I'll be honest, this novel went way beyond what I expected. You know how Oshi no Ko dives into the entertainment industry, showing how actors get caught up in the media spotlight and how they deal with it? Even though I haven't seen much of it, I think that's the general idea. But this novel takes quite a different approach, focusing more on the actor herself. It really digs into how the people around her shape her journey, how she battles through the challenges of acting, and how the entertainment... more>> industry itself plays a role in her growth.

What makes it stand out is how the story doesn't just touch the surface of the industry, but rather takes us deep into the personal struggles and transformations of the protagonist. The cover illustration is a great representation of that – you see her under the ocean, surrounded by the unknown, navigating new experiences, and ultimately evolving as a person. It's like a visual metaphor for how she's diving deep into her craft, learning, and growing through the complexities of acting. (Edit : I know the cover changed, but you get the idea)

This novel does a great job of portraying just how tough acting can be. It's not just about memorizing lines or hitting the right emotional beats, it's about the mental and emotional strain that comes with constantly being in the spotlight and having to adapt to the different personas and roles demanded by the industry. The story also shines in showing how those hardships contribute to the protagonist's growth, not just as an actor, but as a person.

I know this is super subjective, but honestly, this is a masterpiece. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but I'm not gonna lie, this is really good stuff. It hits hard with its exploration of the entertainment world, and it's deeper than I expected.

[Edit Ch. 168

After the first arc, the story shifts its focus more onto the MC's daily life. It turns into a slice-of-life type of story, and it doesn't dive deeper into darker or heavy themes related to the entertainment industry. The MC continues to shine as a genius actor, and while I still think the first arc is the best, the quality remains consistent throughout.

What really stands out is how heartwarming the story becomes as it progresses, though there will still be conflicts here and there. The relationships with other charscters, especially the one with her best friend, get a lot more emphasis, and it's nice to see that dynamic grow. While the high stakes of the first arc might be gone, the emotional depth and character development more than make up for it.]

PS. The Vtuber "plot" is still relevant even after 150+ chapters, and it still continues to influence the FL's decision throughout the story. <<less

It's a nice Novel depicting the MC trying to be a "Vtuber" though it's really different from all other Vtuber novels I read.

The story starts as the MC reincarnate (Not shown how?) as a baby-girl and we follow his, now her life on the journey towards becoming a Vtuber.

It begun with learning and practicing until her parents suggested trying to go to an Acting-Audition, then it spirals out of that.

Honestly, it's nice for a Showbiz Novel. I read a few novels and manga/manhua/manhwa, with this actually one of the better... more>> ones. It honestly reminded me of [Act-Age] (Manga) with how the MCs except that she's not as naive as the MC in Act-Age, and with this there is actually no real big development on her yet as of the time I write this only 10 chapters has been translated. But the premise of being a Genius Actor was conveyed pretty similar and better than quite a lot of other works.

Though I wonder how this will tie into her becoming a Vtuber, I honestly wouldn't mind if it was just a showbiz one.

All in all, it was a decent read that's pretty nice that would keep me wanting for more. 8.8/10 would recommend. <<less

honestly I made an account just to write a review here that this is a masterpiece already.

MC is very likeable clear reasons for her attitude/personality the growth of that attitude and character is also really good and makes it even more fun to read.

story is decent just her becoming an actor. I think the different kind of pov's are done well and makes this even better.

I just started this novel, in my opinion, its quite unique as the novels I generally find involve possesion. However, this novel starts with the MC as a baby which I rather enjoy.

The MCs personality is pretty developed, as she is aware of her own shortcomings.

But, the best part in my opinion is how she utilizes her past life as reference and develops on it.

5/5 Would recommend to showbiz enjoyers.

The only non-5-star review here. TL;DR: It's good but way too repetitive.

Normally I wouldn't rate a series only 50 chapters in, but this one's an exception. Someone compared it to act-age, and while there's some truth to that, it set my expectations way too high - then led to just as much disappointment.

1. Let's start with the MC.

If you're familiar with novelpia TS nomance novels, you already know this kind of MC, just take one of those MCs and that's basically her. That's not a problem by itself since npia... more>> TS MCs are generally good, but it also means she doesn't stand out.

The real issue? She's basically a munchkin Mary Sue with way too many overpowered talents. She has a photographic memory for anything entertainment-related, can recall a kids' ad she saw 20 years ago by chance. She can perfectly mimic any actor's performance after watching for a few minutes, then she understands the character's depth better than the actor who just performed it. She even has ridiculous physical strength, can deadlift four times her BW like wtf?

