I Saved the Disabled Villain by Pretending to be Pitiful

Chi Han stayed up all night reading a melodramatic and heartbreaking story.

In the story, the scummy protagonist separates from Bai Yueguang (ie White Moonlight) due to a misunderstanding, and under intense suffering, undergoes a complete personality transformation, becoming dark and irritable. By a twist of fate, he encounters a supporting male character who bears a striking resemblance to Bai Yueguang, immediately making him his own as a substitute.

Throughout, the cannon fodder supporting character is utterly devoted until Bai Yueguang returns to the country. The scummy protagonist then ruthlessly kicks him aside, making the supporting character finally realize his descent into self-destruction. Eventually, he goes insane, manipulated by Bai Yueguang and the scummy protagonist, and is locked up in a mental hospital until the story’s end.

As for the major antagonist who was manipulated by Bai Yueguang, his ending is equally tragic. After being overthrown by the scummy protagonist, he is left utterly defeated, his assets mortgaged, and not long after, he tragically takes his own life.

Chi Han, upon reaching the end, was so infuriated with the author’s forced attempt to make the scummy protagonist victorious by dumbing down the major antagonist. He abandoned the story on the spot. In the comments section, he left one resounding statement:

“If I were that supporting character, those doggedly scummy guys wouldn’t survive until the end!”

And then, on that very day, he somehow found himself transported into the novel, becoming a cannon fodder supporting character.

Chi Han: “…”

Can I take them back now? Is it still possible to delete those comments?

Regretful Chi Han, unable to change anything, continued to watch as the major antagonist, still underage, sat in a wheelchair, indifferently brushing aside the peaches that had fallen onto his shoulder. With a cold and proud demeanor, he passed by. Suddenly, he felt like maybe… it wasn’t all that bad?

***

In the Rong family’s line of heirs, there are no losers.

Due to his disability, Rong Xu had long been shunned by the family and excluded from their circle of power. He had tasted the ups and downs of human relationships. During countless dark nights, his only companion was the icy wheelchair beneath him.

A hatred akin to a venomous serpent relentlessly gnawed at his heart daily. He was determined that sooner or later, those who had trampled on him would pay the price!

Until one day, a person recklessly threw themselves into his arms. It was then that Rong Xu discovered colors beyond the darkness.

That person was Chi Han.

—I used to believe that this world would only treat me with darkness until that star fell onto my knees. I then realized that even the gods love me.

I went to the raws to see and first thing I have to say which is important to me is that the MLS legs are cured its in the blurb, and I don't like the so called 'curing' of disabled characters as real people with real disabilities will never get these miraculous 'cures' and this is suggesting that they with their bodies as they are are not good enough. I know that this is a common problem in books but I think that the translator should include this point when... more>> translating so that people like me who find it uncomfortable to read can have a warning of whether it's something that they would like to read. <<less

Cute novel, I liked the relationship with MC and ML a lot. The Bai Yueguang (Xu Ting) and Scummy Protagonist (Fang Jingluo) make minimal appearances for the majority of the novel. FJL is more present at the very beginning and they both appear for the ending but most of the novel is focused on MC and ML.

There is a timeskip of about a year while ML goes abroad to try and get surgery to fix his legs. While I did read it via MTL my vague impression was that his... more>> legs were harmed in an unnamed accident and weren’t from a natural disability (I don’t recall them saying specifically what happened but family drama? I could have just completely remembered the wrong novel though). While I agree with the other review that real disability doesn’t get cured (story of my life lmao) this seems to be more of a case of ‘cold president gave up on his legs after injury, mc’s love convinced him to try to fix it’ trope so it doesn’t bother me.

some... plot holes/abandoned story but they don’t bother me

Spoiler

jade carving gets pretty much abandoned, MC even goes to major in medicine/doctor stuff. MC and ML never discuss the misunderstanding involving SY with each other it just seems to get resolved all of a sudden. Mc’s scummy parents are written out of the story with ‘ML secretly handled them so they never approached MC again.’ At the end MC supports ML killing scummy protagonist which seems a little out of character for him but oh well. Above all, MC and ML were classmates with FJL for a period of time but he’s like... never mentioned. Maybe he passes by in the hall once lol, and before that the author wrote him as clamoring to get MC transferred to his class!

[collapse]

I will say!! Trigger warning for one small appearance of animal cruelty involving a main chara.

Spoiler

There is a small small section of animal cruelty where MC is doing an experiment for his major (medicine) and is involved in causing and logging the death of a rabbit. This happens in chapter 87.

