This is one of those novels that kind of baffles me. Do I like it? Do I dislike it? Literally nothing about this novel stood out to me as unique or impressive, and yet it somehow managed to keep my attention in long enough stretches that I read over 400 chapters in two days. Admittedly that's not THAT uncommon of an occurrence for me, because my reading speed is rather fast and the chapters are rather short, but that's still an accomplishment that some books I would certainly rate higher... more>> have failed to do.

It's a pretty standard SoL op MC fantasy, where the main couple just f*ck around (and maybe f*ck in general) and generally do whatever the hell they want. And since this is a Japanese novels, naturally their primary goal is food. Though at least it's not one of those cooking novels disguised as Isekai, as the food is basically just their excuse to go different places.

The only things that I found remotely special are that it's actually a pure love romance, meaning that there's no "unofficial" harem around the MC. Just his wife, adopted daughter, pet, a professional tsukkomi (male), and a maid who's more attracted to technology than she is people.

The other thing would be his flexible morals and general outlook. While he's a bit too lenient sometimes in my opinion, I think he's a great example of what a "peaceful" MC should look like. Since most JP MCs seem to fall into either the category of "indecisive beta doormat" or "deranged psychotic mu*derhobo, " it's satisfying to read about one who's more reasonable.

In a nutshell, his personal rules are roughly:

    • Don't intentionally kill anyone. (If it happens in the heat of a fight or accidentally, then it can't be helped)
    • As long as they don't cause any actual harm or show the potential to cause harm, it's fine to let them off with a slap on the wrist.
    • If they actually cause any harm, direct or indirect, the kid gloves come off and it's time for a castle or three to be nuked off the face of the planet.
If you're looking for a junk food novel with which to turn your brain off and kill time with, this is pretty great. Apart from the MC not being particularly intelligent and sometimes overcomplicating issues,
Spoiler

like when he was fighting a giant turtle who's shell was almost invulnerable, but didn't counterattack, and for some reason decided that he had to punch through the shell in a single blow instead of using a drill, or isolating it with barriers and suffocating/boiling/poisoning it. While neither of those might have actually worked in the end, he didn't consider ANYTHING other than brute force despite there being many other options to try.

[collapse]
he often makes very reasonable decisions with almost none of the s*upidity or stubborness most JP MCs have that makes you want to bash their head in. <<less

One of the few isekai I've found with a couple from Japan getting transported together (or I suppose it's a class getting transported and protag gets with his classmate and not a native)

I don't think the world building is that boring as the other guy said, and a major pro is the protag isn't a beta bit*h male in general, and can act normal around girls. Also while the author skips over their training for obvious reasons, we at least see them grow and they aren't op af... more>> to start with or even close. And I think the author did a good job flushing out the magic system imo. I like how modern science interacts with it and gives them a advantage, much better thought out then 70% of novel I've seen. The romance is also not cringey imo, 90% of the time they are chillin doing their thing and not blushing over every sentence. There's no misunderstandings either, they can communicate (crazy ik)

Spoiler

ngl both of them completely demolishing a country out of spite is peak

if anyone here has played fire emblem our MCs are literally the definition of growth units lmao <<less

Even though I love the OPness and the growth cheats and skills, the characters are frustratingly unwise and lazy/insincere to boot. They literally attack guards and then allow some hooded person to sneak attack them in line. And even though the MC has a 1000x growth cheat, he can't be bothered to level up his skills. He says something like that sort of grind would be a pain when thinking how he'd like to have a leveled up appraisal skill.

The relationship is fine, but there is no common sense in... more>> the two and they only get by due to being so overpowered.

Too frustrating to keep reading. <<less

It's ok as a story you read when you don't want to think, but even then little bits of fustration will show up.

First thing being like, appropriate force response, your enemy dumped you in a demon forest to die, then sent assassins with poison to finish you off, and when you capture them sneaking into your hotel room at night, your response is to tie them up and leave them in the lobby and go plan on taunting the princess of the country....

Arrogant much? You think you two greenhorns can... more>> match the entirety of the country's military?

That links into my secondary complaint... they don't know the country, the culture, the common sense, you'd think keeping your presence low and biding your time would be a priority, they're going around like a bull stomping around in a mall, attracting all sorts of attention they shouldn't want, basicly braindead. <<less

Doesn't try anything too special, I like that it has normal op male MC. Sure there's tonnes that could be done better but just the fact I was able to read up to ch 129 in one day shows that it's at least okay.

Sucks that chapters are so short though.

I also like how he's constantly developing his skills and not just sitting back and getting distracted all the time.

I also like the freedom.. In my opinion this is what makes the good isekai novels I've really enjoyed the most popular... more>> ones.. I mean the world we live in can be so restrictive and oppressive.. This is why isekai fantasy novels of being op and so free where the world is truly your oyster makes me want to get lost in them.

All that said don't get your hopes up lol this novel is nowhere near the real good stuff yet.. I mean it's only just started up so we'll see how far they can go before probably ruining the story or dropping it and going on hiatus or something <<less