It feels like the author can't decide if this is supposed to be a semi-realistic self-discovery story or a wish-fulfillment power trip, but they're trying to do both and it doesn't work. She's almost like Kei Yonagi from act-age, who also has that method acting talent, except Kei isn't as OP and doesn't have a decade to learn to control her emotion so her instability made her more interesting. Here, even though our MC does suffer from alexithymia, her overpowered skillset pretty much cancels out any real weaknesses, it limits the character growth after the initial setup.

2. The writing

Then there's the writing which is my main gripe. It's enjoyable in parts, but mostly feels dragged out. The author keeps rehashing stuff that just got explained literally a chapter (or even a few paragraphs) ago. Plus every time she acts, the other characters' reactions to her acting are way overdone. Every. Single. Time. It's just people circlejerking over her talent stretched out over an entire chapter every chapter, if the author didn't keep recycling the same joke it could've actually been pretty good.

Showbiz stories that focus more on acting itself (and less about the behind the scenes like OnK) show how the MC's acting skills can also impact others in meaningful ways while the MC is on stage, like how ActAge did. Here, it's mostly just hype about how amazing she is while she performs, and the few times she does impact others it's outside of acting (*minor spoiler* like getting her best friend to switch agencies or helping a casting rival realize their crush is a womanizer). A good author would work those moments into the *actual* acting scenes, showing how MC's performance pushes others to confront their own insecurities on camera, but that's not happening here.

3. Conclusion

AA is one of my favorite series, and I rated it a 4/5. I Want to Be a VTuber is good, but it doesn't hit that same level many times, so 3 stars it is. <<less

Wow just wow, the conclusion in the first arc (child actor) is amazing it tied all her change and growth with her character in a such beautiful scene. (Tbh I create this account to write this review)

The show is more about the growth of MC as a character. It's not about the cruel world of entertainment but the author sprinkled it a little bit not a significant amount. Definitely the early chapter will felt the same as other genius showbiz story but at 20+ chapter you could said... more>> that it tied so well to MC character development.

Edit :

Finished the second arc so around chapter 100, tbh the second arc while it's not high stake and more SoL it hits me so hard. It relates to me so well that I actually slowly motivate myself to forgave whatever I did in the past and focus to the present / future. It painful for me to read some of this. Currently in the start of third arc and it's bit weaker than the previous arc. My advice don't read it for hoping amazing showbiz and the internal working of producion, etc but for character development and emotional aspects.

And anyone hoping for vtuber stuff sadly is there but felt more for clickbait because gender bender + reincarnation + vtuber in title is hot topic currently <<less

This novel is easily my favorite read of the year. At first, after reading a couple of chapters, I thought it was nothing special. But when I decided to give it another chance, it completely hooked me and wouldn’t let go.

The story follows the main character, who is reincarnated as a girl with dreams of becoming a VTuber. She tries her hand at acting in a commercial and discovers she’s really talented. This leads to being scouted for more acting opportunities, which she sees as a stepping stone toward her... more>> VTuber career.

The novel feels like a classic power fantasy, but instead of focusing on action, it centers around acting. The most compelling parts are when the protagonist learns and grows through her acting experiences, culminating in the finales of each arc where she applies everything she has learnt throughout the arc in a single scene elevated by the author’s outstanding descriptions. <<less

I was trying to be cautious and not go into this with preconceived notions because the reviews are so positive, but after getting to this point, I can only say that they're deserved.

The beginning was good, but I thought that maybe the reviews had exaggerated, however it only keeps getting better. I would give 5.5 stars if I could (there are some minor things that could be improved to the point that I would add a full extra star, but either way this work is decidedly a step above the... more>> rest).

The pacing is great, the characters have depth and development, the dialogues are interesting (albeit occasionally a little short - I'd love to read a bit longer conversations), and the depiction of the works and performances are rich and gripping.

The whole "I only meant to become a VTuber and happened to become an actor" shtick doesn't last particularly long, so in a way it's betraying the title slightly, but on the other hand the transition makes the story flow more naturally instead of being a forced comedy. And while her ambitions as a VTuber take a step back, they nevertheless continue to influence the development of the plot and her past remains highly relevant to her character, decisions, and behaviour.

At this point there are a couple of recurring side characters that seem to be sticking around, and while they've had some development, I hope they'll continue to interact with the protagonist in a meaningful way and form deeper relationships.