[collapse]

Cute novel not too long, not too short. Would read again if in the mood. <<less

Feel good novel

love ML 😍🤩

I don't remember everything but I think ML never used his being disabled to make MC pity him like kidnapping MC's feelings or making him stay etc cliche things.

ML:

Spoiler

wanted to cure his legs cuz he doesn't want MC to take care of him for a lifetime like suffering because of him

Went alone to rehab cuz he doesn't want MC to be sad etc suffer watching him

Able to make MC carefree with no other bad characters disturbing him even though he's gone like omg ML is too good at guarding his treasure unlike other novels I've read when ML is gone.. Du-du-dunnn 😩

[collapse]

And MC... man he really guided ML like I don't think ML ever blackened so there's no agonizing wife chasing or black room ugh long scenes

They're just like a normal couple until the ending part lol like author added it to really end suspense and I love it <<less

Romance between MC and ML is tender and loving. They are each other's priority. No toxicity, just love and caring towards each other. Only couple of misunderstandings throughout the novel that get easily resolved. Face slapping was minimal mainly because these two just focused on keeping each other safe and happy. Would I have preferred stronger and more resourceful villains? Yes, but that would require our boys to suffer more so whatever good riddance.

On MC, ML and romance:

Spoiler

MC is absolutely lovely. He's kind but not a pushover. He's smart but isn't much of a schemer. Often in BL novels there are MCs who choose to grit their teeth and endure unfavorable/unpleasant situation in order to maximize their gains later but here MC just says and does what's on his mind without keeping us readers in suspense. He's refreshingly straightforward without being an a**hole. Also he is singleminded, extremely devoted and understanding toward his lover. There was no gay-crisis when realizing his feelings toward the ML which is a huge plus imo. From the very beginning he was absolutely clear on the fact that he transmigrated into the book world with the sole purpose of preventing the ML's tragic fate. I loved how he knew to prioritize. He's emotionally intelligent but also knows how to be ruthless. In the scene where the old Fang patriarch forced his grandson to kneel in public, instead of gloating at the humiliation of his enemy he sympathized with how ready were these rich families to be cruel to their own flesh and blood. Cut forward to his experiment with lab rabbit and the duality of his character can be witnessed in how decisively cold-blooded he could be if the situation requires it. Not to mention he is most definitely not a damsel in distress. Every time someone tried to mess with him, he came out on top and gave his enemies some good beating.

ML is... I don't really know how to properly define him, I feel calling him a yandere would be too shallow a characterization. He definitely has dark and dangerous impulses, but despite that throughout the novel he never really did anything illegal or immoral. He definitely does not show mercy to his enemies, but they do not deserve it anyway. There was a cannon fodder character who wanted to climb MC when they took a trip to the hot springs and even then his method of getting back at that guy was to report him to the administrarion. Needless to say I found that adorable. He's extremely possessive and very insecure because of his past experiences, but he's conscious of that and does his utmost to rein the negative aspects of these emotions in because in his mind MC only deserves the best and he can't bear for these messy things to be the cause of MC's unhappiness. He's willing to go outside his comfort zone or tolerate things he dislikes for the sake of the MC. One might think this would be a cause for imbalance in their relationship, but not to worry. MC devotes all his sincerity to the ML and does his best to reassure him whenever they stumble upon these insecurities. I think the greatest example would be their half-assed 'little black room' play. He can't even bear to tie up the MC properly, so the soft silk ribbon obviously gets untied after they fool around so the MC had to sneakily tie himself back up after noticing lmao. Classic case of 'completely smitten'. He's endlessly tolerant and thoughtful toward the MC and when MC sees that he is just as thoughtful and tolerant toward him in turn. Like the wish he makes when they visit the temple is enough to make anyone cry.

    • Note on ML: Regarding his 'disability' one reviewer was very displeased with the way how it got 'cured' but imo the problem isn't so dire as they make it out to be. I think it's pertinent to keep in mind that 'disabilities' have different degrees of severity. From the beginning it was stated that the ML's legs still had some sensation in them. ML's problems with his legs were as much psychological as were they physiological. The ML could've begun his treatment and rehabilitation from the onset if it were not for the malice of the Rong family coupled with his despairing outlook. He had practically given up on his recovery until MC broke into his life. Please, don't let that review discourage you from trying this novel out.

