acts like a smart teenager. He plays the role of a smart kid, instead of that of a wise regressor with life... more>> experience under his belt. The story starts with him thinking and acting to throw over the metaphorical table, but it doesn't feel that way afterward. He puts up token fights (he didn't want to get engaged with the heroine, but he accepts his loss pretty quickly, even though he knew enough to stop it) and therefore it feels like a generic novel where the MC is just there for the ride, instead of being someone who acts and change the world around him. <<less

A fun and somewhat twisty romp. It has in depth fluff, deals with PTSD, tries to accurately reflect what losing yourself to time loops would be like, and has a slow, sweet romance that felt real.

The romance started in awkward fits and bursts, as love often does, then slowly smoothed out through shared topics, shared skills, and shared trust. The two main characters earned each other fairly.

The plot itself is quite good, having a rather satisfying take on "isekai man modernizes Ye Olde Earthe." Instead of slamming out inventions without... more>> pause, he has to take the time to build his empire. From finding and recruiting Spiritists, ending the feuds between various noble factions, solving the crisis of the dwarves and elves, and actually having to plan and build a city?

He actually has to work. And his inventions are rolled out slow enough for people to adapt, starting from making luxury soaps, because soap already existed, and luxury lotions, he builds up his empire, culminating in the world changing steam train and wood pulp paper.

It was satisfying and lovely and it makes a lot of other technology spamming transmigrators look worse. <<less

This web novel starts off with a familiar setup — a reincarnated MC (we don't even know how many times), in a cliché medieval fantasy world. He uses knowledge from the modern world to invent all sorts of things with magic and tech, which is fun at first.

The early chapters are pretty enjoyable and easy to get into. But as the story goes on, it loses steam. The MC is super overpowered, but there's no explanation of his skills — we just know he's strong as a swordsman and spirit... more>> mage without seeing how or why. Also, despite the title, the female lead isn't really portrayed as a villain at all.

The biggest issue is the rushed ending. It wraps up too quickly, with no real conflict or satisfying payoff. But it's understandable — the author shared at the end that both his parents were suddenly diagnosed with terminal illness, which affected the writing.

Overall, it's a light and easy read that starts okay but falls off toward the end. <<less

The story is about a man from Korea transmigrated to video game as an extra named William.

After transmigration, William found out that he's in three years time loop that he can't escape.

The unique thing about William is that despite him regression hundreds of times, he still very much not worn out by it, doesn't have depression (although he would prefer if he can die already) and treate people as people, not overpowered (although strong), and doesn't know everything about everything (although he is very knowledgeable), and still have hope that... more>> he can break free someday.

Honestly, he feels like a man in his twenties instead of a thousand years old regressor. This can make or break the story for a reader.

The focus of the story seems about William dealing with the politics and affairs of his in law fiefdom and improving it, alongside a sweet--and decently mature--romance between William and Evangeline, the Villaines of the game (their interactions are gold)

There is some action, not much, but there is some. <<less

So far so good.

TL;DR - It's fluffy, but it's not the shallow kind of fluff. Just the plot is a bit inspired, but the execution is interesting and exciting. It's not lacking in depth in my opinion.

This is a slightly biased review. It has all my favourite tropes and my favourite setting (medieval high fantasy).

For some reason, the stories I've been reading recently have all involved the North Europe (or just "The North" as they call it) setting. After a while, it started to grow on me. It's always described... more>> as "rough" and I don't know why I like it so much. Call it a sense of familiarity.

I have a lot more to say, but I'll add the details once I'm finished. <<less

A decent regression story, bland, but not often boring. It has more good parts than bad ones. The characters changes are pretty drastic and topics are brought up shortly before they are needed. Somethings are forgotten about or put aside for longer.

This might be a story that drags out longer then it should but for now it's worth continuing to read.

I had fun reading this. The basic premise is that our hero is stuck in some kind of weird groundhog-day style re-incarnation loop. For unknown reasons, he seems to be repeating the same 3 (or 5?) years of his life. Technically, the author transmigrated into the story - but IMO, it does not play a big role. After repeating his life so many times, he's gained a lot of skills and knowledge. That comes at the cost of his sanity or at least his mental health.

The story begins with our... more>> hero at the start of a loop being falsely accused of infidelity and having his engagement annulled. He's just about cast out from his noble family and was deciding on what to do when our heroine spots him. She is a battle-maniac; i.e. Excels at fighting. Our hero goes out of his way to avoid her in all his loops (due to her being a villainess), that the fact she reaches out, is shocking to him.

He gets so stunned that he decides to go with the flow and agrees to be engaged to her instead.

The rest of the story is how he settles in her part of the world, grows closer to her and helps to develop their territory using modern-day knowledge. Eg: introducing modern accounting practices, paper, railroads, soap.. Etc to the medieval world. What I like about this story is how gradual the introduction of all those pieces of advances are. Granted - this is a fantasy story and some liberties have been taken, but I found the build-up of the relationships and world building fun.

Some readers might come in here for the world building - that's not really my interest, but I will say that I enjoyed what I read. What I found the most fun was watching our hero and heroine grow their relationship. The initial impetus is the heroine (or villainess?) trusting her gut and dragging our hero to the altar. But as they spend time with each other - there is a mutual understanding and attractiveness which grows between the pair.

I found those parts fun and enjoyable. The translator did a good job. Thank you!

This is a cute story and a great work from a new author. Over all it was interesting and the writing was well done. The romance was cute but not overdone in my opinion. The characters had real growth and emotions, even though at time it seemed that their growth was a little rushed, I felt it still made sense. I would recommend for anyone looking for a light hearted read or romance.