There is more that I could say to describe the plot or praise the writing and how it sets itself apart from other novels, but I don't want to detract from the actual reading experience.

As a final note, at the point of writing this review the links are broken, but even the early chapters are definitely still readable on that site. They just changed places and you can navigate to them normally. I only mention this because I almost stopped reading at an early chapter because it wasn't archived in the wayback machine, and with hindsight I would have regretted missing out on this story. <<less

I have read till the newest one from the raw, and it is really good. I have to say it was one of my top list read right now.

Every arc is a journey to learn something new for the MC and everyone around her. The first arc is still my favorit, it is still good after that but didn't reach the first arc standard.

For vtuber thing, even until 300+ chapter still doesn't have something going on, her friends did it first before the MC does. For shoujo ai thing, even... more>> though it is spoiler,
Spoiler

MC and her friends got involved in a yuri movie later in the story but it doesn't really have a great impact in their dynamic or relationships, maybe not the time yet for romance or something? Idk

[collapse]

All in all it is a good read. Recommended <<less

It is good actually, but with this much emphasis to female characters and not much to male ones and no offense but I'm having this feeling of gl you know, and to be honest I'm not a fan of them so I really hope the author adds more actual scene to male characters but overall its great to pass your time on reading novels😀.

I originally read around 80 chapters of this story, and after a long break came back to read over 250 more via MTL. Sigil_ has it right in that the early chapters are somewhat weak despite being entertaining. Yeah, the character has a bunch of additional traits slapped on in the form of her super strength. Yes, it starts off as something of a wish fulfillment story, and you can just tell that this is going to be one of those series where the protagonist wins and keeps winning.

But it... more>> starts off entertaining and gets better.

The MC is not that much of a Mary Sue. Her main advantage stems from her knowledge of the future and her experience with alexithymia which pushes her to the level she needs to be to compete at the top level as the story demands. Though her super strength does play a role in a later arc, initially it's there (like her obsession with vtubers) more as a quirk that adds flavor to the character. Futhermore, this is not a work with a 'Protagonist Strong from the Start' tag but rather a 'Strong to Stronger' tag, as both she and other characters have room to grow and do grow over the course of several arcs. Sigil_ noted that 'and the few times she does impact others it's outside of acting' and while it might be true in the earlier chapters, it's definitely not the case in later arcs.

One thing of note - there's definitely more screentime for female supporting characters than for male characters, though there are some. There's hints at yuri but as the main character seems to be aromantic at this point due to her past alexithymia it's unclear if that will happen.

Anyway, the strong points of this story lie in the growth of the characters, with the quality of the writing standing out despite the MTL. In between these points the slice of life serves as a good contrast - the MC is quirky and airheaded in aspects not directly related to acting, and this allows for a few soft failures to round off those Mary Sue edges. <<less

As a casual reader who also likes vtubers, I thought it was gonna be an easy wholesome read, but no. It hit too close to home.

The author, somehow, knew what alexithymia is and was able to portray the MC experiencing what it is like to not understand her own emotions. And, having the MC become an actor is the opposite of what you'd expect for them to do, as they have to comprehend and act out those emotions.

I most likely have alexithymia too, but I can't get a proper diagnosis... more>> rn. Anyway, it makes the MC very relatable to apathetic readers and it makes me appreciate many things.

Although I must agree with many reviews, why the hell is there a vtuber element here when the MC hasn't even tried to become one in a 100 chapters. At most it's her childhood friend, who she most likely has a crush on. Could be tagged shoujo-ai at this point.

In conclusion, very good. Try it <<less

I wrote a long thing, then it vanished thanks to a pop up. So here is a TLDR.

The MC who aspires to become a vtuber literally forgets everything about it as soon as the occasional reminder of her dreams comes up in a monologue, while her friend becomes a vtuber inspired by a note the mc’s wrote in the past.

the mum is an annoying helicopter ‘dance mum’ (for those who dont know what that means, its a karen on steroids who thinks her daughter is the best thing to exist... more>> and will get into cat fights over it), the MC at 18 still needs her mother to pick her clothes, and the MC has some absolutely insufferable moments, like her inability to ask a single question for over a year (and we are still waiting as of ch.114).

if you want to read something similar to this work, but like far, FAR better, just read Hobbyists Vtuber, it should be on the recommended works listed above. The 2 works start the same, but the other one actually has the MC working to fulfil her dream. <<less
