In Ruyi Jiaoqie, the heir to the title, Xie Yunzhi, is known for his bravery and battle prowess. He is a handsome, bold young man who has spent years riding through the battlefield, unstoppable by anyone. Unfortunately, he is merely a supporting character, disappearing on the battlefield from the very beginning of the story, leaving behind three adopted sons.

Xu Qingyi discovers that she has transmigrated into a role as the contrast to the beloved heroine of a typical “pet novel.” On the day of her wedding, she refuses to marry the male protagonist, Xie Huaian, who is known for his pampered concubines and neglect of his wife. Instead, she voluntarily asks to marry Xie Yunzhi, the male protagonist’s older brother, the heir.

What if he’s a “suit-and-tomb” figure (a term for someone who is stuck in a mournful, lifeless situation)? That’s still better than being with a s*umbag! From then on, Xu Qingyi focuses solely on enjoying life—admiring flowers, playing with birds, and raising the children, all while casually watching the drama unfold. She plans to divorce once the heir returns. However, things take an unexpected turn: the three children she is raising grow incredibly close to her, turning into little warm bundles of affection.

With the heir’s return approaching, Xu Qingyi tells the children, “When your father returns, I will ask for a divorce. You know what to do, right?”

The three children nod eagerly: “We’ll grow up well with father’s money, and when we’re older, we’ll work hard to take care of you, Mother!”

Xie Yunzhi, who returns earlier than expected, learns that he has a “housewarming wife” (a wife taken to ward off bad luck), but he doesn’t feel much about it. His parents praise Xu Qingyi for her warmth, gentleness, and dedication to the children. They claim she loves him deeply, and he figures he can put up with it—respect and harmony should come later.

However, when he overhears something at the door the next day, his mood turns darker than when he’s been struck by arrows on the battlefield.

When they officially meet, Xie Yunzhi falls for his wife at first sight. But remembering her earlier words, his expression turns even darker than his battle wounds. Xu Qingyi tries to find a chance to talk to him, but every time she tries, things go awry. Finally, in the midst of one conversation, they somehow end up… well, you can guess.

“Oh no! What happened? The usually quiet and reserved heir can’t possibly have feelings for me, right? No way…!”

Alright, let's talk about this novel.

At first, the premise really caught my attention—unlike the usual transmigration stories where the FL immediately starts face-slapping and gathering a reverse harem, this one takes a different approach. The setup had a lot of potential, especially with the ML being unconscious for the first 100 chapters. You're constantly waiting for him to wake up, expecting some major plot developments...

But once he does?

... more>> It just gets boring.

There's no real conflict, no real villains (or at least, the ones that exist are too s*upid to take seriously), and the story slowly shifts into pure slice-of-life. I don't mind a slower-paced novel, but this one loses all tension after the ML wakes up. It becomes a series of household affairs, mild relationship fluff, and random events that never feel urgent or exciting.

And let's talk about the most annoying part—every single chapter, we have to be reminded of how devastatingly handsome the ML is. Women—maids, noble ladies, random passersby—fall all over themselves the second they lay eyes on him. It's so overdone that it stops being amusing and just feels like lazy writing. We get it, he's pretty—can we please move on?

If you're here for face-slapping, there's barely any. If you're looking for scheming and power struggles, prepare to be disappointed. The author throws in some minor "antagonists, " but they're so dumb that there's no satisfaction in seeing them fail. It's like watching someone trip over their own feet—you don't even feel the need to laugh.

I'm currently at chapter 191, and I'm really struggling to keep going. The lack of twists, the weak conflicts, and the overly mundane day-to-day events just aren't holding my interest anymore.

The only reason I'm bothering to leave a review is because the current 4.3 rating is way too generous. Objectively, this should be a 2/5 at best—the writing itself is decent, but the plot (or lack thereof) is a huge letdown. I'm giving it a 1/5 to balance out the inflated ratings.

Verdict: If you enjoy a very mellow, small-conflict-slice-of-life story, you might like this. But if you want drama, tension, and excitement, this isn't it. I'd say give it a try, but don't expect too much. <<less

it was the best historical novel I've read in a while. It had just the right amount for everything you might wish for not over dramatic, not over childish, not over political, it was just the right amount don't know how to describe it but that; and the cherry on top is that the FL isn't the annoying type.

Hell! It doesn't even have that boring moments that the couple get when they are finally together like most stories always have. Like I don't know how people could give it a... more>> bad score when most historical can't even get me even half of the satisfying feel this story brought me. <<less

So satisfying! Our FL was decisive and adept at turning almost all negative situations into a good one and I liked how she wasn't a soft persimmon. The comatose ML also lived up to my expectations, so, overall, a darn good rebirth/transmigration story.
