Jian Chi is a deep-sea mermaid with a tail as magnificent as flowing water and the sharpest claws. Invincible in the abyss, he transforms his tail into legs and retracts his claws to live among humans as the adopted son of a wealthy family, enjoying a lazy life. Until the holographic card game ‘Slaughter’ emerges… and he becomes a lazy fish in the game.

‘Slaughter’ is a brilliantly designed game, vast in scale, mirroring the abyss Jian Chi once inhabited. Abyssal monsters, humans, ghosts, elves, and beasts form a grand world. In a game where survival depends on combat and slaughter, Jian Chi leisurely sways his tail in a massive artificial ocean. He has money. And money talks.

Majestic palaces rise from the wilderness, and various entertainment projects turn the area into a paradise. From then on, Jian Chi frequently finds abandoned, injured, mutilated, violent, weak, and helpless little ones around. They look at him with flattering yet cautious smiles, asking, ‘You seem powerful, can I stay with you?’

Wen Que emerges from the abyss, his long knife drenched in blood, exuding a menacing aura that no one dares to provoke. Until one day, covered in blood, he is disdainfully kicked by a young man and dragged into a castle.

I mean- so far it's exactly what it says on the tin.

but of course, so far is only 7 chapters.

basically, MC drops 14, 000 USD in a game to make an entire (artificial) ocean in a desert level, and when a battered baby mermaid crawls out of a sand hole calling him papa while he's waiting for his new ocean to complete, he's just like * this seems reasonable* *the wealth gods will smile upon my new son as they do me*.

it's obviously way too early to tell if this... more>> is just ✨happening✨ or if the author has some kind of actual plot planned behind this. The baby mermaid's pretty cute if you're into kind of mid-tier cub rearing as a genre and these 7 chapters have by no means been awful, but if you hunger for any amount of weight to your hurt/comfort or well-rounded child/cub characters you probably won't find it here. <<less

am putting this review of mine that I placed in the forum for it to be picked up. Thanks, tl/s!

This is also my review, as I can't put one in NU because it's not actually translated yet. Do you know my reaction when I found out it didn't have a translation yet? Really, atrocious.

I really like this novel as it's quite healing. The cubs are just cute cubs who will make your heart melt from cuteness. It's gratifying to see how the protagonist, Jian Chi, goes from having one cub... more>> to lots of cubs.

I also like the characters. I love the protagonist and male lead so much. They're a match made in heaven and so cute together! I really love their interaction where it went from acquaintance to lovers. You'll just love them and sincerely bless them.

Their best friend and family is also cute! I love how they supported the two of them. It's just so lovely.

For the plot, there isn't much conflict, as it's a healing novel. Overall, I love it so much and I recommend it to everyone. <<less

Sweet and easy novel that does everything right for what it is.

MC & ML are OP, there are some brainless canon fodders, some "fighting", none of it serious or thrilling, most of the story takes place in the game so nothing is real anyway.

The kids are cute and loveable, I usually come to hate cubs in novels because they are just annoying spoiled brats - these ones aren't.

There really isn't much to say about a cub-raising sweet story; characterisation is decent, world-building okay, romance fine, it's simply a good novel... more>> for its genre.

Writing style isn't innovative or sophisticated, it's simply and crisp, characters are all likeable and the writer did well in trying to set ML apart from others of his type by empathising that he's actually a warm, caring person despite his cold appearance.

One star less because there's an inconsistency that gets repeated every few chapters, it isn't anything major and one could have ignored it, but after the 20th time you just can't anymore.

I guess the writer made the mistake once and kept it up because they didn't know how to handle it and turning it into a recurring thing makes it seem like a running gag or something.

In short: Good read for its niche. Don't search for logic, anything deep, thrill or whatever, it's a sweet text without major plot holes and that's more than most of them offer. <<less

Just a fluffly love story. There are plot lines but they don't really go anywhere because the novel focus on the romance. There's no twist or villian. The cubs aren't that present, just mainly there for fluff.