The greatest thing I liked about their relationship is how MC was just as attracted to and just as appreciative of the ML as ML was towards him. Often BL MCs act cold and annoyed at their counterparts when they act clingy, possessive or jealous. Or they dismiss, ignore or straightup insult and belittle them all the while finding similar actions and sentiments beneath themselves. I think this creates a heavy imbalance in any such realtionship and isn't very appealing to read about. Like give me some loving partners who equally find each other hot or equally desire intimacy and closeness. Come on, it's f*cking hot when you want the person you love or are proud of having them as your partner and can proudly display your relationship to the world. It's also very f*cking hot when you can empathize with your partner's needs and put yourself in their position in order to facilitate understanding. WHICH exactly MC does and it was just so hgnnnnnn. Like dunno bout yall but I definitely need more of that in my life.

[collapse]

Downsides:

Spoiler

Much of the story was focused on furthering their relationship, which some might consider as dragging on but it was't boring at all. Personally romance was what I wanted and romance was what I got. I am definitely not complaining. However, considering some of the plot devices that author has introduced in the beginning I think the story could've been longer. Like, how the conflict with the villains got resolved only in a few chapters, how there was a hint of conspiracy on how the ML got his legs injured but never got mentioned again, how the theory about

MC's weakened health never found a resolution, or how the carving skills of the MC stopped being relevant after screwing up the protagonist. I think the story would've benefitted more if the author described just a little more ML's maneuvring behind the scenes and the retaliation against Rong and Fang families. Antagonists were neatly cut off and then just kinda faded out of existence, especially the Bai Yueguang's end was SO anticlimactic. All of these combined leave a bit of sense of incompleteness but seeing as I was ALWAYS chokefull of dogfood and NEVER got bored I'll just throw away my integrity as a reader. Can integrity be eaten? Woof.

[collapse]

For the aforementioned reasons I decree that this novel while not excellent does not deserve such a low rating. Giving it a 5-star and my humble recommendation. It is a story worth indulging in. <<less

I haven't found a novel this 'fun' in a long time 🥺🥹

This is truly my most favorite 'sugar' story tiper.

It's similar to some BL transmigration stories I've read, but still this story satisfied me 🥺

... more>> The story is quite 'dense', the plot is 'mature', the conflict is enough, and the romance is excessive 😭😭👌 it's really sweet.

Like one of the comments I read earlier, except for a little conflict in the middle of the story, only a few chapters that made me groan with the little misunderstanding about their feelings, this story was really amazing for me 😭❤️

Really liked this story, very sweet dark type of story 😭❤️

ML is my favorite soft yandere!!! She's pathetic, she's innocent, yet she's crazy in a very sexy way 😭😭❤️

And I love how Chi Han, our MC protects ML in a warm, slightly absurd, yet fun way ❤️❤️

My sugar!!!

I will re-read it, for sure!

Because this story is really too short, I really want more 😭 <<less

The plot is good. My interest in this plot can be described as an inverted bell curve. The beginning is really good, but the middle became quite dragging. Good thing that the last part was wrapped up properly before my patience and interest in the novel wore down.

MC is quite mature.

ML is depressed and seems like he has Intermittent explosive disorder (IED) or sudden anger or extreme behavior outbursts. But when he is with MC, these tendencies are curbed. So all is well.. MC is his medicine.

Antagonists are simply delusional... more>> and psychopaths. This include: the novel protags, protags, MC and ML's families. Don't know how these clans prospered to become rich anyway.. Given these kind of mentalities. 🤷🤷🤷 <<less

Not updated further but people say they read it here and some says they found raws, but anyway good story. MC and ML are both very close currently till chapter 33 when I am reviewing there is a misunderstanding which is not resolved yet I wonder why MC is not thinking about it but they are getting along well

Spoiler

MC have a jade business online I thought it would be better if he continue that but spoilers says he will learn medical stuff probably for ml, MC is strong and bold, I like his personality and ML is a perfect combination of cold and handsome CEO. I am quiet frustrated about the parents of MC, but most of all this is not that noticable when you have COMMUNICATION ISSUE!😮‍💨ML is not telling MC how frustrated he felt when he heard that MC likes that scummy protagonist, he probably still believes it I understand he doesn't speak out his emotions but MC can ask right? MC can ask that what he heard which made him angry and that would resolve the misunderstanding, they might get even closer than before. Well I will say it again I had not completely read the novel so I don't know if it will be resolved in the future, but there is this thing that even after that misunderstanding their relationship is much better than what I expected

[collapse]

Do read this one if you are interested in strong MC and possessive ML or just read it even if you don't, it's good

One last thing that this is not updated for a few months almost like 4 months so I don't know when it will update ahead I should have checked before reading, so if you don't like to hang on cliffhangers so save this one and read when it starts updating so you won't feel sad like me <<less
