Lin Xun accidentally downloads a text-based game called The Book of Salvation.

Leveling up by fighting monsters and exploring adventures was already exciting, but soon he realizes he can bring game items and even characters into the real world.

While other players can only use one character, Lin Xun struggles to pick from entire armies.

While others are stuck with weak human characters, he commands terrifying boss monsters.

And when he summons a grotesque monster boss into reality:

“If I said I’m here to save the world. Would you believe me?”

“???”

“I believe you… my ass!”

I decided to give this one a shot because the premise really stood out to me. Not gonna lie, I didn’t expect it to be nearly as good as it is. Honestly, I’m just glad I was bored enough to check it out, because now I’m fully invested lol.

I’m usually not that into Souls-like games, mostly because I’ve never been good enough to finish one (I’m a noob, and im tired of dying 50 times). But even so, I can definitely appreciate the vibe and atmosphere they go for, and... more>> this novel absolutely nails it. It captures that same eerie, mysterious feeling of slowly uncovering a ruined world piece by piece. You really feel like you’re discovering things right alongside the main character, and that sense of exploration is one of the strongest parts of the story.

As of writing this, there are only 34 chapters out, so I haven’t gotten super deep into it yet. But even with what I’ve read so far, I’m genuinely impressed. The pacing is good, the tension is well-balanced, and the worldbuilding is intriguing. It feels like there’s something much bigger lurking just beneath the surface, and I’m excited to see where it goes.

On the translation side of things, I have no complaints here. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. I’m used to much rougher translations and novels (shoutout to all my fellow fast food readers who know what I mean), so seeing this level of quality gives me hope. It’s clean, readable, and does justice to the tone of the story.

I’ll try to update this review as more chapters come out, but so far? It’s absolutely worth reading. Great premise, solid execution, and a vibe that really hits if you’re into soul-like games. So far, so good. <<less

I'm the translator for I Save the World in a Doomsday Text Game, and I'm leaving this review because someone dropped a 1-star rating on day one, the novel only has 10 chapters out. I have no idea if they are trolling or just prejudiced against these types of novels, but either way, it doesn't reflect the quality of the story, and I want to give people a fair look at what this novel actually offers.

Now onto the actual content: this is a cleverly structured novel that drops the protagonist... more>> into a grim, souls-like apocalypse simulator via a text game. The first two arcs nail the atmosphere: mysterious, oppressive, and dripping with tension. The worldbuilding is easily the strongest part. It's consistent, full of detail, and scratches the exact same itch as games like Dark Souls or Bloodborne, especially in the way the player uncovers bits of lore and the structure behind each apocalypse.

Lin Xun, the main character, is clever, opportunistic, and always pushing forward. He's not invincible, but he uses every tool the game gives him and finds ways to win against impossible odds. His growth feels natural, and the tension stays high.

The real-world content shows up between arcs and mostly feels like filler to me. It's not awful, just less engaging than the main game content. That said, it never drags things down, and I consider it a small tradeoff for how strong the core experience is. If I had one minor criticism, it's that the female characters in those segments feel more like awkward tropes than real people, but luckily that doesn't bleed into the core of the story.

This is easily one of the best text-game novels I've read. It's clever, immersive, and respects the reader's intelligence. Definitely worth a shot if you like exploration and games like dark souls etc. <<less
